Good sweat
Chris S.

My buddy signed me up for a class and I'm hooked. 50 minutes high energy and good variety of cardio, weights and resistance exercises. The protein juices are good and I like the pre ordering process.

I always try to hit up Barry's when I'm traveling to a different city. What I love is that Barry's is consistent pretty much anywhere you go! You're guaranteed great instructors and a damn good workout! Thanks for having me, Seattle!

I'm a fan of Barry's. It's trendy, gets you sweaty, and makes you walking away feeling like a badass. There are two stations: a treadmill and a weight floor. You can book your spot ahead online, which can alleviate anxiety about arriving early to maybe get your favorite tread/weight floor spot. The workout room is very dark, with minimal lighting, almost feeling like you're in a nightclub. Once you're in the 50-minute class, there aren't large breaks like you may experience in other fitness classes. On the treadmills, you'll be running at different speeds and includes over varying amounts of time, as guided by your fitness coach. Simultaneously, the coach will be leading the weight floor through their exercises, so you'll have to listen closely to hear your cues. While the treadmill intervals I did in my class were fairly short, I found them challenging with the speed and inclines. However, you can easily adjust up or down to make it more or less depending on your needs. I took the class on a full body workout day. I was impressed with the quantity of exercises we were able to get through, and how each one burned! By using a series of bands, weights, and body weight, I felt like the workout was pretty comprehensive. Again, you have to listen closely and pay attention to follow along. The instructor will do a quick demo and speak quickly, and then you're off to do the workout. At the conclusion of the workout, stretching time is allocated. Because the studio is relatively small and efficient in spacing, the folks who end on the treadmill have to stay there as their stretching area (if you have to lay down/sit to stretch, you're lying/sitting on the tread). Walking out of the fitness area, a staff member has a cold wet scented towel for you to wipe yourself off with. It was super refreshing and smelled like mint. Some folks pre-order post-workout smoothies that are ready for pickup after class. There's a variety of fuel options, ranging from $9-11. I was impressed with the cleanliness and aesthetics of the entire facility (including the restroom). There's also exclusive lululemon Barry's apparel designed for the workouts. A la carte class pricing is a bit on the high end, with classes as high as $30/class (single class purchase), or as low as $20/class with special introductory offers. There's also monthly membership packages that drop the price per class, depending on the frequency of your visits. One thing to note about the pricing when comparing it to other fitness establishments is that Barry's offers a great towel service. There is no private parking for Barry's, but you can park in the Whole Foods parking garage across the street and get parking waived with a purchase.

Man do I love trying new things!! I tried Barry's a while back before the pandemic and it was definitely crowded and hard to find a locker. I started doing some of the instructors workouts via Instagram when the pandemic hit (Shout out to Evan for legit kicking my ass via IG LOL). Spending some time away from gyms, I wanted to come and try it out again! I would suggest come earlier so you can find parking since parking is either Whole Foods where you need to buy something for two hour validation or street parking. The overall workout was great and lovely to workout with Evan again! The staff was wonderful and bathrooms stocked with all the towels and items you need! If you're in Seattle come try Barry's out!!

This employee refused to let me join the 7:15am class on Saturday because I was not on the roster. I signed up for the class the night before using ClassPass but there must have been a glitch with the app because I was not enrolled when I showed up to jump in. I explained this to this person (name unknown) and offered to sign up for a later class to join this one (so my ClassPass credits were accounted for) since I couldn't make a later class, I'd already made the trip, and they shared with me spots were still available. After driving from Snohomish and joining a class before, I should have received better customer service. This employee said my only option was buying a pass from the gym.

I really enjoyed my workout at Barry's! I've heard so much about it, and being a regular at Orangetheory I'm no stranger to the format. For those who are unfamiliar, Barry's is a treadmill and floor/weights workout. You spend about half your time running on the tread and the other half doing weighted or unweighted exercises on the floor stations. What I liked: Barry's workouts vary in focus depending on the day. I went to an Abs and Ass workout which is every Thursday. So you can choose what days to attend depending on what areas of your body you want to focus on. What I would change: the workout is very fast-paced, which is great if you're experienced but not so much if you're new. The coach did demonstrate every exercise for us but the transitions happen so quickly, and if you didn't have a good view of her then it's easy to miss what's going on. There also wasn't much 1:1 coaching or correction because of how fast the class was moving, so there were times when I wasn't sure if I was doing an exercise correctly and would've benefitted from some guidance. I would definitely go back though, because the different focus days + the in-house smoothie bar (which is a great opportunity to make friends!) are important perks.

The coaches never hang up on the minor details (eg. when I already have unlimited membership, I keep forgetting to sign up and they just always smile about it, and punch me into the system, this wasn't the case with every gym). When I'm late to the class and I can safely join the workout I've just alway welcomed to join in. This place makes the barrier to entry into your workout a breeze. I've tried CF gyms all across the US and EU and 90% of the time I had a positive experience in all of them, but Felix tops it all! And the best part whenever I come back to Felix, I can alway get my original rates back.

My first encounter with SSP was a Saturday morning Metabolic Conditioning class. For someone who doesn't really know her way around weights & equipment and was def more out of shape than the other folks there, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Everyone was SO friendly and made me feel like I was joining a community as soon as I walked through the door. Throughout the entire hour, Ro led our class of about 10-15 people through a series of high-intensity interval training workouts and made sure we were all appropriately pushed to our limits. Every exercise was super form-focused and accessible to different skill levels and abilities. I may have felt like I needed to vom and/or pass out a couple of times but, more than anything, I was v proud of myself for challenging my body. Since that class, I have returned and worked out with a number of the other trainers (Meg, Ana, and Jay) who are all equally attentive, encouraging, and just the best. The exercises they prepare are always tough, fun, and never the same. I never thought I'd be one to use kettlebells, TRX, and battle ropes but here I am, getting a little stronger every time I go to SSP.
