I was able to take the MUNI train from the Castro District to the Embarcadero Station, where it conveniently connects to BART. The ride was smooth, efficient, and made getting across the city quick and easy. At about $3 for a ride, it's also very affordable. The train itself had plenty of open seating, and the ride felt comfortable overall. Moving forward, I'll definitely be utilizing the MUNI system more often to get around different neighborhoods/districts in San Francisco.

But if you catch it during rush hour, be prepared to be packed in like a sardine and standing up. If you're sitting in the back, I'd recommend getting up and starting to walk toward the door or ringing the bell early so you're ready to get off. Luckily or at the beginning of the ride, I got the experience of semi empty bus...but at each stop then by the Financial District area, it was pretty much packed that it was also suffocating! It's an experience that everyone should try. Hahaha

It's a great way to avoid traffic and the hassle of finding parking in busy areas, especially in San Francisco, CA. What I appreciate most about this station is the ample parking, clean restrooms, and overall ease of access. Each train ride has been comfortable, with decent seating and efficient travel times that make getting into the city fairly quick. The round-trip fares are also reasonably priced without necessarily breaking the bank. Overall, I will continue returning to the Walnut Creek BART station for my Bay Area travel needs, especially for trips into the heart of San Francisco.

How have I never reviewed Church Street Station? Something feels amiss. . . …read more Church Street! The real heart of the Castro even though Castro Street and Castro Street Station are the showier hearts of the Castro. I guess it's like the Golden Gate Bridge; part of it isn't even in San Francisco, and it's nowhere near Downtown, yet it gets way more representational play than the Bay Bridge, which is closer to the heart of San Francisco than the Golden Gate Bridge is. Man, what a boring review. It can feel like a boring station, or a continuation of Castro Street Station, because they're identically designed. But walking up the stairs onto Market Street from Church Street Station is a much grander entrance to the Castro, because you're not in a (Harvey Milk) plaza, you're smack dab in the middle of all the mancandy and boywatching and bearstaring and lookylooing (for us straight visitors). Take me to Church (Street Station), indeed.

Whether I'm hanging out downtown, relaxing in the Richmond, or frolicking in the Tenderloin / City Center, this bus is the one to take. Plus, it's way faster than the regular 38 Geary. When traffic is flowing, its only feels like minutes before this bus hits the downtown area from its starting point. Not all buses are created equal. I can name far too many buses that have their share of frequent shady characters, shoddy bus routes, and infrequent times. Thankfully for the 38L, these things aren't ever really an issue. There is one issue. Because everyone loves the 38L, it tends to be one of the more crowded buses. Getting a seat is near impossible during rush hour and many of the stops are stacked with eager commuters. Listen to the automated Spanish and Cantonese prompts while holding onto the rail straps for dear life. Ignore the delinquent teens and give your seat up to the elderly Chinese woman. She probably rides the bus way more than you do.

They went down the stairs, escalators, and elevators. The journey to the center was a quiet one, one of reflection, and one of solitude. It was a time to reflect on life, the history and meaning of the station, the magnificent feat of engineering, and the groceries or nom noms bought from the ancient city within the city, the historic landmark, the national, and frankly global, treasure, that is SF Chinatown. True to human form, a testament to perseverance and endurance, elderly folks were also making the long journey up the long staircases. Just like what you see on the characteristic, steeply graded slopes of SF's iconic hills, there were elderly groups making the trek up and down. The wait time was short, and the station was clean. It was very well lit, and it seemed like a very long descent. It felt safe too with security features everywhere. It was an enjoyable experience going through the station with all the arts displays and historic relics on display. It did speak to the hardships that our families endured or worked through in the old factories that used to be there. Our community has a voice; these are very important points in history that should not be forgotten or lost.

I took the Downtown Route from downtown to Presidio Tunnel Tops. I like this option because otherwise I would have to take the MUNI 43 bus, which is out of the way when coming from downtown. The Downtown Route ends at the Presidio Transit Center, next to the Presidio Visitor Center, where you can transfer to the South Hills Route to reach other destinations throughout the Presidio. The Downtown Route makes stops at: * 50 Beale Street * Drumm & California * Letterman Digital Arts Center * Tides Converge * Presidio YMCA * Presidio Transit Center I really like having this free shuttle option because it makes getting to the Presidio much easier without having to drive. It's especially convenient for visiting the museums, YMCA, Tunnel Tops, and other attractions in the Presidio. Overall, the Presidio Go Shuttle Downtown Route is a great transportation option for locals and visitors, especially if you don't want to drive or worry about parking.

The stop aren't marked like the MUNI bus stops are, but you can trust that it'll follow the maps which are on its website. For this review, I took it from the Embarcadero stop (outside the Hyatt Regency, where the MUNI 12 bus stops) and took it to the Presidio entrance. It used to be a semi free shuttle with only some times available to those who didn't live in the Presidio, but they opened it up to be fully free to everyone some years ago. There are two sizes of buses which I've seen, one which is smaller and one which is larger, but both kinds are decorated with a mostly white motif. For a free shuttle bus, it's great. My only caveat would be that it's not too frequent and the stops are very limited.
