With the epic failure of attempting to rent kayak paddles at Puddle Dockers, we hit EMS instead. ¡IMPORTANT! If you read nothing else, read this. If you're looking to rent a kayak or paddles, look no further. ¡IMPORTANT! What would have cost us $20 a day (returned by the end of that same day) to rent from Puddle Dockers ended up costing us only $5 per paddle per day from EMS... returned by close of business the -following- day. You do the math. Plus, the store itself is huge, it sells tons of other outdoorsy gear, it's climate controlled, carpeted, and has funny, helpful (not to mention super hunky) staff. Admittedly, our sales associate had to figure out just exactly how he was supposed to check out paddles to us, but got it all sorted out with a little free humor and wit thrown in, gratis. Basically, it's everything that Puddle Dockers wasn't. Seriously. Catch my drift? [No pun intended on that last bit.]

A lot of the clothes were also in bags, and I'm not sure how people would know what they're looking at without fully unwrapping them which seemed impossible in the space. His ridicule of my 16 year old escalated and as we decided to leave and not give any $$$ to this man (who started out cranky but legit is mentally unwell and possibly dangerous), he started approaching us to the point that I put myself between him and my daughter. We felt threatened and unsafe and needless to say wouldn't return if our lives depended on it. How this biz is still open is an utter shock. Clearly Ithaca isn't the community I thought it was to allow this place to stick around.

I thought why not go to the only martial arts store around here and see if I can find a wing chun outfit. Very similar to the traditional CNY clothing, but without the shining material and patterns. Going into the store right away you feel at home and  see lots of tools and outfits. If you are into martial arts of any kind, this place would amaze you. The manager Alieen is amazing and helped me throughout the process of picking an outfit. She is so friendly and experienced. Just one look at me and she knew what size I'd be. She was very accurate if I may add. My Wing Chun suit fit perfectly with room to move around and stretch. Im currently 6ft4 and over 300lbs, so im glad they had so much material laying around haha.This place has a lot of history. Aileen was actually the person who helped me find my first gi (karate uniform) over 8 years ago. It was a thrilling experience now, and then. There are so many choices to choose from and if it's not available they always do their best effort to get you what you need. I will always love visiting Continental sporting goods & martial arts supplies. I recommend this place to everyone.

Now they are in a house on Monroe Ave a little bit closer to the city. They have a great selection of martial arts equipment, gloves, uniforms and trinkets. The owners are pretty knowledgeable and they can find stuff that might not be on the shelves. (I think the owner maybe a yellow belt in Tang So Do or something). Prices are good too - maybe a little bit more than the internet - but you don't have to wait or pay for shipping. Well worth the trip every time I head into the ROC. Honestly, should give them a 4.5 star until they get in more Manny Pacquiao and Bruce Lee shirts.
