We ordered the wild gulf shrimp skewer (4 shrimp) served with sautéd greens- perfectly cooked Broccoli Rabe. My mother got the special Smoked lame sandwich. It came with a banana glaze and fennel jam. It was excellent. We were so impressed with the food we had to try a small order of the brisket and fries. That was excellent too. The only bbq spot that I know of that's close by. Their beach box is a good deal for variety, price, and the amount of food you get. Wife loves their honey bourbon wings and we usually order that along with a side. I would suggest passing on the fries as they're not crunchy and the sautéed greens. read more

They always say third time's the charm. Hmm. This is my second time. And trust me: there's NOTHING like the first time. Ok. Here we go... Had a taste for BBQ. Ordered the Beach sampler (or whatever), just like my first time. I came for the AMAZING cornbread. So much so that you get 3 sides--I picked 2 pcs. cornbread. Sigh. Def was NOT what I remembered. What I remembered had me contemplating coming back the following morning for a hot fresh piece to go with my coffee. This. Was. Not. That. And it was burnt. And crumbly. Ughh. I gave it away. The meal: MEH. Not thrilling. I don't typically do chicken. I gave it away. The beans w/brisket pieces was the most interesting thing on my plate. Ribs hard. Sausage tasted just warmed up. No crispy skin. Brisket over fatty. But that's probably what saved it. Pulled pork was...pulled. That's about all I can say. Verdict: I am fair. Only reason why I will be back is because there are very few places I know of in Far Rock for food. If you come here make sure to try to mac and cheese, brisket, corn bread, the burgers and most importantly their wings. Their wings are the best in the neighborhood. I misunderstood their menu on uber eats and got a burger with nothing on other the the meat patties for $14. Dry as a bone. Since I didnt add any tomato/lettuce/sauce "addons" for $0.50-$2.00. So I live a couple of blocks away and never eaten here. I ordered in today and the food was fast and still hot. I got the shrimp skewers, ribs, Mac n cheese, buttered corn and baked beans. As everyone says the shrimp is amazing. Mac n cheese and beans are delicious. Buttered corn is what it is. The ribs were juicy and the BBQ sauce is great. I definitely recommend. A little food for a lot of money. Half pound of brisket had a lot of gristle and fat along the edge. This wasn't the good kind either as it had to be cut off. The brisket was more like something you get from a deli steam table than a bbq place. Very pot roast like. It was juicy though. Pulled pork was tasty but again it was like from a steam table and it was just over shredded. Potato salad was good and saved us as the $40 of food was barely enough. I thoroughly enjoyed the Pulled Pork Barbeque sandwich, with the classic sweety sauce, and the Nonna's red potato salad. His hard boiled eggs melted in your mouth. I'm a man from Kansas City. Which means I am a barbecue snob. Kansas City Missouri is the capital of barbecue in the United States. I was raised on it, so I am very picky when it comes to my barbecue. There's that one trendy joint in Williamsburg, the one that made the newspapers and lead to a franchise expansion out in Japan. That one is crap. Mables, in Brooklyn, is pretty good and was the site of our wedding rehearsal dinner. This place beats them all. I met one of the owners, I think Catherine, right before they opened. I had my toddler with me and asked when they were opening because I was in desperate need of some good barbecue. They open the next day, those sadly I did not get to try this place for a few months because life is tough with a rambunctious toddler and a wife who works 100 hour weeks. It was absolutely, completely worth the wait. We were at the beach bag so that we could try pretty much everything. The ribs were incredible. The pulled pork was very good. I have never thought much of barbecue chicken, because it is typically chicken sliders and barbecue sauce and who really cares? This was pretty much that, that was very juicy. The baked black beans with brisket in them? Fantastic. I could eat an entire meal of just those beans. The service was awesome. The beer selection was great. If I wasn't on a diet, we would have returned to this place a dozen times already this year. I will be back when I'm under 180 pounds. read more

Loved Batesy's. There wasn't one thing that didn't exceed my expectations. This instantly became one of my favorite places on the peninsula. I can't believe it took this long to get down here. Unfortunately, I was staying away from booze, but their drinks looked unique and intriguing. They had craft beers , spirits and frozen cocktails. Even with it being middle of winter, it took a lot for me not to order a frozen. The food was exceptional. We stayed away from traditional bbq and ordered a chicken sandwich and burger. The burger was hands down best in Rockaway. Probably the last great burger i remember having in a long time. The staff and owners were awesome, as well. Helping us order and recommending food. Amazing food here. The deviled eggs were a really nice surprise to see on the menu and the were even better with the bits of bacon on top. So far the seared sausage sammie has been the winner for me, but everything I've tried so far has exceeded expectations. Photos to come on a future update. We came here on a Saturday night with husband, sister in law and her fiancee and ordered 3 brisket sandwiches, a pulled pork sandwich, cornbread, sangria, and a peach frozen margarita. I thought the brisket sandwich was well cooked, soft and juicy. They get crowded on Saturday night so come early. The reason for the three stars was because the portion size was very small for what they were offering. The sandwiches were about the size of my fist and I have small hands. I have made pulled pork and pickles in my kitchen for a fraction of the price that was offered at this restaurant. They make a good profit margin. Also, there are no meal options with drinks and sides (except for fries which you can add for $3.50. Instead the add-ons such as sides and drinks are very expensive. There is counter service at the kitchen and bar instead of taking orders. Instead of having a waiter/waitress, the maitre'd/manager also brings the food to your table. They have water and cups at the entrance for self-service which I thought was helpful. read more

I ordered this evening to-go. While the service was timely there were a few concerns. First, I ordered the chopped salad for my wife with added chicken. I got all the way home to find out that they failed to add the requested chicken to my order. I made sure that I spoke clearly and repeated myself several times to make sure they got it, but unfortunately directions were not followed. Next, I ordered the jumbo wings which to my disappointment were only small drumettes and not the whole wing which not only turned out not to be fresh(most likely frozen), but also had an astronomical price point for only six drumettes. Definitely not worth the money based on both quantity and quality. If you go down the street to their competitor, RBQ, you get six WHOLE wings pretty much for the same price, fresh and have an all-around better quality. The brisket I order was ok. Nothing to write home to mom about. Somewhat dry and could've been seasoned better. I've been eating brisket a long time and know what it supposed to taste like. And while this IS brisket, it doesn't even scratch the top 30 places I've enjoyed brisket. Overall, if I had to recommend barbecue in the Rockaway area I would rather recommend either RBQ in Rockaway Park or Swing Belly's in Long Beach. You guys have work to do.... read more

Mac and cheese and Sliced brisket sandwich. When they first brought out the Mac I said to myself, "oh great school lunch mac and cheese ." I definitely underestimated the way it looked because it was BOMB ya'll! BOMB!! We also tried the "Life's a peach" and "Jolly Rancher" drink. They were both tasty! I definitely preferred the jolly rancher because it was refreshing and minty. The atmosphere was pleasant too. The host, the bartender, the servant were all polite and friendly. I was on the boardwalk in the 65th St. vicinity & really needed a cool place as respite from the 90 degree weather. As it was my first time here on a whim, I was blown away by how amazing the simple corn was. I told the server & I'll say it on Yelp: I would visit again just for that corn. Delicious. I could never cook up something so good. Impressive. The cornbread was, um, hard as a rock. I tried to tell the server very gently that maybe I'm just not a cornbread person. It wasn't stale tasting. Just awkwardly hard, like a bagel gone hard a day too long . I knew if they had wrapped it in a moist cloth & popped it in the microwave for 1 minute, it would come back to life, but I was turned off by how hard it was that I simply wanted nothing to do with it. 4 stars for the corn & the air conditioning.
