We were glad we stopped by. Good fresh beers and interesting choices. Not just the same old ones. Food was good too.

Good beer and what appears to be a family friendly vibe. Worth a stop if you're heading up route 1.

We requested a table with a view and were allowed to hang around the bar area while we waited. The wait was only about 10 minutes and the table we were given had a wonderful view of the harbor. Our waiter was at our table to take our drink order almost immediately and promptly took our food order when he arrived with our drinks. Our food came out fast and was all hot, clearly nothing had been sitting under a heat lamp at window and was brought right to our table as soon as it was ready. Pickle chips - first it's worth noting that these are not made with dill pickles, they're the sweet "bread and butter" pickles. It's not my personal preference, but some may prefer that. Either way, it probably should be mentioned on the menu. The fried pickles themselves have a perfect thickness of breading on them, which does seem to have some seasoning in it. Every one of them was crispy and the breading wasn't peeling off like it does at many other places. The dip they came with tasted like it might have been a blend of thousand island and horseradish. Fish and chips - both the fish and the fries were very fresh. The fries were definitely freshly cut and not frozen. The fish had just the right amount of perfectly crispy breading on it. Neither the fries nor the fish were soggy. The only feedback I'd have here for improvement is for the sauces. If you're going to go through the effort to use fresh fries and fish, then why use store-bought tartar sauce? I'd love to see them start making some fresh tartar and maybe even some homemade ketchup! Fried clams - My wife had the fried clams and one of her favorite reasons for coming to this restaurant is that the menu states that they don't use any hydrogenated oils in their food. She also really enjoyed her clams and found them to be crispy and flavorful.

We chose to eat here because of the huge patio, with lots of shade, that overlooks the water. The location is unbeatable, and we did not have to wait for a table on a busy summer day. Our service was also incredibly friendly, from the young men behind the ordering counter, to the waitor who served us our drinks table side. The only reason I am giving this three stars is because the food was just average. We ordered a chowder, a lobster roll, grilled cheese, and a hot dog. The grilled cheese and hotdog were good, but the lobster roll and chowder were just okay for the price. The chowder was a bit watery and not as rich as some of the others that I have had. The lobster roll was a little small and needed to be jazzed up with some more mayo or lettuce. Overall I had a really nice lunch here and would definitely return just for the location and service.

"Take me to the pilot, lead me through the chamber Take me…read moreto the pilot, I am but a stranger" (Elton John) Our convention committee was in town celebrating last summer's successful event after years of planning. Five of us headed for lovely Kennebunkport, but where should we meet for lunch? Choosing a lunch spot could've taken all afternoon, but a trusted local steered us toward the Pilot House. So that's where we met up -- and it ended up being a terrific lunch. It has a scenic location in a harbor on the Kennebunk River, where the whole waterfront is dotted with boats. The big dining room is equally pretty with colorful nautical flags covering the ceiling and maritime décor everywhere. Pilot House was packed, I mean pretty much every table and every barstool, but after a short wait a table opened up for us. Our server, Carley was great- with a super nice attitude and quick water glass delivery. Pilot House's menu has plenty of seafood options among its appetizers, soups, salads, baskets, sandwiches, and entrees. I went with their Fish Tacos ($19) - "Golden fried haddock, red cabbage slaw, queso fresco & house made candied jalapeño aioli. Served on flour tortillas". I asked Carley if I could get the fish grilled instead of fried, and that was no problem. I loved the tacos; the fish was plentiful, flaky and tender and that jalapeño aioli was excellent. One of the other meals at our table included an interesting one. Ever hear of a Haddock Reuben? It was $21.00 for a marble rye sandwich with fried haddock, coleslaw, 1000 Island & Swiss cheese. Not a morsel was left behind. Two of us went with a Fried Baby Shrimp Basket ($24), a huge feast of golden fried baby shrimp, French fries, coleslaw & cocktail sauce. We were seated in the far-right side of the dining room by a bank of windows, and I noticed what looked like a huge yacht connected to the restaurant by a walkway. Turns out there is a restaurant bar up there. I so wanted to scoot up there for a few photos, but it wasn't open for the season yet. Oh well, maybe next time. Just another reason to visit the Pilot Hose because the food and dining experience were top-notch.
