Our server was attentive and kept up with our table of 7 so that gave them the 3rd star otherwise, I'd give it a 2 as the food was mediocre. The black beans were dry so my friend didn't eat them and the Charred Carne Asada fajitas were super dry and tough, my Aunt (the birthday girl) chewed her way through them but "charred" should not result in "overcooked" meat. My two other family members enjoyed the Chiles Enogada but didn't care for the side of rice so they didn't eat it. My cousin's Barrio Bowl looked amazing and was overflowing in the small bowl it was served but she enjoyed it & had extra to take home. I had the Al Pastor Torta w/ seasoned fries which were well seasoned but fries weren't hot nor crisp, they looked and felt cool as if they'd been sitting out a while, so they flopped when you picked them up. The torta wasn't toasted, so it got soggy quickly. Overall, the food was barely okay. 6 out of the 7 diners avoided an item or another on their plate. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you're looking for Mexican food (even if you're okay w/ fusion Mexican food). Least not until there's more consistency with the food. read more

You likely will approach Barrio Queen traveling West on Bell Road. To enter the lot, you must drive about 75 feet past the restaurant. Then make a right once you are in the lot. There is no shortage of staff. Service was brisk. Soft warm colors decorated the poorly lit room. This and the small print on the menu, made them very difficult to read. . According to the Oxford Language Dictionary, a taco is made of a fried tortilla. Typically it is folded and filled...." What the Barrio Queen called what they sold Tacos. . They were street tacos: small paper white tortillas encasing a meat filling. They were street tacos. What is very interesting and delicious was a salsa consisting of avocado and pomegranate and other ingredients. Our server made it tableside. With dinner, there was a bowl of what could have passed for potato chips. They were good, but not the Mexican kind of chips. With Special Agent Inspector Klein present both men's and women's bathrooms passed easily... The floor tile is white, randomly patterned with black. It looks like dirt. It is not. Special Agent Inspector Klein and I concur. It was about 8 PM the evening of Martin Luther King Day. The Barrio Queen appeared empty. The menu said one thing but you get another. That is misrepresentation. The chips were not the usual corn chips served at Mexican Restaurants. The Salsa, which you had to special order, was a hit with Special Agent Inspector Klein and her escort. There are so many traditional Mexican Restaurants. .Barrio Queen is not traditional. Some may love the Barrio Queen. The decorations are pleasing. The service was very good. If the Tacos were as described, the rating would be four stars. read more

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU PAY. They argued with me for 10 minutes about them charging me an extra $20 for no reason. The manager couldn't crack a smile if she tried. She looked like I was trying to get 5 cents taken off my tab. They finally realized it was their mistake and fixed the total. Then sent me out the door with a big bags of chips and no salsa this is what you get when you don't pay the extra $20 hidden fee. They get pissed off and "forget" something. Just moved to N Phoenix and loved the new Queen in Surprise. Went to visit it again and, in addition to being new, it's in a great area & the wait was exceptionally long, we drove to Glendale. It was also a gorgeous restaurant. We requested an area at the bar or patio, and we ended up with high table/booth by the bar, just inside the patio area. Breeze coming in was lovely w/ a great TV view had we stayed for the Suns game. (May become our go-to spot during football season. ) We were there just before Happy Hour ended (everyday 2-6pm) & primarily ordered from the HR menu. The NACHITOS are our favorite. Or, for my husband, were bc we ordered the Flautas for the first time & said it may be his new #1. They were delicious. We finished with Churros and took home a seasonal Mango desert. Back again but this time home delivery. We ordered the chicken nachos, which were fantastic. The flavor combination in the chicken and all the spices and salsa and cheese. It was just fantastic. Everything arrived intact and still warm. I'm tired of just having ground beef in my nachos so I wanted something different and boy did I choose a good one. I wanted to grab some good Mexican while I was in the area for work and was pretty impressed by Barrio Queen. The menu hits on some standards (tacos, burritos, enchiladas) along with more regional cuisine (cochinita pibil, chiles en nogada), and a seriously impressive range of tequilas and mezcals. I went with an order of chicken in mole poblano and a margarita flight. An order of house made tortilla chips and salsa hit the table not long after ordering: those chips were perfectly crispy and just salty enough, while the salsa was bright and spicy. The mole, served with slightly sweet black beans, yellow rice, and corn tortillas, had a deep flavour but needed a bit more of a bite. The margarita flight offered three small glasses, each made with a solid blanco tequila: the Barrio (tequila + fresh lime juice + curacao + agave nectar with a salted rim), the Pepino Loco (jalapeno infused tequila + muddled cucumber + lime juice + agave nectar with a peppery salt rim), and the Tolache (tequila + hibiscus + blueberry + triple sec + lime juice with a sugared rim). I am giving them a three star rating. I was not able to sit and eat the food in restaurant or I might have liked the food more. I got take out and got the Birria Torta and the meat didn't have a whole lot of flavor that I was expecting. The bread got soggy and the fries weren't crispy enough but again I ordered take out. The service was good when I picked up my order. The lady was attentive and knowledgeable as well as helpful! The ambiance was cute, I only was able to see so much but it was cute for what it is. Decided to finally try out barrio queen for all the hype that we hear in the area about this place. But honestly, there's not much to write about here. We had four different taco offerings on two different dinner plates, and while the tacos were not bad there was only one stand out out of the four, and that was the grilled shrimp. One of the issues I have with places like these is when they offer chips and salsa, but the salsa has no flavor and that is the case here. there's a mild sauce that taste like watered down ketchup I guess and then their "hot" has a fair amount of seasoning, but it's not good at all flavor wise. another issue I have with places like this is that in these days we take an opportunity to try and enjoy a nice meal at a sitdown restaurant and it breaks the bank for something that's average at best. Immediately when we walked in at 7pm the entry way and entire front of the restaurant smelled like sewage. The restaurant was empty...was this issue big enough that it should've been closed for the night? Thankfully the smell wasn't at our table. Our server wasn't friendly and was just going through the motions. We noticed a lot of menu changes since the last time we were there a few months prior. My kids and my husband ordered the same thing they usually do but I decided to try something different. The enchiladas suizas were very disappointing. Super dry and had no flavor. The new beans that replaced the black bean side again had no flavor whatsoever. The kids quesadilla was poorly made- the tortilla wasn't even browned just cooked enough to melt the cheese, so when it was cut and stacked in the dish it all melted together, we couldn't get a piece of it off the pile. We asked our server if we could get a refire and she didn't say anything just took it and went to the kitchen. No apology or anything. Unfortunately we were sitting in the booth next to the kitchen window and the staff was putting out a tense vibe. It took longer than our entire order for the kids quesadilla refire- which felt deliberate because the new kids meal came out SCREAMING hot. Not ok. We just wanted to go at this point. My son didn't want to wait for it to cool down and was eating chips waiting for it. Overall we couldn't believe how poor the service and quality of food was. We frequent a few Barrio Queen locations because we know it's consistent. At least up until this visit. It was our daughter's choice of her birthday dinner and to say that made it an even bigger disappointment is putting it lightly. I was there yesterday with a friend, to begin the waiter wasn't friendly and had a condescending attitude towards us. I ordered quesadillas, and what I got was 3 enchilada looking tacos obviously with out the sauce of an enchilada, it's almost like the kitchen messed up but didn't want to fix it, I didn't say anything because I was a bit confused and never ordered quesadillas there before, but after doing some research on yelp I definitely didn't receive what I ordered. We've been to this place a few times before and it was delish. Lately the quality has gone down and I don't know why. I compare the carne asada to a cows ass sitting under a heat lamp and then being served. Now I know how Allen from "The Other Guys" felt when his wife Sheila served him dinner that night. A dog's ass has been cooked better than that carne asada. And trust me, I've never had dog's ass. Needless to say we will not be going back. My Mexican friend would've been gravely offended because he's from Sonora and he knows how to cook carne asada. It's in his genes. His mom was giving birth to him right next to the grill, where his old ma was grilling carne asada to celebrate his birth. So I know it's in his blood. I've been wanting to try this spot ever since they opened, and after almost a year I finally said I'd go. I was hoping they had Brunch, but they didn't and that's A-OK bckz on a Sunday afternoon (12:20p) they weren't busy at all. The ambiance and decor get 5- stars for sure! I sat at the bar that was TOTALLY empty; they can seat about 20-25 but only had 9 ppl including myself and the couple that came in immensely after me. We waited another 3-5 mins then our bartender came out and lowkey asked us both for our orders which I found strange bckz we clearly were NOT seated together. I ordered the Margarita flight that came with 3 yummy mini margaritas... they were perfect!!! Then I ordered the Chile Verde... As you can see in my pics, the Entree looked amazingly delicious, but it most definitely lacked flavor. The rice was colorful but bland, beans perfectly cooked yet bland... and the Chile Verde was SUPER BLAND I was so disappointed bckz it LOOKED so damn good, but I had to eat it with the homemade chips they give you which were awesome, just to get some texture and flavor. I would definitely come back for drinks, but that's about it. The guys that were leaving as I was seated also said their food wasn't "that great" .... It's not bad, but not seasoned and didn't measure up to what I was expecting.
