Tiny place downtown. The whiskey selection was incredible. I love trying new drinks. I had a double pour Benjamin Prichard's Double Chocolate bourbon with a campfire s'more doughnut. Amazeballs. I'm becoming quite fond of this little cozy alcove on the south side of Congress. I believe it's way ahead of its time (or place perhaps) as a boozy breakfast cereal-y place with luscious melted cheese sandwiches, home made chips and...doughnuts -- say what? I just can't put it in a box, and that keeps me interested -- in my adoring confusion. The service is kind, efficient, thoughtful, afore-thoughful, and friendly. The food comes out timely and it's quite simply the best cheese and bread combo and freshness I've had in a comfort food sandwich. The menu on the board can be a wondrous bewilderment, but the server often greets with an old-fashioned in-hand menu. I have yet to try any alcoholic cereals (are they putting one on me?) as I am a lunch-break go-er, and it may have an overly subdued location and streetfront presence to create a passers-by allure -- they are just a block too far from all the lawyers in town and a couple blocks too far from all the students -- so I really hope they last and succeed. They don't have gluten free options to all their bready delights, which may also hinder some dietary minded fat craving seekers. There's something wildly creative at this place and I hope they're not too ahead of their time. I remain intrigued. read more

Imagine unplugged except with overpriced whiskey and stale Safeway doughnuts instead of wine and live music. Their whiskey list names everything they have (and what they have already run out of) and neglects to give you a price, so you can be surprised when it is time to close out. Unless you know your stuff you could be easily swindled with this sort of setup. I doubt it will last in the form I saw it- hopefully they will invest in real doughnuts because the concept is neat. read more

I really hate to do this but, as much as love the space inside and out, sadly I cannot say the experience was good or bad, I would have to go with marginal. We got a table outside, which was a big plus for a small table. Several people walked by, and I was not sure if they worked there or if they were patrons. It turned out a couple of them "kind of" worked there, after getting one of them to acknowledge me, he told me that I had to go the bar, open up a tab and order everything there. I'm good with counter service, but I just didn't know, I felt the tone was a little "Don't ask me for help I only work here". I couldn't really tell what grilled cheese's we got, they were okay, but not to be remembered or ordered again, the homemade chips were soggy and cold. I kinda think these guys got together and decided it would be cool to throw some random doughnuts, a lot of booze, and some other miscellaneous food and open up a place. Was very excited to give this place a try. 5 of us walked in and it was empty and started talking with the bartender to place our order for some cocktails and donuts. Took our card to open a tab when the rest of our group came in, about 10 more people. The bartender goes to the back and NEVER returns. 15 minutes goes by until the cook comes out and he can't find the bartender anywhere. He just up and left...never experienced this before in my life. Not only is that awful customer service but they are lucky we didn't just start pouring our own drinks because no one was watching the restaurant. The donuts tasted pretty dry and weren't that good, even though they were relatively expensive. The place is pretty small, so it's sometimes hard to find seats for a party greater than 2. Parking is also difficult since it's located downtown. Be sure to check their hours before coming because they are closed some days or open later than you would expect. read more

There is something to be said about an original concept in Tucson. The moment you enter Batch you realize everything is different. The dark lit ambience soothes you and the music playing picks you right back up. All this catches your eye before you even think to order. Seating is limited so find a great place to sit or share a table with some new friends. There is a selection of over 80 Bourbons, Whiskey's, and Scotches plus a full bar if Whiskey isn't your cup of tea. The doughnuts were hot and fresh and full of flavor. The selection seems to change almost daily which is amazing for any day of the week. The best thing I can say about this was the fact that everyone who server me is so knowledgeable about the Bourbons. That impressed me. It's a weird combo but trust me, you will enjoy it! read more

It's a tiny little place but it seems to have some real character to it. Shockingly, I haven't had their donuts yet but i did have their boozy cereal and it was AMAZING. I tried one of their tipsy cereals. It had cinnamon toast crunch, milk, sugar, and some fireball. Maybe a few more things but I don't remember... hence the "tipsy" part. I was worried it would be too sweet but the bartender did an amazing job. She got it just perfect. I could have had five bowls of this stuff. Stopped in one a Saturday night and sat on the cool little patio (great for people watching). My party tried several of the grilled cheese sandwiches (I do not remember the names, but one had lobster and one had goat cheese, apricot jam & honey) and they were GREAT! The grilled cheese menu was pretty impressive and there were several other options (salads, etc.) to choose from. While they specialize in whisky and bourbon drinks, there is a full bar including some nice local beers on tap and the bar tender seemed to know his stuff. As for dessert, the "boozy" cereals looked intriguing, but I went with a bananas foster dessert that consisted of a donut with ice cream and rum on it, which was delicious! So disappointing. Not only are there hardly any doughnut choices to choose from. (At least when I went there there were 5) none sounded the slight bit appetizing. My friend and I ended up splitting the rocky road doughnut and the guy working told us the water cups where self serve on the little cart. As my friend was paying I decided to get the water. As I pull a cup and start filling my glass I notice there is a lipstick Mark on the rim of the glass! Okay, gross so I pull another glass ANOTHER lip stick Mark! Okay this place is dirty. We left. I went to Batch a few days after they opened and was extremely disappointed. The donuts were the worst donuts I've ever had! For one, the waitress knew nothing about all the Whiskeys and when we ordered our donut she brought it to us cold, not fresh and it wasn't even the donut we ordered. I didn't ask for a different donut because heck- I love donuts and I'll actually eat any kind! It was thick bread that was dry and whipped icing on top with a few sprinkles. I was thinking that since it was specifically a donut place that they would for sure be awesome. When we inquired with our waitress she said the kitchen in back was too small to cook the donuts so they bring them from their east side restaurant "Saguaro Corners." I couldn't believe it! Otherwise the ambiance was hip and cute, very tiny but cute. The whiskey of course was great but it was just poured out of the bottle so minimal work other than having them on stock! I will not be returning to this place which is unfortunate because I also own a small business downtown and was hoping it to be delicious! read more

I visited Batch when they first opened and had a very poor experience. I am happy to report, upon returning to try a late-night grilled cheese, that it is better than my first visit. Their doughnut recipe has completely changed and is now what I would describe as "decent". (Much better than the atrocity of a flavorless bagel with watery frosting than they were serving at first...) The grilled cheese was good. The service was very slow (at 10pm on a Friday) and the place is small so it's just always cramped no matter how many people are in there (there were a lot of people). The chips were very good as well, and for $8 and some change I got a great portion of food. My friend knew about the Dipper- which is a small tomato soup bowl perfect for dipping your grilled cheese into ($1.25). I tried some of her soup on my sandwich and i would highly recommend this to anyone ordering. I missed it on the menu and was sad I didn't get some too. When all is said and done: I want to come back and try a weekday lunch. And then I want to come back and have some boozy cereal after work. (Smack My Batch Up sounded AMAZING.) read more

First time I came here, it was amazing. Today. Complete garbage. Apparently if you're going to order food here that is not a taco on Tuesday night, well, don't bother. Ordered 2 grilled cheese sandwiches and 2 cups of their what was delicious cups of tomatoe soup, 1 homer donut creme filled and one stud donut creme filled. Ok. Sounds super simple right? What we got were un-toasted 1/2 empty "grilled" cheese sandwiches which were cold, I mean gelatonish stone cold sandwiches, with cold chips, but a microwaved steaming hot pickle? Wth? No, I mean NO soup to dip it in and the homer donut all though ordered creme filled was not. When I requested to speak to a manager I was informed there wasn't one on site and they weren't sure when there might be. I mean really guys..really. How does one run out of soup and serve 2 cold non-cheesy sandwiches? There is only like 10 items on the menu and it's a grilled cheese sandwich... This place is ridiculous and we definitely won't be back. Oh, nd fyi, this was a $30 Dollar meal, that wasn't even a meal. This place is a fluff and no substance. Drink here, maybe.... Eat here... The doughnuts are not very good. The unfilled ones are dry, take off the toppings from the filled ones and you end up with a grocery store doughnut. I'd even go as far as to say that the doughnuts from the Safeway bakery are way better. Currently sitting in the patio area with a party of six and all of us feel like we did something wrong because our host and waitress is being really rude. I believe in the spirit of good customer service and reasonable communication instead of eye rolling and rude remarks. OK so I have checking here twice and am just getting my thoughts together and writing them all down! So, OK I work downtown and have BATCH's social media people beckoning me to come in with all the photos and things in my face online... it worked. Came here mid-week for lunch and was not disappointed. I like to check these downtown places out at off times to see what they are really about. The gigantic menu is plastered on the wall and with no one there at 11am, I got to take my time and check it all out. This place is very narrow and can see it getting crowded quick, but at lunch take a seat outside and people watch! The staff is very friendly but let them know you are overwhelmed and they will help you narrow down your choices. I had the basic grilled cheese, the tomato soup and of course a donut! I cannot remember the name of the donut but it had reeses peanut butter cup filling and chocolate icing, I almost fell alseep at my desk after returning to work it was awesome. They are made fresh daily so the earlier the better for these. In another check-in I actually got a while 1/2 dozen to go, worth the price if you are going to share! The food is creative and fun, make sure to check out all the grilled cheese varieties. What really stood out to me was the soup! Wonderful! It is more of a tomato basil bisque to me, but it was fab! You can get three sizes and one of them is a tiny sampler they call a "dipper" just for your sandwich. This little guy is enough for most people to have as a side even without a sandwich. Did I mention since the donuts are fresh daily you can get a coffee and a donut at a discount the next day. Love having this place downtown and will need to check it out in the night time hour as well. I will be back, darn working so close to gluttony and happiness! read more

I went to try some great donuts. I have NEVER been so disappointed. The Circle K I go to has better donuts in the rubbish bin outside. They were stale as if they had been there for days. The selection seemed interesting until you realize they put a weird topping on a stale donut (probably taken from the rubbish bin outside the Circle K I go to.) They may have a good grilled cheese. I didn't dare see how they could mess THAT up. So... tl;dr is. If you do a small number if things. Do them well or close your doors until you can. read more

I ordered a Bavarian filled chocolate donut with snickers and when i got it i guess they put so much icing on and the icing was so liquidy that it spilled over everything which made me not able to pick it up so i had to get some utensils. the first bite was nice, but then i realized that it was very sweet, We even got a donut for my stepdad to take home and when he ate it, he said that it was bad but i forgot what reason it was for. This is an update to a previous, somewhat disappointed review. I came back many weeks later and I'm so happy to say that this place has improved by so much. The whiskey menu is much more extensive and is now organized by region, which makes it easier to sift through. I'm sure we'll have to wait until autumn to start getting the crazy allocated stuff, but the core selection has become respectable. The "Reserve List" is not bad, could be more interesting. Prices are still on the high side for the more limited stuff (30 for EC18, for example), but it's not as inflated as some other places in town. As for the drink presentation, it's a good experience. Water is now take-as-you-want, which frees the bartenders up some. We were asked how we wanted our drinks, a welcome change from ice by default. Would still like some non-chilled glasses and something a bit more conducive to nosing (glencairn, copita) available for us whiskey nerds. Then comes the food. Man, I don't know what they did, but the donuts are much better now. The base is flavorful (I'd actually eat the donuts plain now!) and the toppings are still unique. Nice job. And they've added new foods to the menu, like grilled cheeses. I see they also do coffee for the mornings, making this much more of an all-day possibility. All in all, I'm very impressed with how much this place has improved. Kudos. Genuinely looking forward to coming back. read more

The soup the first time I was in was fabulous, now it's way, way too peppery. I've been in multiple times, the staff is nice, but one day a woman with almost a shaved head from the kitchen was the only one helping and didn't know how to make any drinks or where things were behind the bar, so I was confused as to why she told the bartender she would be OK when he was exiting and we were entering. Let down because we couldn't try any fun drinks, we had to stick to the orange blossom beer, which is good, but yeah we didn't go for beer. The sandwiches are great, but we ordered the grilled cheese that was supposed to have pickles and ground mustard inside and it came out without the pickles, maybe they were out that day. It's super cute inside and theres one bearded bartender who's maybe in his late 30's who is awesome. Super kind and knowledgable. Theres another who's really buff with long hair, maybe early 30's, who just talks about himself a lot and how he's a known mixologist and does competitions in NY or something which is annoying. But the owner I just briefly met and he's very kind and working hard it seems to make this bar run as smoothly as his other establishments, hence why even after weird encounters or mess ups when we've been there I'm a fan. It just opened, so I know slowly but surely everything will be perfected. read more

Good food, terrible service. If there is even one customer ahead of you, you might as well leave. I am not sure they could be any slower. The woman at the counter today felt it was more important to gossip with another customer about where she went to school (Western Michigan) and her favorite fruit beer (9.3 ETOH) than to take my order. This, while the kitchen staff stood idle. Eventually, I just left. I am not sure this place is serious about operating a a business. If you can catch them without any other customers and you have a few good stories to tell about your undergrad days, head on in. Otherwise, skip it. read more

I came here with my boyfriend not realizing unplugged had closed down, nonetheless we gave this place a try. We shared the hot fudge doughnut and I ordered a jasmine tea. The doughnut came out and was so underwhelming. I could have whipped something like that myself from ingredients at Safeway. They completely forgot about my tea and when I asked about it they didn't apologize but said it would be a sec. This was after we had finished eating our dessert and had been sat for a good while. They served me the wrong tea after all that time of waiting and so I don't think it worth giving this cafe another visit. Also we were not checked on which I was surprised since it was slow. It's a cute place but truly disappointed is about all I can say. You have 3 things that you master at Whiskey which you have a gigantic large collection Bravo. The donuts look old and dry and I'm pretty sure you could get better at Circle K. Now let's get to their main meal which is a variety of fabulous grilled cheese sandwiches. I ordered Billie June for an $8 sandwich ,I would like the bread to be fresh not dry not flavorless and when my sandwich comes with chicken I would like to taste a little bit more than a teaspoon of chicken. It came with ranch but I'm not sure I tasted any Ranch. What was also not great is that we were the only ones who didn't have to clean a place to sit, all the people that walked in after us ,had to clean off the table with a napkin because the tables were all dirty .
