The first company I called I asked if he did repairs or only replacement systems. He said, "I do repairs. That's why it's in the name!" "Great!" I thought. When he checked our system he told me the compressor was bad, which was expected. I asked if he could replace it with a new or reconditioned compressor, but he said no, because the system was about 10 years old and used an older refrigerant. He said the only option wasto replace the entire system. He also said we had an asbestos-wrapped pipe that would need to be removed by another company before he could do the work. He offered to get me in contact with that company, but never did, even after I followed up. So, in the meantime I decided to call Mike's Air. It was late on a Friday. We had Slava out by Monday. He checked the system, confirmed the compressor was bad, and gave me a very different answer: yes, the compressor could be replaced. He was straightforward about the pros and cons of buying an entirely new system vs just replacing the compressor. No selling. Just facts. The price for replacement was very reasonable compared to a full system, so I figured it only has to last about 4 years for it to pay off vs buying a new system now. I gave the deposit and about a week later the compressor arrived. Slava came out the very next day -- on a Saturday -- and installed it. Everything is working again and we couldn't be happier. Not just cuz we saved money (short-term), but I felt confident that Slava was doing a professional job. What impressed me most was that Slava/Mike's Air actually gave us a repair option instead of automatically pushing a full replacement. Slava was knowledgeable, straightforward and professional throughout the entire process, as was Rhea back at Mike's. Highly recommended.

They installed a new AC system for me. Installation crew spoke little to no English and could not explain the use and programming of the smart thermostat at all. A few days later, another of their technicians, Juan, came to the house to inspect the installation. He was busy patting himself on the back over some adjustments he made to the system, but then I asked him how to program the thermostat and explained some problem issues I had with it. Well, Juan couldn't program it or address my problems and he said he'd get back to me after speaking with the manufacturer. He never got back to me. So I called the company a few days later and was transferred to Lorraine. She was up the food chain somewhat, so I felt better about this. I explained the issues to her and she claimed to be scheduling a service call for me as we spoke, but I never heard anything on that. A follow-up text to Lorraine days later got no response. I called the company again and was transferred to Sarah. I provided another explanation of the problem and she asked if they installed the thermostat. I answered "yes" then did not hear from her again. After six days, I texted her back to ask if they at all intended to help and just say "no" if they don't. She said "of course" and offered to send someone over but first wanted to send me a "cheat sheet" for programming. She emailed it to me and it proved much less detailed than the owner's manual, so no help there. I text replied to Sara someone should come out to see the thermostat and asked if they had other compatible thermostats I could switch too. Eight days later, there was yet another period of "no response", so I gave up with them. I had another company over (Family Air Conditioning of Simi Valley and certified for the make of my system) and they called the manufacturer and made some adjustments to the system. She was sold a complete replacement instead,to this day nobody has produced a written diagnosis of the original unit or explained why a warranty repair wasn't attempted. When I started going through the paperwork, here's what I found. The signed contract never names the manufacturer or the model. It lists an internal product code and nothing else. A Lennox was shown during the in-home sales presentation; we took a picture of it also. A Midea was installed, and the model number first appears on the invoice issued after the work was already finished. Their own contract states, under the 5-Year Comfort Guarantee, "After performing a heat loss and heat gain calculation, we guarantee for 5 years that it will heat or cool as stated below." I requested that calculation in writing on July 3 and again on July 29. It has never been produced. The contract also includes required CA Title 24 HERS Testing. No certificate for that either. The invoice lists completion on July 3. The city permit wasn't issued until July 6. The system is running consistently, and we have asked them to come out to fix it but there has been zero response to phone calls or emails. On July 3, Installation Coordinator Elvira Dominguez wrote that they would "prepare a written response addressing each of your numbered questions individually." I've sent detailed written requests on July 29, August 5, and several times since. We've called 4 times and twice been promised a callback that never came. There has been no substantive response since July 15. A complaint is on file with the Contractors State License Board. I would not suggest using them with their bait and switch tactics and that there was no real reason to replace the unit. If you could not fix it, stop at that, not that it's able to be fixed, especially since it was under warranty.

We were new homeowners and had only moved in for less than a month when our AC unit went out. It…read morewas an ancient unit that certainly needed replacement, but when we called The Right Choice, they arrived with the pushiest, sleaziest salesman you could imagine. He immediately insisted (more like demanded) that we needed new ducts as well as a new system. When I told him that we wanted a unit with a higher SEER rating for energy efficiency and lower electric bills, he dismissed my suggestion as if I was stupid for even asking about it. My guess is that they have some sort of deal with Goodman, because that is the brand that they forced on us. What was the grand total you ask? Over $20,000. And that was 8 years ago! Not only did they NOT replace all of the ducts (like they said they would) their installation was the most Mickey Mouse-looking trash I have ever seen. They must have put at least 5 pounds of mastic tape around the unit to try and seal it up and it still leaked cold air after a week of use. These are scam artists masquerading as professionals. Even after that ordeal was over, they would call us constantly, year after year, telling us we needed to pay for a tech to come out and service our system. Besides hosing off our compressor unit with our own garden hose, the only thing their tech ever did was aggressively try to sell us on more services. They never once opened up the unit to clean the coils. They never once topped off the coolant. They never even cleaned out the condensate pipe. 8 years later and I am paying the price with outrageous cooling bills, a leaky unit that is more mastic than air conditioner, and a clogged condensate line that I had to clean out myself (it took about 5 minutes once I had the right tool). Do not let these people into your home. There is a reason that you see so many one-star reviews among the four and five-star ones. Do not disregard those reviews (they are real people). This company will take advantage of anybody who is not particularly knowledgeable about HVAC. They are pushy and rude; they will try to sell you products and services that you do not need. They will continue to harass you with phone calls for years afterwards. Stay away. Stay far, far away.
