I also wish the reading booths had more privacy - they are just closed off by a curtain, and you can hear parts of peoples' readings in certain areas of the store. This lack of privacy was a bit of a turn off for me for getting readings here, personally. They were able to take my friend right away for a reading, though, so getting an appointment in the shoulder season seems relatively easy. I'm told the line for this shop goes down the street closer to fall, so clearly it's beloved, just wasn't the shop in town that most resonated for me.

Nice to see the lil bees do their thing. There's a variety of unique beeswax candles with incredible designs. My eyes landed on some chapstick and I constantly need lip balm at work from the dry air in the lab. After smelling the unique scents, I went with the classically calming lavender! I've been going to the flagship store in Newburyport (NBPT) for years when I go up in the spring…read moreand summer months, so I was thrilled to see a sister store was open in Salem MA. The Salem store is bigger than NBPT, but offers much of the same items, plus Salem-branded merchandise, including clothing. It's in the plaza near the marina so there's a wonderful view to take in steps away. The store has more natural lighting due to the larger windows, but doesn't have as much "character" as NBPT store. I think it's because NBPT is a typical coastal New England city whereas Salem is known for its rich history with witchcraft, which the city heavily promotes. Salem is the place to be come Halloween. Foot traffic here can be high, so you may spend more time moving around people and may miss some of the gems that this store offers. When it's slow, browse. Look at everything. There's so many unique items, a lot that are from local vendors/individuals which is nice to see. If you're in Salem for the history, you should stop by here. Lots of great gifts, friendly staff, and easily accessible location, make this store a no-brainer stop.

It's the regular run-of-the-mill tourist gifts that you see in a lot of these stores. I understand their needs to be Salem merchandise, but it would be nice to see other funny little things in that store like they used to before. Again, I don't know if it's under due management or it might be going out of business which would make sense why nothing is lit up or on display, but it was very underwhelming and disappointing to see this twice this year in this condition.
