Dirty bar
Matthew C.

We came around 7 pm, the bar on the outside was empty. The bar tender took 2 or 3 minutes to visit and he didnt really do anything good, or bad. Just meh. He did bring us chips and salsa and took our order timely. My wife ordered some shrimp tacos and she said they were dry and over cooked. After a while of needed refills we got ahold of a different bartender and he was pretty fun. This bartender, Dom, made jokes we weren't in the VIP section, but made sure the rest of our evening was fun. I posted a picture of it, but the bar looked like this since we sat down. It was really dirty and cluttered. I looked across and the people across from us had probably 10 shot glasses and 5 empty beer glasses. It was moderately busy, but not so busy for the bar to be a filthy mess. They needed to probably have a barback or one of the bussers come and make a run through. I give 3 stars because my wife LOVED her margaritas and Dom was pretty cool, other than that, wasn't worth the trip.

I think this is our last stop at the Barrio Queen.. While the food is typically good the service is so bad. The last three times we've sat at the bar and you think it would be better, but it's definitely not. Waiting for long periods with no acknowledgment, no drink. The "bartender is MIA more than he's at the bar. Tonight was it. We watched over twenty plus minutes as the people next to us along with ourselves couldn't flag anyone down to get a drink or pay our bill. By the time we left my husband was so irritated. For the price you think they'd have some decent attentive service. Especially at the freaking bar.

We returned to Barrio Queen after some time passed after a meh experience when they first opened and are glad we gave it another try! The elote ribs w were tasty, tacos were all good and the salsa was better than most. The skinny Margarita in particular was a nice balance of tart lime juice, agave nectar, and tequila. Our server was pleasant and reasonably attentive. The indoor-outdoor seating is nice in good weather. Definitely on our list to return.

We're visiting from LA and wanted to have dinner with our family from surprise. We looked on yelped and decided to try Barrio Queen. I'm so glad we did because everyone in our group of 10 enjoyed their dinner. We started with micheladas chingonas and margaritas, so good. We moved on to appetizers and ordered the Mexican street corn, corn ribs, queso fundido and taquitos. The fresh tortillas with the queso went perfect together. The corn ribs were so good we placed another order. The taquitos with the toppings they're served with were great and we added the habanero salsa for additional flavor. We also ordered tacos, tortas and enchiladas and the flavors were perfect! The service was good, everything came out quickly and perfect temperature. The restaurant is beautiful with so many little details, like the purse hooks on the tables, the alebrije lamp shades, and so much more! This place is definitely a vibe. If you're looking for good food, good drinks and fun experience this is it.

My husband, I wanted this location on Friday, May 16 for their happy hour from 3 to 6 PM. The restaurant was not crowded at all and we opted to sit out on the patio since it was nice. They do have spritzers available, but they weren't on when we were there. Our service was good and they have a happy hour menu on the back of the smaller menu which will show you the options to choose from for five dollars for drinks and select appetizers. We did like the birria quesadillas but we did not care for the chicken quesadilla which was skimpy on the meat when we placed the order for the second appetizer and it's only enough for two people because you get four pieces. We did also try the frozen margaritas and a regular margaritas on the rocks if you would like to add flavor to any of your margaritas it's a additional dollar more, which will make it six dollars instead of five dollars. You also receive complementary chips and salsa. We enjoy the chips but the salsa was very watery not thick at all. But it's nice since it's free just wish the salsa had more flavor & was thicker.

Went in for their Taco Tuesday, Buy a taco get one free, great deal. I wanted to like this place, and it wasn't bad. But it was just okay. We got six tacos in total. Cochinita Pibil, Pescado, and Quesabirria were the favorites. With the quesabirria taking the most liked. They had the most flavor and had nice amounts of veggies and had a balance of flavor. The Asada, Suadero Azteca, Al Pastor were below average. The Al pastor was very sweet with no heat at all. The asada was tender and was seasoned. All three were lacking onion and cilantro. The tres leches was disappointing. There were very flavorful strawberries in the dish but I don't think there was any berry compote. Not pictured was an Azteca Burrito with rice and black beans. It was surprising dry. The beans were heavily salted, almost inedible. The rice was bland, lacking flavor. The chips were great. The red salsa was very mild, and close to being too tomato flavored. The verse salsa was a favorite and uniquely seasoned. Great service, very kid friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I would come back for this Taco Tuesday deal.

We came here a few times this trip because we lived their menu. We came during happy hour and they had $5 margaritas, $5 appetizers and we left with a full stomach and a plan to come back soon. They had a wonderful happy hour corail menu, but their house margarita with a takin rim was absolutely delicious. For food, we ordered guacamole, two chicken tacos, the nachitos and had lots of left overs. This place has the BEST happy menu by far in this area. Besides the menu, the food is delicious and the ambiance here is amazing.

First time to the surprise location, tried a new item off the menu. It was decent except the chicken it was dry and so gamey it wasn't great the server was nice enough to tell us upfront the kitchen was having a bad day today because almost all his orders were wrong he did offer a different chicken taco that was much better I usually go to the Glendale or Desert Ridge locations and the food and service is better . Service is very slow here

Happy. Hour. That's it, that's my review... Fine apparently I need more words. It's only $5 actual US dollars per plate. Margs are only $5. Service amazing. Atmosphere is solid. AND you can order tacos. If this doesn't make you happy nothing will. Also the margs are strong and I'm about to go dancing.

The restaurant was about half-full and bustling brightly indoors and on the deep shaded wrap-around patio. Our server, Branden, was one of the best servers we've ever had! Attentive and polite, even reading off the entire menu and describing highlights to hubs, who'd never been before. We were seated immediately at a booth table and brought complimentary chips and salsa. These are good fresh, thin chips and smoky mild-hot tasty salsa. Branden brought us a second round of chips and salsa as well. We ordered: - Coca-Cola fountain drink - Coke Zero fountain drink - SHORT RIB MACHACA ENCHILADAS 5/5 - Highly recommend - caramelized peppers & onions, yellow cheese, ancho chile sauce, cilantro. Served with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, rice, & choice of beans. Classic enchilada sauce like how I remember, delicious tender shredded marinated short rib inside. - CARNE ASADA FAJITAS 4/5 (sweet soy salsa verde) served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans & tortillas. Hubs said these were good. He did want rice with his meal so he ended up taking my rice which I didn't want. As you can see in the pics, the tortillas are scratch made in-house as well as the sauces and sides. Bar seating, booth and table, and patio seating available. Men's and women's restroom available for customers.

Probably not going back to Dick's…read more.. We were visiting both Phoenix and Scottsdale with friends and decided to meet up at Dick's Hideaway for dinner after hearing good things. There were six of us, and we were quoted a 45-minute wait, which seemed reasonable at first. However, their system for managing waits is honestly pretty frustrating. There are no reservations, no text notifications, and no call when your table is ready. You're basically left hovering and guessing. We did make it back in time for our table, but a simple "hey, your table's ready" system would go a long way in making guests feel valued. We were seated around 8 PM after waiting and taken to a large corner booth in the back. Unfortunately, there were still two people from the previous party lingering at the table even after they had paid and the rest of their group had already left. I understand finishing drinks, but it felt inconsiderate given how busy the restaurant was and how long people were waiting. After being seated, it took about 15 minutes before anyone came to our table, and even then, not everyone in our group was acknowledged right away. Things didn't improve much from there. It took over 30 minutes just to place our food order. From what we could tell, there was only one server handling the entire restaurant. I can definitely empathize with how difficult that must be, but at the same time, when we first arrived, she appeared to be standing near the entrance rather than actively managing tables, which added to the confusion. When the food finally came out, it was very staggered instead of arriving together. I ordered the Taos tenderloin with green beans and fries. The sides were actually great--probably the highlight of the meal--but the steak itself was disappointing. I ordered it medium, but it came out with an overly charred, almost burnt crust that completely overpowered the flavor. The whole dish really needed basic seasoning like salt and pepper to bring it together. The atmosphere also didn't do much to help the experience. It's extremely dark inside--so much so that it's hard to see your food--and the space feels cramped. The layout is also pretty strange and honestly a bit off-putting. There's what appears to be a kitchen area right behind the bar, and then a full kitchen in the back--but what really stood out was the lack of separation near the restroom area. There's no proper door between the kitchen and the bathroom space, and from a small step down off the dining area, you can basically see straight into the kitchen if you wanted to. It just didn't feel very private or well thought out. Another thing that stood out was the portion sizes. While some people might see that as a positive, they were honestly too large--especially for those of us traveling who couldn't take leftovers with us. Slightly smaller portions might not only reduce waste but also help the kitchen keep up with demand and improve overall service speed. Overall, this ended up being more of a one-time experience than a place we'd return to. Between the disorganized wait system, slow and inconsistent service, and underwhelming food, it just didn't live up to the expectations we had going in.

Absolutely not. Literally. That's it. I think one of them had a little guacamole at the bottom of the taco to keep the tuna from falling out. Completely underwhelming flavor profile and a perfect portion size...if you're on Ozempic. I also ordered the individual carnitas and chicken tacos. $6 each, also during happy hour. The chicken and carnitas tasted like they had been dredged in salt over and over again. Zero flavor dimension--just salt. There was an attempt at creativity; they added some orange segments to the carnitas taco. But the predominant flavor of salt and odd white sauce ruined it. Even though it was complimentary, I have to mention the chips and salsa. I give them credit for serving the chips warm and not over salting them; they were really good. But the salsa was bad. It tasted like ketchup with diced tomatoes, onions and jalapeños mixed in. While I was eating, I overheard two different women at the bar describe the food as "not bad". Not a ringing endorsement and frankly, it's usually a polite way of saying "this isn't good." For me, this place isn't worth the money. I can think of plenty of other Mexican places that offer better quality dishes at more reasonable price points. I recommend going elsewhere.
