Bomb food good vibes come here and eat !!! I'll be eating here everyday while I'm in town.

Great place to grab some sushi, stir-fry, or even a burger or other "American" fare.

This restaurant is just okay. Hamilton does not have a lot to choose from. I thought food tasted like it had been frozen. I have had a lot better sushi also. Staff were very friendly. read more

We have been looking forward to seeing what this "New to Hamilton" restaurant would bring to the area. What a pleasant surprise! The food was delicious and the service on point. There is great variety on the menu, including some non-Asian dishes. We enjoyed it so much we've already been there twice this week My husband has appreciated the Sushi and Sashimi platter and the red curry, while I reveled in the Shanghai noodles (with a delightful lemon grass /Chili sauce as well as the Drunken noodles. The Thai egg rolls are NOT to be missed as well as the Seaweed salad (the Best version I've ever had anywhere). What a terrific addition to the blooming downtown Hamilton scene! read more

Nov. 9th, I attended a birthday celebration with a group and it was my first time there. I ordered a level 4 spice and it was way too hot on the szechuan. I am not a wimp when it comes to heat but it was ridiculously hot. My boyfriend, who ordered a level 5 the previous time he was there ate the leftovers that I had and even told me that my level 4 was hotter than the level 5 that he had ordered the previous visit. That was disappointing but not the reason for the one star. If it was only that, I would have given a 3 star. Our party was maybe 20-30 people. We were charged the standard gratuity for large parties and that was fine. Then we noticed an additional charge the same amount as our added gratuity and it was called a service charge. All of the people in our party were charged this and many paid without looking at their bill. I questioned it and my server did not know what it was. He got another guy to look at it and that guy had to go ask the manager what happened. Turns out we were charged for a banquet and they blamed it on some sort of computer glitch. So our service charge was $12 and some change (same as the gratuity). Did they offer to refund? No. They gave us a 10 dollar gift card! So they basically stole $2 and some change from us AND we are from out of state so it is highly unlikely we will be driving an hour to go someplace where the food was so hot it was inedible. If I had been there without a group, I would have insisted that we get our money back but I did not want to be the one to make a scene at someone else's party with people that I barely knew. They ripped us off. Shame. read more

Sometimes a special occasion dinner ends up being not quite so special and other times it approaches a total loss. Our evening out to celebrate Valentine"s Day would have been a total loss if not for the graciousness of Basil 1791 manager, Monica. We have enjoyed fine meals at Basil 1791 in the past and will most certainly give them another opportunity to shine. Thank you Monica for stepping up and addressing our concerns. We'll see you again soon! read more

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Food is fantastic service is even better. The food is out of this world 100% recommend.

Love the vibe, ambience and service with the exception of the reception at the door. I have heard the sushi is very good but I was not in the mood for sushi and opted for the hot and sour soup and green shrimp curry. The soup was not amongst the best I have ever had and I guess since it is a fusion restaurant it would explain the piece of a rigatoni noodle I found in the soup. The curry was amongst the poorest I have had: thin, under seasoned and the veggies mainly consisted of green beans, diced carrots and peas. There was a few bamboo shoots and red pepper and onion pieces mixed in as well. Given the consistency of the size of the green beans and diced carrots I suspect they may be prepackaged and processed. I can say the shrimp was cooked to perfection and the wine was good. I wish I could give a better review but since this is based on a single visit you still might want to give it a try. But I suggest you avoid the green curry. read more

Inept customer service. Called ahead for reservation, asked to leave message and no one returned call. Went anyway to be told not taking walk-ins. Yet, numerous empty tables. Will not put effort into trying again. read more

Food was satisfactory but service was horrible- worse than any I have ever experienced in my life at any restaurant. Orders were messed up. Waitress was rude and condescending. At one point she just lifted a plate of food that had been brought for us and move it to someone else's table. Nonsensical and rude. One other guy that came to serve water said all i do is serve water and i do what they tell me to do. Food was ok but one that you get at any Thai or Asian restaurant, nothing super special or extra ordinary. It took more than one hour to get the order and then the food was cold. Spoilt the entire evening for us. I will not be stepping into this place ever again. read more

I'm still thinking about my meal days after....I ordered the Green Mango Grouper and can't wait to go back and have it again. I was torn between two entrees and was pleased that the waitress was engaged enough to help me choose based on her recommendation. It was perfectly cooked - lightly battered and fried - with shredded mango, red pepper and a deliciously light sauce for dipping the grouper. The flavor pairing and creativity was amazing. Service was on point, which made the experience even better. I'm thrilled to have a restaurant of this caliber so close to home. read more

Great variety of food. The Pho and Pad Thai were great! Service was quick and friendly.

We were not impressed. The waiter was not trained. Our food came out with the soup and entrees together. The Salt and Pepper calamari was mostly breading as was the supposed garlic grouper, which could have been any type of fish. My fried rice had only rice, peas, and carrots, no bean sprouts, celery, or anything else. The pork was cut in big chunks, difficult to eat. Portions were large but I'm afraid they are going for quantity instead of quality. We won't be back. read more

Great atmosphere. Service was on point and very pleasant. The menu was diverse enough to please a group of six and the entrees were outstanding! read more

I was so excited to come for my first meal here and everything was wonderful until my meal came 15 minutes after everyone else's meal when essentially done. Although apologetic they offered no free drink, dessert or the meal taken off my bill. It's just a matter of principle. Sad that I won't be back. read more

Really good food with great presentation! Waitress was amazing, and my curry was delicious. Great addition to the Hamilton revitalization.

The food, as usual , was amazing. Service tonight was poor. I specifically identified food allergies at the beginning of our visit. The waitress told me what I was considering did not have the things I was allergic to. She said it did not and proceeded to bring me a dish with the stated allergens. She then offered a dressingless salad. No attempt to modify the check or compensate for all the errors was made. My friend told her her tea pot was leaking. She made no effort to help with this either. I would still return but was definitely disappointed with the service. read more

The sushi was delicious!...too bad the overall experience was very bad. Waiting in line as we entered (one person answering phones, seating people and bussing tables), despite having reservations. It seems the four parties in front of us...and the four parties behind us...also had reservations...at the same time. Clearly short/understaffed all around tonight and there were always 8 -10 open tables and a couple tables outside. Finally sat, greeted in 33 seconds by someone bustling by (manager?). Greeted by server 5 minutes later, 11 minutes later server is back for drink/app order (time to wash my hands - Truckstop quality men's room)....8 minutes later server is back for our dinner order...no drinks yet...5 minutes later, drinks arrive....7 minutes later apps (sushi) arrive...Sushi was delicious!-Decided to end on a high note and just get the check... read more

Everything here is fine. Food is average, service is below average, menu is too large for anything to be spectacular. Went twice and was exceedingly disappointed both times. Just stay home, save some money, and order takeout. read more

We were there Wednesday night May 16, 2018. 2 of us shared the Phoenix sushi roll (tuna & salmon), very good, and also had the Thai Seafood Soup for 2, which was excellent, with great portions of shrimp, mussels, and crab meat in a very spicy light broth. Those are 3 seafood items that can easily be overcooked, but were cooked to perfection here. We are going back for that. Moo goo gai pan stir fry was very good, but after that spicy soup seemed a little plain. Pepper steak stir fry was excellent with a generous amount of tender beef with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms in a dark brown sauce. White rice for both entrees was nicely done and served in covered metal bowls on the side. All that plus one drink from the bar each for a total of $61. Dinner portions were large and with both brought home just under 1/2 the entrée each. It was kind of a splurge night so the bill was fine for all we got. Extensive menu, should be something for everyone here, including American, Thai, Chinese, and Indian selections. Waitress recommended Lemon Curry, which I will try on next visit. She said the seafood soup was very popular, and now we know why. Only 4 stars instead of 5 because I'm hypercritical of waiter/waitress skills from an earlier career. I expect good timing of the courses and dirty dishes to be cleared promptly. Courses were rushed, arriving while we were still working on the prior one. It's a timing thing between wait staff and kitchen that isn't that hard. The restaurant was busy and I know table turnover is the key to profit, but the diners should not be rushed from one course to the next. The great restaurants usually give you a few minutes break between courses. In a place with a bar that usually helps to sell more drinks, too. We'll be back. read more

Great Sushi and Chef, however the service was awful. The bartender was rude, slow, missing, and down right pathetic. Would come anytime for the food but they need some pointers on service. read more

Went to Basil last night for dinner. We had reservations and we were seated right away. It took 20 minutes for our waiter to show up and take our drink order (the restaurant was a little busy but not that busy). The meal tasted wonderful but there was an issue with the order and the waiter took it upon himself to make a decision that should have been our decision. After the meal, I looked at the amount of the bill and gave him my credit card. He brought the charge receipt back but with a much higher amount charged to my card. He had given me the wrong bill and took it upon himself to run my card for the correct amount without bringing the faux pas to my attention first. He had also double billed me and my guest for the same item that we had ordered one of. Correcting this took several attempts. The waiter was very condescending and I could tell he was irritated with us. I will never go back and sit in his section again. read more
