Most Thai restaurants in the Cincinnati area are good, This one is exceptional. "Basil Thai" has become my favorite Thai restaurant. Located in a shopping mall in Kenwood I was amazed and blown away by the authentic taste, nice portion size and creativity. We tried several dishes and each was even better than the last. The Rainbow Sushi was stunning to look at and the taste was even better Other standards like Pad Thai, Pineapple fried rice were exceptional The service is great. The food fabulous and it's probably the cleanest modern restaurant in town. They make everything to order, so expect a little wait time for your meal (But it is well worth the wait ). read more

Ordered food from here and it's safe to say I will not go back. Philadelphia rolls had mushy rice and discolored fish. Chicken satay was completely flavorless beyond the taste of chicken. Panang curry was ok but the side of rice was complete mush and could be picked up by stabbing large clumps the size of my fist that stuck together. Ordered from DoorDash as I was too tired to go out to get something to eat. The Thai iced tea was too sweet unfortunately but the Penang, Tom Kha Soup, and custard sticky rice were all delightful. Ranking a 3, because this is above average Thai food. Curries are good, rich in veggies and creamy. My favorite thing to get is their noodle dishes, specifically the drunken noodles, pad see ew, or crispy pad Thai. There is a little bit of an old oil taste sometimes if you go at dinner so I would recommend going during lunch time. Service is always alright, and food comes out quick! Ambiance is alright as well. Lots of windows which make it perfect for a daytime lunch spot. read more

Got takeout from Basil Thai when I was in Blue Ash this week, it was good! I had the pork dumplings and larb gai. First time here. Went to lunch here at the recommendation of a friend. It was pretty good. I had the teriyaki chicken which came with vegetables and white rice. Chicken was mostly dark meat. It was good but on the high side being 11.95. Portion size was decent for lunch. My friend had pineapple fried rice with shrimp. It was good. Had a few shrimp but also was a few dollars over priced. I visited Basil Thai for a girls night and had a nice experience! Overall, I didn't have any issues with my visit. Truthfully, I would say none of the dishes I had were memorable. It was a pretty average Thai experience all around. However, the dessert was very delicious! While traveling, found Basil Thai near my hotel. Stopped in Monday evening and was the only one in the dining room. I had the Wonton Soup and the Red Curry Dinner w/chicken (no bamboo). Both were delicious. Wish the red curry had more juice in it but all ingredients were high quality. Ordered medium spice (2) and it was perfect. So good, I came back on Thursday evening. A few more people in the dining room and they seem to have a busy carry-out service. Also had the Tom Kha soup which was just OK. I would visit again without hesitation. read more

The beef in the Mixed Vegetables looked like it had been boiled, and the veggies were fresh but flavorless. The Pad Thai noodles were mushy and tasteless, and the chicken barely had any taste, the dish had some fresh bean sprouts and green onions along with some type of crumbs on top, but this did nothing to improve the taste. Visited Basil Thai for the first time in a minute. Met the new owner, he seemed like a nice guy. It was great that they were open between lunch and dinner. That was a change that was convenient. The restaurant still looked nice inside. I ordered pad see ew, Tom Ka with shrimp and a Thai iced tea. One of the reasons that I and many others from Louisville come all the way up here is that Basil Thai uses fresh, wide noodles for many of their dishes. Unfortunately the new owners have begun using dried rice noodles. This gives dishes a different texture and flavor. You guessed it, my Pad see ew was one of those dishes now with dried noodles. It was lacking flavor and not tasty. I travel for work and I've eaten at great Thai restaurants all over the country. The Tom Ka was just off. It was hard to describe but the favor was bland and wrong. Overall, the experience was of a typical generic Thai restaurant that I've eaten in many times, not the Basil Thai that we came too so many times. I hope the owners read this and try to fix the opportunities. I'll be sad if Basil Thai goes away. read more

My Pad Thai was ok but not great - less protein and raw bean sprouts now. Tried their sushi, a new addition to the menu, and it was terrible (not fresh/fishy). I have to agree with another reviewer that take out/delivery portions are too much for the price. With tip and everything a Basil for 19.00 with chicken should be amazing or larger. The rice container was maybe 2/3 full. It tasted good but not amazing. More vegetables would have been easy way to make it more filling. read more

As far as Thai places, this has to be one of the worst I've had in the area. The only saving grace from a one star review was their crab rangoon which were actually pretty good. I can't express the disappointment with this place after spending almost $130 via DoorDash to feed my family this past weekend for what I thought would be a good Thai meal. I've eaten Thai all across the USA and every once in a while I encounter a restaurant like this where the curry for whatever reason is more water than curry. I don't know if they purposely do this to try and cut down on expenses but I'm used to my Thai curry having flavor. I can't recall a time when I've been more disappointed with a meal and I felt like I was robbed of my money. We did carry out from here as we had no cooking amition this night. It is fairly close to us & I had never had there food. So when I got there it seemed like only one person was working the whole place out front. He wasn't rude but he wasn't especially warm & fuzzy either. More of matter of fact, a Taiwanese Joe Friday if you will?! Anyway the food was brought out & paid for. We both had Chicken Pad Thai & spring rolls. The Spring Rolls were very tasty & I would have ordered more if I had known how small yet delicious they were. The Pad Thai was good but I had asked for a bit spicier version which didn't seem very spicy at all. Will I go back, sure. I now know what else I might order & order it a little more spicy next time. This is a great lunch spot in Blue Ash. The food is good, usually the service is fast and they have a nice variety of options. I've tried the chicken satay, massaman curry, pad see ewe, pad thai, pineapple rice and a few other dishes. All of them were satisfying and enjoyable; I've never disliked anything I've tried here. They do not offer some of their dishes in a non-spicy form; for most of their dishes you can select a spicy level from 1-4. Since I'm weak and can't handle spicy food I usually go with a 1 and this about as spicy as hot Cheetos haha. I do enjoy it and feel there's a little kick. Overall I'd recommend trying this place and ordering the massaman curry. By far this has been my favorite dish. The reason why I rated this restaurant 4/5 is because though all of the dishes I've tried have been good to great none have blown me away. I also feel the prices are slightly too high given the location and atmosphere. However I encourage you to eat here despite my criticism. I love this place. It was located close to where I was working and if u could have eaten there daily, I would. I have been a few times now. Each time the staff was friendly and fast with taking orders. I have eaten and done carry out. Nice space and outdoor area for nice days. I had the fried rice and Thai tea. That Thai tea was so good. I would go back on breaks just to get another. The rice dishes that I tried were all good. Flavor was on point and just enough spice for me. I had enough for leftovers. I go to Basil Thai for lunch at least once a week for a year or so. They use to be just ok, but they revamped their menu to include many more items and now serve sushi. The wait staff are very friendly, and they are always busy. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a Thai / Japanese fusion. The one thing that is keeping me from giving a 5 is their inconsistent spice level. The numbering of 1-4 is just not consistent. I've been here a few times before but haven't been in awhile. It was just as good this time. My friend and I both ordered the Tom Kha soup. It was delicious, with a strong coconut flavor. My friend ordered the Pad See Ew and I ordered the Thai Spicy with chicken. We both enjoyed our meals quite a bit. I ordered mine less spicy than usual and I'm glad that I did since it was still very spicy. The service was quick and efficient. I come here a lot, and it is great Thai food. It is a bring your own alcohol restaurant, no corking fees! They also have wine and beer glasses for you and will take the cork out of your wine for you. The service is quick and friendly. My go to dishes here are the Drunken Noodles (Sauteed flat wide noodles with mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, carrots and basil leaves), Hot Basil (Sauteed ground Beef or Chicken with chili, garlic and basil leaves), or Thai Spicy (Sauteed mixed vegetables with spicy curry sauce). All are great options and you can get them with chicken, pork, tofu or vegetables. The spice level is 1-4 and it is a pretty accurate spice scale for all my spice lovers out there. Definitely recommend this place if you find yourself in the Montgomery or Blue Ash area around dinner. read more

Really nice looking place great atmosphere I ordered my meal to go unfortunately I found hair in my food when I got back to work. I called in the same order for pickup and didn't mention anything about my in unacceptable Order. When I arrived my order wasn't ready and the man demanded that I pay for my to go order even thought wasn't ready. When I handed him to go box and told him it had a large hair on top and I wanted another order. Maybe I just should have asked for my money back but I gave them the Benefit of the doubt. He asked for my ordering he wanted to take it to the kitchen. Here is where I wished I asked for my money back. I told I'd rather wait until I get my new order. He seem like he got mad at that point. He took it and said he had to show his cook. That's the last thing I wanted him to do especially since I hadn't received my new order yet. A few minutes later he came out with a perfectly looking new order. He never apologized for wasting what happen.
