Basic Cut is a small barbershop located in the International District. It is co-located in a space shared with a gift and stationery shop, Zakka-Ya. If you are coming here on a Monday or Tuesday, you must knock on the door to access the barbershop as Zakka-Ya is not open on those days. This is because Basic Cut is located upstairs within Zakka-Ya. The barbershop prices are very affordable. I got a men's haircut here for $23 plus tip which is a good deal since I am used to paying $30+ plus tip for a haircut on the Eastside unless I am going to a Great Clips. Note this is a one-person barber so I would suggest coming on a slower day like Monday or Tuesday or scheduling an appointment ahead of time if you don't want to wait. Given the price and the quality of the cut that I received here, I would return to Basic Cut for a future haircut. read more

No frills, cheap, and a great haircut most importantly! Really recommend it and it's a bit quieter on the weekends.

Kim runs this one-person barber operation for 20+ years and she knows what she is doing. I love the ability to just sit at her chair and chat. With her practicality focused and very Asian-style decor, she is an open book who would share her life story in a wise-person-sharing-their-wisdom way. Despite Kim being very chatty, she is also a very good listener. I showed her a picture of what I was looking for and she was able to immediately map out what to do in her mind and ask clarification questions for my preference and at the same time offer her suggestions with reasoning. My hair has been tricky for most western trained barbers/stylists but not for Kim. When I was there, four more customers showed up and were waiting in line. Her skill was obviously validated! If you're looking for a professional haircut without all the extra products and service, Kim is your person! I will be a regular! read more

She really didn't ask me what I wanted other than to ascertain the hair length I desired. She gave what "all guys want these days." But in the end, it turned out good, a testament to her skill. And she did it with great skill, in about 10 minutes, too. For Asian men, this is a good place: no nonsense, with minimal concern for Fashion and What's Hip. read more

Walked in and was able to get a haircut right away. The owner was very friendly and efficient. She knows what she is doing.

Mrs.Kim has magical hands. With $20, she gives you clean and stylish cut. Again, like its name, it's basic cut. Give her a picture of how you want your hair done, she ELEVATES it. Again, good find on Yelp! read more

I got my haircut for the first time since the pandemic started. Kim was a great choice! My hair was super long and I wanted to keep it long but needed to clean it up. I showed her a picture of Han from the Fast and Furious franchise and she nailed it. Really happy with my cut, the price, and experience. She is a wonderful conversationalist and is an ID OG. She's owned and operated this shop for 19 years. Love to support local Asian owned businesses. Check it out! read more

No nonsense, just a good haircut at very reasonable price. Tina is efficient and detailed oriented. She spent just the right amount of time to get my cut right. While most barbers in the area charge over $45 for a cut these days, Tina charges $17. I tipped her $8 because she deserves it. Go see Tina. read more

Great haircut for boy cut. Exactly like we wanted from showing a photo. Better than many other salons we have tried and great price. Good enough for any picture day right after, no need to wait for anything to grow out. Most importantly, the haircut recipient was very happy which is rare for us. Highly recommend. read more

If you're seeking a no frills, basic haircut, at a decent price, look no further. I've had my hair cut by Kim a few times, and always pleased with the results. She's super fast, efficient, thoughtful and engaging. "You're gonna like the way you look...." Thank you! read more

Since I'm in Seattle for a few months, I had to find a reasonably priced barber. I stumbled upon Basic Cut when I Googled "International District Barber." I'm glad this establishment came up. It's located on Jackson Street. You knock on the door and someone will admit you to go upstairs. She was efficient and didn't rush her craft. It was shorter than I'm use to, but others told me it looked great. The price was $19, but knowing how much I saved, I gave her $25. I'll be back. read more

I needed a haircut before I flew back home to Maryland, and came here based on the good reviews here on Yelp. Kim was fantastic; I showed her a picture of me pre-pandemic and she worked her magic. My hair is not easy to work with... It is thick and dense, and very straight. It's even harder to deal with when I haven't cut it in a year and a half. It was no problem for Kim! She has been cutting hair for over 20 years. I got a great cut at a great price. Highly recommend for an Asian mens haircut! read more

Kim gives wonderful cuts. She has been doing my hair for ten years.

Kim did a great job with my haircut! She provided fast service and a clean space. I will be a regular from here on out. Thank you Kim!

The lady (I guess her name is Kim) is very professional and understands what style would make you look good. She did a great job and it's just $14 for a basic haircut. Definitely recommended, the shop is very basic but nicely managed. read more

Kim is an expert at Male Haircuts! She is professional and kind. I've been back 3 times now. She cuts really fast but her attention to detail is amazing. I really really like my haircuts from her. Definitely check her out! Would recommend to anyone needing a haircut. Ohh and by the way its probably the most cost effective haircut you can get in this town. read more

Affordable job well done. She did a very precise and meticulous job. Very nice lady to boot!

I have been going to Kim for over ten years and she always does an excellent job cutting my hair. Kim is a very hard worker and always makes sure I get a good haircut. The shop is a bit odd (on the second floor and you sometimes need to knock on the door) but it is well worth it. read more

i came in asking for a long hair LAYERED hair cut. i gave her an image on how to do my hair and she not only cut my hair short without notifying me that she has to cut it short, ( mind you my hair was at half of my back, and my hair currently is up to shoulder length) but she made my hair really uneven. one side is way longer than the other side attempting to give out the "layers". if she cannot do it, i would've liked her to confront me about it before she messed up my hair. instead, i wasted my money and time getting there. now my hair is fucked up because of her so i definitely do not recommend getting your haircut here. read more

My favorite place in Seattle to get a simple hair cut. Never any wait and she does a good job. No frills of course. Best budget hair cut in town ($12 + tip) She cuts my daughters hair as well and is good with kids. She is located in the loft/upstairs area above a fortune teller shop in Chinatown. read more

Kim is so sweet and so great at cutting hair. I come from San Jose and would say she cuts as well as others in that area. I would totally come back here again! I got a classic combover with a side part. Clean lines and even fade. read more

A real gem in Seattle's ID. Lan the proprietor is a great person and her story is what has made America great

Great pricing, very fast and overall great experience. Would recommend if you're looking for a simple haircut.

No complaints, nice lady who knows how to cut hair! Price best in town and that's after tipping too. read more

Nice gal. Always friendly. Very reasonable price. Kind of hidden in the ID. Definitely worth a try. read more

Kim is a good barber! She offers basic haircuts like the name implies but she does them very well. Very friendly and sweet. Prices are very reasonable and service is exceptionally fast. Be advised, no credit, only cash. You also have to knock on the door and she will let you in. read more

Kim is awesome, she always gives a great haircut and is cheaper than any other place!

Very nice lady, fast service, reasonable price. A bit hard to find since it's hidden inside a fortune telling shop. I took my 12 months old son and she did a great job! Best value in Seattle if you are looking for a simple decent hair cut. read more

NOT CLOSED. I went earlier this month. Excellent haircut as usual, at a very reasonable price. read more

Great place to get a cut without all the corporate gimmicks like the chain shops. The lady that cut my hair was super nice and had been in the neighborhood for years. I had read the reviews first so I knew to bring cash. It was only $11 and I gave her an extra $3 because I look so young and handsome now. It would have been 5 stars if they accept credit cards. read more

Great conversation with the owner and quality cut. Full shave and haircut for $14. Cash only.

NOT CLOSED! Super cheap cut ($12 for a basic men's), pretty good and fast, and she's very nice.

I really like this place. You get a good basic haircut and a very reasonable price. The shop itself is nice and the lady who runs it friendly. Pretty sure it's cash only so remember to bring some with you. read more
