Lynette at Bartels managed my rental home in Richmond for over two years. I live out of state, so I was very anxious to get a property manager that would really do the job. (I have had other managers for other properties in the past that seemed more interested in collecting their share of the rent than in actually managing the property, protecting my interests and keeping the tenants happy.) Lynette met all my needs. She kept me in the loop when I needed to be, but blissfully ignorant when informing me of some minor issue would have served no purpose. The tenants we selected have been very good to my property and I have had no issues with rental payments. If I ever need a manager in the Richmond area again, Lynette would be the person I would call. read more

I am a good person I have never in my life written a bad review so I applied for these properties on 2806 Charleston Ln, San Pablo CA I went to see the properties The lady said only one other person applied. Me, and that they have two units available I went in to do the application, at 3088 Pinole Valley Road Pinole, CA 94564 I also wrote a letter to explain my situation. And provided them a voucher I was told they should be getting in contact with me in two weeks, or probably sooner I didn't get a call or email coming into the third- week so on 3/2/2026 at 9:23am I called. The lady told me that they rented one of the units and then she told me that another unit was still available and asked if I have a updated voucher. I then told her that I can't get an updated one because I have to put in a 30-day notice at my current place to get my updated one. But I am approved for a 3bed room do to my extended family. Remind you all of this is what I said in the letter when submitting my application She then tells me that's not true I know people that has there's basically telling me that I am a liar. I was very offended so she asked me again. Can I get an updated voucher today I then said I can try to go get something stating that I have a three-bedroom voucher so I went to the housing office, called her back at 11:13am the secretary picked up and said didn't you just talk to her. We already have two people in both of the units. I then told her that's not what she said. She then transferred me back to the lady I then put the Housing Authority on the phone. She talked with them and everything that she told the housing lady wasn't what she told me. She then proceeded and said we would have to wait for inspections an etc. but what I didn't understand was why she didn't tell me that why did she ask me to go get an updated voucher instead of saying you didn't get the place? After I went 45 minutes away to the housing place and waited in a long line and had to wait to talk with someone She didn't even apologize for calling me a liar after they told her the something I told her if you already know dealing with people with section 8 vouchers requires exceptions why let them apply these rental properties Been up for 84 days already and you're talking about waiting on inspection I was discriminated against. I didn't get a fair chance. This is unacceptable. I feel like I was racially profiled. The moment she got my application. I should have at least gotten a call asking for whatever she needed, and I would have worked on it, but no instead they took my application fee, which I was told that I was going to get back and didn't I'm not mad that I didn't get it I'm upset about the unprofessionalism and discrimination and the disrespect people love to abuse their power I wouldn't recommend anyone to this agency unprofessional and unfair treatment bad communication this is not how you should represent your company the world we live in is so sad I encourage people to know your rights and look up the laws are connecte attorneys read more

Bartels Property Management - One of the laws in California - Property Management Near Me - Pinole, California

This review is preliminary as I haven't yet entered into an agreement with this firm. But l've contacted Bartels and spoke with the owner (Lynette) who took her time and answered all my questions clearly, professionally, honestly, and pleasantly. Bartels would be high on my list should I choose to hire a property management firm. Thanks, Lynette. read more

The Bartels team really were great and easy to work with. My wife and I rented our previous property from them from June 2014 to March 2019. They were great to work with every step of the way even when we had our wedding in the back yard, they helped work with any concerns we had. They were very communicative during our biggest transitions, the wedding and moving out). Should we decide to rent in the Bay Area again we hope to work with them again in the future! read more

Bartels Property Management has managed eight apartment units for my family for over fifteen years. Managing apartments is often challenging to say the least. Bartels has always been knowledgeable, responsive and extremely effective. Lynette and her staff always have a solution to any problem that may arise. They are very patient and communicative, both with owners as well as tenants. Prior to utilizing Bartels, we were with another management company that is no longer in business. That experience was nothing short of disastrous. I strongly recommend Bartels if you are looking for the best in property management. read more

If you are looking for a quick turn around to figure out if you are approved then do not choose Bartels. They make you wait 10 days for an answer. Not only that but one of the women in the office insisted that I didn't make enough when I bring in about 8 grand a month, I ask that she double check her math and she again told me I did not make enough, she then called her supervisor to ask about how she should calculate my income and it was determined she was making a mistake so she began to apologize. From the very beginning they act like they don't want you to be approved, hater vibes. Anyways, they denied me for who cares the reason because I'm moving into a new place in a few weeks and it's far more exclusive than the dump they are advertising. The only good thing about their unit was location, other than that, I was settling by applying to their unit. They know what type of person they are looking for as a tenant, I am curious to know how many of their tenants are people of color. Probably slim to none. I guess I couldn't pass their requirements but had no problem elsewhere, I recommend everyone look ELSEWHERE!! Happy hunting!! read more

Best property management company in the Bay Area, very professional. I recommend them to anyone looking for a management company. Good staff

They seriously need to re-evaluate their staff, the most disgusting unprofessional attitude. I should've asked for the woman's name before hanging up, but I knew better then to stay on the line with that woman another second. All I did was call to schedule an appointment for the ONLY listing they have up right now. This woman decides to talk to me like I'm dumb and wasn't clear, so when I wanted to clarify things she would proceed talking to me in that ignorant matter. How do you even do business with people in your office like that? In our conversation she asked if I was the person that came twice, I said yes. I asked her if she was the person that helped me when I went in yesterday and she responds there are multiple people that walk in (how are you going to ask me if I was the person that walked in twice and then act like you don't know who I am when I ask if you helped me?) I asked her why was she being so rude and she says she wasn't and told me I was the one taking it that way. (Are you serious? So Basically i called her and decided "hey, I'm going to take her tone as rude" are you kidding me? I honestly did not reiterate my call in verbatim on this review. But I strongly believe people need to know ahead of reaching out to this property management the trash they have working there and the lack of professionalism they will be dealing with Response to comment: I'm pretty sure it was Lynette who handled the call because it seems like everyone I've spoken to about this location is fully aware of her nasty unnecessary attitude and she laughed and said "I'm sorry if you're taking it that way, but I'm not". If you're going to respond at least be honest of what was actually said. There was no polite tone since the beginning of the call. You were by appointment only so don't act as if there was so much foot traffic making it out hard to remember and let me reiterate, there was literally only ONE property listing that they had at the time of this call ONE. I also received a call the day of my so called appointment that I never made and I let them know I did not confirm an appointment because the woman I spoke to was very rude and the lady just said "okay" and got off the phone. Didn't ask what happened or wanted to clarify the situation or investigate. read more

I would highly recommend Bartel's Propery Management for management of rental property. Lynette Bartel and her most competent staff handled a challenging house rental of property my husband and I own. We live a distance away from Richmond, but Bartel's took great care of getting responsible renters and keeping track of our property. For many years, we tried renting out the property. What a difference in our lives to have professionals do it; such a burden was lifted off our shoulders. When we eventually sold the property, again Lynette guided us through all the proper steps to take...again we couldn't have successfully done this without their competent and efficient services. read more

Hello everyone!!!! I would like to say and thank everyone especially Lynette during my process of trying to get a place with you guys!! This has been extremely difficult for me trying to find a unit for me and my daughter but the staff here has made it exceptionally easy and safe in the process of trying to move in! (Especially during COVID-19) I appreciate you guys from the bottom of my heart! Such a great team ! read more

BE AWARE!! I AM WARNING YOU! I wish I could have read the review before dealing with this people. They are running a scam to cash on the $35 dollars application fee for the properties that they have listed. We applied no for one but for 2 places and they told us that "the owner" has already rented to or choose other applicants. I can tell you that is lie. After 3 weeks I can still see their post on Craiglist about these places for rent. These people cannot be trust. I asked a friend to contact about those place to see if they were available and they were when they told us they already rent it. I am so disappointing!!!! read more

Lynette and her staff are very professional and will respond to your concerns and questions in a very timely manner. Bartels found an excellent tenant for my rental and also managed my rental property. I highly recommend Bartels without any reservations for anyone looking for a property manager. read more

Bartels Property Management family and staff took excellent care of my property .. a house rental .. for over 20 years. One renter remained in the house throughout those 20 years and whenever it became a bit problematical in one way or another, I always understood that Bartels were completely on top of it. It wasn't always convenient and easy for them since I live outside of the United States, but we were able to communicate concerns back and forth online or by telephone. This included a major repair to the back walls which they contracted and supervised and of which they kept me fully informed, including on-line photos of the work. My mind at rest! Lynette Bartels was easy to contact and meet with whenever we were in the US....supportive, informative and quick to resolve our concerns and answer our questions. When we decided to sell the property last year it was an easy transfer to initiate that process thru Renee and the sale went smoothly. It must be apparent that we were happy to be in their experienced hands for all those years! (It was my childhood home left to me by my mother --- the house has sentimental value!) read more

I called on my only day off to look at a unit here but lady on phone was so rude & said she didnt know if an apt was a top unit. She didnt even try to answer a simple question, so i dont feel comfortable renting through them. read more

I went to turn in an application on a Friday. I was interested in 3 properties. They told me 2 of them were already rented. That afternoon, I'm on craigslist and they've posted the same 3 properties THAT SAME DAY on craigslist. I look at their website and it indeed says 2 of the 3 properties are pending lease, but then why would they list them on craigslist that same day? A week later, they've posted one of the pending apartments on craigslist again. I can't say I have a lot of experience dealing with this property management company, but it seems to me they are running a scam to cash in on that $35 application fee. There's even a disclaimer on the application that says something along the lines of "your application has a marginal chance of being looked at." If it ends up working out and I get an apartment through Bartels, I will write an update. But they don't seem very trustworthy, imo. read more

I posted my landlord situation here before as some read. Lynette came through and wrote me a nice letter about my rental history, could see the issues, and made sure the electrical was fixed by a licensed electrician. Most of the issues were with the landlord but that is hopefully over too so we can all move on, be safe, and have good lives. He put the place up for sale and we were given our notice to vacate. I wish him peace and Much Love in his life. read more

Bartels staff are very friendly, attentive, and professional. During this time they were conscious of COVID safety protocols, which I definitely appreciated. They were also very flexible with my schedule in setting up appointments that worked for me. Working with them was an effortless experience. Thank you Bartels for all your help. read more

Friendly staff BUT they seriously can not help you find a home. Don't even waste your time with them. You are better off going to a bank and owning a home. 9/10 of the rentals properties are terrible, they make you believe you are the perfect candidate but you never get a property with them. You can all the prefect qualifications and they still wouldn't pull your application: this company is a waste. read more

They made us jump through a bunch of hoops. First we had to drive by the house, then make an appointment to see the house, finally go to their office to turn in the application with all of our documentation. To only find out that that the "pet friendly" listing would only allow one 15 pound pet. We have two small dogs so they turned us away. When all of this could have been avoided if they had more specific and accurate information about the listings on their website. Waste of time glad we did not waste our money on an application. read more

These people are just a waste of time. Nomatter how good your income, credit history, credit report is but they will still turn you down as they just want to make only income out of your application fee. They will show you the apartment with a cheap pricing and get your application fee per person and will always have the excuse of owner of the particular property being away if you call for an update regarding your application. And finally will tell you that the lease has been signed by another person. I had applied more than 2 properties through them and all I got was same bullshit excuses of owner being away and got leased by someone else everytime. Such a waste of time!! NEVER waste your time with these useless people. read more

I was trying to find a house and they are very unresponsive and very uncooperative. They are running a scam and very rude. They take your money run your credit and will not give you the house you want and will consistently lie to you. They keep you in a loop and take advantage of your necessity to get a house or apartment for rent. The manager is a rude bigot. They say you are 2 or 3 for what ever place you pick. Than that place will still be online. I would not recommend this. read more

The management of this agency his run by 2 ladies who are extremely rude and discourteous. I have been living in a house rented from them for a few years and when I had to fix something in the property they sent the least qualified professionals in the area. Probably the worst experience. The ladies working there are rude, lack customer service and knowledge. They are not thorough with the process. People are serious inquiring on properties. We applied for a location, provided all the required documentation within a day if viewing the property. She reviewed our application and said "it should not take too long you guys qualify, we just need to run the credit" mind you, both my husband and myself have good credit. I received a notification via my credit monitor app that they ran my credit that same day. days passed my husband called in and they said it would take 10 business days because they had 8 other applicants? Days later.. We receive a call that our application was "declined" then she switched her wording and said the landlord did not "choose" our application. So we met all requirements we were just not "chosen". How are they running numerous credits, charging application fees and not informing clients there could potentially be several people applying after you, and maybe one of them will get chosen over your application. Very disappointing that there are qualifying applicants but it's not first come first serve basis. Highly unfair and disappointing. Such a scam!!!! read more

Horrible. If you are the type of person that wants to live in a quiet neighborhood then DO NOT LIVE UNDER THIS MANAGEMENT. They are careless and their apartments are filled with rude Section 8 tenants that do not have proper manners and will play loud music nonstop 24/7. Lynette and her team have been very professional with me as a tenant in the 3+ years that I've lived in one of their managed properties. Maintenance issues have consistently been resolved. They were also very communicative with tenants as Richmond's rent control ordinance went into effect and every landlord in the city was flying blind for a few months. I think most people will have good or bad experiences with Bartels based on the quality of the landlord. My landlord has consistently approved maintenance and repair requests, but a good landlord is sometimes hard to find. read more

I purchased an 8-unit apartment building in Richmond about a year and a half ago and selected Bartels to manage it. They have been great! Lynette has always been very helpful and provided me with good advice when needed. They have 2 friendly employees up front -- Sonja and Angelica -- who process rental applications, among other things, and Paula, the leasing manager who does a great job in letting tenants know what is expected of them in terms of cleaning during pre-move out inspections. They have a handyman they send out for routine fixes, to keep costs low when a licensed contractor isn't needed. And they have sources for low-cost replacement appliances. I would recommend them to any apartment owners looking for a good management company. read more

I've been living in a Bartel's managed property for almost a year now and have been very happy. We've been renting a town house under Bartels for about 7 months now. So far no issues. The rental application process was surprisingly fast. We were initially told it could take up to 2 weeks to find out if we were accepted and we heard back the following day and signed within the week! Any repairs needed they are always very quick to get someone out to the home to fix whatever I ask for. My only complaint would be that the house initially was not in the best/cleanest condition. Very dusty and many cobwebs. We had to do a lot of cleaning before moving in. I will be curious to see the charges whenever we decide to move but until then, this property mgmt has been nothing but simple to work with. read more

Best experience I ever had. I got a YELP account simply so I could let the world know how good they were. Rude, rude, rude. That's for each of the women who were rude to me. I think I'm generally polite and friendly, but they made it clear they weren't particularly interested in me or in getting those properties rented. I've seen several of their rentals. Went into the office once when they were all focused on discussing what to get for lunch. They were all irritated I was there, but their office was open and it's their job to show properties. I was somehow the bad guy bc I wanted to find a place to live. I hope the property owners are reading this too bc they only show a property 1x / day, regardless of whether you're a good candidate or not. Some of their properties are on the market for months. So the property owner is losing a lot of money waiting for rentals, and people who need housing are being treated poorly. Makes me nervous to get a property through them bc I wouldn't want to have to deal with them long term. Think I'll stick with craigslist and Zillow. read more

This property management took over for another company who was originally managing the house we were renting. First off, when we first moved into the house it was a sh** hole. "New carpets" that were covered in bleach stains. Closet doors that didn't work, the wrong sliding glass door, broken dishwasher, etc I could go on for days. So they take over and come in to do a walk through on our house, which later on they admit they lost all paperwork/files. We originally decided to move out when they wanted to raise the rent on us. We put in our 30 day notice in July and beginning of august we were moved out and had deep cleaned the house which they walked through and stated how great of a job we did. We replaced 3 sets of blinds along with fixing the front and back yards. When we got what we thought was our down deposit it was a notice that they expected 800$+ dollars after the 2500$ deposit in deductions which included 750$ in late fees we were never notified of as well as unpaid rent 813$ from 9/1-9/12 and stated we did not put in a notice until 8/15 (she never entered out notice and assured us this would not be a problem) so when my boyfriend calls the office he is told she is walking out the door (30 mins to close) he told them he would be there in 2 minutes to speak with her and she said "Do not come here" and hung up in his face. These people will take you for everything you have and some. They are a SCAM and they are the worst property management I have EVER delt with. They are never willing to explain anything to you or even listen to anything they are rude and inconsiderate and I hope NO ONE EVER USES THIS PROPERTY MANAGMENT. read more

My husband and I used Bartels for about seven years. We have nothing but PRAISE. We first had Bartels manage one of our rentals of a duplex. They did an excellent job. We ended up having to terminate the least with the tenants and Bartels was on the job taking care of the procedure (which could have been ugly because the tenants left the place a mess and felt they still should get ALL of their deposit back). The last four years we decided to actual rent a condo on the Marina through Bartels. Again, excellent, professional service. We loved the place and after four years decided to move to relocate. After making sure we left the condo in the condition they gave it to us (that does mean you have to have the carpets professionally cleaned people). We received al of our deposit back. This review isn't because we got back our deposit back (because I am actually late writing our review by two months), it's because they are better than people realize. It's more common to write a review when you are not pleased (rather it's wrong on your behalf or not), but we are bad at taking time out and give praise where and when it is needed. So if you need their services don't hesitate to use them. Thanks Lynnette for all your help. I appreciate you even taking the time and give me personal advice regarding the situation with our rental. I am sorry it took me so long to write the review, but you and your office is the best. I hope you know who I am because I am not leaving my name.
