I have driven by Beefway Meats hundreds of time as it was on my way to work and finally stopped by yesterday when we were looking for a couple of steaks. This place has an amazing and very large selection of sausages and so many cuts of beef, pork and chicken....very impressive. We picked up a couple of steaks and some chorizo for my next paella meal. Happy to recommend Beefway Meats. read more

I've been a regular customer at Beefway for quite some time and really value the quality of their meat, which is why this is disappointing to say. Unfortunately, the customer service has consistently been way below expectations. Every time I call the store, the staff often sound impatient, unwilling to answer questions, and at times even sarcastic. The lady that's usually the cashier is really sweet though. When you are paying premium prices for high-quality beef, you also expect respectful and courteous service. It's a shame, because if the customer experience were better, I would gladly shop there even more often. read more

Conveniently located near our house, this butcher is awesome. They have an excellent variety of meats, a deli section with various hams, cheeses and other cured meats, an extensive selection of various sausages (made in house!), meat pies, and specialty items (variety of offals, rabbit, bison, etc.). Fast and friendly service. Free parking available out front or in the back. read more

I come here when I don't want a lot of meat because you get to pick how much you want. Sometimes it's better than buying prepackaged meats. Prices did go up a lot over the years which doesn't make it economical anymore. They also don't carry a lot of product . Used to like buying fresh ground veal but it's rarely in stock but they do have frozen veal. read more

The answer to the age-old question, "Where's the beef?!?" Located on Kingsway in East Vancouver, Beefway offers full butcher services for the meat connoisseur. They offer pretty much any cut of meat this Yelper could desire. And, they even have organic options as well. One half of the store is dedicated to beef, the other half features pork. In the back, a crew works at butchering and quartering large slabs of meat into consumer friendly chunks. The store can get quite busy, so take a number as soon as you arrive for prompt service. They accept credit cards, including Amex which is a bonus. Pricing is competitive, if not cheaper than many grocery stores. There is high turnover so the meat on display is likely very fresh. Free parking is available in the back. Grade AA butcher store. read more

Not a place for a PETA person. I was in the hood and I've known about this place for quite some time. Since my most recent acquisition of a smoke box and some wood chips, I needed to check out cuts of meat. I came here. The front of the store is relatively small, but the back area is what you would call an open concept slaughterhouse. You know open kitchen concepts in homes? Open concept cutting, meathooks, and carcasses hanging about. You can see the butchers cutting away the musculature, bones, and proteins! It's all there. Pretty violent. Ain't pretty if you're a vegan. Things I was looking for: Intact beef brisket Whole side ribs Pork shoulders and butts Normally I'd go into Chinatown for this, but they tend to trim everything. I wanted semi-trimmed to untrimmed. I'm going to do the butchering, and trimming myself. Found everything. They were quite friendly and willing to answer a couple of questions I had. This place is definitely worth considering. I need to look around a bit more. There are a couple of other places I need to look into. Chances are, I will be back. The store is also partnered with a discount bread/bakery, McGavins. May as well get your buns here too! read more

I have been coming here for years. Mostly I buy dog food (they have chicken, lamb, beef or tripe. - highly recommended). If I need a particular cut of meat for a recipe, this is the place. I regularly get here those things that I can not find at my usual spot (Superstore). I highly recommend Beefway. read more

Awesome place and great service. Always my place to shop for the best bbq cuts in the city!

The quality is very good and price is reasonable. One of the better butchers in town. Do wish they had fresh T-Bone steaks. Came here once before and T-Bone steaks are frozen. read more

Love this place. I always come for the flat iron steaks which are amazing. Great prices and great service. They also just started selling maui ribs!! Just a great old school butcher shop with pigs hanging from the roof! read more

Thank god for the bad decor at Beefway Meats. If it was more fashionable it would be seething with west-side douchebags challenging their pampered filet mignon palettes with the "snout to tail" food trend. This place has *the best* prices, amazing (truly amazing knowledgeable and friendly) service, the worlds best selection (looking for something obscure? Need a bag of pigs trotters or chicken tongues? Not sure if that's a thing but if it is, this place will have it) and everything a meat lover could possibly want, minus the irrelevant bullshit "palace of meat" decor. The place is spotless, well lit, and open so you can see your friendly helpful butcher custom-slicing your exact portion requirement for whatever food-blog-worthy menu you have planned. I heart Beefway Meats. I hope they never change their name or decor. read more

People who say there are no butchers must be insane, or else they haven't gone to Beefway. People who say the butchers get driven away by the supermarkets must be insane, or else they haven't been to Beefway. I lived a block away from this store for nearly a year, and together with the discount bread store Mcgavins next door they kept me well fed for very very cheap. Not only does Beefway have better deals on their meat cuts than any supermarket (especially if you buy over 5lbs), but they grind it, cut it, or fillet it in front of you. For an idea of their prices, their ground beef ranges from $1.75 regular to $3.99 extra lean, fresh and ground that day. You can ask for a specific cut, or take one of theirs displayed at the counter. No pre wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam portions in a fridge over night at the supermarket! And try their fresh bacon! Its impossible to compare! There is rarely a crowd, except on the weekends, but they close early. When busy expect quite a line, as their service is not exactly built for speed. In short, eat meat here! You beautiful omnivorous species. read more

We just recently moved to the neighbourhood and decided to try out Beefway Meats based on the reviews we saw on Yelp. We were totally blown away by the excellent selection and fantastic prices - if you're in the area, be sure to stop by and pick something up! Also, do yourself a favour and get some house smoked bacon while you're there. It's so flavourful you'll find yourself spoiled for any other bacon in your life! read more

The best butcher shop in Vancouver. Both by price and quality of service. I use Beefway for all my protiens. I have purchased everything from a single steak (that I took home and marinated for 2 days) to a whole 125Lb pig (that I roasted over an open fire in my backyard in the middle of January*) and always been happy with the products. If you are ever there stand at the counter and wait for someone to open the cooler door and there it is "Meat Heaven" and a very cold lady trimming meat. *side note - don't try to cook a 125Lb pig over an open fire in January unless you have at least 12 hours. read more

This is a good quality, local butcher shop. The kind where people who know about meat can shop and get what they want. It's also the kind where people who want to learn about meat can go and be shown how to shop for meat. I like the fresh cut pork shoulder butt for braising, skirt steak for spicy grilling, fresh ground pork and beef of various fat contents for perfect meatballs and burgers. Beefway shows that a neighbourhood butcher is still a great modern place to buy good meat. read more

I can't say enough good things about Beefway. They're personable, knowledgable and most importantly, carry a superior product. This is an "old school" sawdust on the floor type of butcher shop where everything is in view. You can make specific requests and watch as a butcher skillfully carries them out in front of you. They cater to an international clientel with specialty cuts like Brazilian "Picanha" or top sirlion that's BBQ ready. There's also reasonably priced bags of bones- perfect for soup stock by the front door. read more

I don't eat meat that often but this is the only place I go whenever I have a craving. The prices are great, and you can get ANYTHING here (except for the time when they ran out of chicken gizzards...it was a sad day). I love the fact that it's fresh, clean, and I can buy the exact amount of food I need to cook for just 1 person. read more

Best thick cut bacon in town. Least grease, not over salted. No nonsense non hipster meat shop.

I was in Beefway Meats today for the first time after reading all the positive reviews. Ordered .5 lb of ground beef and the ground beef looked very fresh (bright red) in the display case, but when the young lady helping me took a handful of the ground beef, the ground beef underneath the bright red ground beef was a dull brown color. Questioned her about the difference in the color and she said it was due to 'oxidation'. Not wanting to argue, I took the ground beef, but later after doing some online research - ground beef with dull brown color is due to being exposed to air for too long. This ground beef will be thrown out. read more

Well I wasn't sure I would like Beefway, because their decor is very plain. Also I'm a lapsing vegan, so I feel guilty entering meat-only establishments. HOWEVER I was very impressed once I saw and smelled how fresh everything is, and how helpful the staff are. This is the old-fashioned real deal. Beefway has all kinds of cuts like brisket and shank that are grandma-approved, and taste great without killing your bank account if you know how to cook slowly. They even have some natural/free range chicken and hormone free beef. They have lamb. They have tongue (it seems to be getting more popular, and after tasting it done by La Taqueria I'm thinking of trying to make it myself). They have turkey and sausage and even cold cuts and cuts of beef so you could make your own. Everything is weighed as you watch, you are asked if you would like a custom cut, and then wrapped in brown paper at the time. The soup bones are to die for - they are actually meaty enough that you can have soup without adding extra meat. The staff are not pretentious (! so great !) and there is NO strong bleachy smell or off meaty smell, and everyone is in a hairnet and looks busy. Also, they have fantastic pet food that they make from beef heart and ground beef, which has really perked up my cat and smells much better than canned food, at half the price. He also licks his dish after eating it and has stopped meowing after cans like an overfed catfood obsessed monster with this food. I think there must be something very addictive in canned food, the way he behaves, but miraculously Beefway's regular ground beef based pet food has made him sweet and reasonable again so he no longer wakes me at 4 and 5 am frantic for his canned fix. For $1.99/lb (late 2010!!) I don't need therapy or an afternoon nap... so great. If only their hours were longer, and they had some frozen grass fed local beef or organic meat of any kind, I would give them five stars. read more

Excellent butcher shop with reasonable prices. We were looking for a particular pork roast and had gone to other meat shops in town only to be told that it would be a special order. As a foodie.....I prefer to get my meat from a butcher. I'm over those pretentious west end butchers. The staff are nice, the meats are reasonably priced and if your meat needs a little dressing and personality, they have sauces and gravies to help out as well. Down to earth meat shop. I wish that there were more of these in the city. I find the meat more reliable and fresher here than what I get at Extra Foods in my neighborhood. It's just sometimes out of my way even though it really isn't. read more

I don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but I'm so glad I did because I may have never known about Beefway Meats! I still make the drive out to this butcher because they are the bomb. It's true, they have any + all kinds of cuts + meats here. Don't forget to check in the fridge for their vacuum packed bacon ends. Soooo goood. It's clean, you can see all the workers trimming + chopping the meat. Sometimes a recipe calls for a type of cut that I'm not familiar with, but the staff are always very pleasant + never make me feel like a meat ignormamus. read more

i haven't shopped here but noticed this place has been here for years. I will shop here next time after a wonderful customer service experience a couple days ago with value added service they provided to me. my service experience: I had some meat bones that i got from my cousin that i needed cut up as they were huge, however broke my cleaver due to inexperience of cutting meat I then, brought it into Beefway and Jim expertly cut in up in less than 3minutes which amazed me! (if i recall took me way longer for a small subsection before I broke my knife.) I will come back to get some soup bones, stewing meats, steaks etc. thanks Jim. read more

My family has been shopping at beefway for over 10 years, recently the customer service and quality have gone down, as before they would help with selecting and cutting the meat, now they complain and charge you extra per pound for a service that should be included if they call themselves a butcher store, sadly the beefway tradition in my family will now be something of the past because it's obvious they don't care about customer satisfaction anymore. read more

I didn't actually shop here, but you'll know why I'll NEVER shop here after you read this ! Saturday evening I passed by their windows on the way to the bus stop. I like to look in on local markets' even when they're not open to see if anything catches my interest for a further investigation. Boy was I in for a shock ! The shop was closed but if I didn't know any better I would have thought I was looking into an insect enclosure display at the zoo ! There were so many black flies buzzing around, landing on a dirty rag next to the slicer, or on the wooden cutting block ( which by the way still had specks of meat trimmings on it ) ! At any given time there were no less than five massive black flies ON the board and another five or so on the rag, with others flying around chilling themselves on the floor fan that had been left on for the night ! I sure hope all of you who have given this place a five star rating realize every fly on the cutting board deserve each star you've given them ! God help your digestive system too should you eat anything from this shop ! read more

We bought a freezer pack recently, since the prices were good and there appeared to be a good reputation and history. The quality was brutal, and wonder what they are cutting fresh? The only redeeming feature was the pork sausage, but that sucks after all of the crap we got in that pack. read more

My 1st experience..i called them and asked if they had boneless beef shank. the lady said they had and i drove over and bought around 5lbs. the service and cleanliness seemed very good. when we opened the pack, we found that the meat was not shank. since the dish we were cooking specifically needed shank, it was a disaster. I called and spoke to Jonah and all he offered was some excuse that the staff is not aware. Obviously we will not go back. read more

I went to Beefway meats for a long time and was satisfied. For myself, I mostly bought chicken and as I said was happy with the service. In November 2011, I got a dog and began to go to beefway meats for beef knuckle raw bones. At first I was getting great service. I asked for bones to be cut approximately the size of a fist and one gent in particular was wonderful (30-40 sandy hair). The last two times I have gone there the story has been VERY different and indeed disturbing. I went in on Friday Sept 7 at around 4:30 and there were two Asian butchers there (one older and one younger). The gal at the front took my order--they are always amazing and friendly--and brought the beef knuckle bone to the younger man. I had asked for fist size bones and he cut this huge bone into 3 pieces. I told the gal they were too big. She brought them back to the butcher who made this big dismissive and disgusted action and stomped off into the cooler. When she came back to me (poor gal to have to work with that kind of bs) I said the bones were of no use to me they way they were cut. She went to the older butcher and he said he could have cut them smaller if they were whole but not now that they were already cut. I told her they were useless t me and that I would never be back. She said it is dangerous to cut bones. Ok, I get they don't want to do it, so say so and I would immediately have gone somewhere else. Do not treat me or anyone else who want to purchace an item you say you sell with that kind of disrespect...totally uncalled for, immature, unprofessional and unacceptable...goodbye read more
