Hard to believe that my last review here was over four years ago. Things have changed a little…read moresince then, but it's still a cool place. I have cut back on my beer drinking, so it has been a while since I was here last. The impetus for today's visit was to try out the "On the Hook" Fish & Chips Food Truck. I had heard that "Steve & Benny's," the restaurant that shares the same space as the brewery, recently closed. In the interim, Recon has been hosting a variety of food trucks until they find someone to re-open the kitchen. I enjoyed an "Ease his Pain" NE IPA along with my fish and chips. The beer was very good (the fish and chips was just O.K.). Cheers!

This place was great!…read more I made a reservation online for a Friday afternoon by making a "event request" since I was arranging for a group of 8 people who were attending a burial ceremony nearby. They replied the next day with their condolences and confirmed that they would accommodate my request. We ended up needing to arrive early because the ceremony ended earlier than expected and everyone in our dining party loved about an hour away. So, we called to ask if that would be possible and they kindly agreed to seat us early/have our table ready. Upon arriving, the service was great; with our waitress providing prompt service and continuously checking-in on us (taking our order and refilling drinks). While we waited for our meals they provided us with complimentary homemade chips and dip. That was so nice, and we all enjoyed them! Our food was served about 30 minutes after ordering (which is pretty good given that it was for 8 people), and everything was as ordered. I enjoyed my meal (I had the chicken sandwich) as did everyone seated near me. I'd definitely recommend eating here as they definitely seem like genuinely nice people trying to provide a great experience for their patrons! (I didn't try any of the beers because I had an hour long drive ahead of me after a long day, but the food alone is worth stopping in for)

Bloody Mary w house mix pretty tasty, w nice garnishes for $9. Breakfast foods were yummy - another slice of Mediterranean multigrain toast would have been nice ( a single small slice not quite enough ) HUGE place w tons of indoor and outdoor seating. First of all the service by Mike couldn't be beat. He is friendly and efficient and introduced us to other regulars, which made it extremely comfortable. Loved the happy hour pricing on Prosecco on tap. Wish that they had some wine specials though. The food is always great. One person ordered the bang bang chicken bowl and loved it. Another ordered chicken fingers. I love their black bean cakes, so had them on top of my salad, which was also delicious. Prices are, in my opinion, moderate. With the exception of the chicken fingers, the food is considerably elevated bar food. Great food, great atmosphere, and warm and friendly service. Definitely on repeat.

Always packed, always impressive array of beer (one of the best breweries in region, IMO), and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. The site is so vast, there's never a shortage of seating, you just need to do a little bit of exploration to find a spot, but there's fun in that. Still trying to get to the upper command level - might need to head there during non-peak hours. Oh, I forgot to mention that each day/week there are a handful of beers and drinks that are super reasonably discounted - incredibly appreciated in the economic hellscape that is 2025.

The Millvale location is amazing, so I had to go check out the newish Grist House Command. First off, awesome spot. Absolutely massive. Great views, plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor. I liked the double bar set up, made grabbing a beer decently speedy. Beers were tasty as always, huge selection to choose from. One of the few Pittsburgh breweries that have a solid sour selection. Unfortunately, the food was absolutely terrible (details below): - Fresh Tortilla Chips: looks like a 10 year old sprinkled cheddar cheese over a pile of chips and microwaved it for a minute. This entire dish was a massive greasy congealed mess. The fact that they even serve this makes no sense. - Big Pretzel: the pretzel itself was actually really tasty, but the beer cheese was nasty. Terrible texture and extremely grainy. Tastes like someone dumped saw dust into this. Please find a new beer cheese recipe. - Command Style Dog: honestly not bad.... was it worth $7.50? Absolutely not. - Millvale Style Dog: has potential, but the chili is odd. The bun was mush before I even took my first bite. Overall, I'd give this place a 5/5 if it weren't for the food. I absolutely love Grist House, but someone needs to come in and fix the food menu asap.

Made my first visit to The Village TapHouse on a Wednesday evening this past August. I love any…read morekind of Bingo, and I saw on Facebook they were holding their monthly Bar Bingo on this night. So, I made my way on over. The Village TapHouse is located in the South Hills Village Mall area, but a little up the road from the actual mall. It is tucked away in the rear of the building located on the corner of Washington Road and North Highland Road. The business that is visible from the main intersection is Clubhouse Cards. If you follow North Highland past this entrance off of Washington, The Village TapHouse will be on your right. There is some limited parking right in front of the entrance. However, since there are a lot of other businesses around here, you can find other parking across the street or before the actual entrance, regardless of which direction. I had no issue getting a spot right across the street, and making the short walk over. I arrived that evening around 7:00 PM, as that is when the Bingo was slated to start. There were a good amount of people attending the event, as the indoor main dining area was pretty much full when I arrived! No issue for me though, as I was by myself. So, I found a seat at the bar. There were several other patrons sitting at the bar, but it was not shoulder-to-shoulder or anything like that. There is also some patio seating, but I do not believe the Bingo was heard out in that area. Once situated, I went up to buy my Bingo cards from the two hosts. They were set up in the main dining room, but were using microphones. I had no issue hearing them all night long from the bar. It was $10 for a pack of 3 cards, and I purchased 2 packs. They also had daubers for sale, but I brought my own to use. I waited around for the games to start once I bought my cards, which ended up being around 7:30 PM. It was also Pajama-themed Bingo, which I was unaware of until I arrived. This allowed you for a special perk for one of the games. I am not sure if they always do this, but I would advise participating in whatever theme is advertised to get the most out of your experience. There were a few bartenders serving this evening. The lady who waited on me was prompt and friendly the whole night. I started off with a pint of FireWistle Red. It was a solid red beer, and served as a nice sipper for my evening. As the Bingo went on, I decided to put in a food order. I ordered a Half Dozen Wings in the Chicken and Waffles Wet Rub. I thought this was a unique flavor, so I wanted to give it a try. I enjoyed the taste of these! They were split wings, but overall the size was serviceable. The plate also had several pieces of celery and ranch dressing to accompany the wings. The food here was fairly priced. For my 6 wings and beer pint, the total was around $15. It seemed from the menu that the majority of entrees were $15 or under, which I believe is a great deal. Overall, no complaints in terms of prices or value. I ended up staying here for nearly three hours in order to finish the Bingo games. So, I had plenty of time to take in the atmosphere. I enjoyed the people, staff, and the overall vibe of the place. The patrons were friendly, and the staff seem to recognize their regulars while having meaningful conversation. Plus, the Bingo games brought some fun and entertainment to the night overall. This first visit of mine to The Village TapHouse was a positive one. Very much enjoyed the people, atmosphere, food, and fun Bingo activities. I cannot believe with how close I live to here that it took me this long to give it a try. Now I am happy to know there is a spot like this practically in my backyard. I have seen on Facebook that they also have Trivia Nights, so that is something I want to check out in the future. Even though I did not win Bingo this time, it will not stop me from coming back and trying again. I would recommend stopping here for a meal, or a fun night of entertainment, if you find yourself in the South Hills Village area of town.
