I have been going to Barton Oaks for over 5 years now. Dr. Grimm is my dentist and Cindy is my hygienist. I like Dr. Grimm and was pleased with the filling I had to get from her at one point. For most of us, 90% of your time in the office is with the dental hygienist and Cindy is just great. She's careful, gentle, friendly, and puts me at ease in the chair. The office building they're in is convenient to downtown and south lamar. It's a classy office building and the view from their 4th floor office is calming as you look out above the treetops in the greenbelt. read more

Dr. Neeley is a fantastic dentist. The rest of the gang seem to be much more focused on profit over service. I was a customer of Dr. Neeley's for 20+ years. Recently, I got a bid from Barton Oaks Dental Group for a tooth extraction and prep for an implant. I was surprised by the estimated bill. I got a 2nd and 3rd bid. I ended up going to a dentist in Cedar Park and paying $1,000 rather than $2,500. The other estimate was for $1,200. Okay, so they are in Westlake, and most of their customers probably don't shop around, but this was silly. I have taken my business elsewhere. Much love to Doc Neeley. Less love to the pricing. Get an estimate first and then check around to see if you are paying a fair price. read more

I very much like my dentist, Dr Bradley, and hygienist, Cindy, though after a cleaning today, I was floored to learn they charged me 3 times the retail price for whitening bleach. I asked if they had any and they just placed in my bag and sent me on my way. After leaving the office I was called and told they forgot to charge me and it would be $78. That seemed excessive but I was caught off guard. Upon reflection, I searched the web and learned they'd charged me 3 times the retail price. Rather than apologizing, they sent a note saying i could be confident not an expired product. Then another that I could return if unopened. No acknowledgment of price gouging. They've shattered my trust. read more

I went to my dental appointment a little while ago to get my teeth cleaned. The sign on the door said "Mask wearing is optional in this office." I didn't think anything of it at the time. However, as I was filling out paperwork, I noticed that the front office staff wasn't wearing masks. So, it's optional for them as well. I'm fine with going into mask-optional places, because I can continue wearing a mask if I choose. But since this is a dental office, I have to remove my mask in order for them to clean my teeth. There is no other option. Which means I'm at the mercy of all those other people who opt to not wear a mask. I felt so threatened that I told the receptionist to cancel my appointment and left. I expect any medical office, especially dentists, to require their staff to wear masks, to avoid infecting others. So, if you don't care about mask wearing, this is a decent dental office. Unless I can find a dental office where everyone continues to mask, I won't be getting any dental work done until there are better COVID vaccines and better, more readily available treatments. read more

After having visited several doctors while shopping for an orthodontist, I found that not only was Dr. Nemeth and the staff at Barton Oaks Dental Group the worst experience I have had at a dental office, but that it was one of the most degrading experiences I have had recently. About my visit: Before even asking me what I was there for or looking at my x-rays, she started going through the motions of checking/counting my teeth and proceeded to tell me what I already knew (and what me and my x-rays could have told her). This took maybe 5 minutes and in the end, she told me that she wasn't even qualified to do my type of orthodontics. Billing: Afterwards, Dr. Nemeth didn't even say goodbye to me, but showed me to the counter to pay. The least they could have done was tell me pricing before I came in or at least say that consultations are something like 80 bucks. Or that they weren't actually going to do any work, but would just like my money - since that would have at least been honest. When the staff said they'd bill me later instead, they sure did. They even sent a 'hurry and pay' letter when I didn't mail back a check after receiving the bill. (I was out for Christmas, like many people in Texas). I received another bill after I paid as well, as if their life depended upon it. Conclusion: Perhaps I'm an exception as I'm sure other people may not have had the same experience as I did. However, the systematic (and what I would call 'shameless') nature of how they pursued money (rather than my dental issue, concerns, etc) told me something very different. For example: why am I on your spam-tastic mailing list and why would I want to be? Like many people, I do not have an issue with paying to get service and healthy teeth, and on a side note: many dentists offer free consultation, and not only that, but would freely offer pricing information, even when not asked. Dr Nemeth and Barton Oaks were very unprofessional in that regard, and if the Invisalign website had not posted their office info, then I would never have gone. Several deserving dentists that live and/or operate in town also offer Invisalign and if you are interested in it, you don't need to go here. Slightly unobjective, personal conclusion: Absolute shameless robbery by a bunch of con artist. This place seriously felt like a scam and I wouldn't even recommend this place for the most evil of people. read more

I will start off by saying, the services I had done by Dr. Grimm were wonderful. She is great and conservative with her treatment methods. HOWEVER, the issue I have is concerning the billing side of things. I'm a recent college grad and had an original quote from another dentist for $1,500 worth of work. Seeing as I couldn't pay that, my coworkers highly recommended me to come here, even though my dental insurance was out-of-network. Barton Oaks received my treatment plan from the other dentist and were aware of the situation. For the work Dr. Grimm said I needed done, I was roughly quoted out-of-network at $300ish(can't remember the exact number). The quote was based off of the same services someone else had previously done there with the same insurance plan I have. I had the work done and ended up paying $447.90 - no complaints. Flash forward a month, I receive a bill in the mail for ADDITIONAL $438 for my services(with $77 already reduced by the office for the bill). My work was TOTAL $885.90, almost TRIPLE the amount I was quoted. Yes, you read that correctly- triple. Had I known I was going to be billed this much, I would've gotten another opinion. After calling the billing department to see what was going on, I was told that the information my quote was based off of was filed incorrectly for the previous patient, therefore, I have an $885.90 bill. They called my insurance company, and apparently there was nothing that could be done. The only way the office is working with me is by setting up a payment plan for the next 10 months to pay off the remaining balance, which I appreciate. What I don't appreciate is being a college grad and paying $885.90. Whatsoever. If your dental insurance is out-of-network, go elsewhere. read more

By far my best experience with any dental group. Dr. Hayashi is my dentist and he is friendly, considerate, and, of course, does a great job on my teeth! I appreciate his follow up calls to make sure I'm feeling okay. The staff is great - appointments are easy, wait time is less than 5 minutes, and I'm always greeted with a smile. I have been going to Barton Oaks for about two years. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nemeth and the staff at Barton Oaks. Everyone is so friendly. Dr. Nemeth only recommends things you need and she does not pressure you at all. Overall this is a very conservative dental office; they will not try and sell you a whole bunch of bells and whistles for your mouth. They are excellent at appointment confirmation, have little to no lobby waiting time and the facilities are clean/up-to-date. read more

Dr. Grimm is phenomenal - friendly, comforting and does quality work. Best dentist I've had! I've been a patient for about three years and I've had a couple cleanings, x-rays and a crown. Dr. Grimm put my nerves at ease and made sure I was comfortable throughout my procedure. Their pricing is on the higher end (I guess you get what you pay for), and they could do a better job of setting cost expectations upfront. My fiancé has recently made several visits for fillings, etc. and each time, Dr. Hayashi calls in the evening to check in and leaves his cell phone in case you are experiencing any pain or discomfort. My experience with Barton Oaks Dental Group has been outstanding! I've only seen one dentist within the group, Dr. Dora Nemeth, DDS. She is not only a lovely person, she is an extremely thorough dentist with outstanding expertise. From my initial visit, she consulted thoroughly with me regarding my requests and concerns, and in no way attempted to up-sell me other products and/or services as was my experience at another dental practice. I received treatment with Invisalign braces and Dr. Nemeth's combined treatment with the people at Invisalign has resulted in beautifully straight teeth, just exactly what I asked for!! I've also seen 3 of the dental hygienists at Barton Oaks Dental Group, they are all wonderful and do a terrific job. My total experience with Barton Oaks Dental has been delightful. Not only are the dental services top-notch, everyone there from the dentist down to the receptionist are professional, prompt, helpful, kind and considerate. This place is all about the money. If you glance through the reviews, you'll find various complaints about unnecessary services, unexpected charges and the like. For me, after nearly a decade of going to Barton Oaks Dental -- the services were nothing special but the office was close to my house -- I ran up against the tension between patient well being and cash. I do not believe in having x-rays every single year. Dental standards of care are evolving to support me on this. I just never believed that the risks of additional radiation exposure into my head were justified by the probable minor changes in the state of my mouth over the course of a single year. Every other year was often enough. When I was in for my check up the last time, they wanted to take x-rays and I politely declined. I'd had them 11 months before. They then presented me with a long, legal document absolving the practice of all responsibility for outcomes of dental care because of my unwillingness to undergo the annual x-ray. I said I would be happy to sign a document stating that I'd declined the x-ray, but the legal indemnification they were asking me to sign was far too broad. I did not wish to to sign it. At this point, Dr. Grimm replied: "This is no longer the right practice for you. We will not continue with you as a patient." Well, okay. She was quite right. A practice that puts $$$$ and unnecessary services ahead of quality, patient welfare and patient desires is absolutely not the right place for me or my family. Or yours. Go elsewhere. read more

Just had my visit at Barton Oaks Dental Group, and I was impressed with the overall experience. For starters, there was hardly any time wasted in the waiting room. I got in, filled some new patient paperwork and minutes later, I found myself seated in the chair getting worked on by the hygienist Dr. Hayashi then came in to asses my teeth, which he proved to be extremely helpful in explaining exactly what I needed. But the most surprising part of my visit was that he actually returned after I had paid for the visit to figure out the next steps in treating my teeth. I've never experienced this kind of quality service from a dentist's office and I highly recommend their services to any new Austinites needing to find a new dentist. read more

I wish they would check my insurance benefits prior to my visit. I went in for a routine cleaning and they added fluoride without asking me. I ended up having to pay for it. Before paying the bill, I received call after call from them asking me to pay the bill. The paper bill was returned to them because I moved. Although I did mention to them that I moved during my visit and they didn't make the change. Other than that this place is awesome. The receptionist desk is friendly after they realize that I'm waiting. Everyone else is friendly as well. But I think that I'm going to find another place. They also convinced me to buy an expensive night guard that was not beneficial at all. Caused me more pain. read more

Three strikes -- One: dental hygienist (temping for my regular hygienist) was alone and there was no assistance available to dictate dental pocket measurements. It took 20 excruciating minutes while she double and tripled checked her work vs. previous chart. Typically, this portion of visit doesn't take more than 5 minutes. Two: As a patient (they call us 'dental clients' now) I've never held the water suction wand before during dental cleaning. Ever. Poor hygienist, she had only two hands so I was happy to offer a third. Three: Parking is even more painful than dental visit. Took ten minutes to find a parking space. Had to drive all the way up to the roof in the middle of a downpour. PS: Above describes today's visit only. Barton Oaks have been my dentists for last five years and I have no intention of going elsewhere. read more

I've driven across town for almost 10 years just to see Dr. Hayashi and his fabulous hygieniest Cindy. They're that good. They suggest only necessary treatments and patiently wait while it may or may not take you almost 10 years to finally agree to fixing your crossbite with Invisalign. Their friendly, honest communication makes it easy to trust them, and the office is always so pleasant to visit -- which says a lot considering you're going to the dentist. I have been going to this dental office for four years now - I've had a lot of difficult dental issues and have received excellent care at Barton Oaks Dental Group. My two dentists have been Dr. Neeley and Dr. Hayashi. They've both been really thorough and get me in if there's an emergency. I can actually say I like them because they're gentle and they care about their patients. I used to be very afraid of the dentist's office but after finding these guys I go for regular cleanings and yearly appointments and have gotten a handle on my dental health. Honorable mention for Kim - Dr. Neeley's assistant - she's awesome. I took a job in Georgetown and bought a house in Round Rock and I still travel to South Austin to go to these dentists because they're the best I've found. Diane the receptionist was able to squeeze me in before work and get my emergency cracked cap looked at right away. Dr. Hayashi was very gentle and very nice, as well as his assistant. I have been a patient at Barton Oaks for more than 10 years. So that means 20 dental cleanings and I think for all but one of them, Cindy was my hygienist. I often have a 7:30am appointment and Cindy is always cheerful, commenting on things I might have said six months before. She is thorough and meticulous. I believe my mouth is in good hands with Cindy. Dr. Nemeth is my dentist and I appreciate that she always takes the time to explain my options and the steps of the process. She has wiped away painful childhood memories with her expert administration of Novocain. While I have been given written treatment plans, there is no pressure to undergo procedures or buy products that I do not need. The office seems to run on time as I have never had to wait long in the waiting room. The staff is welcoming and friendly. read more

Dr. Nemeth is the best dentist I've ever had. Before I found Dr. Nemeth, I had some bad experiences with my former dentists and had started putting off making dental appointments. Now that I've gone to Dr. Nemeth for several years, I no longer worry about pain or bad results when I need dental work. I was surprised to only see a 1 star review for this clinic. My orthodontist is Dr. Elizabeth and I must offer a disclaimer that my teeth are in decent shape and I just go there twice a year for cleaning. The front office has been prompt in scheduling appointments and sending reminders a day or two prior to appointment. The hygienist is a personal choice and Louri has been very good for me. She is very patient and has excellent manners. Dr. Elizabeth does a review after each cleaning (typically once a year, but I requested it every visit). So I dont have any complains with this office. My wife uses the same facility and she has had good experience there as well. read more
