    Pad see ew
    Troy R.

Ate at Basil during a recent art festival. We were able to eat outside on a beautiful night. The service was great. The Rangoon was good. The Thai dumplings were excellent and the sauce was really good. We both had pad see ew with different spice levels. My wife's (lower spice) did not have enough sauce. Mine was better, but noodles were more like a fettuccine noodle. Overall good, but not the best version of the entree I have had. If in the area I would consider coming back as it was reasonably priced and tasty.

We were staying nearby in an Airbnb, and just finished visiting Marcum Park and were looking for a restaurant. Thai food sounded good so we gave it a try. Nice private booths inside, wait staff was very friendly, and good Thai food. Wait staff gave us lots of recommendations for breakfast the next morning, and we went on our way. Definitely enjoyed our stop!

First time trying this place after driving by it hundreds of times! Service was quick and attentive. The food was amazing and the portions were huge! A great menu with tons of choices- will be making another trip to try more!

Avocado curry with tofu and brown rice. Yum!

Delicious food! Friendly fast service. I had the vegetarian egg roll. It came out hot and served with a sweet & sour sauce. It was great! I also had the avocado curry with tofu. Big chunks of tofu, green beans, peppers, avocado and onions in a delicious curry sauce. I chose brown rice to accompany it. I loved the heat in it! My son went with the sushi special and edamame. He said the sushi was very fresh and very good. Edamame was also very good. Yup, as Arnold said, 'I'll be back!'

Decided to have a last minute dinner at Basil 1791 on a Saturday night, we were seated immediately when we got there-- great service! Our server Cara was great and super friendly. We got the crunch roll to start and it was so delicious, as well as a blueberry basil mojito and pink starburst martini- the drinks are so good!!! The weekend special when we went was a $22 red wine braised short rib with sides, and it was delicious. The pad Thai comes with shrimp & chicken already which was a plus because you don't find that at most restaurants-- and it was amazing. Will definitely come back here!!!

First off, my rating is in between a 3 star and 4 stars, so let's just say for now it is a 3.5. My experiences have been between meh, just ok to wow this is good! I am really bummed about this review and was hopeful to deliver a more exciting review as I have been here many times now. My biggest complaint is consistency! I cannot express my disappointment more when it comes to a great night versus an a okay night. Unfortunately, we have had more subpar experiences than great. mostly with service than food. Very few times we have had a service where that staff is friendly, minus the host. She is always friendly and welcoming! When we've had good service, it was such an enjoyable time, and we could ask questions and felt excited about the vibe. The food has been mostly good, but again consistency is a problem. My favorite thing to order is sushi and when it is good it is the best I have had around, but then I have experiences where it is not as fresh and I really dislike brown avocado, slimy fish and not to mention fish scales! We've ordered pick up a few times and my husband and I have found the food is much better eating in. Have had wrong orders, also made completely different from what I had before in the restaurant. I am hopeful to have more wonderful experience again. There's so much potential to be great here.

This was my first time here. Let me say, the appetizer was tasty (Crab Rangoon) and my shrimp lo mein was pretty good. My husband's volcano roll is the reason this review is getting a four star verses 5. It was just ok. Nothing we would come back to order but I wouldn't mind coming back for more shrimp lo mein.

Anyone asked for gluten free stuff here? Are they accommodating? Also not a meat eater, so that cuts out sushi. Thanks !

There are plenty of rice and vegetable dishes with a great variety of sauces from mild to super spicy.

There is a small parking lot plus street parking available. One interesting thing is the numerous old photos of Hamilton hanging on the walls. There is even one of the building back in the day! We ordered an Anna's pretzel with beer cheese and horse cheese as an appetizer. It was one of the best soft pretzels I've eaten! Large, warm and the 2 dipping sauces made a great accompaniment. We ordered a Reuben and fish and chips also. They were yummy as well. The bar tender/waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The prices are very moderate. I noticed they even offered lunch specials. I definitely plan on visiting again.

The waitress seemed helpful enough, though, as there's weren't many customers this early in the evening, she was too busy watching the Winter Olympics to give me more than the cursory attention needed to bring my food out and take my payment. But the food definitely made up for that. This is made-from-scratch creativity at its finest. I got the Reuben's Stones, expecting a fried fritter, but got a delicate, made-like-my-mamma-would pastry instead. It was soft and doughy inside, and jam-packed with corned beef. The fish in the fish and chips was huge, hot, and right out of the fryer. And the fries had to be made from scratch, because I've never seen that particular shape come out of a freezer bag: they looked cut naturally from the round, and were also hot and tasty. And the warm butter cake was as amazing as everyone said. Actually it's this small squat cake that looks like a muffin -- until you cut into it and realize it's soaked in syrup inside & absolutely delicious. The only disappointment were the green beans --- they were overcooked and mushy -- though maybe that's how English green beans are authentically cooked. Overall, though, my visit was a real adventure filled with authentic and delicious surprises. I will definitely be back to try more.

It is an escape from the crowded, noisy environment that one finds at the sports facility across the street, and I am grateful that Hydraulic Bar is here to provide an oasis. The space is great; a view of the river, nicely decorated bar and dining room, and within the re-purposed Champion Paper Mill. Service is good; I usually hang at the bar and have always been well taken care of. Bar is good; a lot of draft beer selections and decent cocktails. Prices are reasonable; especially weeknights when they have half-price appetizers during happy hour. So why three starts? The food is hit or miss, and sometimes enough of a miss for it to be an issue. I've eaten quite a few items off the menu. The GIANT pretzel is a hit for sharing. (is indeed Colossal). The appetizer tacos are good. The pizzas are quite small and mostly crust (not enough cheese and toppings). The jalapenos on the stuffed jalapenos were undercooked and super-crispy like an uncooked jalapeno. The nachos were bad; a tray of chips with cheese whiz and a scoop of sour cream plopped in the middle. They have some sandwiches and salads also I haven't tried. I like the space, I like the bar, I am grateful to have this place to hangout, but the FOOD needs work. Would recommend as a place to hang out, but this is NOT a place for a meal.

The concept is basically same as Chipotle, build your own bowl pick your own protein, veggies and bases. We started ours with the lemon rice and added I think almost all the toppings lol and then we got the fried chicken if I remember correctly, and added the sauce on the sides. Now I had very high hopes for the restaurant. But what I didn't like is how 1. The chicken was super big. More like chicken nuggets in the bowl instead of chicken FOR the bowl. We had like 6 pieces of chicken but a big bowl full of other toppings. Something I did like though is there was no limit on the toppings. You could get all of them or none of them if you really wanted. It threw me off with the sauces we asked for them in the side and they gave us packets. Idk why but it kind of threw me off too then we ended up forgetting to even use them when we ate the actual bowl. The sauces probably would have helped with the bowl, but tbh the experience was just anti climatic. Personally it just feel like a whole bunch of American Asian items thrown together in one bowl
