This is a long overdue review. I've been training here for approximately a year and physical rehabbing for the last 8-9 months. From day one, I was impressed with how clean, organized and well run OYM was/is. The owner, Emily, is personable, extremely knowledgable and very welcoming. In regards to rehabbing and training coinciding with each other, both the Physical Therapist (Sarah who is AMAZING!) and the trainers (personal and group) all communicate in regards to their mutual patient/trainee. So when in a group class or 1:1, the trainer knows to revise the exercises to accommodate your injury. Although all of the trainers seem to be good, I'd like to call out both Sean and James as I've really only have trained with them. They both know their $h!t and know when to push you as well as when they should turn it down a bit. Sean and James aren't your run-of-the-mill trainers in that they really focus on both your breathing techniques (which is a science in itself from what I've learned) as well as perfect form for your training exercises...this applies to Sarah, the head Physical Therapist. Oh and by the way, they have a second location on the west side (Francisco just north of Lake St.). Talk about a top notch facility! By far one of the most impressive training centers in Chicago, built inside what I would call a mini-warehouse. It's clean, well equipped with premium training equipment and accommodating for anyone at any level. So it's obvious, I'd highly recommend training/rehabbing here, no matter if you're a beginner or more a more advanced athlete. read more

I actually train out of the West Town location. So this review is for that location only and for one trainer in particular. What makes a gym good in my opinion isn't just the equipment but the trainers. My personal trainer is Erica Robinson (aka IG: iamemarie). I've been training with her and at this facility for over a year. The Facility/Equipment: It's not your run of the mill gym. The curation of the space and equipment is really well thought out. They also allow clients to use the hypervolts which is really helpful for post workout recovery. Also, there is free parking in the back. The showers leave a little bit to be desired. My Trainer: I've been semi-active my entire life but I have never experienced such remarkable changes in my body. I workout with her at OYM 3x a week. Def recommend you check her out for personal training/group classes. She teaches on Saturdays at 9am, usually (check the schedule to confirm. Classes: They have a variety of classes moreso focused on overall performance (speed, agility, mobility, strength, etc.). Also the classes are welcoming to everyone regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. In summary - this place is def worth a try! read more

I visited On Your Mark (OYM) with my fellow lifestyle coaches and instructors from CorePower Yoga. (who doesn't love work outings? =P) We stopped in for a circuit training session with Emily. I really loved it! I luckily snagged a parking spot in the lot they have behind their building. total WIN! I entered the building and headed down the stairs and was greeted by amiable staff that let me know where I needed to go. Emily was very encouraging without being cheerleader-like or militant like you'd get from many other trainers. She was very knowledgable about the circuit she took us through and about all the equipment we used. She motivated us and pushed, it was great! Afterwards, she invited us to stay and use the equipment all the equipment in their building to stretch. I loved that she integrated running into the circuits. I didn't realize how rusty I was at sprinting until that hard-working Wednesday when we visited OYM. The workout space includes a plethora of workout equipment; not too much to crowd the space, but they have everything one would need. Their space is very functional and promoted a feeling of excitement within me as I worked out. I hope to be back more this week to take advantage of the rest of the days of my free week trial. Thanks On Your Mark. I think I like yoooouuu! read more

In Chicago there are a plethora of gyms and personal trainers to choose from. As someone who has tried almost everything, I am more than happy to share my awesome experiences at On Your Mark Coaching And Training. Emily, Annette and their staff are extremely knowledgeable on all sides of fitness, proper form, and body composition. They are motivating, enthusiastic and the classes are HARD (this is of course in a very good way). I have tried cardio boxing (Annette), F Train (Danielle), and NTC (Emily). These are not your average workouts. These ladies are serious and really push you to your max. I also love that every time I walk in everyone (both trainers and clients) is in the zone and focused. People don't mess around here! This place is REAL DEAL if you are looking for a solid place to meet all your fitness/wellness needs. Bonus - they carry a large variety of Hammer brand supplements/gels/recovery fuels for purchase. This is the best place to stretch and roll on high quality foam rollers. These are also available to buy as well. Last but certainly not least, OYM is home to the coolest gym dog - Jack. He will greet you happily and keep you motivated throughout your workout. Come here and push yourself to the max!! read more

It's officially been a year since I joined, and I still give OYM a full 5 stars. I'd give them 10 if I could, seriously. The classes are just as challenging and engaging as when I started, and the trainers are still as attentive to ensure I am always using the proper form to maximize my results and avoid injury. I couldn't imagine working out anywhere else. I'm sure most people would agree that this was one of our more brutal winters, and I have to say that I would have taken quite a few nasty spills walking to work by now if I hadn't taken so many F-Train and F-Core classes with Annette and Emily. You don't realize how much these workouts translate into your daily lifestyle until you're put in a situation. I could literally feel my muscles kick into gear and stabilize me so I didn't fall down. Yes, F-train kept me off my butt this winter in more ways than one. If you haven't checked out OYM, I'd get a move on it. They just opened a new location in Bucktown too. I haven't been to it, but I hear it's pretty amazing; if location was an issue for you before, maybe the new location will help. Check it out, the only thing you have to lose is a path to a healthier and hotter you! read more

I discovered OYM from Gilt, where I purchased a 10 pack of classes for a great rate. Initially, I loved the variety of classes offered, perfect for an ADD workout person like myself. But due to schedule constraints, I wasn't able to sample as many as I would have liked but I did get a chance to do the signature F-Train class, Cardio Box and Pilates - which was my personal favorite. The classes were all fairly small so the trainers provide hands-on, individualized attention. The clientele is more diverse from other places I have attended; every class had people of all age groups and fitness levels, which I though was awesome. There's nothing more motivational than seeing someone twice your age pushing at a higher intensity than you. Time to kick it up a gear! Both the West Loop and Bucktown spaces are nice - small but with plenty of functional equipment. Unfortunately for me, my 10 pack of classes is now finished. I don't know if I'll be able to splurge on the regular priced classes or packages at this time. However, if they offer any more promotional pricing down the line I certainly would. Or just maybe once I'm burned out on my normal routine again, I'll head back to OYM to feed my fitness fix. read more

F-Train w/ Emily is amazing! Love her F-Train classes at Bucktown and West loop alike. The space is great and it's awesome that they offer free parking at this location. F-Train is an intense workout of circuit training & you will definitely get your ass handed to you but in a good way. Love Emily's coaching style..she is great at motivating you throughout class but doesn't bark at you like a drill sergeant. I also recommend taking Annette's Cardio Box class on Wednesday mornings. My arms and whole body were sore the following day. After all soreness is the new sexy!! Annette is great and even if you don't have a lot of experience in boxing, she does a great job of demo-ing and assisting you and making adjustments as needed so you dont injure yourself or take a jab cross to someone elses face. If you've never been they offer one week free for new clients. Also just got a pkg from Gilt City so be on the lookout for those deals. read more

Love On Your Mark and love Emily and Annette (and all the other Trainers) -- they are absolutely amazing at what they do! I started going to OYM full time about a year ago and haven't once regretted it. The frequent treadmill, cycle, strength, and pilates classes are kept intentionally small so that Trainers can focus on each person's form/technique. My body changed more in one month at OYM than it ever did when I was going to a conventional gym. Added bonus...people are friendly. You'll find the serious athlete to the individual just wanting to get in shape. It's an incredibly supportive environment no matter what your goal. Side note, Emily coached me for my 2010 Ironman Wisconsin race and I had great results...lots of individual attention and encouragement. She was there every step of the way! read more

OYM was one of the gyms I tried out through Classpass, since it's pretty close to both my office and my house. Also, after a bunch of barre, zumba and yoga classes, I was looking for something a little more familiar with a mix of circuit training and cardio. OYM is conveniently located, facing the street, and you take the stairs down to the basement. Once inside, it's one of the most aesthetically unique fitness centers I've ever seen: exposed brick walls, surprisingly good ventilation for an underground place, actual cycles (along with the spin ones) and mirrors with occasional messages and instructions (what i really liked was that they didn't have all over mirrored walls for all the peacocks to crowd around), There was even a neon sign. The coolest part of OYM is definitely Jack - Emily's friendly canine, who is all the fitness motivation I needed! I took two classes here - Tred X with Danielle and Beastmode with Christina. For the latter, I turned out to be the only participant as the gym is fairly empty in the evenings. Both classes include a treadmill and a plyometrics session, but Beastmode was much more intense (can't you tell from the name? :P). Beastmode included 15 minutes each of legs, treadmill, cycle and plyometrics, and Christina took out time afterwards to help me stretch. Tred X was fun because for the circuits bit, they pair you up with another participant, and so it's easier to stay motivated when you are looking at someone else work away! Both classes ran a little over time, and the time mentioned doesn't include (optional) stretching, so keep that in mine if you're on a schedule. The foam rollers are of really good quality. Lastly, a lot of people seem to come back to chill with Jack! :D read more

I found OYM when I signed up for a Metabody Groupon. I didn't know what to expect, and went in with an open mind and wanting an amazing workout. I can not be happier! I have done a couple different classes at OYM. F-Core, F-Train, and Chaos. These have been some of the best workouts that I've done. Not once have I walked out feeling like the workout was just "ok". These workouts are AMAZING! Annette and Emily have both pushed me to the max and are constantly motivating me to succeed and to take my fitness 1 step further. I couldn't be more grateful for what they have taught me and how I've seen my body transform. I feel stronger and more energized and truly believe in their program. I would recommend this gym to anyone. Small classes, lots of focus and attention, and trainers who care! read more

Best gym I've been to in Chicago...IF you seriously want to get into shape. Everything about this club is geared towards maximizing your physical potential. The classes are hard and the instructors are the best I've seen in Chicago. OYM is hands down the best. read more

OYM is fantastic! Each and every trainer/instructor is friendly, respectful, and knows their stuff! Each and every workout I feel like I've worked hard and can feel myself getting stronger each week. Both locations (West Loop and Bucktown) offer classes every day. You won't be disappointed. Go ahead and try (they offer a free week of classes to first time clients), you will be happy you did! read more

On Your Mark Coaching & Training has been in my heart for years. It's so refreshing to have such great, hands on, business owners. Check in with Emily and Annette; you can't miss their huge smiles, down to earth personalities and contagious charisma!!! read more

I bought a Metabody Groupon which allowed me to 'sample' several gyms/classes in Chicago and the classes that I took at On Your Mark in West Loop were my favorite. My favorite things about the classes here are: 1. The variety of exercises and muscles worked. You never get bored or imbalanced. 2. The exercises are not just calorie burners but rather, you are toning and building muscle. Personally I think calorie burning is easy enough, take a walk or a bike ride, but the toning and the building is not something I'm likely to do on my own. 3. The class size is perfect - small so you get some personal guidance but not as intense as one on one. 4. The instructors have a great balance of pushing you and being positive. The exercises are adaptable for everyone. If your strong they compliment your strength. If your weak but have good form they compliment your form. If you just plain suck they compliment your effort. Etc. A great place that I recommend! read more

I feel compelled to write a review because 1.) This is the best gym I've ever been to, with the best trainers, and the best classes, and 2.) I found the gym through reading reviews. I was a risky client. I had 3 stress fractures in 2 years yet still wanted to train for marathons. I signed up for personal training, and by working with Emily, quickly discovered that I had poor functional movement and a weak lower body (because all I did was run). Over the past year my strength and range of motion have improved considerably. It's no coincidence that since I started at OYM, I have not had a single stress fracture, and I've run multiple races including a marathon. My goal was to stay healthy, and OYM and the staff helped me achieve that goal. The personal training is top notch and the staff customizes the workouts to meet the needs of each person. I also started taking classes at the gym for fun but quickly became addicted, especially to Christina's cardio box class. The instructors are great, encouraging, and are very mindful of using the right form. It's hard to make working out at 5am fun, but somehow they do it, and it has turned into my favorite day of the week. Results + a fun and challenging environment = really your only choice (and the best choice) for personal training, and small group classes in Chicago. read more

I am writing this review eagerly since i have never reviewed another business EVER! I started at ON Your Mark in fall of last year to get some strength and energy to handle having two kids at 42. Emily was my first life-trainer I worked with there and she has exceeded my expectations of what a trainer should be. After a few months and much dedication on my part, I was making great progress. I started doing more classes with anyone I could schedule. Annette was next and her drive and focus has been a real inspiration ( also she is a Machine) ! This place is more than a gym, its a life altering gathering and its members are fun-loving and conscious. Lois was my next teacher and again I am not exaggerating AMAZING! Megan and Heather have rounded up my experience here at OYM and I am just sorry that Yelp only allows six stars!!!!!! read more

I have been going to On Your Mark for a few months now, but have been working out with Annette and Emily for years. I recently quit my other gym and am now going to OYM full time. The reason I quit is that hands down, Annette and Emily are the best trainers out there. The classes are small and each person gets one on one attention from each of the trainers. OYM has all types of classes, spin, treadmill, strength, pilates, swim workout and track workouts. All of the members are very friendly. Definitely more motivating than any gym I have been to. read more

I've trained at this location and the newer West Side location, and I love it. The trainers are great and there's always such good energy, but... the dogs!! Dogs do not belong in the gym, for a number of reasons. 1. Clients may be allergic. 2. Safety - dogs can be unpredictable around people that they aren't familiar with. 3. Dog phobias are real!! 4. Everybody doesn't want to hear dog barks bouncing off the walls while training, it's distracting. read more

I've been here twice now and love it. I work out 6 days a week so I never usually get that great sore feeling after a workout .... but I've had both times after leaving On Your Mark! You can tell the people who run it LOVE what they day and our passionate about fitness. read more

I have been training at OYM for over a year and it has been the best investment I made into myself. Not only did I successfully complete my first marathon, but I also discovered my own body and what it is capable of with the right training. I have learnt a lot about building endurance, developing efficient running and biking technique, correcting muscle imbalances, stretching, hydrating, and believing in myself. I am amazed to see how much and how quickly my body has been transforming from flab to muscle. Both Annette and Emily are highly professional and passionate about their business of helping their clients get to the highest level of fitness. They both are successful athletes and have completed multiple races, including several Ironman triathlons. Emily is an accomplished cyclist (no wonder she teaches the best spinning classes EVER!) and the best personal trainer in Chicago to be rivaled only by Annette, who gives every client individual attention and advice and is the most inspirational coach I have ever worked with. They run training programs for marathoners (I never thought that running a marathon can be that much fun!), Olympic triathlons, Ironman races, and individual programs. They also teach small group classes that are a cost-efficient way of getting to experience their superb coaching. My only concern is that it will soon become very difficult to get a spot in a class, as more people find out about their studio. read more

I love OYM. I am by no means a lifelong athlete; a more accurate description would be a couch potato who would run once a year and hate it. I still don't enjoy working out even after half a year, but I keep coming back. I first used the 1 week free trial and then the 10 class package, but you really get your best bang for your buck with the Unlimited. Plus with Unlimited, there's no excuse for not signing up for more classes. Small classes seem to be the focus here, but I do see people who have personal training sessions or go on the treadmill by themselves. The trainers are great! They push you while still paying attention to your limits. All the exercises can be modified to be easier or harder, and the trainers really stress the importance of doing things correctly to (a) get the best results, and (b) avoid injury. I definitely could feel myself get stronger within a few weeks. I like that there's a variety of classes, and the schedule changes a little every few months. Even within a given class you will not get the same exercises each time, so it doesn't get boring. I really like the boxing classes (though it doesn't fit into my regular schedule,) Ass & Abs, and F-Core. I don't know what it's like to be a member of any other type of gym, but I do like the size of this one. I'd say that most of my classes have about 4-6 people, but it does vary quite a bit depending on the class, time of day, holidays, etc. There have even been times when it was just me - like having a personal trainer! It's the kind of place where the trainers know your name, and people say hi/bye to each other. Parking is easy - there are a few spaces in their parking lot, but street parking is free in this area anyway. It's sometimes challenging in the evening, but it's far from being a problem. The online scheduling is extremely easy and reliable. There is a cancellation policy for classes which is quite fair - 12 hours notice. read more

For someone who has not done any fitness activity in almost 10 years, I was intimidated to even sign up for the free week of classes OYM offers. After a quick email to Emily (co-owner) she assured me the classes are for all types of people regardless of fitness level, so I decided to give it a try. After my free week of classes, I was sold on OYM and signed up! My wife couldn't believe I was actually signing up and was even more surprised when I would get up for 6am classes. They have a variety of classes through out the day to accomodate most schedules. The instructors are terrific in their motivation, guidance, technique and patience. They are encouraging on your bad days and push you to do more on your good days. The class are small enough where they ensure you are using the right form to maximize your work out. You always walk away knowing you pushed yourself as much as you could or more than you thought was possible. The signature classes combine conditioning and strength training all in 45-60 mins which beats going to other gyms for 90 mins and not getting the same quality workout. I never thought this would be possible, but I actually find myself looking forward to the classes. I think what I like most of OYM is I am learning in a small class atmosphere from friendly experienced intructors on how to efficiently exercise (both conditioning and strength). They help me to push myself whereas I wouldn't normally. Highly recommend OYM to everyone. read more

Awesome place to workout! Love all the staff and I always challenge myself when I'm here. Ive only gone for group classes and the class sizes are typically small so you get a lot of attention. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! I discovered this hidden gem of a gym in 2011 after reading about it in a DailyCandy. I can honestly say that in less than 3 months, On Your Mark Training and Coaching literally changed my life! I was running on my own and training on and off at another gym, but because I wasn't doing any of it the right way, I never saw results. The trainers at On Your Mark put me through some of the toughest workouts ever, but because you're in small group classes, you get a ton of personal attention and form corrections, that in just 45-minutes a day you see amazing results. My favorite trainer and coach, co-owner Annette Fiscelli, has an amazing passion for her work, and her support and encouragement gave me the confidence that it's never too late to become an athlete...not to mention how strong I felt and how good that made me feel about my body. These trainers and the amazing people I've met in the small group classes have become close friends and now going to On Your Mark is one of the best parts of my day. And after years of fun runs, with Annette's coaching, I completed my first triathlon and am totally hooked! The On Your Mark gyms in Bucktown and West Loop are so much more than gyms, and I can't recommend this team more highly if you're looking to improve your quality of life, develop your passion for athletics, or just flat out feel great about your body! read more

Emily & Annette have changed my life! They have taught me the importance of a good/correct workout, posture and nutrition. This past year they have gotten me in shape for my wedding, and have totally changed my self confidence. I've done the personal training and the classes, and they both are worth every second! If you get a chance to join OYM I promise you will be more than satisfied! read more

I tried the cycling class and the strength class at the West Loop location and it was fine. The spin class was tough and has some good energy. However, there are just a bunch of spin bikes tucked in the corner so it is a little hard to focus on class when there is so much going on around you. The strength class was fairly easy to me, I didn't feel challenged at all. Again there are a lot of things going on - personal training, other classes so it is really hard to focus on the class you are supposed to be in. There was a woman in class with me that her husband had taken the class before. They kept talking among themselves and with the instructor. The instructor made the rest of the class feel like an afterthought. The music for this class was really low so the overall vibe of this class was just blah. Lastly, as other people had mentioned - there are dogs roaming about. I love dogs but not when I am trying to work out. It seems like socializing and playing with the dogs are the primary focus here and the workouts are secondary. Just too many distractions. read more

On Your Mark is great. Both Emily and Annette are very skilled trainers and coaches. They provide a wide array of training needs. They take great pride in their work and are willing to go the extra mile to help you achieve your desired results, whether it's weight loss, endurance, building muscle or whatever your specific physical goals may be. They do this by instilling positive reassurance and an "anything is possible" mindset. I would highly recommend OYM if you are serious about achieving your fitness goals and don't want to get lost in the shuffle of a mass market training facility. read more

I walked in to OYM over a year ago. I felt a bit intimidated by my age as well as my capabilities, or lack there of. The co-owners and trainers Annette and Emily are accomplished athletes and dedicated fitness specialists. They go above and beyond in their efforts to assist their gym members to reach for goals that were felt to be unattainable. They inspire through their knowledge, guidance, balanced training programs along with the genuine desire to help us all succeed. Something very special is happening on the corner of Monroe and Aberdeen and I am grateful to be a part of it. Step out of your comfort zone, this is the place for people of all fitness levels to be inspired and live their best life! Thank you to Annette and Em for greatly enriching my life! read more

This is the best training place I've ever worked with. I've only done the classes but they are small and so individualized it's like having a personal trainer. The circuits are changed around every time so it's fresh and not boring. The quality of the trainers is amazing. They are so attentive to the way your whole body works together and so value added. I really respect them and their classes. Just wish I could go more often - I love it. I highly recommend On Your Mark, and I am very picky! read more

Only been here once but it was such a great experience I felt compelled to write a review. The Ass&Abs class I attended was so much fun, such a great workout, and the instructor Pat- I should probably call him a coach because that's exactly how he treated everyone in class, was incredible. He encouraged, motivated, and challenged me all while calling me by name and meeting me where I was at in my ability and skill set. He customized the class to each person in class and made it the best for all of us. I can't wait to take another class at OYM! read more
