Went here with some coworkers after work as we heard about the "Girl Dinner". We were so excited and we brought one of our gay coworkers and when we went to order the girl dinner for all of us the waiter told us it was only for girls. I know it's not his fault but it seemed very discriminatory to not allow him to have the dinner. It's based off of obviously the trend for girl dinner so unsure why we were only allowed to get it and not him. The service and food was nice but it did rub us the wrong way that he wasn't allowed to join in on that experience. It's not advertised that it's only for girls so if it said that it would maybe make sense but it didn't so we assumed he would have been able to join in on the fun. read more

An unexpected and amazing local find in metro Detroit. Cradled in a corner of the Village in Rochester Hills was a striking artistic eatery that drew our attention on a rainy night. We could sample whiffs of the tempting fusion cuisine upon entry of this chique and artistic interior. We were greeted by Deanne who sat us at a center section near the brightly lit bar. We admired the open air and warm layout that captivated the artistic details preoccupying our views and helped facilitate the time between our courses. Wasn't long before our server Chad appeared and ran through the popular and seasonal specials and offered suggestions given our first indulgence here. For appetizers we ordered the white mushroom flatbread and bang bang shrimp - both were excellent! Our main course included an order of the braised short rib and a plate of grilled ribeye. Although the portions seemed smaller than expected, they were both DELICIOUS and left us room for the suggested dessert. Can't remember the dessert name but i'd describe as a freshly baked muffin with sour apple frosted drizzle that was infused with wintery warm flavors - again, a delicious finish even though we shared. It was evident that the personal touches set this place apart from the other corporate eateries nearby. We also determined through chatting with the staff that this eatery is a locally founded Michigan business started by Michigan born entrepreneurs. Thanks to Deanne, Chad, Evan and Chef Michael - we were really delighted to find this place nearby. Was worth the try and struck high marks in all the appetizer, meal and dessert categories, which rarely ever happens for us. Salads tasted like cheap, bulk-store dressing with stale, rock-hard croutons. Entrees "Remade" dishes arrived both burnt and cold simultaneously. My friends and I attended the girl dinner promotion at The Jackson and it was a cute idea. Girl dinner includes your choice of martini, truffle fries for the table, Caesar salad and choice of lemon cream tortellini or spicy vodka chicken Parmesan. We were a table of 4 but only received 1 bowl of fries. As we looked at other tables it seems the same amount was given no matter the size of the party. It would have been better if each person was given an individual serving of fries, the same as the individual salads. The chicken parm was just ok. The sauce wasn't spicy and lacked seasoning. This is such a cute place. It is decorated to be in a Jackson Pollock theme and it definitely hits the mark. I had made reservations for 4 people which is all that is allowed per their website when I made them. With friends dropping out last minute, it wasn't a problem for the restaurant. The coffee setup is so cute. Even without a handle on the coffee mug, it doesn't get too hot that you can't pick it up. I went with a huge spread for lunch partially because I couldn't decide and partially because it was just me and they had been expecting 4 people. The cones are so much fun. You can definitely make a meal out of them. I would probably do a meal of only them in a future visit. I also got fluffy pillows which so garlicky but oh so good. I would have them again but only if I were sharing with someone so I'm not tempted to eat them all. The wedge salad was good...a unique setup... The desert that I had was amazing. The decor is amazing and very contemporary. I loved the wallpaper and light fixture in the restroom. All the food was exceptional and they have great sauces. The service was very slow as there was only one server for the entire restaurant. The hostess was helping as much as she could. The fryer was not working so we could not get the two appetizers we wanted. Two of the four of us did not get what we ordered. This is a newly opened restaurant in Rochester Hills off Adams and Walton. It's in a fairly small space in the building so be prepared to be close to other tables. It has a nice relaxing vibe and you are immediately welcomed after you pass through their small vestibule (nice addition to keep the chilly air out). We had reservations for 4 to celebrate a birthday in our group. Our server asked if we were there for any special occasion and when I told her, she offered the birthday girl a glass of champagne on the house. I liked that touch over a free dessert. We ordered the Fluffy Pillows for an appetizer. It's their version of a bread basket. They take their bread and flash fry it and serve it with a flavored cheese spread. They arrived nice and hot. The taste is a bit on the salty side so be prepared but it is very good and they come four to an order so we all enjoyed one. Their menu isn't loaded with tons of choices and I have found that when restaurants do this, you will likely enjoy your meal. They've taken the time to create interesting dishes with different or unusual ingredients. I chose the Roasted Chicken. It comes cut into strips placed on a bed of the most amazing Parmesan risotto! The chicken was tender and the sauce that was poured over it was the perfect addition to balance out the risotto. And the portion size is excellent - just enough food to fill you up. I waited way too long to discover this gem in the Village of Rochester Hills. As a long time resident of RH there's not a problem finding great places to eat. So when this establishment opened in late 2024, I picked up a gift card for my wife for a Christmas stocking stuffer. It won't be another 6 months before we return. My wife and I chose to celebrate our anniversary here and I'm glad we did. I'll cut to the chase and say this may be the best dinner I've had in the Hills. Our waiter (and bartender) Paul did a great job while waiting on the other customers on a Thursday evening. From the amazing appetizers (crab fritters and prosciutto bruschetta) to the unique beat salad and the impeccable entrees (Grilled Halibut and Mahi-Mahi) you can taste the attention to detail in every bite. I highly recommend the following: -crab fritters, -beat salad,- grilled Halibut- Mahi-Mahi. Definitely want to try one of the craft cocktail's that sounded great. I did have a sip of my wife's expresso martini and it was nice. Our server, Paul was outstanding. He remembered it was our anniversary and treated us to desserts. The Jackson has been on our list since they opened. This was completely a last minute meet up. I love when that happens. We had a few hours to spare and we're looking for a good happy hour so decided to check it out. It was fairly early on a Thursday (I think we stayed from 2-5:30) so it wasn't very busy. We actually enjoy it that way. The two bartenders were super helpful and explained the menu. The cones intrigued us so we had to get them. They are small. Not a lot to share, but a great way to sample everything. We, of course, still managed to share them. The cones are made of a sesame type material and are filled with accoutrements. We chose the crab, the salmon, and the edamame and hummous. We enjoyed the crab and salmon ones most but the edamame and hummous was still surprisingly good! The steak tips were a perfect medium and incredibly tender. The sause was delicious. We really enjoyed our cocktails as well. There is a lot to see. Even the bathrooms are cool. The best part though was that the bartenders took a lot of time to chat with us and made us feel very welcome. I will definitely make the trip back! read more

I was here 12/14 for my engagement dinner, had just gotten engaged at Meadowbrook. Informed the restaurant beforehand in the reservation that this was obviously a special occasion. We were seated in about 5 mins after our reservation, cool we are not the type to care about that. What we did care about is the service. It was slow, our server was pushy and it was a bad experience. The server Jack did not say even a simple congratulations, he didn't ask if we were celebrating anything until we ordered champagne. They made no effort to make it special in ANY single way, not a free dessert which anything from low end (Think Red Robin) to higher end (Mortons) and everything in between. The manager couldn't be bothered to come congratulate or even just thank us for us choosing this place for something so significant. Obviously we'll be talking about this day for the rest of our lives and yeah, will have nothing good to say about The Jackson. No complaints about atmosphere it's a good looking place with good music. The food was certainly nice looking, we didn't find it to be worth the money. I am not chef but neither fish was particularly flavorful. We will not be coming back in any case to try it out a second time. Do yourself a favor and choose somewhere else for a special occasion, I sooo regret not choosing probably any of their competitors, so much better off at Rochester Bistro, Kruise and Muir, Silver Spoon. My fiancé brought me here for a surprise date night, and The Jackson did not disappoint. The decor was very cute and the space was intimate. Our service was great and the food was delicious. The only thing I wasn't a super fan of was the dumplings, however my fiancé loved them. The texture was a bit off for my palette, but the flavor was good. Everything else was delicious. Awful service and the quality of food has gone downhill. I had been here twice before and loved the meals on both occasions. About a year later I returned and was astonished to find such a dramatically different experience. Our party of 7 was seated promptly and drink orders taken relatively quickly, but we were soon forgotten. Had to remind the server of our drink order and throughout the entire meal had to proactively ask for more water. Took 1 hour to take our order and an entire 1 hour after that to receive it. Salmon was far too salty and pasta dishes were average. Above all, what was most disappointing was the server. I don't blame him for being overwhelmed as it seemed he was the only waiter in the entire restaurant assisted by two runners (small spot, but not small enough to be serviced by only one waiter!). However, he acted offended that we would dare to check on our order 45 minutes afterward, to follow up on our drinks, or to ask for water. Not once did he apologize for the delays or offer to make it right in any way. Clearly this place is under poor management and requires better training and more staff. We split the white truffle burrata appetizer and the ingredients were fresh and everything went so well together. It was delicious! I thought I left my purse there and called the restaurant. The place is very interesting looking and had a lot of abstract art work like Pollacks work. The seating is right next to each other across a bench. It is a small restaurant. The staff were very nice and welcoming. We had the fluffy pillows, the cones and beets & cream for starters, the fluffy pillows are over priced bread with a garlic Parmesan butter that should just be brought out without the $15 charge. The beets & cream was very good. The cones were a rip off. They are meant to be shared but are the size of the fork. They are one or two bite size and rather bland. Entrees we had were Chilean Black Seabass which was good but each of us had a different portions on our plates but the sauce was great and sautéed spinach and Swiss chard were lacking in flavor. The pork tenderloin was good. The sides of fluffy clouds were whipped potatoes were light and fluffy like clouds and had great taste. The lemon potatoes were amazing. The Miro Shrimp was out of this world good except for one little thing they added the sauce on top of the thyme that you can't really eat instead of on the shrimp itself. The desserts were okay the white chocolate almond cake didn't taste like anything but the lemon cream was wonderful but again the portion are not even cut. We had four sharing and brought out a small piece while the table next to us had two people with this massive piece. The Torte was very light and had enough of a coffee taste to bring out the chocolate flavor so well it melted in your mouth and as far as the ice cream that was supposed to be to come out with it was like cream sauce on the bottom no real ice cream like the description said. read more

What a gem of a restaurant! Not a typical chain in the mall. The decor is nouveau and clean with a hip vibe. The menu items are so unique we didn't know where to start. I love their small plates concept. Of course we ordered the cones - 2 salmon and one edamame hummus. The presentation was delightful and though they are small,they're packed with flavor. We shared the spiced pork dumplings, and tenderloin tip brochette. Both had an abundance of flavor. The truffle mac n cheese was creamy and not overpowering. Our friends shared the wedge salad and rack of lamb. The restaurant was at full capacity , and it didn't slow down the service at all. Our table was treated with 4 glasses of bubbly for my birthday-a very nice touch. Making a reservation at The Jackson is a must. Three of us came for lunch to celebrate a birthday. We ordered wine and the Finding Cosmo cocktail. The cocktail was served in a cute fish glass but with way too much ice and a straw. It was too heavy for me but delicious. I requested it be served in a traditional martini glass with no ice, no problem. My sister ordered the Lobster Bisque soup and raved about it - delicious with chunks of lobster in it. We ordered shareable plates - 2 of the Butternut Squash Bruschetta and the Tenderloin Tip Brochette. The bruschetta was not your usual bruschetta but more like crostini. The crust is very crispy, a bit hard but the topping delicious. With only 4 pieces definitely not a meal in itself. The tenderloin was well prepared with a delicious sauce - very good. We shared the White Chocolate Almond Cake for dessert - good, not great. It was thoughtful that they added a candle for the birthday girl, a nice touch. The coffee was good. It was served in double wall glass cups with no handles but an interesting design of air pocket inside so that it wasn't too hot to hold but kept the coffee really nice and hot. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was beautiful and uplifting. It is a little pricey with smaller portions but I think innovative. It depends on what you are looking for. Very uninspiring. My wife had a Brussels sprout salad for $19? Menu space, very under-staffed, average quality, meager portions and NYC prices. Completely underwhelming! Tried out the Jackson last weekend, looking to try somewhere new. We had the crab and cabbage fritter, fluffy pillows, and drinks to start. Also had the caviar cones which were good but was surprised that there was sour cream at the bottom of the cones, also tried the edamame hummus cone which I would not recommend. For mains, we shared the bolognese which was an average bolognese, the filet that was cooked perfectly, mushrooms, truffle mac, and lastly, scalloped potatoes which were underwhelming. I feel like the menu could be a bit more advanced and the flavors need to be stronger and stand out more. Not sure if it was just an off night with the seasonings and flavor profile. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is modern and has character, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Service could've been better, we were not checked on much, only to order and bring our food. Manager (maybe?) was nice, however. Our little table lamp had went out and he immediately noticed and replaced it which was not needed but much appreciated and shows he cares and exhibits attention to detail. Price was a bit much considering the points listed above and for a newer restaurant. Overall, I'd give The Jackson a 3.5 if I could since I'm indifferent but I'll give a 3/5, because I believe with some minor tweaks to the dishes, menu, and staff, The Jackson could be a favorite and worth another try. read more

Upon entering the restaurant I thought I was entering a Chinese takeout, the small waiting area leaves much to be desired. There was a 20 minute wait even with our reservation. Bar was full as well 7:15 on Tuesday. People waited outside on the side walk and needed to keep checking if their table was ready. Decor is trendy, nice vibe but very loud. Our server was great but the bartenders drinks were a little unbalanced (sweet). We shared 3 small plates and a side with 2 cocktails a piece. We had only intended on small plates and all were good. I really really wanted to love this place. The decor is hip and fun. It's sooooo loud inside. Seemed to be great GNO spot. I wouldn't go on romantic date here. They just opened and so it's always hard to get started so maybe things will smooth out after a bit. It was definitely packed and huge wait. We had reservations at 6pm and by 6:40 were being asked if we wanted dessert menu. We ordered 5 small plates to share and normally a small plate place, they slowly bring out food. It arrived all at once. I observed all the tables being hurried along. The food was artfully prepared but many dishes the flavor was off for me. My favorite things were the chorizo stuffed dates and the lemon dessert. I selected my drink partially for the tajin rim but it didn't get served with one. A bright spot was our server Jack! He was attentive and very helpful! Overall I think I just expected a more relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. It didn't help that a large group of people who knew two people at the bar but didn't have a seat was standing talking to them so it meant they were standing over us. VERY pleasantly surprised... went to the restaurant because I wanted to get a gift card for someone but wanted to try the food first. Absolutely delicious! It is a bit pricey, but everything is nowadays - at lease the food is worth it! We had several appetizers - of which my son said the steak tips were hands down the best he's ever had (and we get them often). The ahi appetizer was so good I could go back for just that! I was very surprised that this place had been open as long as it has - they definitely should work on the advertising because I would hate if no one is going here because they don't know about it! I'm fortunate to have traveled the world many times over and have had opportunities to dine at some very nice restaurants in LA, NY, Chicago, and many cities in the EU. This place is amazing and just what is needed in Rochester! Executive Chef Vaiciunas has created a beautiful menu that is unique and delicious - some of the best we've had. This is a wonderful addition to Rochester Hills, as there is nothing else like it in the area. The comments I heard from other patrons is that it makes you feel like you are in an amazing restaurant in a big city like LA, or Vegas. The food is pure art in its presentation, which makes sense why the Chef named it after the eccentric artist Jackson Pollock. The craft cocktails are all worth a try, especially "The Paint Can". This will be one of those restaurants that will have a several month waiting list, so get in when you can! read more
