I love the vegetarian sandwich and the ridiculously tempting dessert case. Today I had the citrus salad and pizza. The pizza is 12 inches (except Sicilian which is sold by the slice) and two slices were just right with the salad. Unfortunately the salad is just candy with greens. It has candied slivered almonds in it (I got mine on the side) and a whole lot of sweet sweet dressing. I asked for dressing on the side too, but think they forgot...they were busy. I ended up draining the bowl and dabbing my romaine on the overly soft and almost gummy roll that came with the salad. The pizza made up for it though. It had a nice thin crust with an outer edge that had a hollow sound when I tapped it with my fork (in most places) and was both crunch and chewy. Very nice pizza crust. read more

I've eaten lunch here, several times, with friends. Up until my most recent visit, the food was exceptional. The most recent visit, I ordered a panini and instead of the panini hard roll, I was given what looked like white bread. The vegetables were also undercooked. Every other visit has been terrific. I hope this was just a one off, bad day. The service is solid. It sometimes is so crowded you have to watch like a hawk, for a table to open. The dessert selection is extensive. The food was just ok. My sandwich and my spouses sandwich were both cold even though Ee ordered hot sandwiches and the potatoes were cold and dry. The dessert was good. I have driven past this restaurant many times since they first opened, never paying them a visit. It has been my loss. It came down to a free lunch from a friend and not caring where they take me. I ended up at Basilico. I tried the chicken salad sandwich and it was perfect. It is served on a croissant and choice of a side. I've dined here twice and wasn't that thrilled either time. The 1st visit was with a group of coworkers. My cobb salad was ok but the experience hit a snag because they forgot one of our orders. The rest of us didn't want to be rude and start eating without the meal-less coworker so we waited and waited. We chose to sit outside that day and the longer we waited, the hotter it got. Our food just sat forever in the sun! I prayed I didn't get sick from the warm ranch dressing. My 2nd visit was with my mom. I wanted to treat her out to a new spot in F'burg. We ordered the Lobster Bisque and Chicken Parmesan. When they brought our soup, it was wrong. They bought us Clam chowder so be had to send that back. When our Lobster Bisque arrived, it tasted ok but was bland with no traces of lobster. We weren't expecting lumps of lobster but come on. They could have added some crab flakes or something. Anyway, on to the worst part of the meal. The Chicken Parmesan was VERY salty and lacked any Italian flavor. No garlic, no herbs, no nothing. The chicken patties were chewy and a bit tough. They may have been fried the day before then microwaved. The food wasn't good at all. The desserts looked delicious but after that meal, I was ready to go. Very excited are this place. I've been wanting to try it ever since I saw it's "Now Open" ad in the Freelance Star. Finally got there yesterday, and was very pleased with the atmosphere and more importantly the food. I tried the turkey cranberry panini and the sfogliatelle. It was so nice to eat a turkey panini that was so briny. I am not a fan of normal turkey deli meat, and Basilico's turkey was anything but. The combination of the sweet and tart cranberry relish with the peppery arugula was so complimenting to the other savory and toast elements of the panini. The only thing that made this sandwich even better was the perfectly cheesy mac n' cheese I ordered along side it. Totally mouth watering in every sense. The sfogliatelle was a great sweet finish (and start) to the lunch. I loved the baked lemon custard on the inside. Did I detect amaretto? Great layers of flavor. If you're looking for a fresh meal that will be miles away from one dimensional, try Basilico. read more

My extended family planned a pumpkin patch day at Belvedere for my dad's birthday. Since Belvedere didn't allow outside food, we took to Yelp to find a lunch spot. Basilico has sooooo many awesome reviews, was budget friendly and close in proximity I thought yup! Cant go wrong. The staff is RUDE! I will say it again. RUDE. RUDE. There were 10 of us coming from different directions. I called ahead to see about possibly setting aside a table in 20 minutes. No warm greeting, no we will try the best we can. Instead "We are really busy, if you get here at the right time, you can find a table- otherwise you are going to have to wait" Ok, get it. Place must be great. No tables, but outside was avail. No help to put tables together. No warm greeting. Damn food must be that good. Food was average. Between all of us we had the corned beef, margherita pizza, calzone, paninis, fettucine alfredo and caesar salad. The food was okay. I don't actually understand the high reviews of this place. And again, even placing our order, the staff was RUDE. Like I can't be bothered with the fact that you may need a small plate for your child since you are sharing and we are so busy RUDE. No, it is way too damn hard for us to put different toppings on each half of your pizza unless you want to spend 5 bucks more in order to do so. We don't give a crap that you are a $200 check because we have plenty of other people coming through the door. RUDE. read more

How have I not written a review for this? I LOVE this place. I try very hard not to give out 5-star reviews, but Basilico earns it. When I went down to Fredericksburg for the Marine Corps Historic Half Marathon, I ate dinner here the night before. I liked it so much I went back there to eat again after the race before I drove home. Tonight on our way home from Spring Break down in South Carolina, I made my family wait an hour after they wanted dinner for us to get to Fredericksburg so we could go to Basilico. Salads are good but it's a salad people. No my fix is their cake. I visit here to get a piece to go. I have a serious weakness for the lemon berry mascarpone cake. It's incredible. They provide a large slice for 4.95 and it's not heavy sickening sweet cake but fresh berries in a lemon cake. It's a layer of cake, mascarpone, and then cake. Pure heaven! I have tried the hoho cake and it's good if you like chocolate. Only down side, don't go near closing because they lock their doors early- five to ten minutes before closing. I lucked out because I was ordering dessert and permitted entrance inside but another man was denied entrance and complained to the man standing guard at the door. eek. I don't like to see that happening ever with my customer service based background. I have read reviews of others complaining about the service but I haven't experienced that personally, just witnessed as noted.
