Today, on my way back to Austin, my alternator belt snapped, which caused a lot of problems with my truck and forced me to pull over on the side of the road. I started looking for a nearby repair shop to fix my truck, and I found Bastrop Auto, which is the best in the area in terms of roadside service over the phone. I have been taking my 2 cars here for 8 yrs. Recently, my truck was pulling a code for a cylinder misfire. They has recently replaced this cylinder, so I took it back to them to check it out. Mind you, my truck was performing perfectly when I took it. I was simply wanting to make sure it was suitable to drive my kid in without the risk of stalling. They said it was a coil so I paid to have it replaced (although I would think that would have been replaced with the cylinder?). After I pay and try to leave, my truck wouldn't start. I told the mechanic and said I was frustrated since the truck was working fine when I brought it in, he started yelling at me- literally yelling at me in the parking lot saying that he was sick of people coming in and blaming him for things. He said it was a bad battery and lectured me about my dirty terminals. He jumped the truck by bypassing the battery via the solenoid which fried my stereo system. I was just happy to get out of there. The next day I replace the battery and it still won't start. I talked to the owner who told me to try jumping it again via the solenoid (which seems unprofessional/dangerous) to no avail, then have it towed to them and he would "help me out". They apparently fried my starter and they still had the audacity to charge me for the replacement. I feel taken advantage of and am beyond frustrated. My truck was working perfectly, then suddenly I am out all of this money for a coil, battery, starter, tow and stereo. As a female, I am constantly dealing with these kinds of issues. But I thought this place was different, especially considering that they so prominently display the Christian fish symbol on their signage. The whole situation was so frustrating, expensive and manipulative. read more

Don't stop here for a vehicle inspection, it's very obvious they don't like doing inspections and don't want to do them. The guy even stated "it's almost not even worth doing inspections", how lame is that?! Last three years they've sent me away due to "my machines not working, maybe tomorrow" c'mon man!! If you don't want to perform vehicle inspections you should take down the advertisements that state that you do perform them! read more

*** re-post from a few months ago*** I don't know the people who claim to be happy with this place, or their situations. All I know, is they charged $1000 for a fuel pump. 4 hours of labor on a 1 hour fix. They also somehow broke my backup cam. This place is slow to action and a disappointment. *** new post*** So, I finally was getting around to take my truck back to this place to get my backup cam fixed, or at least schedule an appt to do so. Believe it or not, half way there, truck dies. I coast to side of HWY. Thankfully, my wife was following. Brand new fuel pump is dead. I wondered if it had actually been replaced or just repaired. Another tow, explained (again) that I knew it was the fuel pump. Told them fix my backup cam while they were in there. 7 working days later, get a call. "Yep, it's the fuel pump". No shit. Told them 3 times not to forget to fix my backup cam. 3 working days later, "truck'll be ready before 6pm, but we close, so don't be late". Pull up at 5:40pm. Office door locked. After knocking and waiting, I walk around to shop. Wait some more, knock, "COME IN!!!" I wiggle the handle violently. The door opens, get my keys. Start my truck. Backup camera still doesn't work. If I would have realized these 5 star reviews (fake?) Were so old, I would have found some place else. Go somewhere else. They might not have the same management as they did when these 5 starts were given... or they were fake reviews at start-up. You'll thank me. read more

Bastrop Auto Works are an awesome great family owned business. Our truck broke down when the transmission hose broke pulling our trailer for Boy Scout camp out in Lost Pines. Not only did they fix the hose, they personally helped get us around town since we didn't have a vehicle. They always kept us updated and did the work for a very reasonable price knowing we were out of town and stranded. They didn't take advantage, they simply helped us. I have never been disappointed with the work on my vehicles and none of my referrals have had anything but praise for these folks. I have had allot of promises but they keep dropping the ball. Never follow up what they say and have no respect for a person's time. When they told me they would have my car tags there and I asked them what time to come pick them up to be sure they had them they told me 4:30. I was there at 4:30 and they never had gone to pick them up. Car has dash lights on and leaks fluid and shakes, Very dissatisfied. We take our vehicles to Bastrop Auto Works. We can count on these guys to give us the straight story on what needs fixing and what can wait. They do not take AmEx, which is the main reason I didn't give them 5 stars, although I understand AmEx is expensive for small businesses. Sometimes repairs can take longer than a dealership, but again they are a small business and don't stock every part for every make, so once diagnosed it can take an extra day or so to get the vehicle back. But if you can live with those limitations, they are a really good shop and appreciate their customers. read more
