I've only visited this business twice, but I already look at it as my go-to gun store in Redding. Today cinched it: I had a revolver with a dragging cylinder, and happened to catch one of their gunsmiths at an idle moment. In fifteen minutes, he corrected the problem for a reasonable fee. Look, y'all, I actually like that place across town that doubles as a pawn shop. The guys there are friendly and knowledgeable enough, but sheesh, sometimes I wish I could find an Army cot to nap on while I'm waiting to talk to someone. I recently bought a gun at THAT place, and paid fifteen dollars less than what Bastiani Arms charges. But then, if I'd bought the gun at Bastiani, I'd have about an hour of my life handed back to me. If saving every dollar is important to you (and believe me, I can get behind that with my Scottish ancestry 'n all), go to that other place and wade through the throngs of people as you wait for what passes for customer service. But, if you're willing to pay a few bucks more (or in the case of a brick of .22 ammo, eighty cents more) to deal with a shop that has it together, go see the folks at Bastiani Arms. Well I don't write reviews as a habit. I stopped in Bastiani Arms just to look around. I had ordered a rifle a few days earlier from a local gun store just a mile or so way from Bastiani Arms. If you live in the area you know who I'm talking about! After three visits to the unnamed shop and being treated with condescending, disrespect and rudeness. I was sorry I ordered the rifle. Bastinin Arms owner and employees were very friendly and knowledgeable. I so impressed with Bastini Arms I cancelled the order from the other shop and was assessed a $40.00 restocking fee on the rifle that was not delivered to the shop yet!! I bought the rifle from Bastiani Arms. The $40.00 was a small price to pay to get away from rudeness and being disrespected!! Thank You Baatiani Arms!! read more

My Browning Buck Mark lite 5.5" has a fiber optic front sight. The rod came back from browning broken, not expensive, not a big deal. I began searching for the size of the rod because I planned on buying replacements and installing it myself or paying for installation. I spoke with Browning, they wanted me to return the gun and charge me for the fix. I spoke to HiViz (maker of sight) and they said they had to return my call later. I even went to the store I bought the gun from, they said it would cost me about $25 and that I'd have to come back another day. I then stopped by Bastiani Arms and within a minute or two, the owner himself took my buck mark, asked me what color I wanted, and had a new rod in it in no time. Then he showed me this really cool looking 2 color rod and offered to put that in it. So once again, he worked on it, took out the green rod and threw in a color combo I hadn't ever seen before. He didn't want a dime for the part or the labor! I will be spending money at this store soon because I must pay them back. After speaking with the owner, it is clear to me that this store cares more about your freedom than they do their own pocket books. Freedom to own and operate constitutionally backed firearms. He even began working on a maglock that could be sold at a fraction of the price that most are sold at. Unfortunately, AR-MAGLOCK decided to completely railroad the whole plan and bullied this locally owned small store. AR-Maglock forced Bastiani to come up with h undreds of thousands of dollars to even begin the process of continuing their much needed work. The owner of Bastiani could not discuss these matters, however there is enough info online to read the full story. Folks, its time we stand up against places like AR-MAGLOCK. I encourage you to email them and let them know that they are not only stealing from a small business, they are stealing your freedom to own and use sporting rifles legally. The whole staff at Bastiani Arms has always been over the top helpful. The knowledge of firearms, laws, rules and regulations are absolutely second to none. The over the top willingness to help is a service that is very pleasing, especially in today's fast-paced and it's all about me world. The expertise by big Mike in the gunsmith department is the absolute best I have ever seen, he has done quite a bit of work for me on various firearms over the years and never disappointed. We have purchased several firearms from Bastiani Arms. The staff has always been helpful in answering our questions, doing research if necessary to give us accurate information. When asked, they have given us their qualified opinions, saving us time, money and frustration. The pricing has always been more than fair. But what really sets them apart is their gunsmith services. We engage in 3 position rifle shooting. I am very tall. My wife is "average" in height. Stock rifles don't fit us well enough to do 3 position shooting well. John and Mike have helped us customize our rifles to truly fit us. . With that correct fit, our shooting has really improved. Recently they helped us tune a new purchase for our use. John told us about some options. He helped us really understand the options and the pros/cons of each. Then he tuned our new gun right then on the spot. He test fired it in his shop. Then we took it out to the range. WOW! The gun is exactly what we were hoping for. Summary: Friendly, helpful, honest, experienced, talented, fair. There is only one downfall that we can think of. They are too easy and fun to do business with. So maybe we spend more than we should here. read more

I just bought my second handgun gun from them a few days ago. They were really friendly when I walked in everyone greeted me, when I walked up to the counter I was immediately asked if I needed help. I told them what I was interested, and with out hesitation I was shown many different models, without any pressure on a certain brand or style. If I'm looking to buy another gun this will be my first choice, would rather spend money at a small business than at a corporate mega stores, or a pawn shop that sells stolen property. read more

Good selection, friendly enough staff...though even after I described the type of guns I needed two holsters for, the sales guy sold me ones that my guns didn't fit in at all. I was very specific so I feel he might not have been knowledgeable enough to be selling the products he was. Not a big deal in itself that I ended up with the wrong things, I'll go exchange them, and maybe he was just off his game or it was a fluke day. And overall I liked the store, the selection and the employees. After 20 minutes listening to them telling stories back and forth we left and went to the Great Outdoors and bought it. 4 workers but no one even acknowledged we were there. I've never bought a firearm from this business, so I can't comment much on that. However, I have bought ammo and that's what I'll be commenting on. First of all, their ammo is pricy. Absolutely. 100% true. The price is a bit jacked up over what I want to pay, and I had a bit of sticker shock the first time I purchased ammo there. Now, understand this, part of that is because it's a small business and not a big box retailer. You will always pay more at a specialty shop. You pay more, but receive better service. These people know what they're doing. The second part of that is, you guys know what it's like right now. You can pay, more or less, what you've always paid for ammo at Sportsman's Warehouse or Walmart....if you arrive at 6 am, get in line, wait for the shop to open, and wait hours more for them to unload the delivery to get your ammo. And then they might not even receive in their shipment, what you want. They're sold out two hours after they get the shipment. I don't know about you guys, but I have a job. I can't do that. Furthermore, I don't want to do that. So I take myself over to Bastiani any day of the week, any hour they're open and they've got what I need (except 22lr, but no one has that). That's worth something to me. Plus, their staff is very friendly and doesn't talk down to me. I appreciate this. read more

I don't live in the area, but was helping my stepfather buy a rifle and he lives up in the Redding area. The staff is absolutely exceptional. Very knowledgeable, seem to like their jobs and honestly friendly (as opposed to the "I'm smiling because my boss says to smile but I still hate you" gun store employees that are so common now days). Unfortunately they didn't have what we were looking for (though found a cool old C&R Mauser I may still buy for myself). Selection isn't the greatest for guns, but they said they're ready and willing to order anything. Huge ammo inventory which is always good. Nice, open clean store as well. We bought some minor things just to give them a little business. I hope to do much more in the future. This is the kind of place I like to give my money to since they try so hard to run a good business. read more

After four weeks and multiple visits checking on the status, I picked up the gun....I was told by the gunsmith that he was much to busy to check on the part. Bastiani has it's goods and its bads. The service is friendly, fairly knowledgeable, and they have classes there for CCW, advanced handgun, hunters safety, etc. through Nor Cal Firearms Instruction (Which in my opinion is a great place to take gun classes). But, like others have said here, if you try to have work done here on one of your guns don't hold you're breath. I Had a gun there that they were supposed to order new sites for and install, well after asking about the sites every few days while they had my gun there they never ordered them, the excuse I got every time was "We were slammed today, I didn't get a chance to order your sites," well, two weeks later they still hadn't ordered the sites so I just gave up on them and picked up my gun. A couple friends of mine had very similar experiences with them and they ended up taking their guns to Olde West to have Larry work on them. I still buy ammo and accessories here occasionally, but never again will I try to have any gun work done there. read more

Rick, ex-customer What a nightmare, came in to buy a 22 rifle paid all the charges to buy the gun. They produced a gun that was inoperable and not sellable. I didn't know until I waited for the background check and took possession of the rifle. Took it home to clean and shoot, when I found the magazine tube was damaged. Returned the gun immediately and was told I bought the gun I would have to wait until the manufacturer fixed the problem. This store has no communication with customers, they never returned any of my request/calls for information about taking possession of the rifle. After two weeks I called again for a status on delivery. They said it took three weeks to get the gun, but weeks later I called again now it is three months but still no definite date. Called to ask my options no response, went in to talk to John the owner, he hovered over me and first word out of my mouth he said my only option is to wait. With no date that I would take possession, I asked for my money back to go buy a rifle. They took $100.00 from the $250.00 to buy the rifle, never got a rifle. Please be carful I was never told or signed anything that told me this would be my only option if they couldn't sell me a rifle in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I will never do business with Bostiani Arms again. I left my rifle there over 2 1/2 months ago to have a muzzle brake made for it and they never even touched it. After going back several times over the last 2 1/2 months and getting excuse after excuse I couldn't stand it anymore and went and picked it up. The gunsmith who should have been working on my rifle was once again talking to "potential" customers about purchasing a hand gun instead of finishing the work he was supposed to be performing on my rifle. All the while there were at least 3 other employees standing around staring at each other who could have just as easily been talking to the potential buyers while the gunsmith could have been doing his job. The gunsmith even had the audacity to stand there as I picked up my rifle and tell me how "slammed" he'd been and how he couldn't get to my rifle, the same line he gave me the 3 times before I was in as he was doing the same thing, talking instead of working. I have spent well over $1000 at Bostiani on other firearms and accessories, this might not seem like alot to some people, but it is my hard earned money and I chose to spend it there, not like alot of the many "window shoppers" they get on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. I tried to be supportive of a new local business instead of shipping my rifle out to be done elsewhere, but it obviously didn't matter to them. I too run a business in Redding and can guarantee if I treated my customers this poorly, I would soon be closing my doors. With many other options in Redding to do business with in this particular category (Old West, Great Outdoors, Jones Fort to name a few) Bostiani might want to consider letting the gunsmith work on the guns, and letting the sales people sell them. read more

After a repair debachle at Jones Fort, brought my Marlin lever gun to Bastiani Arms. Was met at the counter by a gunsmith who immediately started working on my gun right there at the customer counter! While I waited, he (they really--he got another on-sight gunsmith involved also) replaced the screw and put on a new front sight that Jones Fort had damaged. When he was done (a matter of a few minutes--not several days) he handed it back and said, "Welcome to Bastiani Arms. No charge." I was stunned! He would not let me pay for the parts or the service. So I bought some stuff. Great crowd. Customer friendly. Service oriented. A friend for life. read more

Have had work done there that was faulty, and it made them upset that I brought it back in multiple times till they got it right. I noticed their gun smith(s) like to stand out in the main area and gab (a LOT) but when I need a gun modified for a shoot or repair or upgraded it takes them a LONG time to get the job done.I will no longer buy guns or get them worked on there. I on rare occasion pick up small items I need but that's it. They need a course in customer satisfaction there. Every time a customer leaves happy they tell 8-9 people. But a dissatisfied customer will tell it to 20 people. The are generally friendly but don't leave your gun if you need it soon! read more
