We ordered the dip trip as an app and it was enough for 4 and well made 3 of us ordered tacos...lots of choices and every single one was good. This place has such potential. The service was excellent and the drinks were very good. The food however needs work. We got the dip trio guacamole (excellent), salsa, queso(hot AF). The carnitas taco was perfect, the chicken ones tasted like a salt lick, the fish one was oddly sweet. We also had the Mexican pizza which was asked about it being hot and the server said no but it came covered in spicy jalapeños. The cheese they use is all spicy. We ate here during happy hour on a Friday night. Backdoor might be the best upscale "drinks and an appetizer" place around. The margaritas are amazing, and the food is really good. All of the seating is very intimate and cozy, the wait staff is attentive and helpful. The seats along side the windows are great for people watching and hanging out. The only challenge is parking is tough (limited street parking) and there will almost certainly be a wait after 5 or 530pm. Love this place and can't wait to eat here again. read more

The staff is very friendly and will help you pick out the best flights with a delicious cocktail/margarita to pair with your meal. I recommend the chips and dips as an appetizer. The dips are Guac, (spicy) salsa, and queso. The mezcal flight was my favorite. The shots get smokier from left to right and tastier. They have a large selection of over 150 tequilas and also serve cocktails and margaritas. We ordered brisket and carnitas tacos prepared street style (topped with onion, cilantro and lime) and made it a combo, where it comes with rice & beans. The first time I was here, I stopped in with a friend after shopping. The tacos were delicious and the margaritas were great. Came back about 6 months later and we both ordered the same thing. The tacos were soooo salty I couldn't eat them! I had to send them back. My friend tasted hers and felt them same. They tasted like maybe the day cook had salted the and the night cook forgot and heavily salted them. The bartender acted as though I was being unreasonable. I suggested she go back and request a taste. We did not get an apology or even asked if we'd like to order anything else, so we drank our margs and headed down the street for dinner. It's a shame! For the holiday, they were only offering a taco bar, we could not order off the menu. It was a buffet setup in back, serve yourself. The food looked awful, low quality. They had paper boat bowls for customers to use, not actual plates. They served our $14 margaritas in small plastic cups. After seeing the food on other customers tables, we finished our drinks and left. This was a very unexpected stop for us as our night was planned very differently. But it was a welcome surprise! Located behind Demarcos Italian and wine bar, the Backdoor is a speakeasy taco and tequila bar. I love Mexican so you can't go wrong feeding me tacos. Lol. When we first arrived, it was just starting to get busy. We were fortunate enough to get a spot at the bar. By the time we left, it was standing room only. We just loved it here. There was something to see on every wall. Such a charming spot! The warm dark wood gives it a cozy feel yet it has an upscale ambiance. We tried out several of their drinks and split a taco dinner. Absolutely delicious! I do hope they get more help because two bartenders making handcrafted cocktails is definitely not enough. They were slammed. The service was understandably slow as a result. This may become my new "go to" spot in Rochester, as we frequent the downtown area quite often. Can't wait to bring my sister here next time! I loved it! read more

The atmosphere is nice. The seating is very limited so I suggest going right at 5 unless you like to wait. The drinks were good, we got a modelo negra and the 401. Chips and salsa were ok. The chips were great but there weren't enough and the salsa was just ok. The tacos were very bad, way too much meat and it was so dry, very little toppings. The refried beans and rice were bad as well, it tasted like box Mexican rice and canned refried beans. I will not be back for food but possibly for drinks. read more

The Backdoor is exactly as you'd imagine... like if D'Marco's made tacos. Made with as little effort as possible and charged top dollar. The chicken tacos appear to be made with dry, unseasoned rotisserie chicken and iceberg lettuce costing $5 apiece, and no salsa, sour cream, or sauce come with it by default. I seriously wonder if the owners of this place would themselves pay for and eat this low effort taco themselves. I could go to a number of authentic places for a cheaper and better taco. Add in your $15 dollar margarita and it's a disappointing and expensive visit already. I will say the margarita was good, albeit small, and the tequila list is massive, which is cool. Our waitress seemed more interested in leaving work than taking our orders. However, I don't doubt that normal people who want to go eat in Rochester will gobble it up. read more

Just found out about this place last week so my boyfriend & I went for a date night. It's super cute & easy to get a table if you go before 6. The food was pretty good. I cannot have gluten due to a medical issue, so tacos are my go to. The server seemed annoyed at my questions about what's gluten free. I love a good speak easy and the idea of a new spot in downtown Rochester was enough to get me to try it out. Walking in the place is quite small but quaint. The decor was lovely and the menu had a good selection of tequila and cocktails. We tried the trio of dips which came with chips and salsa, queso and guacamole. All three were delicious. We were a good size party so between all of us we tried most of the cocktails on the menu. My favorite was the pineapple jalapeño but if you like something on the sweeter side I would recommend the blackberry beret. Service however was very slow, I understand you've only been open a few days but only staffing 2 people to work the whole place? Not a good idea. Our waitress was also the bartender and the buser. It took over an hour for someone to take our food order and probably another 45 mins for our food to come out, which was delivered by the owner himself. Guess he realized only having 2 people working the whole joint was a bad idea. The tacos were pretty good which made up for the lack of help. Overall I would say a good place for a drink, dinner? Maybe not so much. I'm a firm believer in second chances so I'll be back to try this place again, hopefully they'll have ironed out all the kinks by then. read more

This was a horrible experience. While I lived my midnight margarita the great experience ended there. My brisket tacos were extremely spicy. I asked the waitress if the fish tacos were spicy as well and she said she would check. She never came back to the table. A female manager came over about 15 mins later and said no food in the tacos were spicy. She was very disrespectful and quite mean about it. She did not offer to get me anything else. We did not tip well as we usually do because the service was so unprofessional. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Sad to say...horrible service. I am not one to leave bad reviews but I have yet to receive such poor customer service. The space is small so there was a short wait but, we seated ourselves...the bar staff was not helpful, and they were so rushed for everything it was difficult to even communicate what we wanted! There was a miscommunication amongst us, when we tried to clarify...they basically shrugged their shoulders saying "too bad" and didn't care. When we asked to speak to a manager she told us that she was a manager and there's nothing that anybody could do for us. We told them that it was very poor customer service and their answer was "we are busy" and they walked away. Just RUDE! Long story short...we lost our appetite for tacos and ended up at the meeting house where service was amazing. I was so excited for this place but sadly very disappointed. read more
