The owner of this store is great. Unfortunately the Duracell batteries they sell are just sub par. Bought a marine battery in 22' for my boat. Was in a heated garage on a tender all winter. Battery was completely dead in spring and not covered under warranty? Bought another agm Duracell battery and guess what. All winter in a heated garage on a tender and 100% dead today again. It was one of the coldest days of the year today and of course the moment I was leaving work to go to my car I could hear it struggle to turn on. I immediately drove the Batteries Plus to see Bhushan to test my battery. He came out and tested it which indicated that my battery was basically dead. He helped me get the exact battery I needed to have replaced and was very patient. We struggled a bit to get the battery in, despite how cold, dark and late it was getting he got my battery installed without cutting any corners, while explaining to me each step. Outstanding all around service! I stopped by to confirm if my car battery was shot. Bhushan (store owner) came out and tested the battery, explained/educated me on car batteries, looked up the suitable replacement, and installed the battery right in front of the store! He was very thorough...there were several batteries for my car in the drop down menu but he checked every single line item to make sure I was getting the right battery. He didn't try to upsell anything and even filled out the mail-in rebate form for additional $10 off the battery....AND gave me a military discount! I have an older Samsung Galaxy phone and when the battery failed, I contacted my carrier about a replacement battery. Learned that they didn't have a replacement and didn't think it was replaceable due to the age of the phone. Went to the local Verizon store to purchase a new phone and they sent me next door to BatteriesPlus with certainty that the staff could replace it. Victory! I came to Batteries+Bulbs to get a new battery for my key FOB. It had been taking 10 or more tries to get the van unlocked so it had stopped being an annoyance and was now a concern. We did not want to be in a situation where we only had one working FOB. Bhushan, the owner and manager, was very professional. He replaced the battery but that didn't work. He was able to show me that the contact had worn out and the whole FOB needed to be replaced. We ordered the part and scheduled install. Apart from an attempt to upsell me a new car battery (mine is only 2 years old) installation was seamless. Until...later in the week when we discovered that my husband's key FOB had now been deactivated. So we found ourselves down to one working FOB -- the very thing we were trying to avoid. We have 5 kids and I share the van with my older kids so finding a time to return to Batteries+Bulbs to have this situation remedied was a challenge. I finally had an opportunity in April. Because he had not forewarned me that replacing my FOB would deactivate our second FOB, we scheduled a time for me to return with all components (including the actual keys) so that we would be back to having 2 working FOBS. If I had made my review without returning to have the situation remedied I would have given my experience a 2.5 stars. Communication was not great (he promised to call when the FOB arrived and never did; while I was in the store I observed him shaming a customer for not telling him information he needed but hadn't asked for) and the attempt to upsell me on a car battery that didn't need replacing was a huge red flag (he warned me that my van wouldn't start during the polar vortex that we experienced in January, however, the van sat outside and started without issue). I opted to give Bhushan the opportunity to remedy the situation and as a result of his handling that well and doing the right thing by ensuring both FOBs were programmed, I would now give my experience a 4. For something simple and straightforward like a replacement bulbs or batteries I would highly recommend coming here. If you do something major like a replacement FOB I would make sure you ask a lot of clarifying questions. read more

The battery in my very old cordless landline phone would not hold a charge. I could not open the case to take it out. Sorry I didn't get the name, but the person on duty got it opened up and located a replacement battery which he installed. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and proud of his store. I am so happy with the service I received on my iPhone. I walked into Batteries Plus Bulbs seeking help with a phone screen repair. Previously, I had my phone screen replaced twice at a different store. At Batteries Plus Bulbs, I felt like I was understood and the employees had a great understanding of my issue. I found out that the store that I went to previously to replace my screen, replaced it incorrectly. Fortunately, Batteries Plus Bulbs worked with me closely to help fix my screen and recover my data. Tried bringing an iPhone X for a battery replacement as the screen started bulging from the defective battery. It also isn't holding charge for that reason. The screen is completely functional, but unfortunately when I brought it in the phone battery was completely drained. The person looked at my phone and said the screen might also be damaged as it was not turning on. I told him the screen was fine and asked him to charge the phone for a bit. He tried plugging the phone for a couple seconds and would unplug it shortly hence the phone won't get enough charge to turn on - so he said it won't turn on and the screen also is not of any good. Once again I told him the screen is completely fine. I see where he's going from here - he wants battery and screen replaced versus just the battery. Long story short, went home charged the phone longer that a couple seconds and turned right on. Will be bringing it to an Apple store instead. If I do need a new screen at least it'll be diagnosed right. I wanted to give this local shop a chance, but unfortunately as usual making the most money out of the customer comes first that being honest and genuinely trying to help. Review update: brought the phone to an Apple approved repair shop (Bestbuy) and not a single assumption was made (broken screen, power, battery swelling ) until they have ran a full diagnostic assessment on the phone - this is to compare to what the staff did at this store (held the phone, tried charging it for a couple seconds and said needs battery, power, and most likely screen). Long story short learn from my experience, bring it to an Apple approved repair shop. The phone battery was replaced and they even replaced the speakers for $60+, works like brand new :) read more

The screen on my iPhone 7 had cracked, and I needed to get it replaced. After calling around, I found that the Batteries Plus in Gurnee was the only place within an hour of me that had it in stock. I took the phone in on the morning of 10/15/19 and the guy behind the counter said it would take about an hour. I went to run more errands and came back an hour later. The guy came out and said it would be a few more minutes. A few more minutes turned into another hour and a half. He finally brought my phone out and said that he'd had trouble getting the case back together. I later replaced my phone and decided to give the 7 to my father-in-law. It was still in great shape and now just needed a new battery. My wife took the phone to another location to replace the battery, and we learned that they could not do it because the security screw had been stripped and rendered useless from a "previous repair" and that attempting to remove the damaged screw could destroy the phone. So, when the guy at Batteries Plus said he was having trouble getting the case to close after replacing the screen, what he meant was that he destroyed my property and hid that fact. I called today to let him know that, and he wants me to bring the phone back to him... to ruin it even further? And have him charge me for it? He refused to take ownership of his mistake when he made it, and still won't admit his wrongdoing. Never again. read more

I've driven past this place a lot and always thought who would ever stop in for just a battery or bulb? Well back in November I need a battery for an office alarm. The alarm company wanted to charge $250 to come out and install it. I called this store and found they had what I needed for $35! I stopped in and spent about a 30 minutes chatting with the owner about his business. He is AMAZING! Such a nice welcoming guy. I have since gone back two more times to get some unique bulbs and I always look forward to my visits. You can't beat the customer service and pricing!
