Blackberry Beret Margarita & White Peach Sangria
Casey S.

Love this little speak easy taqueria behind D'Marcos on Main Street! It's an intimate setting, great for a small party of friends. The staff is very friendly and will help you pick out the best flights with a delicious cocktail/margarita to pair with your meal. I recommend the chips and dips as an appetizer. The dips are Guac, (spicy) salsa, and queso. The mezcal flight was my favorite. The shots get smokier from left to right and tastier. The white peach sangria is good if you like a sweeter cocktail vs the blackberry beret margarita which is a stronger drink. Overall, a great place to eat tacos and drink tequila! When the red light is on the tequila is flowing!

This is a cool taco and tequila bar! Located in downtown Rochester behind D'Marcos. It is very small inside and fills up fast. They have a large selection of over 150 tequilas and also serve cocktails and margaritas. We ordered brisket and carnitas tacos prepared street style (topped with onion, cilantro and lime) and made it a combo, where it comes with rice & beans. I would say the tacos were a little dry and skimped a little on the onion & cilantro. We would try this place again, we liked the atmosphere.

Delicious Jalapeño Margaritas! Beef Brisket tacos are our favorite! So delicious. One of our fave spots in Rochester.

We love the bartender, Valentina. She is upbeat, attentive, and very knowledgeable. Great atmosphere and excellent drinks. I love the salt and sugar options for the Margarita rim. This gem is located behind DiMarco's and has a wide variety of and .

Paper boats for food. Red solo cups for drinks.

Stopped in on Cinco de Mayo, their big day to take advantage of. This place considers itself a premium tequila and taco bar and "speakeasy". My friend and I got seated and looked at the menu. For the holiday, they were only offering a taco bar, we could not order off the menu. It was a buffet setup in back, serve yourself. The food looked awful, low quality. They had paper boat bowls for customers to use, not actual plates. They served our $14 margaritas in small plastic cups. After seeing the food on other customers tables, we finished our drinks and left. Strange that they would market themselves as high end and look that way with the decor, and then offer such low quality food and experience.

This was a very unexpected stop for us as our night was planned very differently. But it was a welcome surprise! Located behind Demarcos Italian and wine bar, the Backdoor is a speakeasy taco and tequila bar. I love Mexican so you can't go wrong feeding me tacos. Lol. When we first arrived, it was just starting to get busy. We were fortunate enough to get a spot at the bar. By the time we left, it was standing room only. We just loved it here. There was something to see on every wall. Such a charming spot! The warm dark wood gives it a cozy feel yet it has an upscale ambiance. We tried out several of their drinks and split a taco dinner. Absolutely delicious! I do hope they get more help because two bartenders making handcrafted cocktails is definitely not enough. They were slammed. The service was understandably slow as a result. This may become my new "go to" spot in Rochester, as we frequent the downtown area quite often. Can't wait to bring my sister here next time! I loved it!

I like the vibe of this place it's small and sort of dimly lit. It's a good spot for a date. The cocktails are fantastic. But, the queso tasted like it was from a can. The quesadilla was pretty good.

Lately, it seems many restaurants meals are just a bit smaller than they used to be. But not here. The quality of the hamburgers were great, the wrapped chicken sandwich was very good, the signature chicken wings are tasty and the hot honey chicken sandwich to me was the best one in town. So far, very little to complain about as far as the meals go. Now the service when picking up a takeout meal leave something to be desired. Firstly, when you walk into the restaurant to pick up your meal, the hostess will direct you to the bar to request your take-out order. And good luck getting the attention of a bartender when they're knee-deep in making drinks. What I'm saying is your meal may take a while to retrieve if they're busy. Which I think is unacceptable and why this place loses one star. But if you can get past that, it's pretty great.

For $16.00, I definitely should have tasted it felt more bourbon. It was a flavored ice tea. Wouldn't order that again Food was good. The garlic pretzel app was really really tasty. If there's 4 of you...you'd have to order 2. Very small portion but very good We both ordered the Hot Nashville Chicken sandwich with fries. Very tasty..however if you want it to be spicy hot...it's not at all. But it's good and I would order it again. I guess ask for hot sauce! I thought the food was good but a bit overpriced for the portion size. But it's Rochester, so I guess read the room, right? Our waiter, Sean deserves a huge shout out. Excellent, friendly and efficient service. A waiter that seems to really enjoy his job! Thanks Sean!!

The Hemmingway Room - Key Lime Pie looks better than it tasted. Less whipped cream, more lime flavor would be better.

We had a nice table which started quiet and proceeded to get louder and more vibrant as the night went on. Service was fine and fast throughout. She had the Smoky Maintain which was strong enough for her to ask for an extra splash of pineapple juice. I had an Amaretto Sour which was nicely presented and tested good enough. It wasn't as strong as hers though. She ordered their Salmon Bowl which had both teriyaki and boom boom sauce; tasted good and was an ample size. My steak and frites came. The steak itself needed a little more seasoning and could have been larger but the truffle fries were top shelf. The chimichuri sauce was good too. The key lime pie for dessert presented well, but it packed the tartness one wants. There was too much whipped cream and not enough lime. That was the only real disappointment. Everything else was pretty great. A 4.6 rounds to 5.

I could see this place being the perfect spot for a date night!

We could sample whiffs of the tempting fusion cuisine upon entry of this chique and artistic interior. We were greeted by Deanne who sat us at a center section near the brightly lit bar. We admired the open air and warm layout that captivated the artistic details preoccupying our views and helped facilitate the time between our courses. Wasn't long before our server Chad appeared and ran through the popular and seasonal specials and offered suggestions given our first indulgence here. For appetizers we ordered the white mushroom flatbread and bang bang shrimp - both were excellent! Our main course included an order of the braised short rib and a plate of grilled ribeye. Although the portions seemed smaller than expected, they were both DELICIOUS and left us room for the suggested dessert. Can't remember the dessert name but i'd describe as a freshly baked muffin with sour apple frosted drizzle that was infused with wintery warm flavors - again, a delicious finish even though we shared. It was evident that the personal touches set this place apart from the other corporate eateries nearby. We also determined through chatting with the staff that this eatery is a locally founded Michigan business started by Michigan born entrepreneurs. Thanks to Deanne, Chad, Evan and Chef Michael - we were really delighted to find this place nearby. Was worth the try and struck high marks in all the appetizer, meal and dessert categories, which rarely ever happens for us. We'll be back to sample the other items on your menu and will spread the word about this hideaway that'll save you a downtown trek to the D for an impressive caliber meal.

Save your time and money Despite having a reservation, it took 45 minutes to place a drink order and nearly two hours to receive entrees. We weren't served our main courses until after the restaurant had officially closed, and the checkout process took an additional hour. Sat at 7 - could not leave until 11:30 As servers ourselves, we were appalled by the lack of basic hospitality. The meal was a series of failures: Appetizers were old fries served without sauce; we were told we'd be charged when we requested dipping sauce. Salads tasted like cheap, bulk-store dressing with stale, rock-hard croutons. Entrees "Remade" dishes arrived both burnt and cold simultaneously. The quality mirrored low-end buffet food rather than the "art" the brand claims to represent. Should have listened to the first red flag...not surprised by a restaurant that would feel comfortable creating an identity off the back of a dead artist...your brand identity is saying your food is art...it is everything but.

Next thing to note however was how long it took us to even place the drinks order. The restaurant was packed and the servers were spread a little too thin. Our server took our drink orders after around 15 mins and rushed off before we could add appetizers to the order. On the plus side she was quite polite and also apologetic for the delay in service Luckily we were in for a slow catching up dinner and didn't mind the delay too much. My friends liked the filet tips pasta and the Cacio e Peppe which comes highly recommended. Burrata Caprese and Pollo La Collina were good but not remarkable as such. For drinks, I had ordered the Cosmopolitan which was a bit syrupy for my taste. The dessert - Italian lemon cake was yummy and they gave it complimentary for my birthday :) For such a busy night, there was ample parking at the square. Overall it was a mixed experience but I may go back to give it another shot probably on a slow week day.

Our food ended up taking forever to come out so we were rushed to hurry up and eat and leave when it came out. For appetizers we got the chips and dip and salads. The dip had a long piece of hair in it and we immediately sent it back and the waiter looked at us like we were crazy for not wanting it. The salads were pretty good - big portion with lots of fresh toppings and dressing. For entrees we got the buffalo chicken sandwiches and the grilled chicken plate. My mom asked for no buffalo and it came with buffalo on it so she didn't love it. Mine on the other hand was pretty average. It was a large portion and had a good amount of toppings on it that altogether was very flavorful. I did ask for ranch on the side when i ordered and it took awhile for it to come out. The chicken plate was just about the only good dish we had. It came with a good spread of well prepared food and was a healthy option on the menu. The worst part of this experience was when we asked for bags for left overs the waiter told us to go get it ourselves so we had to awkwardly go behind the bar to grab it. Overall the service was terrible- everyone was rude. The food was slightly above average but with the hair in it and messing up our orders i would not recommend. Even though this is in prime location there are so many better options in the area. I could see this place having potential for coming for drinks with all the tvs or on the rooftop in the summer but thats about it.
