Fabulous trainers. joe Nicastro is the exceptional but all of the instructors are great. The Barry's program is a good push but also damage. There are moments when your instructor and you connect on an amicable level and it can truly be very motivating for physical as well as personal growth. Thank you Barry's! The staff is always attentive, of course. The facility is good. During 2020 the gym really did present itself as boutique, as of late it has waves of exceptional customer service. I changed my mind about the class, but I just went to the smoothie bar instead and got the Skinny bitch. It's more like shake but this probably wouldn't be my top choice. The staff is friendly, and wasn't able to find my name on the class roster. But I think that was just a sign to slow down and take a more gentle approach. My goal is to get to Barry soon. read more

I moved from Boston to Chicago a month ago was so excited to see that Barry's expanded to the Chicago area! The two-floor studio is beautiful (those locker rooms?!?) and extremely well-maintained. Everyone on the staff is super friendly and welcoming. Opening weekend was (understandably) very chaotic, but they handled it with smiles on their faces. Took two classes (with Spencer and Andrew) and both of them really paid attention to each person in the class, making it feel tailor-made. I will definitely be back and can't wait to bring my Chicago friends/family with me! read more

I don't know... I'm conflicted writing this review. There was technically nothing wrong with the actual wotkout, it was decent, but it just seems that for the price you pay here it should be better than decent and a much more enjoyable customer experience. Also, for the price you pay I feel like the staff should be upbeat and greatful that you're there... Not rude and short with customers acting like its a burden to have to answer a question. I have taken 3 classes here: the first instructor was a creepy man, the second was kind of a bitch, and the third was ok but just didnt seem like she wanted to be there. I wanted to like this place since I live down the street... The good news is that there are no shortages of fitness options in River North. read more

I honestly do not understand the hype. The amenities and facilities are very nice, and the juice bar is outstanding, but I didn't have a great experience at all with my workout. The incline on my treadmill was not working, so I wasn't able to do any of treadmill blocks with inclines. The instructor was pretty good, but the structure of the class has them cuing so much for time between the floor and the treads that they almost have no time to cue at all to form, and for sure are not able to give individual corrections or modifications. read more

I've been twice now and found both workouts to be challenging and fun. The locker rooms are amazing, but what i love is the workout. The workout splits your time between the "decks" (benches, mixed strength and cardio) with treadmill segments. But unlike shred, the segments vary in length each time there might be more than four segments. Every workout is different and designed by each trainer, unlike orange theory where corporate designs the workouts. It is hard, especially if you follow the trainer's guidance on speeds for the tread segments. They run fast at barry's and so far the crowd leans young but nicely split between guys and women. Both classes were with Kate -- she's funny and she provides the right balance of motivation, challenge and form instruction. This is in my mix of classes from now on. read more

Barry's Bootcamp is crazy! I've never experienced such a hard workout, I honestly got my ass kicked! I enjoyed the workout, the trainer, the welcome staff, the facility itself, and of course the juice bar. I will definitely go back and try another class, after I regain my confidence and strength! (I'm writing this review several days after my 1st class and my abs are still sore.) I went with 4 out of 5 stars only because in my 1st class the trainer just shouted out commands and drills and I didn't know all of them. I workout with a personal trainer 2 days a week so I understood the basic ideas but I would have appreciated a little more explanation. UPDATE: I've been doing Barry's regularly, (about 3 times a week) it's a really great workout. Brett is an excellent trainer, I like his class the best, he is beyond motivating. (Sunday morning: "welcome to fucking church everyone! Are you ready to sweat? Let's get it!") I also like Andrew and Spencer's classes. Andrew is really good about demonstrating the exercises and quickly explaining the routine. Cole teaches a class on Monday's at 12:30, it's excellent because there's all of maybe 8 people in the class, it mirrors my sessions with my personal trainer and is a 1/4 of the cost. Spencer is by far the HARDEST trainer at Barry's. (His incline obsession is no joke, literally 7 incline and a 7 mph run.) I appreciate the friendliness and attentiveness of all the staff, the front desk has been nothing but a pleasure to interact with. On a number of occasions I've asked them numerous questions and even went to far as to ask them to print out a shipping label for me from Amazon, of course they obliged. Alex in the juice bar on the first floor is the best, he makes my Skinny Vanilla protein shake PERFECTLY, (I very much appreciate that.) Ultimately, I am happy that Barry's has come to Chicago, such a great addition to the Chicago fitness community. ONE MORE THING: BARRY! GET AN APP! I hate having to log into the website, select the studio, blah blah blah. I want to click an app, launch the program, pick my class, call it a day! Take a hint from FlyWheel, CREATE AN APP! read more

Barry's River North - Interval Training Gyms Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Had to cancel a class a couple of weeks back to postpone to a later date due to an injury I had. There was so much push back from the staff due to the expiration date and I had to fight to finally get it postponed for a week. Today I called because it is snowing and I wanted to see if I could push out my class to a later date that would make more sense when it's not snowing outside and the staff would not allow it. Staff finally got Colton the manager on the phone who I tried to explain the situation to, but since I already cancelled once to postpone the class he wouldn't allow another one in the same quarter. He responded with "its Chicago it's always snowing here and people are coming still" I told him I just moved here and am a loyal customer. I don't feel comfortable going in the snow. Unfortunately I feel there is no care for the customers and the focus is only on making $$. I had to fight so hard to try to do this and my reasoning are true and valid. I'm not just cancelling for no reason. I used to go to Barry's in the Bay Area where my experiences were 1,000 times better and you felt like they cared. Sucks moving to Chicago and now thinking I won't be going to Barry's anymore. read more

I love Barry's! I went as a guest of a friend who is a member recently and I was so impressed I just signed up for a monthly membership today (after a bad experience at Orange Theory recently). Barry's is a great workout and I love that it is an even balance between cardio and weight training, but with the option to skip the treadmill and stick to weights if you are injured and can't run, or just don't want to. The instructor was super friendly and high energy, and the front desk staff were super welcoming. The only thing I would improve is that the locker area is super cramped and going up and down those stairs leading to the studio after leg day is not fun. :) I've already booked my next 5 classes and can't wait to start seeing the results! read more

I love the workouts. The instructors are the best in Chicago. They make the workout challenging and offer inspiration. They play great music that makes me forget how hard I am working. The instructors give a ton of great tips, I learn new ways to workout and ways to improve my form at every class. The protein shakes are amazing and reasonably priced. Wes, the Manager at the River North location, is the best. I emailed and he responded very quickly and provided excellent customer service. I could not ask for more. read more

Amazing! Staff is super friendly, location is great, fuel bar is awesome! The classes are super hard which is what I need and I can really push myself. I agree it might not be great for beginners as it does move super fast, but once you get the hang of it, it is awesome! read more

Barry's was really awesome. The instructor, Alex K, was super encouraging and did a great job at explaining what the class was supposed to do. I loved the facility, very clean and organized. The one flaw I can think of is that since yesterday was my first time at Barry's or any sort of boot camp class of that matter, I would have at least liked a quick rundown of what went on at Barry's. I arrived 20 minutes early for this purpose, but when I walked into the facility the guy at the Fuel Bar was actually the most helpful, I told him it was my first time at Barry's and he happily told me where the registration desk was upstairs and how I could pre-order my post workout smoothie with him if need be. But when I went upstairs to sign in the girl at the desk just told me what treadmill I was on and that was it. I stood there awkwardly for a second and said again that it was my first time here so then she told me where the women's locker room was. The locker room was really nice, a little small I thought for a place that has about 35 people in each class, but clean and had all the amenities necessary to get in and out. I'm going back to Barry's tomorrow because I thought it was such a great workout! But, the girls upstairs could have been a little more helpful since the lobby was empty and I didn't even know where the actual studio was (I had to follow people in to make sure). Loved it though! read more

Great cardio! This was my first time to this location, I am from Atlanta so I had only been to that studio prior to coming here. The instructor "Scotty" was very easy to understand and kept the class upbeat! I'll be back when traveling to Chicago! Also, what better way to fight off the cold weather than to get your blood flowing?! read more

Loved this workout! Sweated like crazy. Great energy, the music was fantastic--can't wait to go back. Hit the Fuel Bar after for a delicious PB&J smoothie. An awesome addition to Chicago's workout scene--so happy Barry's is finally here!! read more

Not Bad! Attended for a non-profit fundraiser yesterday. I had registered online, but I guess it wasn't done properly so I had to fill out a sheet. The front desk guy had a slight attitude towards it. Sorry that technology isn't reliable sometimes! Overall, the class itself was challenging and the music playlist was AMAZING. Great energy. read more

I am addicted to group fitness - and once I get clearance from my Physical Therapist to start running, I will definitely enjoy these classes. I wasn't sure about Barry's, but after the customer service I received today, I am excited to give this place a try. This review is based solely on their customer service: I bought a gift card for my sister and unfortunately their system was unable to apply the gift card to her account. There was some run around with if this card was even valid. I spoke with Ignacio - assistant Studio Manager- over the phone and he handled my bitchiness very well. He was patient and sure that he can get this fixed. After a few emails showing that I was charged - he was able to apply the amount to my sister's account. Thank you Ignacio!!! You made this jerk have faith in the fitness industry's ability to provide Customer Service!!!! read more

I loved Barry's- instructor was great, went on a Friday at 12:30. I just wish it wasn't so expensive! Ahhh- I literally love it so much I would volunteer here a few times a week for discounted classes! Of all the overpriced gym classes- this is my favorite! read more

Love Barry's Bootcamp River North! After my first class, I couldn't wait to come back. If you are looking for a high intensity cardio & strength training workout, Barry's is for you. You either start on the treadmill or the floor and do 2-3 rounds of each! The trainers are great as well. They give modifications to prevent injury, but still get a good burn in! My favorite instructor is Kate L who teaches at this location & Lincoln Park. I would highly recommend her class because she is amazing!! After class, cool down with a wet towel & a protein shake at the Fuel Bar! My favorite shake is the Acai Berry! So fruity & delicious! When I go to classes after work, I grab a shake for dinner after class! Worth it. If you are in the area visiting or working, I would definitely recommend trying it out for yourself! read more

Barry's Boot Camp is a fun and laid-back environment. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. And there playlist of music is excellent. The locker rooms are very clean, neat and organized. They have spent a lot of time making sure the ambience was perfect. If you're looking for a new gym I highly recommend Barry's. read more

This is a review on the Fuel Bar. A friend and I came into the RN location this morning (we did not take a class but the fuel bar has the most variety of smoothies in Chicago, IMO) at 6:55am, it wasn't until 7:07 we walked out with our smoothies. I understand this can be a busy time but when we arrived there were only a few others in the lobby and one person behind us in line at that time. Once we ordered the person behind us ordered and more ppl did arrive....she continued to hold my credit car (not sure why) while she took multiple orders. It did not make sense to us, perhaps there should be another person at the fuel bar during the busy AM hours. It should not take 12 minutes to order and get a smoothie. read more

I used to be a big fan but things have gone downhill. I've been in many classes where shirtless men just make up their own routine which is incredibly distracting, I have had my spot given away 4 minutes before class because I couldn't make it during rush hour, and I've had teachers totally ignore my need for modifications due to injury. There are too many other fitness options in chicago, and I won't spend my money there anymore. read more

I went to the first class on the first day taught by the infamous Joey G of Barry's Bootcamp fame. I've been to Shred 415 on a regular basis since they opened their first space on Clybourn so I knew what type of workout to expect. Other reviewers making comments on disorganization the first day? Gimme a break. Have some patience and go with it. Another reviewer commenting "who copied who" in reference to Shred and Barry's being the same...it's pretty obvious since Barry's has been around a lot longer. Barry's space on Erie destroys any of Shred's locations as far as aesthetics and amenities (I've been to all of them in the city plus Hinsdale). It is spectacularly large and finished with a sleek vibe. Now to the important part - the class. It was equally as challenging as Shred. Shred has definitely lost something in finding quality instructors since they have so many locations. I've actually started to travel to Old Town to take a certain instructor's class even though I'm walking distance from Shred's South Loop location. I personally believe Shred should've maintained quality and stopped at 2 Chicago locations. Even though Shred is on ClassPass, I'm over it and I'm willing to pay a little more for Barry's and try something new in a space that feels more comfortable. I'm taking off a star for the silliness of refusing a request to turn the fans on during a full class. 45 minutes into the class they were turned on for 1 minute. Not sure of the logic other than a good sweat. read more

I walked in knowing I was going to die, I walked out knowing I found my workout regimen. Two weeks in, I'm seeing changes in my body, energy and attitude.. positive and good changes. The space is very spacious, clean and they are well organized. The classes are amazing and every instructor has lived up to every expectation.. Matt, and Andrew are my absolute favorite but their playlists are fire! They believe in the Barry family.. and I see it's all around me.. pre, during and post class.. the energy they bring only motivates you more. Recommended for first timers and advanced 'worker-outlets'... read more

Normally love this workout, but experienced poor customer service the last time I went. I initially signed up for a Floor position, but ended up being able to switch to Double Floor 5 minutes before class. I went into the class & was getting set up at my newly assigned station, and then a Barry's employee said he had booked that spot. He didn't offer to leave the class or switch with me, despite the fact that I was a paying customer. He had me go back to the front desk and get reassigned to my original Floor position. I did not feel like he represented Barry's well by having me sort out a situation myself, rather than help. read more

This was my first time at a Barry's bootcamp and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed. The staff at the Fuel Bar, specifically Colin, were all very welcoming when we first walked in. They offered to have our drinks ready and waiting when we got finished with class, which was a one of a kind service! The total body class we took was awesome, felt like I got a great workout in. Spencer was a High energy and positive instructor who made the class fun and the hour went by quickly. The facility is beautiful and the staff were all very welcoming. Again, the Fuel Bar was super yummy with many options for a variety of smoothies. I'll definitely stop in for just the Fuel Bar again. read more

I am a loyal OTF customer and went to Barry's for the 2nd time on Saturday. My first experience was good, but my second experience on Saturday was energetic and powerful. Matt D. has made me seriously consider a switch to Barry's. His energy was infectious and had me motivated beyond words. I can't wait to get on his schedule! read more

Full disclosure: I've only attended one full-body class here. It struck me as a bizarre experience. The staff is friendly enough, the facilities are clean and well-maintained- a bit small, but considering the central city location, it makes sense. What was odd here is that the workout is presented on their website as being appropriate for beginners, but it's clearly not. The instructor provided very little instruction on how to execute the free weight lifts properly and provided no instruction on scaling down or scaling up the workout for both treadmill and 'floor' portions. For the inexperienced attendee, especially one with an injury, the results could be disastrous. Seems like the high cost of these classes goes mostly towards amenities (which, to be fair, are nice) and not the actual class. read more

After my package is done I will be joining Orangetheory. At Barrys anytime I have gone the men working out have to do with their shirts off from the beginning of the workout. The guys don't do that at OT. As a woman I don't need to work out with seeing this every time. read more

"I have been researching new gyms to try in the area now that my current trainer has left town. I have tried East Bank Club, Orange Theory , some CrossFit facilities , personal training at FFC , etc. Someone suggested I try Barry's Bootcamp. After researching the website , I found myself very interested. I'm trying to do less cardio than orange theory and this offered a way to skip the treadmill. The facility looked great and was very clean however , there were a few things that's turned me off. I called and said I was new and wanted to try out the gym. Everywhere else I have gone to had one free session, but here they wanted to charge $30. I can look past that provided if I became a member or bought a package, I would be able to subtract the difference. I walked in and said it was my first time. The juice bar pointed me to the locker room and said to check in upstairs. Once I made it upstairs, I again said I was new and asked what I needed to do. They checked me in and pointed me towards the studio and told me the station I would be working from. I still had no idea what to expect. The trainer said hi to everyone on the way in. Class started and I pretty much mimicked what everyone else did. I didn't expect special treatment, but I would have appreciated some extra pointers. I made the best out of it and caught on. When I left I was handed a cold towel (which was great) and went downstairs to change. I was never asked how my experience was, I wasn't given any information on plans / packages as I left. I walked out the door and was shocked. I don't expect them to push me into a membership, but customer service is everything. All it takes is a little effort to make someone feel good about their experience, especially if you want them to join the community. First impressions are everything these days and this time it cost them a client. read more

Barry's is such an amazing workout! Not only do you feel like you had your ass kicked when you walk out, you also feel energized and eager to go back! The atmosphere is great and the instructors are amazing! I've never been more motivated on a treadmill and am excited to see how much faster I can get every time I go back! The studio itself has everything you could want, down to the subtle details that set it apart from other spaces in the city. Everything from the usb plugs in the lockers to the cold towels as you walk out of class - they've thought of everything! Oh, and the fuel bar is simply the best because you don't have to deal with going somewhere else after your workout to get a post workout snack! I highly recommend trying out Barry's! read more

BEST WORKOUT EVER. All the instructors are high energy and make it fun and welcoming. There is a smoothie bar that you can preorder for after your workout, clean locker rooms with showers, and all the stuff you need, shampoo hair ties towels etc. I really appreciate that they actually clean the studio between EACH class, it's pretty awesome. I've been to places it's apparent they haven't been cleaned in years. It's a bit pricey compared to other places in town, I wish it was more affordable. But they still get 5 stars because it's the best there is. Hands down. read more

What a difference a few days make! Barry's has overcome its first day jitters and transitioned into a confident, well oiled machine. Had a challenging workout this morning with Trista--left with my abs on fire, sore and sweaty, but feeling awesome. Check in was a breeze, my smoothie was waiting for me after class (and was delicious). Thanks to Wes and the rest of the team for kicking it up a notch and providing me with a great experience from start to finish. LOVE this place! Best instructors, amazing facility, and the music is amazing! One of the best workouts in Chicago!

I am a new member to Barry's. I took Trista's class as a recommendation from a friend. I had the mindset that I wouldn't ever like Barry's as much as orange theory (which I have been doing for some time now) but Trista was an incredible teacher and totally changed my mind- I'm absolutely hooked! I went back to her class again the second day. Super informative, motivating, fun and creative exercises, not to mention the best playlist! The teacher in these classes makes or breaks the class, and Trista is a rockstar...I highly recommend giving this place a try! read more
