We're new to the area and decided to check this place out based on reviews and the fact that I LOVE good Italian food - which is not easy to find, especially living in the sticks! So - first of all, nearly everything has a gluten free option and they have some vegetarian items which I thought was great. It's casual, loud, and the portions are large - totally Italian on all counts there. Lol. I had a portobello stuffed ravioli with a tomato cream sauce and it was YUMMY! In fact, it was a little richer than I'm accustomed to getting anywhere in VA, so I was really shocked and pleased. The side salad was fresh and the amazing dense sweet DELICIOUS roll that came with it was fresh as well. In fact EVERYTHING is fresh. So - improvements? A tad. My husband's Philly cheesesteak Stromboli had great flavor but the onions in it were still raw and the cheese was barely melted. Sautéing the onions ahead of time would have made his dish perfect. ;) Also - I think maybe when people are ordering drinks it'd be nice to have a tab, but really - that's just a small suggestion. We've been going to Basilico for years now and have really liked anything we've ever ordered from there. Our favorites are the pizza (which has a very good crust), the paninis, the wraps, and any of the great desserts they have. They have excellent gelato, cannolis, and probably the best cheesecake in town. read more

Read the reviews, got really excited about the good, read the negative one and almost didn't come but I'm so glad we did. I had a fresh Greek salad which was yummy that came with bread. Husband had the same salad and a black bean soup, which he really liked. my kids shared a pepperoni bacon pizza, which is the only reason I didn't give it five stars. It looked amazing but there is something about pizza outside of NY. The sauce always tastes a little sweet and just isn't right. My daughter also had a lobster bisque soup which I tasted, a couple of times, and it was amazing! Would I recommend this place? Yes!! If i lived in the area i would def go there frequently. Now I've visited this location on two occasions and the results are the same. Not enough help in the restaurant, especially during peak hours. I watched food sitting and sitting and sitting (hot fries)waiting for table runner. The synergy is not like the location down off Harrison. The faces are not as friendly either. Let me explain: I ordered the turkey hero club with a side of pasta salad, a chicken noodle soup cup, and our group collectively shared a build-your-own pizza (we got pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, and onion). The club was good but was average in my opinion. The soup was also average--good but nothing that will light up your taste buds. The pizza was that of the same, it was good but wouldn't recommend it for a main course. I'm glad we got it on the side. Now here's the good stuff. My boyfriend made the right choice and ordered the pastrami sandwich. He let me have a few bites and WOW was it clear I ordered the wrong thing. The pastrami sandwich was tender, juicy, and flavorful. I'll be ordering it when we come back. AND THE DESSERTS. Okay, so they have a separate desserts counter which I'm sure you've seen if you dived deep into the pictures on here like I did. I got a cannoli which was really good and had chocolate chips on the ends. I also got a small peanut butter gelato. It was so smooth and creamy and exactly what I needed to top of my meal. Basilico was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! The menu is huge so be prepared to make some hard choices. We had the French Dip and a Calzone. The roast beef tasted like it was freshly roasted and sliced that day and the Calzone was packed full of ham, mozzarella and ricotta cheese, absolutely delightful. The desserts are in a category all their own. I considered ordering three just to sample. That would be my only suggestion to the owner, create a dessert sample plate with 4-5 different desserts! This is my favorite go to spot for lunch when I was working in an Obgyn office. Definitely, recommend the lobster bisque soup absolutely delicious and amazing. I've been eating here for YEARS. I was deployed twice and stationed on the west coast and every time I came home for leave I made a trip to Basilico! I always get the same thing, panzarotti calzone. I'm sure they make plenty of other delicious stuff but nowhere else around here does a calzone as nice. I opt for baked, not fried. It always has plenty of goodies inside: ham, pepperoni, mozzarella, ricotta--really, just classic. I tend to call ahead for pickup, they take 20 minutes to make, very consistent. It comes with a dish of marinara sauce for dipping. It's my favorite "I don't want to cook" comfort food. Once in a while when the place is hopping the bottom is a little burnt, but for the countless orders they've filled for me they have my deepest gratitude. It's almost enough for two, but I'm a pig so I eat the whole thing by myself at once. Requires a lot of water, I assume it's so super delicious because of salt. I tried their cannoli off and on over the years, the shells are like rocks. I've tried several of the pretty little cakes but they're dry, grainy. The desserts are really awesome to look at, but I've given up eating them. They're nice to visit and admire. I'm lactose intolerant (like hard-core) but lactase pills mean I get to keep eating calzones. To put it into perspective, I don't eat ice cream even with the pills because the pain is still too much. This is a very casual restaurant. There is no ambience - it's just a big room with tables. There are a few outdoor tables too. You place your order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Service was passable. My sister ordered the chicken soup but it was so salty she sent it back. I ordered the chicken piccata. It was served in a large bowl and was mostly noodles - way too soft noodles. The chicken pieces tasted steamed and almost melted in your mouth. They had no seasoning and no flavor. The sauce, on the other hand, was tasty with capers, tomatoes, and artichokes. I also ordered a not so good cabernet that was served in a very small glass. It was pricey at $20 for a very mediocre meal. I most likely will not return again. read more

Holy Cannoli's!!! An awesome lunch choice. The prices are fair, store extremely clean and staff are very polite. I had the anti-pasta salad and it was the best I've ever had. I've been to this restaurant 3 times with my friends who are super picky about food. If they chose it, it has to be top-notch! Each time I was there, I enjoyed the high-quality food that looked as great as it tasted. Since most Italian restaurants include cheese as an ingredient in almost all the selections, I was happy to see that this restaurant has some that are cheese-free. I had the delicious Chicken Cacciatore during one visit and the flavorful Citrus Grilled Chicken recently. The 1st time I went, I had a large piece of scrumptious Coconut Cake. I haven't made a review lately, but now that I am living in Fredericksburg I decided for my first unfortunate review. I really want to like this place and have gave it 3 1/2 tries. The first time I ordered some delicious looking dessert and they put the wrong cake for my child bday. They did fix the order when I came back, so I thought it happens. The second time I waiting in line for 15-20 min and again waited for my order 30min(Togo). The place was empty so I did not understand why. The third time the same exact thing happen, so I decide to either order online or go somewhere else for pasta. Stopped here for breakfast on the way to an appointment. Their breakfast menu is small but it definitely works best that way. Our breakfast sandwiches were delicious and out in 5 min. As soon as I stepped into Basilico, I was immediately impressed. The staff was very welcoming , friendly and helpful for this lady who was hungry but not sure what she wanted . Everything sounded good and they had a lot to offer . I was advised to try the chicken parm and I am so glad I did ! It was perfectly crispy, yet tender , and a great portion size . The sauce on top was delicious as well. I loved that they had a wine selection , and a-lot of variety to choose from. I of course couldn't leave without dessert . It was very tough to decide what to try because they all looked amazing. I tried both the tiramisu and the 7 layer hazelnut cake , which were both a perfect end to a great meal . I think Basilico gets a lot of hype from those who rave about their dessert options but I'm simply not a "sweets" person, so this is a savoury review. I've been a few times before and have eaten both their pasta and lunch options/combos, so that's mainly what I've rated them on. Their pasta sides could do with a little tweaking (olive oil and vinegar does not a "Tuscan Pasta Salad" make- where are the fresh herbs and spices?) but their sandwiches are always huge and packed with amazing, bold flavours! Their Carbonara is to-die-for and better than I can make at home (which is why I order it from here) and their Berry Fruit Tart is truly out of this world! So, while I can't give them 5-stars, I CAN and WILL recommend that you check them out because they're doing Italian better than any other little bistro in the area! SIDE NOTE: I do wish that they would update their online delivery to reflect actual mileage... Oddly enough I thought I would be wow'd by the food, but I wasn't. In fact, I'm actually quite disappointed if you ask me. I got the Italian hero (another name for a sub) with their macaroni and cheese. I originally had the Tuscan pasta salad, but the cashier persuaded me otherwise. The macaroni and cheese is very rich but it all coagulated to the Tupperware. I felt it was also stingy because even though it was a side, the portion was really small. The sandwich I got is long but not very big, as in not having much inside. I didn't get it toasted as I know it can taste just as good cold, which it did. Unfortunately, the bread was not flavorful at all. It was edible, but not memorable. If I were to try it again I think I would try something else on the menu.
