Beautiful cake made by Shaid in the Bakery Dept
    Lana L.

Shaid in the Baker Department is my go to for my kids birthday cakes! I usually go in a week before and show her a few photos of what I'm looking for and she always nails it! Not only do her cakes look beautiful, they are also yummy!! You can even choose fillings like fresh strawberry jam, cookies and cream, and cream cheese! Shaid is so sweet and beyond talented!

Bashas again teamed up St. Vincent Dean Paul and 12 News for their annual Turkey Tuesday! I never knew this event existed. My mom was watching the news and gave me a call. Different vendors were out supporting the event. At the west valley Surprise location they had awesome live music, Surprise police and fire, Lengendary Martial Arts, Spruce Mobil Banking, Trend Booths, Eatz n Treatz, The Sanctuary for Animals - Phoenix Herpetology Society, Spencer's Place, and The Office Toolbox. These vendors offered treats and crafts for the kids. Our girls made bookmakers, paper bag turkeys, and thanks to Bashas decorate huge turkey cookies with colored frosting and sprinkles. Theybreally put a lot into it. Inside Bashas they had turkeys for 79 cents a pound. They were not priced as that and I don't think most people realized that. The $30 turkeys I picked out only ended up being $13 a piece so we went back for more. When checking out you can donate to provide more turkeys amd food boxes. When donating you can fill out a feather and place it on the turkey and are welcome to a free pumpkin pie. A lot of people really put a lot of time. So appreciated and neat when people come together who care. This store is a hot spot in the afternoon as everyone is swinging in after work as if it was a convenient store. The bakery is full of beautiful baked goods. Their rolls are some of my husband's local favorites.

I do like that Basha's is a smaller grocery store but however due to their current remodeling I was hoping that they might have more of a better selection. But my favorite thing here is their hot foods selection. They have the best breakfast burrito! This thing is huge! When I get it I eat half for breakfast and the other half for lunch...you get my drift that's how big it is. They have awesome fish as well. The Mac and cheese is super creamy and delicious too. The mash potatoes however are too runny and have some what of a lemon taste. I think they need to work on those. Oh and don't forget to check out their donuts also one of my favorites. Those are heavy but wow so good!

I can find my basic dairy, grains, produce and meats here for a good price, and shop for organic or health trend, and fun seasonal and specialty items for food, pets, sundries, the home, and gifts. They even have custom gift cards here for ~$1. Their floral selection is excellent with low prices. One thing that I do find has been true of Trader Joe's is the small parking lots. Luckily for us customers, they seem to be changing that lately. This location in Surprise on Grand has a large private, shared parking lot. There's a coffee grinder available if you want to grind your whole beans, restrooms for customers, a find-the-hidden-object game for kids, and stickers for kids. The checkers and staff at Trader Joe's are famously friendly and encouraged to wear quirky attire. Each register has a large brass bell to ring for assistance. End caps and posters are displayed using artsy chalk script with illustrations. Each store is customized for its geographical location. This is just a fun and unique place to supplement your normal grocery haul or pick up a gift. Beware - it gets crazy busy during holidays so plan ahead.

They have transportation available, but some still need extra help getting around, and the rides often cancel or are late. So I have a few ladies I shop for or take shopping. Their local Fry's off of Grand by them, but it is crowded and not as aesthetically pleasing. I started taking them to this beautiful Fry's in SunCity. I had put some cases of soda in my cart and thought I had read the discount tag correctly. Upon checking out, I didn't see the discount I expected. One of the staff members saw my puzzled expression as I scrutinized my receipt unaware that he was watching me. He kindly asked if there was something he could help me with. Sheepishly I explained the discount I expected. He acknowledged my concern and said that actually I needed to buy 3 cases and I would get 3 cases free. Since I had 3 cases in my cart, he took me back to the shelf to collect 3 more cases and show me the discount tag again. He explained that I needed to have all 6 cases scanned so that the discount would be applied. Since I had already made my purchase, he allowed me to take the 3 extra cases and he wrote on my receipt that I was due a refund of a specific amount and that he authorized the refund. Customer service was closed because it was late at night. He said I could return with my receipt to collect the amount I overpaid. Wow! So many things were remarkable about this interaction. First, I was actually mistaken about the discount. It was different than I had expected, but still a better deal than I realized. Second, the staff member approached me and offered to help me. Third, he actually worked hard to make the transaction happen while I was there. Most store associates would not have done any of the above. That one interaction won me over as an Albertsons customer. Anytime I'm in Surprise, AZ, I will definitely do my shopping at that location. Unfortunately, I live in another state where I don't have an Albertsons nearby. If you do, consider yourself lucky!
