Food still amazing! Came for lunch during the week and it did not disappoint. Nice lunch specials options. Staff friendly and attentive. Inside is warm and welcoming. I went with the pierogis and they were delicious. Good amount of filling and fried perfectly. Onions were deeply sautéed. I also ordered a side of onion rings which is a good portion for a side. Onions were thick with a yummy crunch. Lastly rounded out my fried food with a side of asparagus. Impressed with how thick and well cooked/seasoned the asparagus was! Solid and reliable place!

It was our first time here and we will be back. The service was friendly and efficient. Our Server was knowledgeable about the food and beer menu. The seating was high and low tops, booths and bar seating. We stayed for trivia which was well done. The answers are on the phone, not paper and pen. We all liked that change and thought it was easy too. Chicken fajita were very good with lots of chicken.

Rae's Old Fashion?????

Good beer selection, the inside of the bar is nice, waitress was friendly, food is ok. The issue is if you name a bar Whiskey Rae's, you have a bourbon / whiskey theme for the bar, you list a lot of bourbons on the menu, and one of your signature drinks is a Rae's Old Fashion, please be sure to make it the correct way. Regular cube ice with bourbon is not correct! This is the second time, different days that I've ordered an old fashion and both were made wrong.

Heard about their Thursdays trivia, so def. wanted to try it out; gotta say it is much harder than any bar trivia I've ever done--like the jeopardy of bar trivia. Ordered the pirogies as an appetizer and was underwhelmed--flavor was bland, and pirogies appear to be deep fried in a fryer vs. in a sauté pan, which resulted in an end product that hardens as it cools. For the price I definitely feel like you should get a couple more. Husband had the chicken fajitas which he really liked. Best thing we ordered was the baked chocolate chip cookie w ice cream. What I'd definitely recommend is the cocktails; the restaurant's name should tell you everything you need to know about what they're known for. Whiskey choices abound; cocktails were strong and tasty--really enjoyed the espresso martini and the old fashioned. Service was just so-so. We had a table of eight, and our server never asked about refills (water or pop), and we had to snag her for more cocktails. Would I go again? Maybe, but just for drinks.

Stopped in on a Thursday while visiting a conference. The restaurant was aesthetically pleasing, well lit, and had college basketball sweet 16 playing on all of the TVs. We started off on a rocky start since our Blue berry vodka drink didn't taste good and had no hint of liquor in them. Sent them back and ordered basic vodka-cran. Next, I order 3 appetizers for the table: Calamari, steak tips, and nachos. Out of the 3, I'd order the pork nachos again. The steak and calamari were soooo overcooked and chewy. As for dinner, one had soup, another person had a salad, two people had burgers, and the last person had seared tuna. Burgers were well-WELL done with no flavor. Everything was described as ok but with a shrug. Drinks were ok but the food was hit or miss. I'd come here again for just for drinks and ambiance.

Let's start off with the stellar ambiance this place provides. If you're a bourbon drinker this place is for YOU! They literally have everything you've wanted to try at reasonable prices. The service was kind and attentive. They also brought our food and drinks quickly! As for the Rueben sandwich it was very lack luster and I wouldn't order it again since it was very dry. I'll definitely be back to try some other dishes!

I called to ask of they take reservations for two people, the woman said they don't take reservations. Pause. Then I asked if two of us could walk in, she replied yes. Ok. It used to be Avery's before it became Whisky Rae's. They have a wall of shelves of over 200 whiskeys at the bar too. They are out of Turkey burger, Porter house and tap #7 tonight. We ordered the 6 herb roasted chicken with an upcharge of onion rings ($3), house salad with honey mustard and side of broccolini, duck grilled cheese with an up charge of crispy waffle fries and a Cobb salad sans bacon, ranch dressing on the side. There was a $1 charge for the side of whisky BBQ sauce. Our waitress waitress is nice, attentive and helpful too. She asked if we wanted the food all at once or when it's done. I said whenever it's done. She let us know the sides that were an upcharge as well while ordering too. She brought us side plates when I told her we are sharing all of the food. The house salad is ok. The Cobb salad is okay as well. No romaine in our Cobb, it's mixed lettuce, which I don't mind at all. I do like the black slate plates as well, but they look like they are hard to clean. The duck grilled cheese is just ok. Duck was a bit to fatty for a sandwich for me and there just wasn't enough cheese to qualify as a grilled cheese sandwich for us. The duck is still yummy with the seasonal berry sauce. The seasonal berry sauce is good, maybe a bit thicker so it doesn't all run off the sandwich? Plating the grilled cheese makes it more appealing to see the meal and cheese as well. The 6 herb chicken has nice flavor for sure, the leg and parts are a bit dry though. The breast is dry as well. Good flavor but need to work on not overcooking the chicken. Kurtis checked up on us and took some constructive feedback on the chicken and the duck grilled cheese. Kurtis did acknowledge that they have had some complaints about the chicken being too dry. Kayla took really good care of us tonight. She's on it. Really good at what she does for sure. I wish everyone that ever waited on us had half her skillset. Iron out a few items and they are on the right track.

Jake and Curtis made our night! So glad to have finally visited this bar. The interior design is very cool. Variety of seating. We had the bar to ourselves on a rainy weeknight. Big parking lot and great location near highways. The whiskey selection is excellent (big surprise). The prices are fair, but on the higher side. Would love to see if they have happy hour. Slim pickings for vegan eats. I think we ordered fries which are fried in the same friolater as the meat. But we're psyched to come here and drink.

Conveniently located, I found myself needing a break from shopping (and wanted a World Cup update)…read moreand Griffin Claw was the perfect solution for both. I sat at the bar where Mae very thoughtfully helped me navigate through the extensive been menu. I was very impressed at the selections! She brought me three tasters and, honestly, each of them were fantastic. It seems fitting that I chose a pint of Conflict of Interest in the midst of a difficult decision! The food menu is just as impressive. I'm certain anyone can find a favorite. I ordered the blackened chicken gnocchi and found myself in flavor heaven. I've made and eaten a lot of gnocchi and this is easily the best I've ever had. Mae agreed with me and suggested it's because there's cheese in those potato pillows. I dunno but I would eat this every day if I could. If I thought they'd keep, I'd buy extra and take some home. Meanwhile the bar crowd was friendly and chatty as we watched soccer on a few TVs. It was pretty chill, everyone just kicking back with great beer, tasty food and a worldwide sporting event. That said, I'm not waiting four years to come back!

Sat outside most recently and brought our toddler. She got to run around and explore. The fineapple cider on draft is my favorite and so refreshing. Menu wise has so many options. We went with the beer bites and cheese. The food cane out hot and the cheese is so good with the pretzels. The kids grilled cheese was a big size and tasty. Love the shoestring fries. So impressed with all of their drinks they make in house. Came another time for dinner with a friend to catch up. A large group took over the dining room. Stayed way past they were done with their food and drink. They stayed 5 hours and disrupted the restaurant. Our waitress gave us a small discount for how annoying these people were. She said staff were even over them.

We were told before we were…read moreseated that we had to be gone in an hour because they had another group coming even with a reservation. Our food ended up taking forever to come out so we were rushed to hurry up and eat and leave when it came out. For appetizers we got the chips and dip and salads. The dip had a long piece of hair in it and we immediately sent it back and the waiter looked at us like we were crazy for not wanting it. The salads were pretty good - big portion with lots of fresh toppings and dressing. For entrees we got the buffalo chicken sandwiches and the grilled chicken plate. My mom asked for no buffalo and it came with buffalo on it so she didn't love it. Mine on the other hand was pretty average. It was a large portion and had a good amount of toppings on it that altogether was very flavorful. I did ask for ranch on the side when i ordered and it took awhile for it to come out. The chicken plate was just about the only good dish we had. It came with a good spread of well prepared food and was a healthy option on the menu. The worst part of this experience was when we asked for bags for left overs the waiter told us to go get it ourselves so we had to awkwardly go behind the bar to grab it. Overall the service was terrible- everyone was rude. The food was slightly above average but with the hair in it and messing up our orders i would not recommend. Even though this is in prime location there are so many better options in the area. I could see this place having potential for coming for drinks with all the tvs or on the rooftop in the summer but thats about it.

That said we had a short wait at 5:30pm. No issues there as a wait is to be expected on a Saturday night. Once sat waitress approached and she was quite friendly. Took our drink orders and once delivered took or appetizer order of Wings and our Entree order Buffalo Chicken wrap and French Dip. After a longer than normal wait I see food headed our way and it is both the appetizer and entrees at the same time. That should have been a sign to send the wings back as they were no longer an appetizer once server with the entrees. We decided to roll with it though. First wing was fine but when I bit into the second wing it had an odd texture and I looked down at the wing flat to see uncooked, bloody chicken. Thankfully I didn't swallow and discarded the bite into a napkin. We picked at our entrees after that but it ruined our appetite. We flagged the waitress over as soon as we saw her to inform her. She cleared the wings but never circled back until it was time for the bill. Comment on the French dip, super salty. Would not recommend. Also the bread it was served on was more of a ciabatta roll that did not hold up well to being dipped. Thankfully they took the wings off the bill but truly we couldn't eat after the mishap, so spent $50 for a half eaten meal.

The Whipped Feta was excellent - the pita that came with it was piping hot and crispy from being fried. That crunch was so satisfying with the sweet taste of the cheese. The slider sampler was perfect for us to share - pick 3 different slider offerings and you get 2 of each. It also comes with a choice of side and we went with tator tots. I loved the way its served - on a large Ploughman's-like metal tray. The sliders were good just not unique, although, I wasn't expecting anything unique at this place. I'm pretty sure there was only one waitress for both the bar and the dining room floor. The menus were sticky, especially the happy hour and drink my news. Lots of different cocktails. I ordered a margarita and was asked if I wanted a flavor. I asked for mango but then was told later they were out. So I went with blackberry. The drink was fine. It wasn't the best margarita I've ever had though. It's called O Grizzly's and there's some Oakland University nods inside. There were quite a few patrons wearing Golden Grizzly gear, there was a basketball game that night. But the place still feels gimmicky to me. A way to market Oakland University people and get them in the door but doesn't do much else after that. There really doesn't feel like a true affiliation with the University. Bathrooms are single stall and felt clean. The menu is not too overwhelming. Went with the blooming onions and they were absolutely delicious. Hot onions with a crunchy batter and a yummy dipping sauce. I went with the Tandoor wings as it was really played up on their menu. I got medium for sauce. My husband got chicken tenders and we ordered a side of fries. I was disappointed with my chicken wings. They were a good size but the skin was rubbery and some of the chicken tasted chewy. Also, the sauce was very runny, didn't really stick to the chicken wings. I am not sure where the Tandoor part was to the wing? They gave about five half sticks sliced in half of celery for nine wings, not enough at all. I asked for blue cheese but was given ranch. The fries were thicker, cut, and swirly, which are interesting and they had a good seasoning on them. Our waitress was friendly and decently attentive, considering she had to serve every table and run the bar. Food was coming out decently fast. But getting our check and cashing out took a while. It got to the point where my husband just went up to the bar where she was so we could cash out.

Disappointing Happy Hour Experience and Misleading Advertising…read more I went to Grand Tavern in Rochester Hills today specifically to try their happy hour menu advertised on their website. Unfortunately, the menu at the table had different prices. Food items had increased by $1-$2, and beers advertised at $2.50 were now $3. To make matters worse, the $3 beers are listed as pints but are actually only 14 oz. There was also a digital sign at the host stand still advertising the old happy hour menu and prices. Between the outdated website and in-restaurant signage, this felt like a bait-and-switch. I brought the discrepancy to our server's attention. She explained that the menu had changed months ago and said she would let the manager know. If the changes happened months ago, why are the old prices still being advertised? Customers shouldn't have to discover these discrepancies only after sitting down and reviewing the menu. The food wasn't much better. We ordered the whipped feta, and the pita chips were oily and soggy, looking nothing like the photo on the menu. Overall, this was a frustrating experience. Accurate pricing and honest advertising are basic expectations, especially when a restaurant is promoting specific happy hour deals to attract customers. Grand Tavern needs to update its website and in-restaurant signage and do a better job delivering on what it advertises. Based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend coming here specifically for happy hour.
