Finally tried Basil 1791 in Hamilton's rejuvenated Downtown, and WOW! What a tremendous experience! This beautifully restored building offers a vast menu of Asian and American favorites at prices that are unbelievably affordable. We wanted to sample, so we tried the General's Chicken, the Honey Chicken, a sushi roll, and an order of crab rangoons. I would order all three again! The General's Chicken was honestly the best I've ever had. Crunchy breading, delicious sauce, and just the right level of spice. The sushi roll was easy to split between 3-4 people for an app, and it was spicy and fresh. I couldn't believe the lunch prices. A meal for $8.50 in a sit down restaurant?! Thank goodness! Our service was spectacular, and overall this was a uniquely creative, different, and fun dining experience! Overpriced yuppy hype. Their Pad Thai was "meh". You can get better across town at House of Bangkok. They (house of bangkok) at least offer a fraction of the cost, for fresh ingredients, large servings and a friendly staff. Also, Basil's vegetarian options are decent, but if you're going to charge an exorbitant amount for a child's serving size, at least provide more options for diners who have restrictive diets. I can get a Beyond Burger, or a veggie burger elsewhere, for cheaper. This is one of those "I could have made it at home, better and less costly" places. Sure, it is nice to have a night out. This place is Amazing!!!! I stopped in for lunch one day and I must admit I was more than satisfied with the food. The staff are very friendly and you most definetly get more than enough to eat!!!! There is also a place you can sit outside to eat when it's nice. Also have amazing drinks. We need more restraints like this in Hamilton!!!! read more

First of all, the service was fantastic & the food was great! However, I had a reservation for 6:45, but wasn't seated until 7:30. Waiting nearly an hour with a party of 8 was and is unacceptable. There were other smaller parties with reservations that had to wait as well. Then, when we were seated, we were put in our own room, which smelled disgustingly like the bathrooms. I was close to cancelling our table, and wish I had. Between the long wait, the bathroom room we were in, and the fact that it was not a cheap meal--I wish I would have changed my plans. read more

Not good. Service was ok. I ordered the General Tso chicken and I got chicken soup with 30 Chile peppers and 3000 red pepper flakes. I'm still picking out red pepper flakes from my teeth as I write this. My friends ordered tofu drunken noodles and the noodles were cut up into half-inch long strips, making it impossible to eat at any reasonable pace. The tofu was sub-par. Would not recommend. Only saving grace was good price for beer. Also their pens sucked. read more

Great food, but we got there an hour and a half before they closed on a Wednesday night and we didn't get our food until close to closing. It took them 20 minutes before they took our drink orders, and we were only one of three parties in the restaurant! I ordered carryout lunch here. Basil used to have lunch prices for many of its dishes made with a wok, but now charges everything at its dinner prices, so it is a bit expensive for lunch. But what disappointed me more was that when I went in to get my carryout (no curbside option was offered), there were 3 employees standing around talking to each other (fairly close together), and none was wearing a mask. This appears to be a violation of the order governing the reopening of restaurants. Even if it weren't, it indicates to me a casual attitude towards sanitation and health, not acceptable in today's world. The food was okay but I won't be back anytime soon. read more

I was not sure what to expect when I went to Basil. I checked out the menu prior to going and was a little confused. It is like a hybrid Asian American Restaurant. Where else can you get craft beer, hamburger, steak, sushi and general TSO`s. This place didn't disappoint. We had a relatively big group and everyone left satisfied. I had the General Tso`s which was plenty of food with extras to take home. The sauce was not your typical General TSO, it was a little too thick. The fried rice was great! We will for sure check this place out again. Hopefully, the city of Hamilton continues to support this business. The city needs a place like this for their revitalization. read more

Best Asian food in the area! Wide menu variety with non-Asian options. The ambiance is lovely. Went a couple weeks ago for dinner on a Tuesday night and there was a jazz pianist playing holiday tunes upstairs. Cocktails were good, but the homemade chocolate Oreo cheesecake was the best I've ever had - even better than NY cheesecake. The service has always been excellent. Basil is great!! Great drinks, great bartenders, and delicious food. The sushi is good, the noodles are good and even the full entrees. Love the service and the staff here. The Pad Thai is probably one of the best around. Our party also tried the Mozzarella Chicken, which was fantastic (I had one bite) and the burgers are huge. The Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai was good. The chicken breast was mostly cut into five or six large chunks that were fairly evenly distributed through the noodles with the five or so shrimp. I did not feel the dish was lacking for meat. Unfotunately, this location's take on this famous dish had sprouts on the side instead of peanuts. Although it was good enough, I ate my meal, I think some peanut flavor would have enhanced the dish. The waiter was very friendly and provided great service in the classic city restaurant style space. The food was served super fast! From a distance, it looks like they have a full bar. We ordered the crab Rangoon, General Tso's chicken, and chicken lo mein. My husband wasn't a fan of the crab Rangoon but the lo mein was good. The General Tso's though, that dish is on point! We got it to go but the restaurant is really nice. I love how the outdoor dining looks. I grabbed a carry out menu while there and saw that they have picky kid food as well which is perfect for us since our middle child is allergic to culture. I'm very happy to know we can eat in with our family and there's an option for everyone, even the pickiest. We will definitely be back! read more

Went Saturday eve. Three of us no reservation. Told us 1/2 hr wait.. we went to bar to wait. They were slammed but all seemed to do their best. We were seated in about 20 mins which gave us enough time to enjoy a tiger roll at the bar. Delicious ! Their sushi chef was cranking out rolls of all kind and boy was he busy! Got seated ..table server was very nice but a little slow, again I think it was just due to being very busy. All of the food was delicious but the best part was when my dish set off the smoke alarms and HFD had to come! Got a great pic with the firemen on way out! A fun night time was had by all! Unimpressed on our first visit. We sat at the bar. Bar staff didn't seem to know "who was on first". They were constantly tripping over each other and they were sloppy and at times a bit frantic. We observed some things that made us raise our eyebrows- not good bar practices. We were asked 3 times by different bar tenders if we ever got our appetizer - after we had eaten it. For dinner, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and salmon sashimi. Both were ok, but not great. (I travel extensively and have had amazing sushi in other cities around the world- so do I expect top notch sushi in downtown Hamilton? No. ) My husband ordered orange glaze chicken with no onions or scallions and had to send it back when it came out loaded with scallions. The good thing is that the place was packed. Good thing for downtown Hamilton and I want it to succeed. I will try it again. I know the kitchen hasn't been open long so maybe they have some kinks to work out with food and service. read more

Basil 1791 has an wide range of choices on their menu from which to choose. Located in the historic area of Hamilton just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Miami River and other attractions.
