Called beforehand; they said walk-ins are always welcome (but really, it makes sense to have an appointment anyways); otherwise walk-ins are used to fill in slots where appoints have been canceled or if there are no shows. Vision insurance is accepted, as well as payment without insurance. After checkin, waited for a bit before going through the standard eye exams. Afterwards, we were brought to the exam room. Reading letters on a screen occurs using the reflection of the screen located behind you in the mirror. Afterwards, the optometrist will come in and set you up on the slit lamp to inspect your eyes, and the phoropter to see how you'll see best. Optometrist was quick, efficient, and thorough. They'll let you know what's up if they see an issue with your eyes. Overall, friendly efficient staff. Easy to get the prescription after the exam. If getting glasses, the prescription also indicates recommended lens materials.

I recently moved back to Austin, TX, and needed to update my eye prescription from 2022. I was amazed at the service and technology in the office coming from a technology background myself. They have the latest technology including image scanning, so you don't need to do the pupil dilation, which was always a pain. They, the staff, and doctor found some conditions I needed to address. These are mostly genetic and advanced age symptoms. Luckily the outstanding team and Dr. Richard Maybury addressed it, and I will receive the appropriate treatment. As in all my reviews, I am so excited to highlight a business that goes above and beyond. I will continue to have myself and my wife visit Dr. Maybury annually as it is most important in our day and age, and he is an exceptional doctor of optometry. She takes the time to explain everything and address concerns. They use state-of-the-art testing systems that are so futuristic and accurate. I love technology. I seriously have never had an eye exam like this before. The technician (Alejandra) who assisted was professional, kind, and caring just like Dr. Shah. The front end staff are phenomenal. I called and made my appointment with Lori. My glasses broke and newly enrolled in my new insurance plan with no insurance card. Despite that Lori worked with me over the phone to track down my insurance info and explain my benefits. Whew! So relieved! Made my appointment. Appointment day! When I arrived Lori & Dr. Emily were very welcoming. I filled out my paperwork, was promptly taken over for preliminary eye tests, brought to exam room, Dr. Emily came in for exam, she was so warm, and we did the damn thang. New prescription, healthy eyes, no puff of air (AMAZING), and DONE! Painless, easy, comfortable... no white coat syndrome at Austin Eye Studio! It's super cool they offer camera image instead of dialiation, but I opted out because my insurance didn't cover the extra fee. (BONUS: you can take your time shopping at HEB while your eyes get back to normal) Glasses shopping... uhhhh, I was a tough customer. I knew EXACTLY what I wanted and wasn't finding it during my visit. After SO MANY frame vetoes (thank you Lori & Dr. Emily for your patience), we found THE ONE! They weren't exactly what I wanted, but damn close! And after owning them for a few weeks i'm VERY happy with my decision. They're really cute! I TOTALLY forgot to take a pic of my new frames or ask they're exact mfg/style info. I emailed Lori the next day to ask her which frames I bought. Oops! She responded very promptly with all the info I requested. AES is flexible with payment. I was able to put 50% down with remaining 50% due at pick-up. Even though I saved a lot with my insurance it was so helpful to split cost in 2 payments. My insurance didn't cover contact exam, but I can return within 3 months to have that done at an affordable out-of-pocket cost. I have bought LHR and clear and brilliant as well from them. I am afraid to go back for services - not only did the nurse aesthetician burn me, she brushed it off when I said it was a burn. I was given no immediate first aid (cold water to calm the burn. All they had were ice and hydrocortisone which are not appropriate for treating burns). And now making the cancel and refund process difficult.

The staff member who performed the various eye imaging/photos prior to seeing Dr. Shah was very kind and did a great job helping me understand what I needed to do at each station. Payment and gathering my prescription details on the way out was also handled timely and professionally. My eye exam was performed my Dr. Shah, she also fit me for contacts. I found her very friendly and professional. Everything from discussing my vision and medical history to the examination to thoroughly explaining things along the way were all done to a high and friendly standard. I especially appreciated the time she took explaining the various images they took of both my eyes. As for the facility, it's all kept very clean, including equipment. In addition, why isn't this "policy" published on the website nor shared with patients beforehand? I will be taking my business elsewhere and do not recommend this place for breastfeeding, working moms.
