LOVE LOVE LOVE. always a fan of Bartaco but was so excited there is one on the Southshore! Perfect addition and the service was 10/10. The wait staff was quick to seat us and helped us choose the best menu items. My favorite drink is their spicy margarita with a tajin rim! We got multiple different tacos and the duck birria. Overall a Taco Bell experience for high money. Ordering and service is strange. Place your order yourself on paper? Flip a card to check in with your server? Not for sit down prices, thank you very much. It's overall awkward, uncomfortable and weird. Drinks are awfully weak. And super expensive. Taste good but there's hardly any alcohol in there. Not worth it by any means for drinks. We knew the tacos were street sized and expected such. However the shrimp taco for example had two tiny (like the large shrimp in a can sized) shrimp on it. Maybe a tablespoon total of any filling on any taco INCLUDING the slaw/accouterments if you're lucky. Flavor was lacking in every one of the multiple tacos we had. Bland, unseasoned, boring. Overall this place is filled with kids under 10 (even sitting at the bar)and priced like better Mexican places. Honestly after the bill we felt ripped off (and still hungry and thirsty). read more

The quality of food was an embarrassment to the derby street community. I got the seared chorizo tacos as one of my many choices, but let me tell you... that taco made me think I tried road kill for the first as a main dish. I'm not happy, and I think I need therapy because of how bad that food was. Therefore I will give Bartaco a generously whopping 1.6/10. Water is the only decent thing you can get there! read more

Wow. Our college kids RAVE about Bartaco which inspired us to plan a birthday celebration for our family there. It was a complete disaster...despite the loveliness and total embarrassment of our server A who apologized the entire night. Could a taqueria actually be out of two types of Mexican beer? Yes! And it could take 20-30 minutes just to learn that a requested beer was not available TWICE then even longer to receive a canned beer and no glass. Could you have to request water over and over again while eating spicy food? Yes! Could the food trickle out slowly and painfully and ultimately incompletely over the two and a half plus hours we were there? Yes! Our server made a point of comping us for the one canned beer we received and the last round of tacos that were missed. She tried to salvage the night with comped birthday churros (but only brought four for a party of seven). Even the Bartaco regulars in our group were apologetic and horrified...we wanted to love you as much as they and all their friends did. While our server cited "staffing issues" which led them to "stop seating people", a restaurant of this high reputation should be better. As a family, we decided to tip A generously because of how overwhelmed and stressed she was (and how hard she tried to salvage an abysmal dining experience). read more

This was our fourth trip to Bartaco at Derby St. We love the atmosphere, the drinks are delicious and it's also family-friendly. Our favorites on the menu are the trio, chicken, pork belly and cauliflower tacos. The kids trays are perfect for our girls too, and our 9 year old specifically requested Bartaco for her birthday dinner. The service has always been friendly and accommodating, and we look forward to returning again soon! read more

The worst part though was their margaritas to go. I ordered a double for $28, OMG the biggest rip off ever...It barely made one drink. Never again! Well, I will give this place another try given that it was the Saturday night before Christmas and everyone as out shopping and keeping the stores packed! I can say that this was my first experience and I was quite excite. To try the new restaurant. The bartender who served us was not friendly and did not realize we were seated. I ordered guacamole per the menu item but was given a small guacamole and the bartender did not clarify with me what I was ordering for size. My husband's meal came out a long time after the guacamole so I was waiting for him to finish - so much that I left him to go shopping while he was still waiting for his food. It was very loud in the retardant that it was uncomfortable. Perhaps it's an acoustic design issue or perhaps people were very boisterous. I'll try again on a less busy night. The food tasted fine. My husband said the tacos were mediocre. hopefully a better eating experience next time. There are some other spots in Hingham that have excellent taco dishes that we recommend instead read more

confusing order process! too many people involved with serving 1 party. visited Hingham January 11,2025 for lunch. we were a party of 3 women,and they got everything wrong! brought wrong drinks, with a major attitude from server Peter, brought wrong food as well. they took back what was wrong,but after leaving I saw on the itemized receipt,that we were charged for what they got wrong as well as right! added at least $30 if not more,to our bill! in this economy, that is really poor! won't be going back! read more

2 stars are for the food. I went here a few weeks ago and had great food and our food came out with no toppings and Eli who wasn't even our waiter came over and fixed it immediately. I was so excited to come back! Fast forward to last night we go around 5:30 and it is packed which is expected, we asked for Eli and we were told there has never been an Eli there. We were told 20 minutes and so we went to the paper store and looked around. After 20 minutes we came back and proceeded to wait 40 more minutes for our table (we did not care how long the wait was but we waited 1 hour compared to 20 minutes we were told and would've kept shopping had we known). We were seated and we got our appetizer and drinks within 5 minutes. Then it went downhill. We waited 45 more minutes for the rest of our food, not one person came over to tell us our food would be out soon or anything. When our food finally came, someone else dropped off our food and said nothing to us, just put it on the table. My tacos were ice cold and my sister asked for onions to be omitted from her tacos so instead of just the onions they took all toppings off and just left the meat. Nobody came over to ask how anything was and we were ignored while everyone else had waitresses coming and asking if they needed anything. Food is amazing (when it's not cold) very disappointed in service and quality. Hopefully they improve because I recommended it to everyone! read more

we were waiting for over an hour as tables all around us got service. food took so long, one of our meals was forgotten, didn't get drinks until after our food. no apology despite the manager coming over for our order. so bad the waiter even offered one drink to go since we had been waiting for so long. it was blatantly so bad and not even sure who's fault it was. the food runner was the only upside as he was the only one outwardly nice to us. i think it was a case of us being a group of young people but that was truly the worst service i've ever received. i will not be back which is a shame since the food was pretty good. read more

Chaos. Went Saturday afternoon around 4:40 pm. Waited well over an hour with several open tables and booths. When I inquired with the host, he seemed to have forgotten to even check the wait list. Seems like we were waiting for nothing. After being seated we were served other peoples food, appetizers were forgotten and brought out haphazardly then the rice bowls that we ordered as our main meal so to speak were also forgotten. Our waiter upon being seated was noticeably irritated with something and then he disappeared for the night. We were left sitting there for 40 minutes until I went to the host station again and inquired what happened to our waiter ?? seems as though he left but no one noticed, and there was no replacement for him. Last, but not least the overhead music was loud and obnoxious, not enjoyable at all. Overall, not a good experience. The two bartenders were great - attentive and personable.
