I went here on 11/20/2024 at 4:25pm and ordered Vietnamese Pho and Eggroll my server was a male, let's start here with my complaint, the server did not even introduce himself when he sat me down, I waited for some more water and didn't want to wait any longer I had to get up to FIND him just to get a water refill. Not one time did he stopped by my table and ask if everything was good, but he definitely did not forget to give me my check. And when I got my check the price of the pho was different on the menu than what I was billed, luckily he charge me for the the price I seen on the menu but he was definitely rude about it. I was finished eating and again, had to get up to find him to get my receipt. This use to be my favorite place, sadly not coming back. read more

So sad to give Basil one star. I've reviewed them before but it seems over the last year or so things have begun to slip. I was in last Friday and waited for 10 minutes before the host even took our name. They looked busy and the host seemed to be busing tables and hosting. So I chalked it up to a snafu. Finally got our name in the list and waited about 20 minutes for our table. That was perfectly fine. I'm willing to wait for one if my favorite places. However, once my party of two was seated we never were greeted by a server. Never. We waited 25 minutes and still no server. I made eye contact with the servers in the area. Nothing. I went looking for the host and I could not find him. This is probably the third visit where service was slow once we made it to our table. On another occasion the food was lukewarm. The menu has shrunk too but I assume that is due to Covid. Unfortunately Basils success has outpaced their ability to deliver the quality customer service that originally helped make them one of the premier restaurants in the area. If you are going to be in Hamilton - this is the place to eat. Incredible food that you would not expect out of Hamilton. We ordered the Siam Curry and Kungpow Chicken in addition to potstickers and ginger salads (all were tremendous) but the curry specifically was some of the best I've had in the area. Huge portions for the price and extremely flavorful. The couple we were with got sushi and it was also fantastic. They were extremely pleased with their meals. Only downfall here were the drinks, they were expensive for what they were. They also made my martini incorrectly, which is concerning since it was a dirty martini.. only vodka and olive brine. However the server had it corrected immediately, and handled it wonderfully. The others ordered beer and bourbon on rocks, and both were very good. Stopped in for the Sunday brunch buffet yesterday and was blown away by the quality of the food. I started off with the eggs, French toast casserole, Chinese donuts, sausage and potatoes with onions. After that I got the shrimp and grits, vegetable lo mein with tso chicken and Hawaiian chicken and a couple crab rangoons. Everything I had was phenomenal but the French toast casserole and shrimp & grits were my favorite. We got the bottomless mimosas as well which were good. They put a decent amount of alcohol in them unlike most places that serve bottomless mimosas. The buffet is upstairs which is just as nice as the main floor. The atmosphere is great and the decorations are very classy as well. All the tables and the serving area was very clean (hard for a buffet). The waiters were very nice and very attentive, I never had to ask for a refill or my next mimosa which is very important to me when it comes to service. I've never been to basil and left disappointed. All of their dishes are delicious, their sushi options are also pretty good. Alcohol is a bit pricey but they have specials on wine and beer most of the time. One big thing is portion sizes.. they give you so much food. This is a great little place to go if you want upscale Asian food. The prices are adequate and fair. The atmosphere is old school with a modern twist. The food was very good it had the proper amount of spice to it and flavor. The staff was friendly and prompt. They had a really nice selection of beer and wine. My only complaint was that the restaurant smelled like someone was smoking in the back room and it was all wafting into the dining area. I'll definitely give this place a shot again. Kudos to the entire staff. Went for Easter brunch food was excellent. The biscuits and gray was the bomb. I'm not a cherry person but that cherry berry cobbler oh my. Basil 1791 is a great addition to the very limited sit-down restaurant scene in Hamilton. Their menu is absolutely huge with items ranging from sushi to burgers to various Thai entrees. They are currently in their soft opening stage, so check their Facebook page for updates and hours. My husband and I stopped in for lunch and decided on the crab rangoons, drunken noodles, and the Singapore noodles. The crab rangoons were just okay, so I would definitely want to try another appetizer when we return. Our main dishes were absolutely amazing and I would recommend either one! The drunken noodles had an amazing flavor and spice to them. We both love spicy foods, so this entree will be hard to beat. The Singapore noodles are not spicy at all and have more of a curry taste to them. The portion sizes are huge - definitely could split an entree with some sushi or appetizers and go home full! Basil has an updated menu that now has more non-asian food options. I've always loved the pad Thai but some in the group wanted a good ole burger (and Basils burgers are very good!). You still need to be cautious when ordering spice levels. I like a pretty spicy pad Thai, but they have no consistency when adding spice. I solved the problem by ordering the spice on the side so I can mix in my own. Also, the sushi chefs are the best - the spicy ahi tuna roll is really great! I was so excited for a fun date night with my boyfriend. Unfortunately the food was near inedible. The miso soup tasted like warm salt water, there were scales still on my yellowtail, the sushi didn't taste fresh, the fried rice tasted more like cinnamon than anything?, out waitress rolled her eyes at us and only gave me part of my order, the pork in the potstickers tasted rancid and was crunchy, and the general tsos chicken and lo mein left a lot to be desired. 60 dollars for terrible food and a terrible experience. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! Almost every time we have ordered from this restaurant they get it wrong. They forget to give us our sushi, or the order is wrong, and they have randomly completely cancelled our order and did not contact us to correct it. The food is overpriced for what it is. The interior is lovely and we were seated in a booth which was cozy and private for our group. Service was not great. Business was brisk with a couple of large parties which may have had an impact our experience. Our appetizers came out late and it was clear they had been sitting under a lamp for quite a while. My vegetarian eggroll was good but I've never had heated sweet and sour sauce or heated mustard with an egg roll. The server missed the order of crab rangoons and when reminded, they arrived after our entree. I ordered the mango stir fry with tofu. There was too much tofu in the dish. So much tofu! I like tofu! I expected a more veg-forward dish for the mango stirfy but that is not what I was given. The big bowls of food came with cold rice that was meant to be hot and no serving spoon, it was very hard to put the delicious sauce on my rice. Fresh rice and a spoon were requested and arrived promptly but I still had to eat quickly to catch up to the rest of the group who were almost finished eating. The last round of drink refills was delayed as the restaurant had run out of glasses. It was easy to see why when I looked at our table which had not been cleared at all, there was a fleet of empties waiting to be picked up. The experience would have been much improved if large groups were staffed better, the server trained to never leave the table empty handed, and the stir fry better balanced with vegetables and not focused so heavily on tofu. read more
