What can't I say about Basilico other than it's hand down the best deli in the Burg! Absolute go to for something quick and easy, but with high quality ingredients. I love supporting local businesses and this is one of those places you go to eat at least once a week. I've been to both the Cowan and Harrison locations and both are superb. Customer service is always great and food is top notch. We love the pizza especially the bbq chicken pizza and the buffalo chicken pizza. I personally love the avocado chipotle chicken sandwich. Everything I've tried here is delicious. We've also have ordered a cake for my son's birthday. They have fresh gelato and a whole bunch of yummy desserts to pick from. The calzones are SO GOOD you'll probably eat the whole thing, even tho it's bigger than your head. The dough is just so amazing, and you can build your own! THe food is better than most places. I like there pasta salad. It could be a lot better though if they used better mayo. The Pizza is better than most of fredericksburg/stafford (that is not saying a lot). I give them a 3 because they messed up on the deserts. They have so many lovely looking deserts, but they mess up 9 out of ten of these. 1) the cannoli's they have are either huge or small (they never heard of just right) - Then they plaster these in chocolate chips because everyone loves that right? 2) The filling they use in everything is either unflavored whipped cream or lemon-flavored cream. Try eating an eclair with lemon cream (it's just gross). My favorite dessert (The Napoleon) They ruined this too. Flat tasting whipped cream and dry pastry. So Sad. But the heese cake and apple fritters are mostly fine. read more

On the way back from Mary Washington, I always wanted to try this restaurant but never did. It was highly recommended by one of my co-workers so finally I tried last weekend. I'm glad I tried!!! I love this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. Not just food, they also sell great variaties of sweets and gelato. I wish I were living around that area - but then I would go there every day and it's not going to be a good idea (I would be huge). But, yes I will go there again!!! I wanted Italian and this place was ranked high on Yelp. I walked in and the staff just kinda looked at me. I stared at the menu for a solid 10 minutes before someone acknowledged my presence and asked what I wanted to order. At their recommendation, I ordered some kind of chicken penne pasta that was highly recommended.....it was not good. I got it for take away, but it was still piping hot when I got back to my hotel. The sauce was decent but the chicken tasted dry and had no flavor. I understand that this is probably catered to the nearby university but even college students deserve better than this. read more

Came here as a lunch-over on our trip south. Two out of three of us was very pleased with our meal. We chose Basilico due to your Yelp reviews, and they were pretty spot on. Thanks!!! The place has a "restaurant" side where you order at the register and then sit down at a table or booth where the waitstaff will deliver your order to you. The other half of the facility is an Italian pastry/bakery and gelato station. Although all the pastries looked really good, we did not spend the money for the extra calories. My She-Crab soup could have had more crab, but it was one of the best tasting and creamiest soups I've had in a long time. Very enjoyable. I also had a lunch special fried chicken wrap which had lettuce, raw onion, cheddar cheese, bacon, and a dressing. This was also very tasty but skimped on the size of the chicken. Probably less than four ounces. The choice side of Mac and Cheese was good, but too creamy for me and not really a hit. It stayed mostly in the bowl. Wife had a chicken pesto panini which made her say that we'd come back to the restaurant if we were in the area again. She also really liked her side of potato salad with chunks of peppers and other stuff with the potatoes. Kid ordered what looked like it would be a great sandwich of roast pork based on the picture above the register. But, unfortunately, although piled high with roast pork, he felt it was very dry and unseasoned. It definitely needed bbq sauce which may have been on the condiment table, but we did not notice it until after he finished. He also wasn't happy with his bag of kettle chips...just not a fan. Okay so first, I'll have to say I do not enjoy leaving these type of reviews... On a positive note, the people working here were very kind. Now for the gluten-free arugula prosciutto "pizza". This was one of the most unenjoyable things I have ever eaten. I was told it's a "white" pizza...I've been to many pizza places and when someone says this, they usually means there is some sort of white sauce that is between the crust and the cheese. This was not true for this dish, it was absolutely dry and the flavor profile from the arugula amplifies this factor. Then there is the bottom of the crust, it was caked with dry flower. Then there is the crust was so arid and dry but yet spongy. This whole experience was like chewing a thin dry sponge caked in flower with arugula that doesn't help. The prosciutto was the only thing that had flavor. I even asked for a side of marinara in an attempt to drown out the misery of this "pizza" but that marinara couldn't even help. In all fairness they offered to remake or give me something else, but at this point I was so absolutely disappointed with the food quality I was not willing to try anything else here. On top of all this, it cost $28 for this. Expensive lesson learned for food. I have no idea if anything else here is even worth the caloric intake or not but it's a hard pass for me. As a business owner you should know if something is worth charging that much money for or if it is this terrible, don't even offer it to people. read more

Ordered this food on DoorDash, delivery went fine, wow really enjoyed this Italian sub, and they even send free bread with your order. Also ordered the lobster bisque as a side soup, for the price it was fantastic. Their fries were mediocre and soggy at least with delivery, won't get those again but hey the tomato basil soup was solid. Looking forward to eating in their restaurant to see what the service, freshness, and ambiance are like. Their citrus salad has a really delicious vinaigrette, not too acidic, not too sweet. Their desserts are delicious. They have a vast array of choices. Cakes, cannoli, gelato, and my favorite the crème brûlée. It is absolutely sublime. I have not eaten in the restaurant because I am disabled and cannot travel. I can pre-order and my husband will pick it up or I can have it delivered by one of the gig delivery services. Stopped in during a road trip down 95. Great menu, clean, nice service. Food was good though not as good as I had expected. Pizza and salads and mac'n'cheese were great. We went to the motorcycle dealership and stopped by here afterwards. Got recommended by a friend and was excited to try it. I got the italian sub - it was very mediocre (maybe below mediocre). It was dry and very bland. I asked for mayo and other seasonings so I could fix it up and help the dryness. It didn't do much. The pasta salad was also pretty bland as well :( Over all pretty disappointing. But the partner got the buffalo chicken pizza. It did not look appetizing at all and was not expecting it to taste good but it was amazing! The crust was nice and soft. The sauce was delish and not overpowering. Most buffalo chicken pizza I get, they just drizzle/pour on buffalo sauce on top and it's way too strong. This sauce was very good and probably the best buffalo chicken pizza I've had (usually not a fan of it anyways). The chicken pieces were also very good despite the look of them. Tried this place out again for dinner but ate at the restaurant this time. I ordered the grilled eggplant panini with a side of pasta salad. Wasn't really impressed with either of them. The panini was SO dry. It needed some sort of marinara sauce to give it more flavor. It did have the basil pesto mayo but i felt like they didn't use a generous amount and it was fairly bland. The panini comes on sour dough bread but I switched it to cibata which I felt was a good call. They do have a good deal of getting half a panini and a soup for just $8.99! I did not like the pasta salad at all. It was SO sour. It had a ton of olives and I wasn't aware there would be olives in it... needless to say I'm not a fan of olives. Side note: if you like calzones this place serves calzones that are HUGE. You could definitely make 2 meals out of it. The best part about this restaurant is the cute little bakery that's attached to it! They have a ton of gelato options and an endless amount of different pastries! They also take orders for cakes. I got a small cup of stracciatella and coffee gelato. The coffee flavor was delicious but I've had better stracciatella elsewhere. My friend got the tiramisu which I thought could have been more moist. I did try a sample of the tiramisu gelato which was so good and I definitely recommend trying that! read more
