I brought my son to look at some hunting equipment since his birthday is Sunday. He has autism (this is important) so he's very sensitive. A woman with two little boys and her husband came in. Husband was looking to buy hunting equipment and the mom browsed with the children. Some jerk employee started harassing her, telling her she was "taking too long". She said she was waiting for her husband and this jerk gave her a hard time. In front of her kids. Apparently, young women with small children are not welcome to browse this store. My son was having difficulty choosing (autism thing) but he took this very personal. We were there MUCH longer than this young lady. My son will never allow anything from Bass Pro to be used at home again. So after driving over an hour for a little birthday surprise, I spent the whole trip home explaining about profiling, politeness, and trying to convince my son that you can't boycott a whole chain over one jerk. So I go to this place quite often to buy my bait and fishing tackle. It's the only real store in the Syracuse area that I can go to get a good selection on gear. But recently I've been disappointed. No matter what time of year I go into the store to buy my bait and other products the rack is always empty. I'm told a bunch of people just came in and bought it all. Like I haven't heard that line before.Lately I've had a different issue, it seems as though vendors push their products through bass pro. It was weird for me to talk with the fishing people and learn that the only real they recommended was diawa. Now don't get me wrong they make really good casting reel's but I told him I was into spinning. They didn't even ask me what I was using it for. It was obvious that I was buying a spinning reel not a bait caster. Well long story short three days later on the lake, two birds nests, and poor casting, left me wondering why did I say change from Shimano. So I pulled out my old rod and reel that I was upgrading and 25 bass later knew why Shimano makes the best spinner. Needless to say I went back to return the equipment within the 30 day return policy and didn't have my receipt. They were able to reproduce it from my credit card and the experience was absolutely, problem free. So I gladly bought those traffic CI 4+ and my favorite Rod and left a happy customer. I'm giving them a three because I don't think any store should be persuaded by vendors and believe that a good fishing employee would ask several questions before recommending a real and rod. However they do have a problem with the inventory. read more

After getting home with a new firearm, I noticed a defect in the barrel where blueing had not been uniformly applied. I called the store, and because they had just received an identical model in stock, they agreed to swap barrels. When I came back, the counter manager DJ Rose took care of the swap personally and made sure everything was taken care of to make it right. This was my first experience with Bass Pro, and based on the outstanding customer service received, this store has not only earned my business, but my loyalty as well. read more

Inside, you'll find this store specializes in "hunting, fishing, outdoor recreation merchandise." From the outside, the store looks like a lodge on steroids. With a huge fish on the roof. Mmm tasty! I always feel out of my element the second I walk in. "Oh look, a random Asian girl. What's she doing here? She must be lost. She must think we sell fish to EAT." (B/c the gigantic fish on the roof is NOT misleading at all.) Anyways, they have these old people who are door greeters (really cute). Make sure you walk through the random free-standing turnstile near the entrance. I actually walked past it at first (huge space on either side of the thing!) saw the greeters look at me with disdain, backtracked, then walked through the turnstile. Like a weirdo. Massive selection of hunting, fishing, outdoor gear all under one roof. You could easily get lost here for hours. Both intentionally and unintentionally. It was fun. read more

This is a nice diversion from the routine. It's not Nordstrom's, it's an outdoor sporting goods store. There is no baseball, football or other ball oriented sports material to be found. Bass Pro Shop is all about the outdoor sports as in fishing, camping, hiking, hunting, boating etc... So what do I do with a a .338 Lapua rifle, foul weather gear, a low draft fishing boat , cross bow and an Arctic Cat quad? Nothing. I just buy the comfortable casual clothes and shoes which are nicely priced. The rest of the offerings are interesting to look at and I am sure that for the outdoors-man and woman, there is an opportunity to do some serious shopping. I do not hunt but, I admire those who have the skills to conduct an ethical hunt and recognize how food gets to my plate. So, this is one place with lots of the toys for one to enjoy the sport of the hunt and fishing, too. I rather like the atmosphere and the decorations of stuffed animals galore. Their merchandise in all departments is available in an abundant array of choices. Displays are neat, clean, well organized and nicely presented. It makes shopping easier for the consumer as well as pleasurable. Customer service on the floor is available and unobtrusive. Sales people don't retreat and hide from the customer nor do they stalk their prey. I have found everyone from the greeter at the entrance through to the cashiers to be exceptionally pleasant, knowledgeable and very willing to help a customer by going the extra mile. Well, the fact that I drove over two hours to take a gander at this sporting goods store should speak volumes about my affinity for good sporting goods stores. And even measured against that standard, Bass Pro did not let me down. My biggest complaint would have to be the location of this Bass Pro -it being two hours away, and not in a more convenient location for me, like my back yard- but there's nothing that can be done about that. Another minor complaint would be that some of the prices were a tad higher than some smaller, more ubiquitous sporting goods stores, such as Dick's. However, in BP's defense, Dick's might have some cheaper prices, it can't compete with BP's quantity of selection and level of service. Now, getting to the good of BP, I spent over an hour and a half touching/grouping/fondling every rod, worm, jig, tube, grub, spinner, reel, bobber, toad, sinker, fluke, walleye angler, lady finger, fuzz buttle, snicker bomb, church burner, finger blaster, gut buster, zippity do da, crap flapper, whistlin' bunghole, spleen splitter, whisker biscuit, honkey lighter, hoosker doo, hoosker don't, cherry bomb, nipsy daiser (with & without the scooter stick), whistlin' kitty chaser and crankbait I could get my hands on in the fishing department... ...And that was JUST the fishing department! We still had archery, firearms, hunting apparel, regular apparel, decoys, bait/traps, finger foods and footwear. Oh yeah, and they have a whole isle of turkey calls set up to play with, so we needed to do that too. All in all, the overall selection is fantastic. If you could imagine a fishing lure, or a article of clothing that could be made camouflage, you'll likely find it at Bass Pro. In addition to the tremendous amount of goodies here there is also no limit to the amount of helpful associates looking to see you find that cute little mouse fishing lure or camoflauged tu-tu set in pink and Real Tree for a baby. I came into the store to do my shopping while my girlfriend was working there and the store wasnt busy at all so I went up to her and asked her a question and we had a short conversation and during it one of the managers came up to her and I and said, "You have to leave she is working" in a rude tone and not really all too polite.. and to remind you I was just a customer! Apparently he doesn't realize some of the first things working in customer service!!! He could have said it in a much nicer way and tone.. So instead of doing my shopping and buying what I was going to do I put the things down and left the store, I have never been talked to rudely by any management of any place ever, management should never talk to a customer rudely! I worked retail for almost 4 years at a gas station and no matter how unruly the customer was I never was rude to them the customers are what keep your place afloat and 1 unhappy customer could ruin the buisness read more

I have been to many bass pro's. This happens to be the smallest one I have been to. Its a great place to get the best out door sporting gear. I particularly like their tee shirts. I don't much care for fishing but my husband swears by this store absolutely loves it got him some gifts cards plus we spent 70 some odd out of pocket on top of 100 on the gift cards. The cashier was very sweet told us about a rewards plan that gives us and that maybe we could link our receipt of the stuff we just purchased to link. We get to custom service and are greeted by a nice women who took our information and then here comes Brenda with her 2 cents very rude very stiff and very dry with her smarts ass answers to simple question so I definitely will be filing a complaint with management and or corporate when your busses is customers service no matter who the customer is a great attitude goes a long way and for remarks as to my gift card I simply asked why the rest of what we spent was not added towards points she said because it was gift cards "whoever bought them gets the point I informed her I bought them and she said o well I bet you will remember next time you buy them " and like I said no because I don't MUCH CARE FOR THE STORE and after this exchange EVEN LESS! read more

Very dissatisfied with the manager, Patrick, at this location. We were simply following instructions by the DEC to have a lifetime hunting license printed in store and the manager treated us horribly. Patrick, the manager, refused to discuss anything with us. He would not even look us in the eye as if he was indignant to our situation. We placed a call to the DEC while he was in our presence, and he blatantly refused to even acknowledge that we had a DEC rep on the phone to clear this up. Patrick was very condescending, pretentious and dismissive as well as acting repugnant, in that moment we felt unwelcome, disdain, and dejected as if what we were trying to resolve was an outright waste of his time.  During our interaction, Patrick raised his voice at us and talked over us as if he could care less about our concerns, eventually after an uncomfortable back and forth, Patrick did authorize our license print. We couldn't even continue shopping because we were so upset. read more

Better late than never. I was staying at Lake Cayuga last June and wanted to catch some Lake Trout. I wish I knew the name of the young man who helped me but his advice was right on from the depth the fish would be in (55 feet) to the correct lure to use (salty super fluke on a heavy swim bait head) . I've been to this store several times. There are one or two sales people who know their department, the one guy in shoes is excellent and there was once a man in fishing who really could assistant the new to fishing person. However try to checkout, it is always a hassle. I've walked out without buying the merchandise more times than purchasing the merchandise. There seems to be plenty of people walking around the store, but nobody to ring people out, and then the registers "break down". Today a "manager" stood and watched while the line reached the back of the store until he opened up another register, but the only other register was already having issues. Three women tried in vain to get the register working before redirecting everyone to another line. This is not the first time I've seen this happen. Don't go during a big sale.
