Very nice bartenders. Dark, crowded, and loud. My drink was ok. Maybe the food is better? I feel like cocktails are just not the way to go in Vancouver. Too much experimenting with different flavors that don't mesh well. Just constant disappointment honestly. Probably safer just to stick with wine or beer. read more

I've been here 5-6 times, and each time I leave less impressed and more irritated. When you walk in you will initially be dazzled by the beauty of the space. As you observe the goings on, you likely begin to feel perturbed. For me, the first strike happened when I ordered the beef tartare - something I'd ordered a few times before. What arrived didn't look or smell fresh, and the egg ontop was visibly overcooked. The waitress agreed that it looked "off" and replaced it, but I then had to listen to a manager mansplain to her ad nauseam about how both of us were wrong and how what we both saw with our own eyes was impossible. With me sitting less than 10ft away he insulted both of our intelligences. Second strike for me was when I was sitting at the bar with a friend and the sweet bartender ID'ed us. The cook walked past us and yelled "dude - that's sick! You must have made them feel so good!". Very insulting and another example of how the staff seem to have no concept of how little the place is and how loud they are when talking to each other. Third and final strike was a recent relatively quiet evening. We were seated next to two young girls at the bar. I heard the other manager instruct the staff to "push drinks as hard as you can" and then watched him completely overserve the two young girls until they could barely walk. After they left, I heard him brag about how they had arrived stating an intention to have a quick drink before leaving for dinner plans and he turned it into a huge bill. Once again, making inappropriate statements right in front of customers. We are not deaf and dumb! It's such a shame that this place is so sleazy because Yaletown really needs a new watering hole. The drinks are fussy but decent and a few of the food items are good, but the new establishment "buzz" seems to be dying down and the place is much emptier nowadays. I won't be back. read more

Their Negroni and Old Fashioned menus appear to be the main differentiator; the Frankfort Negroni which was great, the Lily Is A Star which was really unique and good, and one of the bartenders choice which happened to be a tiki-style drink. Such a great cocktail bar. We got an espresso martini and the "famous last word" and both were absolutely perfect. One of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. All of the waitstaff were very attentive and friendly and the vibe was great. We got shishito peppers to eat, which were wonderful, but the charcuterie boards and other food also looked great. I was so looking forward to trying Bartholomew's. I have tried a couple of times to get in but they have a 2 hour wait most weekends. The place is small and cozy. Great concept from the seating and menu. The service is OK but the food was very average for charcuterie!. A major disappointment! The pate, bread and crackers were the best! The cheeses and meats a huge disappointment. For the Butchers selection I would never order that again. The meatballs were tasty but cold! The drinks were delicious. The beer selection average for Vancouver. I like the seating as it is cozy with side by side tables, or for groups booths or sitting at the bar. The bathrooms are clean. read more

Good start for this new bar/restaurant. Small seating area. Beautiful, classy interior with comfy seating. Interesting wine list. Good selection of charcuterie and cheeses with a small number of mains if needed for sharing. Great attentive service. Charcuterie and cheese boards could be explained better upon presentation and note that they are fairly pricey for the portion. We also had a side dish of mushrooms - good portion with excellent read. The ingredients are not inexpensive in Canada vs other parts of the world so go in prepared. We were advised olives were included with the board but they were not. Nice starting point before dinner elsewhere. read more

My husband took me there for my birthday. Cool looking room, cozy booth. Disappointed there weren't any ciders on the drink menu. I mean, there's at least 40 cideries in BC alone. But the Bomber Lager was pretty good. Service was ok. Our waitress informed us it was her first day. Since it was our first time there I would have preferred someone with a bit more knowledge of the menu. But she did a decent job. We ordered olives and bread basket and some meat and cheese. It would have been nice to be told there was baguette and crisps accompanying the board, we wouldn't have gotten the bread. It wasn't written on the menu there was bread with the board. Anything to make an extra few bucks off us, I guess. Grainy Dijon came with the board. But it was buried under gherkins and pickled veg. My husband doesn't like mustard so he was unable to enjoy the pickles and veg since they were sitting right in the mustard. Would be smarter to maybe put it off to the side not touching anything. Small portions for the price. 2 thin slices of the ballotine for $7? I mean the meats and cheeses were tasty, but we paid too much. We got our bread and olives the same time as the table of 3 attractive millennial ladies did. We ordered right after them. Our server took our order directly after theirs and put both orders in at the same time. But they got their board of meat and cheese mere minutes later. 10 minutes of waiting later our server finally comes over to say the manager had jumped in to help the guys make our board (a board of 4 meats and 3 cheeses that 2 guys were working on) since she did mention it was my birthday. I'd have to take her word for it, I didn't see him back there and it still took about another 5-6 minutes to get our food. The manager, I guess that's who it was, dropped our food off without even a mention of our wait or an apology. Weak. I guess we have to be pretty 20 somethings to get our food quicker instead of married 40 somethings in celebrating my birthday. They definitely have some wrinkles to iron out. Don't think I'll go back, there's so many other places to try. read more

Went with a coworker for some post-work drinks, and lucky we were able to nab two spots at the bar, as the place doesn't have a ton of seating, and few tables that could seat more than 2 people, so would not recommend for larger groups. The atmosphere is darkly lit with lots of candles, dark tons of furniture and wood, with a dark jazz bar feeling. I found the music too be a little too loud, as sitting next to my friend at the bar, at points I felt like we had to yell to hear each other, and to note, we aren't old lady's with bad hearing! I had a Bradford Martini, which had a special vermouth sprayed on top at the end, which felt decadent and so delicious for gin fans! We also shared a board, which had a mix of some amazing cheese and meats. And finished off the night with a bottle of bubbly. I already see this being a new go-to spot for date nights or catching up with a friend. And if you are a charcuterie & cocktail fan, a must try! read more

This bar has been opened for about 3 months now and I think they're still finding their stride. They might be great once they figure things out. They don't have some basics down. We came in for happy hour, but they don't have a happy hour menu printed out. Instead they did a 5 min speech about which regular menu items are discounted, but are now smaller. It was awkward and we weren't sure in the end what was happy hour and what was regular price. I was originally disappointed when my fancy cocktail on happy hour that cost $10 tasted exactly like watered down cranberry juice, so I asked for my bill and packed up to leave. My amazing server knew something was bothering me so asked and I told her about the drink. She took care of it and invited me to try another. Nice place decent cocktails (though some a little overpriced at $23!) but what really ticked us off was the server. He was obnoxious to begin with when asked what type of water we wanted "sparkling?" We replied "tap is fine" and his smirky response was "oh the free kind". Okay... yes Vancouvers finest h20 that's what we wanted... Proceeded to order a bottle of wine and some other cocktails. He asked us 3 times to try his charcuterie "made in house". We had told him the first time that we just came full from dinner. He was extremely pushy and annoying. As we were finishing our drinks (literally did not even finish) he asked if we wanted anything else. We were still enjoying our drinks! "Not at this moment" we replied. So he brought us the bill. Wtf? He then assumed that our bill (we had split bills) at $72 we gave a $100 bill and he asked "any change?" No kidding and you have the nerve to ask for a $28 tip! Lol epic. Was pretty excited to try this place - who doesn't love a good charcuterie and cocktails bar; those are some of my favourite types. First impressions: the staff are really pleasant and the space is beautiful. Cocktails are ok - nothing special but decent. Ordered the beef tartar and couldn't even eat it, it was really watery. The food is extremely overpriced. We picked 4 of the charcuterie items, a terrine (not good) n'duja (good), cheese (good) but my problem was when we ordered the Serrano ham. At $8 they served us 1 piece of Serrano ham on the board. I'm not over exaggerating, it was a single piece and it was a small one. The other items may have tasted good but they were also small; I understand if they were delicious and high quality but they were not that great! Don't bother eating here. read more

I am still at a loss for words at the poor service here. I would have thought a fancier establishment like this would be a bit more thoughtful and attentive. We sat at the bar and bartender right in front of my face flat out ignored us for the first 15 minutes. Not even a smile or hi. Then later surprise introduces himself and asks what we want. He makes the drinks and we sip. Doesn't check in until 30 mins later. Drinks ranged from mediocre to unpleasant. My first drink was an old fashioned which was just fine.. a bit underwhelming tbh. Nothing complex or well balanced.. something I could have easily made at home. Second was a squid ink drink that was very hard to drink. I'm not sure exactly what it was but something in it was harsh and came off spicy? It kept itching my throat and for awhile I thought I might be experiencing an allergic reaction (I have no food allergies). Cute place though, loved the room set up and decorations (thus the added star). But people working there were snobby and full of attitude. No thanks, drinks weren't even worth it. Pass! read more

This place has great ambience I give the food about a four out of five there's one or two dishes that I didn't care for the wine was nice but you go here for the ambiance they spent a million bucks on the interior and it shows world-class I give them credit it's such a beautiful place. I have been here twice now since opening as I love the ambiance, the meat and cheese boards and the veggies dishes! Unfortunately when we went last we received less than average service, with a serious side of attitude. For example, when we asked to order another happy hour wine as we were around 5pm and the response was "that's no longer available" and when we asked to have the same wine at regular price that we just had it was "I just told you we don't offer that". We then asked if we could have a similar blend and it was "I told you we don't offer that wine" and made my friend feel very embarrassed by the situation. We asked how the toasts were served - one piece or two - and the response was "it depends how our chef is feeling". I asked how chef was feeling today and it was "I have no idea". Half way through the meal she stopped serving our table and we had to flag down other servers. Overall we appeared to be an inconvenience and were met with hostile, unhelpful and short responses to everything we asked. read more
