I was offered a dry aged Canadian Prime Rib steak which I was assured, was the best of the best. Turns out it was the worst dry aged steak I have ever eaten in my life. Gone was the rich, nutty meatiness of a good dry aged steak and instead all I got was the taste and aroma of old dried animal fat. If you've ever had bad prosciutto or Parma ham or even bad Chinese laap cheurng sausage or laap yuk, you'll know the taste. Definitely not what I was excepting for a $110 steak. I used the contact form on their website to report the issues I had and a few days later, there's no reply. Also, I can do without the hard sell sales pitch from the moment you walk in the door. Yes, the sales guy was friendly & nice to my kid, but the hard selling of everything I even took a glance at was a bit too much. Very disappointed indeed. One bonus was that the dog really enjoyed the steak. I fed it to him after 2 bites as I just couldn't palate it. He truly thanks you from the heart of his bottom.

I called ahead before heading down here, "Do you have center cut tenderloin?", "Yes we have a lot". Well that was dumb of me for being not specific enough on what I'm trying to make. When I got there, I talked to one of the staff asking for the tenderloin. They proceed to show the center cut tenderloin which been cut to steak size. I explained that I'm planning to make Wellington, and that would not work. They went to the back, but couldn't find any, and told me it was sold out earlier. Then they talked about the other tenderloin cut, which twirled using string, they said I can use it but they wouldn't recommend it for Wellington as there is muscle which going to make it tough. I decided to just get the prosciutto, and another staff came to help me. They asked how much I need and what I'm making. Once they learned that I'm making Wellington, they dig around for the center cut and there was one left! Christmas is saved! Cost about $113.68 for 1.146 kg of center cut tenderloin, very good price!

All good - head out and ask my husband to pick it up. While I shop for other things. After several minutes of confusion from the staff, he's finally handed an enormous wrapped parcel and charged $104. He's shocked but figures he better get it. Now I don't know if we could have returned it at this point, but when I saw Safeway only had a small, single breast (for $13.99) I figured I'd go with what appeared to be a very large double / full breast. Getting home I unwrap a bloody, netted roll of turkey that turns out to be one skin-on breast that has the meat partially separating from the skin, very unevenly and poorly removed from the bone, plus approximately 8 skinless breasts of various sizes. I'm already anxious enough about making a massive and complex meal and now I have an extremely expensive pile of basically crap as my centrepiece. Wonderful. Suggest if you buy from them do it in-store and watch what you're getting. I suspect they had a trainee and rolled their unsalable poorly cut breasts into a giant 'sucker' package for whoever phoned in a turkey order. I certainly won't support this business again, which pisses me off because I sure don't love supporting Galen and the other monopolies. Feeling incredibly ripped off and gullible for trusting which also sucks for us as a society. I was very clear in my order that I was expecting both sides of the breast with skin on (I asked twice) from a roughly 5-6 kilo turkey. And, the owner, Mike, is rude and defensive when someone brings about meat that is not up to snuff. They used to make meatloafs with ground beef, lamb and pork and a mild seasoning with tomato sauce and parsley. I have bought them for years. Recently, though, they changed the recipe and cut out the lamb! While this saves money for them, the recipe now is inedible! It's overly salty and tastes like soap! We could not finish even one of the three. I let them know by phone and they said "just throw it out and we will give you another". Why would we want another that tasted so bad and was inedible? so, I brought back the two others and when Mike heard of this, he came over to counter, yelled at me and said, "Here's your 20 and we don't want to hear your story!" He continued to berate me and said, "We must have sold over a 100 of these!" I have no ulterior motive. But the meat recipe was awful and the meat itself looked brownish/grey. Still, I went on to buy two large very expensive steaks and some brisket. I was working with another of his sales team (thankfully) and Mike re-inserted himself to say, "If you want a deal for Brisket", go to Costco!" I was astonished. Is this how you treat decades old customers? The other staff person looked embarrassed when he heard Mike scolding me. I think the place must be slipping in either its business or professionalism. I can't say when I will recover from this awful service. I will not recommend them to others.

If Tenderland Meats can reach out to this review, I know a lot of people want this to be changed back to the original. I'd rather pay more for quality then eat something that doesn't taste good. We didn't feel safe eating it and most of it was thrown out. The pork really ruins this meatloaf dish.

Wow, wow, wow. What a FABULOUS gourmet foodie shop, here in…read morethe heart of Kerrisdale! (Those of you who know me know I don't rave about places often, using caps in my Yelp reviews!). This place is wonderful. I don't get to Kerrisdale as much as I'd like to, so I was somewhat surprised yesterday to stumble upon this Market Meats shop on 41st. A friend who works in the area mentioned that she sometimes gets sandwiches for lunch here, so I decided to check out what ready-made meals they had available. (If my friend hadn't mentioned the sandwiches here, I'd have thought this place simply an upscale butcher/meat shop TBH). Just...wow. The store interior is sharp, modern, with a New York feel (clean white and black palette, open, contemporary deli-aesthetic). I was immediately drawn to the display at the front containing sewers of chicken in delicious-looking sauces and meat ribs in barbecue sauces and other dishes one can purchase and cook in one's homes. Everything looked super fresh and delicious and, yes, homemade. Then I went to the shelves along the wall containing the sandwiches. I was so impressed by the assortment of super-stuffed sandwiches: brisket on rye, smoked turkey, roast beef.... all of which had pickles and gourmet condiments and were on fresh deli breads. Seriously, the kind you'd get in NYC (or any decent deli on the east coast. The kind that Vancouver is seriously lacking in). My kid and I grabbed a Montreal smoked meat sandwich on rye with fresh mustard. (The guy at the cash, who warmly greeted me when I came in and asked if I needed help finding anything, confirmed that this smoked meat indeed came from Montreal - the real deal, from Schwartz's! - and said he makes it a point to get all the meats and fish and most of the foodstuffs here domestically, from across Canada, only the best. I liked that). All sandwiches cost $14.99, so...not cheap. Bur fresh and good and super-stuffed (enough for at least 2 meals for me). The shelves beyond the sandwiches were full of spreads and condiments and rubs and condiments from Canada. I was so happy to see Montreal represented with some Joe Beef rubs and other Montreal products (lox! from my fave Jewish delis back home!). Beautiful cheeses, the likes I've not seen before. Then we got to the seafoods of all sorts, and of course, meats of all sorts. I really liked how the folks behind the counter were really friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about all the foods here: what would be best for whatever type of cook you are, how much to get for what your specific needs are, how to best store and cook it, etc. I would personally be very confident getting foods here as I feel I could trust these folks to help me out (and I'm not the best cook, between us!). I wanted to get a gift for some neighbors who invited me to thier New Years Eve party, and I know these neighbors are real "foodies". I feel I stumbled upon the perfect place to get them a gift! The options were a-plenty here! First I had a beautiful small wheel of cheese and some gourmet fig jam in hand to get them, then I decided instead on a small tin of bougie caviar, then at the cash I saw this beautiful tall jar full of fancy chocolate-marshmallow concoctions which I thought looked very festive, and I settled on that (I had never seen this product before! Unique). So many choices. I realize this is a long review, but it was important to note how this is NOT just a meat shop! It's the best foodie shop, with the most helpful staff! I really encourage you to check out this place if you're in the area!

I always thought it was a butcher shop and only fresh meat was sold here. Then I saw a sign outside indicating fried chicken was available. I could not resist fried chicken and just had to check it out. Unfortunately I did not see any fried chicken but I discovered so much more. Besides the fresh meat and seafood and deli meat, there were also ready to serve meals. Lots of condiments and desserts. My excitement was finding ossobuco here! I have not had it in many years and this dish always brought back memories of having it in an Italian restaurant helmed by Italians. The ossobuco rigatoni here was really good. There were lots of chunky meat which just melt in your mouth. Everything in the dish was wonderful. I hope they do have this often as this seemed to be the special of the day then. I also bought the double smoked bacon and it was fresh but super smoky. It actually smoked up my air fryer when I used that to cook and set off the smoke alarm. Note to self: cook bacon in fry pan instead. The limoncello dessert also caught my eye. Hopefully the tiramisu will be in stock the next time I am there. This is a great butcher shop in the Kerrisdale area.

The grilled cheese was alright though in comparison to the porchetta sandwich. Great cheese pull, definitely needs some dipping sauce to elevate it though.
