I'm going to preface this one. Normally I rate primarily on food and price with ambiance and service being a secondary concern. That said, my family had such a great experience with our waiter Sean that I can't really ignore it for this one. He really went above and beyond, joking with the kids, being very personable and attentive, and just overall being a great host. On to the review. The store itself is clean and pleasant, the service staff was fantastic the day we were there. My family and I walked in after spending the morning out in the sun and we were tired and dehydrated. We decided to stop by because my youngest wanted pho. We ordered a ribeye pho, a grilled bbq squid, and a bun bo hue. Pho - I feel like pho is a dish that you can really express yourself with. This pho leans heavily into what we're guessing is cinnamon and sugar than other pho and is a bit sweeter and warmer than most. This particular pho also wasn't quite as rich as some of the others I've had, but I may also be comparing it to ox-tail pho which isn't a fair. Overall hits the spot. Bun Bo Hue - My wife and I loved this one. The flavors of the bun bo hue were right up our alley. Rich, complex, very tasty with a nice kick to it. We really enjoyed this one and thought it was one of the best ones in our area. I will say that we were missing the pork blood, but I can see how other people might not. Good stuff. BBQ Squid - Honestly, not much to say about this. It was sweet and not overcooked, which is all we really needed. The sauce was good and the squid was grilled well, not rubbery at all. The boys enjoyed it quite a bit. Black Vietnamese Coffee - This might just be a fake part of the review because my wife and I had just been out in the sun for a few hours and desperately needed cold coffee, but we really liked their coffee. It was DARK and rich with very little acidity. It made us happy. Overall, the food is pretty good for the price. I can see how the pho can be polarizing, but the bun bo hue is definitely worth a try. I was craving a solid bowl of pho today, so I stopped by Basil Bistro with my parents and the kids. We got the combination pho (their special), and it did not disappoint. The broth was really flavorful, and there was a perfect meat-to-noodle ratio. We also ordered a vermicelli dish--the egg roll that came with it was good and crispy, but the dish itself was a miss. It didn't have any meat as this dish normally does, and the fish sauce they served with it just didn't taste like the right one. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. We were seated right away, and our waiter was friendly, attentive, and kept everything moving smoothly. Coming from San Diego, I've had my fair share of good bun bo hue, so I don't say this lightly... theirs really hit the spot. The broth was the star--SO flavorful, rich, and packed with depth. You can tell they took their time with it. It was perfectly balanced, not too heavy, and every spoonful was just so satisfying. I kept going back for "one more sip" until it was gone. I also tried the beef fried rice and this was not your typical fried rice. It wasn't bland or just lightly seasoned--this one had real flavor. Everything tasted well thought out and properly seasoned. I especially liked the addition of broccoli, which added a nice texture and a little twist that worked really well with the dish. The salt and pepper chicken wings were another standout. Super crispy on the outside with great flavor in every bite. They had that perfect crunch and seasoning that makes them hard to stop eating. Customer service was amazing. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, and it really felt like a family-owned spot. The kind of place where you feel taken care of and appreciated. 10 STARS FOR ME! I'm honestly surprised this place doesn't have more reviews or more traffic! The wings were incredible--golden brown with a handmade batter and spices mixed together perfectly. You can tell they're made fresh and cooked just right. The lemongrass chicken was also delicious--full of flavor and perfectly prepared. Everything tasted authentic and made with care. This used to be Lemongrass but they changed the owner. It's decent Vietnamese food but I think they're charging way too high for simple Vietnamese food. $7 for a Vietnamese coffee and almost $20 for Pho. Pork vermicelli - big enough portion . egg rolls were really good but strips of charbroiled pork were little and sliced very thin . Love how the veggies were fresh. Fish sauce was bland Bun Bo hue- good and flavorful but still lacking some broth depth compared to other places Spring rolls- decent and fresh. Wish there were the crispy stuff inside like how Lemongrass and Brodards do it. The lady was extremely nice. As much as I want to support small businesses , I can't see myself wanting to come again. We came for Mother's Day lunch, looking to try a new spot and left with happy bellies. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was friendly and quick, the best combo! We ordered their Charbroiled pork with egg roll rice plate, vermicelli bowl, and Pad Thai. The pork cutlets were pounded thin until tender, marinated with so much flavor, and grilled until aromatic. The rice plate came with two cutlets over a mound of rice, I was impressed with the portion size. My egg roll was so crispy and came hot. The Pad Thai had a unique twist, it didn't have the usual sweet-tart sauce, instead more like a garlicky sweet soy sauce. Still delicious! The flavor of the beef broth on the pho was so good I drank the broth until my bowl was empty. The vegetables were fresh and the flavor was great! It was a Wednesday night and we were the only table beside another table with one person. Scanned through the menu and decided to order beef pho, yam veggie roll, gyoza and fried chicken bowl. The service was nice and attentive. Now, let me review the food: - Beef pho is below par, the broth wasn't hot at all and it was too little for the typical pho bowl. Nicely, the waiter brought us another bowl of broth and it was very hot when we mentioned our concern to him. Why not from the beginning they served it as hot? The flavor of the broth wasn't savory IMHO. It's not that authentic and the beef is just ok, a bit dry overall. - Fried chicken rice bowl is more like Japanese Oyako don, but with fried chicken. The portion is pretty small, the portion of the chicken itself more like appetizer size. The rice also tastes old. - Yam Veggie Roll was pretty good, but way too much Thai sweet chili sauce and gyoza was just ok. I have come here before and loved it, I was nonstop bragging about how good this place was to my partner and said we should come here for dinner. Well this second experience made me completely change my opinion. The server was nice, but I waited nearly 45 mins to get my food. And not even that, when I got my food it was the wrong order which resulted in another 15 mins wait, at this point I was so frustrated I just wanted to leave. There was only my table of 3 people and another table of two people who came 20 mins after us and got served their food way faster and ordered way more food than we did. The portions of the food are massive and if you think otherwise you are delusional (and probably obese). The food is very flavorful and the customer service is phenomenal.
