Hawaiian BBQ Beef Chicken Katsu
David B.

I've always treated this place as a quick in and out for spam musubi (when I've needed a fast meal) and I never took the time to actually see what else was on this places menu... hence this review of a bbq beef and katsu combo. Venturing out, by looks alone you can see they pack it up pretty well. Few scoops of rice, your Mac salad, and self serve sauce (if you're a sauce lover it's perfect). There are those times where you see a picture and you just know the food was good, this was absolutely one of those times. The meats were warm and tender, no rubbery texture or hard to pull. The sauce put the cherry on top, and for the price I was blown away. It has since been added as part of my regular going out list, and I'm mad I didn't try anything else sooner. The lady at the counter is so sweet and she works extremely hard, there's decent amount of seating inside but tables in the courtyard if it's a nice day out. You won't be disappointed with this Hawaiian bbq joint!

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam container that visibly softened and melted wherever it touched the food.

TLDR: you buy to go food here, you eat plastic. It's unbelievable that in 2026, with AI everywhere, 2 nm chips on your phone, and self driving taxis on the road, this restaurant is still putting food straight off a scorching hot griddle into Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam containers. The foam visibly softened and melted wherever it touched the food. They didn't even bother to put a layer of aluminum foil between the food and the container. EPS is not designed for food at this temperature. Once it starts softening and melting, chemicals from the plastic can migrate into the food. This isn't acceptable food handling. Heat resistant containers cost very little, so the only explanation is they're too cheap to use the right packaging. I won't be back until they stop cutting corners.

If you're in Chino Hills and want comfort Hawaiian food. Give Young Hawaiian BBQ a try. They seem to have a lot of steady walk-in as well as phone orders. It's a small little place with five or so tables for sit down eating. Nothing fancy, everything is about the food. The owner is really friendly and greeted us when we came in. Placed our order and waited. The owner brought us this tasty sugar coated what essentially is a doughnut ball for us to snack on while we waited for our order. That was unexpected and really welcomed by my two "always hungry teenagers". My son ordered the two item combo and i feel that is really a great deal for about $14 you get to choose two proteins. He ordered katsu and hamburger patties (you get 2). My daughter and I ordered the short ribs. Loved every bite of it. Definitely recommend a visit.

Asked for 6, gave 3 and 2 spilled. Now I only have 1 cup to eat with 2 orders spam musubi and katsu mix..

I had a really disappointing experience with Young Hawaiian Barbecue in Chino. I ordered delivery and spent over $31+, but when I asked for six cups of katsu sauce, they said I could only get three. In the past, even at the store, they have the sauce available on the counter wide open, but this time, it felt really stingy. It's frustrating because I couldn't fully enjoy my meal. Instead of prioritizing customer satisfaction, it felt like they were saving a few cents. I might give ono hawaiian a try since they are also on uber. Same price and same tip for the driver. I dont lose anything. This was a letdown for customer that ordered 2x at least a month from ubereats (March 29th, march 22th,Feb 21st, Feb 15th) Good luck‼

10 malasadas included in the Family meal

I'm not here to knock on the food. It's actually quite good. The short ribs and the Mac salad are so good. The problem comes if you order online at the website. The Family meal clearly states 3 meats, macaroni salad and 10 malasadas. When I got there, they said that I don't get the malasadas. I showed her the menu, but she said with confidence that the malasadas are not included. She said she'll ask the Owner later. There's a section online that asks "How can we make this right?" I told them and gave it several days, but no response. Bottom line right now. Don't order the Family meal online. Call the restaurant directly. You'll get the malasadas and save an additional $7.00

They are nice take me back to atmosphere in the 90s so it was very fun, so if you got to go on lunch for business this a nice spot

Delicioussss ! Everything was so good. 10/10! Clean space, great customer service and great food!

#5 BBQ Chicken & Short Ribs - tasty
Michael A.

I was in the mood for some old school Hawaiian BBQ. After working out I needed some recovery. The place was crowded inside & people on tables outside. A scan of the menu offered many choices & drinks. I ordered a combo plate with Short ribs & chicken. You get 2 scoops of rice & macaroni salad. First off, portion sides were huge. Perfect for those looking for a protein boost. The meat was tender, moist & very flavorful. What I like the most is that the meat is not dripping with sauce because they don't pour anything on it. You need to put the sauce on your own. They have a dispenser with warmed sauces, bbq, teriyaki & katsu. Don't forget to grab some if you're eating to go. Sticky rice was perfect & macaroni salad classically made. Add a bit of shoyu & you are set. Only one gal working the counter, she seemed somewhat distracted but she took my order correctly. One cook on the grill. The food was delicious & satisfying. I can see where some might be put off by the service. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu especially the Lau lau.

But the bbq chicken and bbq beef were right on the money. I did have a problem paying $24 for one combo and one drink, as even with these three items, I was still expecting the meal to not be more than $20 total. That will be the main reason I probably won't return. The service was good. It was quick and friendly. And the ambiance was alright too as everything was clean, efficient, and not distracting. I just agree with the statement earlier that there are better rice bowl, hawaiian, and/or teriyaki food joints in the area at either a much better quality or better pricing. This seems to find that line where what you get, though good, is a bit over-priced for what you get and there is no recourse to get something smaller because then you will be over-paying and still hungry. I'd almost give this place a 4 though because I did enjoy the meal quality-wise.

Today's order was: bbq beef: marinated savoriness and tender; short rib (bit of an up charge) grilled perfectly with tender, juicy, well marbled bites; and teriyaki chicken that's always moist. Mac salad is luxuriously creamy that compliments the rich and savory meats, while rice sops up the delicious sauces. Heck, I'm a sucker for the bed of cabbage for the same reason! Usually I find the workers at Ono to be super friendly and nice, but the experience I had tonight…read morewas kind of an aberration. Yes, I arrived 50 minutes before they were closing, but it certainly didn't warrant being treated like I had wrecked wedding plans. First off, the first was good as usual. I was in the mood for shrimp and Ono is pretty reliable at making an inexpensive breaded shrimp entree. The BBQ chicken was fairly delicious. Ono making inedible food is never the problem. They consistently rock everything they offer on their menu. As some of you know, it's a pet peeve of mine when I call special attention to eating it there as opposed to getting it to go. I like taking my time--still being respectful if they're closing--to eat my meals while the food is piping hot, while I have access to refills if I need it, and while I still have the ability to order more while I'm there if I'm still hungry. I hate when food joints place everything in containers and bag it all up, trying to kick you out the door. It ruins the ambience of meals being a time to relax and recalibrate. Not to mention I appreciate the opportunity to take pictures for Yelp on a plate or platter while the food is looking particularly photogenic. I can forgive a place if they no longer use real plates or platters, opting for a container. But I despise having to remove my food from a plastic bag that I don't need and then becomes a thing that goes into the trash because it's now used. So it was that I asked for a tray so I could take my dinner to a table. Instead of giving me one though, the worker looked like she wanted to tell me no, that eating in-house wasn't allowed. She turned to her co-worker saying, this guy wants tray. The second worker then asked me, "Do you really need a tray?" I'm pretty sure that's not up to the worker to decide if I require a tray. That's purely a decision on whether my current food load, condiments, sauces, and utensils warrant having a medium by which to ferry all of it to my table. After assuring her that, yes, indeed, I needed a tray, she finally handed one over. After that, maybe it was part of their closing duties, but they constantly had one worker sweeping the floor, wiping the tables, pushing the chairs in, &c... while I was trying to eat. It was one step away from being surveilled during my meal. Perhaps they thought they could catch me underutilizing said tray to get a picture for a gotcha moment. Or maybe they just generally dislike when customers use trays. I don't know. All I know is it gave the whole meal a feeling of being on the clock, having such helicopter tactics utilized against me. It tainted the whole meal. I hate having people moving around me when I'm trying to eat, but it's especially unnerving when it feels targeted to make me uncomfortable. That's some passive aggressive silliness. As aforementioned, the food was still delectable. You really can't go wrong with Hawaiian food when you're in a certain mood--shrimp or otherwise. But I don't know how often I'll be coming to this location if this retaliatory behavior is what I can expect when I humbly give directions to eat my food there and utilize one of their most sacred trays.
