I came here recently for their weekly taco popup. There were only two kinds of taco to choose from, meat and veggie, so I had one of each. Plus a donut. The tacos were quite small but good. The donuts were such a delightful pleasure to have while sipping craft cocktail and straight bourbon. We had the churro, crème brûlée and screwball whiskey donuts. Not only do they have their walls filled from sternum to ceiling with over 1100 bottles of various spirits, but their staff (as their owners) are beyond knowledgeable and have heard about whatever bottle or limited release you could think of. The bar is only as good as the staff though, regardless of the swill or luxury spirits they serve. That is perhaps one of the brightest spots of Batch, despite the beyond impressive selection of spirits. The staff is happy to chat with you about their favorite spirits, places and/or sights in town, or discuss whatever is on your mind in a way that makes them feel like an old friend. Ryan has been one of the best barkeeps I've been around in my 20+ years of drinking spirits and visiting bars. The decor is that of old bars and speakeasies, which is both comforting and a bit... minimalist if that makes sense. The bar features dark wood features, empty barrels of specially made spirits made specifically for Batch, or the owner's favorite distilleries. Lighting is low, but the chandelliers feature empty bottles and more than enough light to see everyone and everything you look at in the place. It toes the line between romantic, modern, and even... curious, as if there is something to hide in the low lighting. I loved the overall concept of the decor, as it reminds me of any high-end, luxury bar but isn't frivolous with the decor as to take away from the real stars of the place: the rare and expansive selection of spirits. The selection of spirits will put almost any collector's or bar's cellar to shame. There is going to be something for everyone, whether it be the most abrasive and high-proof spirit or a perfectly balanced cocktail... there is something for everyone and anyone here. Trendy cocktail bar that boasts the largest whisky selection in town! What I loved: The atmosphere! They really maximized the narrow floor space, providing as much seating as possible, but it still doesn't feel cramped. The dimly lit decor is modern, maybe even romantic when you're on a date. Service is top-notch, too--I've never had to wait long to get another round. What I liked: They have food here sometimes (I've been told tacos on Friday), and have doughnuts for sale if you need something to soak up all that liquor. I hope they're still doing the creme brulee doughnut--it was neat watching them blowtorch the sugar right in front of me. What needs work: The house cocktails don't really excite me. I think the bourbon choice for the house old fashioned is too sweet, and I think their prickly pear drinks are relatively bland. They do try their hand at some original concoctions but they're simple and not too adventurous, even if I did think the Purple Drink was tasty. So while it might not be the most innovative mixology, Batch is definitely worth checking out for the vibes. Prices seem to be middle of the road and some of their happy hour specials are definitely worth it. I will say that I have to agree with some of the other reviewers who say the bartenders aren't the most helpful when deciding what to order though (alcohol and food wise). I would give zero stars if I could. We have always been a huge fan but this place has gone down hill! The bearded bartender (sorry I didn't get his name) needs lessons in how to treat others- especially if he's trying to make money. We waited for 15 minutes to be greeted. He was standing 1 foot from us having a conversation and looked at us 5 times without even a "Hello." We eventually gave our order to the female bartender (again, sorry I didn't get names). She was lovely and also swamped! She was handling all the outdoor tables and indoor bar.... Just when I didn't think service couldn't get worse, our friends eventually tried to join us. Before being greeted- the male bartender yells "you cannot stand there, fire code." Not a "hey guys" or "welcome in" he just yells they have to leave. I was in shock. We almost left but they had a whisky we wanted to try. So we thought we would give the female bartender a shot. She tried her best but she had too many customers. We waited another 20 minutes with empty glasses before order our final pour. Bearded dude finally sauntered in from out back where he was taking a smoke break! This place was jammed and only had two people working and he was out back smoking. I have never had such terrible service. As a former server I have a lot of grace as I understand places get busy. Unfortunately, this was just lazy, unfriendly behavior that has no place in the service industry. The owner needs to think about his staff. He or she has lost 6 regulars.... for good. There are too many wonderful spots to spend money to be treated so poorly. Do better. read more

We stopped in as the finale of a fantastic food tour with Tucson Food tours and tried the bourbon filled donut as dessert. So picture a dunkin donut Bavarian creme with chocolate frosting-except substitute in a cream laced with Makers Mark and sprinkle the donut with crispy bacon. So good! We stopped by Batch on a Saturday afternoon, in part because we had a friend in from out of town who is a big whiskey drinker. They had picked out Batch to visit. My husband and I enjoy whiskey, so we decided to give it a shot. The good stuff first: they have an extremely extensive whiskey menu, including some of our Irish favorites (Redbreast and Teeling). Although I often enjoy whiskeys neat or on the rocks, I was in the mood for an Old Fashioned. I had the OH Old Fashioned and enjoyed it. The patio is right on Congress and was a fun spot to sit and people watch. The not as fabulous points: all available seating was uncomfortable. There were steel high top chairs with no cushions inside and slightly lower versions of the same uncomfortable chairs outside on the patio. Even if everything else had been off the chain, my husband and I couldn't have possibly sat there for more than one round of drinks. The bartenders/servers were the biggest disappointment. When I come to a place like Batch, I expect to servers/bartenders to be interested in talking about whiskey. At the very least, it would be helpful to get some recommendations/guidance. When we asked our server for recommendations (both on the cocktail side and for a flight of whiskeys) he shrugged at us and said, "Everything's good." Thanks man--super helpful. Even once drinks were ordered, service was slow, even though the place was not super busy. Aside from not having any recommendations and not wanting to talk about whiskey, servers were the level of friendly that I would come to expect from a big city (LA, NY, Chicago) and not Tucson. We did not order any of the food, as we weren't hungry and it seems mostly like a gimmick. If there is a particular whiskey you can't find anywhere else, this may be a good place to visit.
