    Filet Mignon Pho

Broth was flavorful and staff was attentive. Menu isn't as flexible as I am used to but they had pho options i like. They have a wonderful selection of beverages and foods.

Booth Furniture (Seating is Poorly Maintained/Torn)

Pho Mai (Chino Hills) is a cesspool of shortcuts and subpar quality. My pho's beef tendon had congealed, melted black hair in it (Photo Attached). The booth's furniture is poorly maintained and showed tearing (Photo Attached). And the sauce bottles look unmaintained and half-hazard (Photo Attached). The cordial service and largely portioned, decent tasting pho prevents this review from sharply dropping below 3 stars. (Quick Note: Credit Cards have a $10 minimum. And Pho Mai does not accept Discover & American Express Credit Cards) I ordered the #1 Combination Pho (Pho Doc Biet - $16). The order arrived in seven minutes and five seconds. The pho's noodles were generous; however, I had some noodles with clumpy ends. These noodles were difficult to separate and too starchy, so they created a gummy texture and taste. The meat is also bountiful. I appreciated most of the fresh meat. Unfortunately, I found a beef tendon that wasn't properly cleaned, so it had congealed black hairs in it. The broth had a meaty aftertaste. Service is cordial. The young staff works quickly. I observed how they clean tables as customers leave. However, rather than bringing the dirty bowls to the back, they instead roll out a dingy bucket cart besides the table. Then, staff dumps the leftovers and cleans it out in the open. As they cleaned, I noticed how their rushing left bits of small trash on the floor. Unfortunately, ambiance is very poor. When entering Pho Mai (Chino Hills), I immediately felt the stuffy and warm musk of the location. The interior smelt like smoky broth. The funky pop 80s/90s music felt very dated (songs: What is Love?; Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!!). The furniture and menus are poorly maintained. The booth's chairs are worn down; the tables had that dried sticky feel; the menus had dried/old smudges. Pho Mai (Chino Hills) reminded me of a faltering retirement home. Overall, Pho Mai (Chino Hills) serves largely portioned food, but its quality is substandard. I hope it improves. 2.5/5

Last night 3/26/2025 for dinner we walked in at about 57 minutes before closing time . Warmed welcome with a smile approached by server! Very cozy dining seating with rows of ceiling lights making restaurant merry and bright!! Ordered the Green Tea with Lychee cubes and quenched my thirst !! Beef Pad See-ew was smoky flavorful served with flat noodles , beef slices and broccoli . The Filet Mignon Pho had light seasoned flavorful broth with noodles and tender filet mignon meat. Onion strings were mixed in the noodles which gave it a different take on just plain soft noodles but had a crunchy bite too! I can't wait to visit again and try the other PHO like the ox tail and ribs!!!!

Ambience quiet and casual. Place clean and organized. Seating arrangement nice and spacious. Good service. Ordered Filet Mignon pho and Beef Pad see-ew. Mignon meat with pho soft and tender but soup has milder and not as rich in flavor. Pad see-ew not as so sweet and savory but chewy texture & smokiness still made it an enjoyable meal. Lychee lemonade drink was refreshing and a good palette finisher. Will come back to try other dishes on their menu.

The spring rolls here are the worst I've ever had. The shrimp tasted extremely fishy, and the sauce was also very fishy. The texture was really bad as well. These are the worst spring rolls I've ever had at any Vietnamese restaurant.

Look at what I ordered versus what I received. Only three pieces of chicken, no fish sauce no soup literally nothing I also asked for broken rice and I got regular rice.

The food has hair inside. Tastes not that good. Do not suggest coming to the restaurant.

#21 Crispy Chicken Leg Quarter Soup with egg noodles
    Matthew C.

I found this place on a complete whim while driving by to a nearby mall. I went during a Saturday lunch service. There were a half dozen tables seated in the same area and they let me sit where there was an open table. I ordered the #21 Crispy Chicken Leg Quarter Soup with egg noodles. For those unfamiliar with this dish, the chicken is prepared after you order it- seasoned and deep fried. Since it is a chicken leg quarter, it takes some time to deep fry until fully cooked so a 15 minute wait is not uncommon. This is a traditional Vietnamese dish but it is not served at may restaurants anymore because it is not as popular with the younger generations. I was talking with the manager and he confirmed that exact same thing, it is not very popular with the younger ones but the older customers really appreciate it being on the menu. This goes along with the chicken curry stew that is served with the French bread- which they also have on the menu. This dish did not disappoint! Well seasoned, flavorful, crispy and tasty. Overall, very good quality of food and service. I did not see any quality issues while I was there that I've seen in other reviews. I am definitely going back again.

Walking into the establishment, the atmosphere was clean and organized. It didn't feel chaotic even though they were a little busy. There wasn't much of a greeting when I walked in, but it wasn't a big deal they seemed focused on getting orders out. Pickup was simple and straightforward. Now let's talk about the food. The lobster mac was the highlight. They were not shy with the lobster with generous chunks throughout. That was a major plus. Nothing worse than ordering lobster mac and getting tiny flakes. This one actually delivered. Creamy, rich, and the lobster pieces made every bite worth it. The clam chowder was creamy and had a nice texture, but it was a bit mediocre overall. Mainly because there weren't enough clams in it, and it came without oyster crackers which feels like a must with chowder. Flavor was decent, just needed a little more substance. The sourdough bread, though? That was a treat. They were not stingy with it. Nice chewy texture, fresh, and flavorful. It definitely elevated the meal and honestly might have been my favorite part alongside the lobster mac. Overall, solid experience. A few small things that could improve, like more meat, but the generous lobster and that sourdough bread make it worth coming back.

Conveniently located in the Shoppes at Chino Hills, this is not a large sit down restaurant, but there are a few tables to enjoy your meal. Don't let the size of this place fool you. Great food and service. Jen ordered the lasagna, while I ordered the meatball sandwich. My sandwich was very good. Perfect cooking and taste of the meatball, great sauce and the use of ciabatta bread made the sandwich taste light and didn't take away from the meatball, sauce or cheese. We ordered and spent time on their patio while it was prepared. When ready it was brought out to us. The owner even stopped in the restaurant and checked on us to make sure our dinner was enjoyable. She said they're known for their pizzas, so okay, I ordered a whole cheese pizza and chicken fettuccine Alfredo. She tells me it'll take about 15 minutes for my order to be ready. I waited over 30 minutes and nothing. Not once did someone come out to inform me if my order was ready or delayed. Okay.... the place wasn't busy, there was nobody in line. I go inside to check on the status of my order. Employee sees me and hands me a paper bag that's been sitting behind the counter. As she hands me the bag, she tells me they ran out of fettuccine so it's spaghetti Alfredo... I share the pizza. Nothing spectacular. Friends said Little Caesar's Pizza is better. The chicken spaghetti Alfredo was okay. Chicken was super dry. I wouldn't recommend either. I'll give this place another shot and will try something else next time. But, $40+ for cheese pizza and dry chicken pasta? Not worth it. If the next time it is better, I'll let y'all know.

I have eaten my way through filet mignon, ribeyes that could make you emotional, slow braised short ribs that fall apart if you look at them too hard, and somehow, somehow, this corned beef just walked in, sat down at the head of the table, and said, "We're doing things differently now." The meat? Ridiculous. Tender in a way that makes you question physics. Moist without being greasy. Rich without crossing into that heavy, regret filled territory. Every bite felt like it had been engineered by someone who understands joy on a molecular level. And then, because apparently that wasn't enough, you get the balance. The sauerkraut cuts through with just the right tang. The Russian dressing slides in with this creamy, slightly sweet acidity that ties everything together like it has a degree in culinary diplomacy. Nothing fights. Nothing overwhelms. It's harmony. It's orchestral. It's borderline inappropriate how good it is. The rye bread? Let's talk about it. Toasty, flavorful, structurally sound, which matters, because this sandwich has presence. It doesn't just hold the sandwich, it participates. It shows up. It contributes. Now let me save you from making the same mistake I did: Do not order the fries. Listen, the curly fries are great. I'm not here to slander them. But pairing them with this sandwich is like trying to follow a standing ovation with a fireworks show indoors. It's too much. This sandwich is already peak decadence. Add fries, and you've crossed into excess that your soul, and your digestive system, will have a meeting about later. Next time, I am getting fruit. Something light. Something that respects what just happened on that plate. Final verdict: This isn't just a sandwich. It's an event. A commitment. A decision you don't make casually. And yes, I will absolutely be ordering it again.
