One would expect to find traditional Mexican dishes in this kind of establishment and indeed I found them aplenty on the written menu. To start with, the chips were very nice, warm and crunchy, some of the best corn chips I've had lately. The Mexican beer selection was great as well, Oneone can't find Negra Modelo beer on tap too often. Now, the food... I had chicken Mole Poblano and that was very disappointing. The Mole was too sweet to my taste, black beans were too sweet as well and the chicken was an abomination, two very thin and burned around the edges pieces of chicken breast. They were tougher than my shoes' soles, very dry and bitter. I had this dish in proper Mexico and it's an entirely different experience, too bad this restaurant calls itself Mexican when it isn't really... As they say, one and done! read more

Great place for family. Queso- not your common liquid cheese. It was actually cheese..almost fondue like. Definitely worth ordering I had the triple tamale plate...green, red and veggie. Oddly enough the veggie was the best. Red was spicy for me..green had too much Masa. Veggie was a good amount of fill and Masa. Brother in law that the funky hotdog on the menu and LOVED it. My date had Al Pastor, Camaron Pasado and Carne Asada Chorizo y Queso tacos. He said they were all great The churros were delicious Tres leches was ok Best dessert was a cocktail. I took my dad to barrio queen to try it out about a week ago, and we sat at the bar. It was a little busy, so it took a couple of minutes or the bartender with pink hair to help us. Her name is Dom L She was busy, but she surprisingly made our drinks really fast and tasty. she didn't seem like she was under pressure even though it was busy,if I were a manager would use her as an example of how to act under pressure the music wasn't too loud so it wasn't overwhelming even though it was busy we will be back. read more

Me and my wife came into Barrio in February, so sorry for the late review. we were going to sit at a booth, but the bartender walked over and asked us if we wanted to sit at a table or a booth so we decided to just sit with her because she seemed nice. so we ordered a beer my wife ordered a margarita with Dominique L. and she made it a very smooth experience for us. I ordered the Pollo burrito and it came out a in a reasonable time and it was hot. I do recommend it. read more

1st time experience- Got some premium tacos they were ok, presentation was good, tasted great just were too cold when they came out and they are pricey at $6 a taco (street tacos). This Barrio BLOWS compared to the QC and Old Town locations I've been too. I would say I've been to Barrio 20 times, but first time to this location. Chips, salsa, tacos, drinks and service were different. No hostess when we walked in. Sat ourselves at the bar. The bartender was literally a one man show, I didn't see one other employee. Placed a catering order from this location last week. $235 order intended to feed about 15 people, and the amount of food we received would have barely fed 4-5 people. We literally started weighing the amount of meat we received, which should have been 1 pound of each option, and each container had 7-9 ounces. Beyond that, the rice and beans were a joke. Barely enough for 2 people. When we called to address the amount of food with them, they just said the amount was correct. We pushed and eventually they agreed to give more meat but we had to drive 45 minutes roundtrip to pick it up. At that point all of the food was cold. And every dish was forgettably mediocre, particularly considering the expense. Called the manager the next day and after more than a week of back and forth with them, they refunded us a whopping $40. Would not place a catering order from this BQ ever again. Very disappointing and embarrassing to host a party with that as our meal. read more

Today I ordered food from Barrio Queen through DoorDash and DoorDash forgot to leave my condiments for my Pozole Verde. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager which was not their fault at all but with no hesitation he offered to drop off the condiments at my home. The food was amazing delicious. Everything was cooked properly. The homemade tortillas delicious. The pork cooked to perfection. Spices just right. Service was prompt and courteous. There is room for improvement on the drinks. I found the margaritas to be not particularly strong and full of ice. About 75% ice cubes. For a $12 drink I expected more. read more

Very colorful setting with a great, upbeat vibe with lots of energy. Similar to their Phoenix location which we'd been to a few years back. A stand out for us- Their table side guacamole is great, especially with the pomegranate. Food is uniquely different from "other" Mexican food restaurants. Especially the sauces, they really take the time to deliver on those & smother their plates in these sauces. The Enchilada Suiza is one of the best things on the menu- delicious. Covered with a creamy cheese sauce, & it's extremely tasty. The Enchilada Azteca is also ample. The shredded beef is super tender. The sides of black beans ( average, prefer refried) and the sautéed vegetable that accompanies it are flavorful. Their award winning margaritas are well deserving of the name! Brought out of town guests for birthday dinner Tuesday evening. Ambiance good it's a lovely restaurant. The service was fair at best. Hostess that seated us not friendly at all. Our server was pleasant but not great. Our microwaved food was ready in about 5 minutes after ordering. Beans cool Burrito tasted like canned chicken and also was not hot. Drinks were adequate. We had gone to Barrio Queen Gilbert today and luckily we had this incredibly good bartender that knows how to do his job otherwise, known as Dakota. Barrio is fantastic and I am really surprised by some of the reviews. The food is authentic and the flavor is amazing. Most of my table got tacos and there were at least fifteen different options to choose from. I went with the pork pibil entree and was not disappointed. They have a children's menu and the kids also got fresh churros for dessert. A person at my table ordered sangria and said it was fantastic and it was unique with mango puree at the bottom. The service was pretty good, and the prices were reasonable. I will surely go back to this restaurant as it lived up to the lofty expectations! read more

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and finally last night stopped in after a show at the Hale.I ordered the Three Tamale trio.it looked so yummy.But when I cut into it it was a huge lump of masa with a tiny bit of the meat filling. It had sauce all over it.It was like eating saucy cream of wheat.SOOOO disappointed and we spent some $$. What a waste.I would not return.My husband tacos were just "ok" he said. He told her to, Get the hell out now! She looked pregnant and she was pleading with him to stop. She had a medical condition. He didn't care and demanded she leave. I've ordered different dishes and have never been disappointed. Service may be spotty though. I love the Arizona burrito! The staff is always friendly, and the ambiance is excellent. Barrio Queen is a full-service restaurant and even make the guacamole fresh at your table, made to order! My son was visiting me and wanted Mexican food. I suggested Barrio Queen because it was near my home. It took a minute to seat us, which was no big deal. What happened next was so disrespectful. Once we were seated the server for our table motioned to the girl who seated us that he wanted her to switch with him. Then he said out loud where my son could hear that "Black people don't tip well". Of course that upset my son and it should have. We decided to just leave at that point. We ate at this restaurant once before in 2019 and it was a positive experience. We went back last night and it was not great. The service and general energy were just off. We sat at the bar where we had a view of the whole restaurant. The bartenders, servers, and food runners were all perpetually flustered. As the restaurant emptied later into the evening, the service did not improve. The staff were slow and forgetful, and we had to ask for everything we needed (water, silverware, complementary chips, drink refills, etc.) rather than being set out or offered automatically. The bartenders were obviously inexperienced and overconfident. The food was just okay. The best thing we had was the salsa. By the end of our meal, it was comical how disjointed everything was. So I am in town for some work and we decided to check out this new spot. Since I am not from Phoenix, I can't really tell you where the heck Barrio Queen is, but I can tell you to come check it out! Tuesdays are Taco Tuesdays and all tacos are $2.50 each. Normally tacos are 3 for $10.00. The beauty of Taco Tuesdays is that you can try several of the 12-15 types of taco on the cheap. There were several tacos that I had never heard of in California, such as carne asada and fried egg, carne asada and chili relleno, chorizo and egg etc. I had four of their fat street tacos: Carnitas, Fish, carne asada egg and carne asada chili relleno. Every one of those tacos was delicious. The meats were smokey and full of flavor. The produce was fresh and gave a good crunch. The egg was cooked a perfect medium so when you bit into it, the egg provided a creamy goodness over the carne asada. Everything was so good, I really wished I had room to try some more tacos! We also ordered the Churros which were too large crispy sticks covered in cinnamon and sugar served with ice cream and the most delectable caramel I have ever had. The caramel was the real star here as it was thick with a deep caramel flavor. Seriously, we even thought about licking the plate it was so good! Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the churros! Great service is a key ingredient in any five star review and the staff was top notch here. Given it was very early and there was nobody there, but every staff member who walked past our table cleared plates, brought chips or checked on us. Our server also brought everyone at the table small samples of the house fruit drinks to taste, what a nice surprise. The house chips and salsa are also very good. The chips are thick enough that they provide fantastic crunch but not hard enough to break your teeth. This was just an all around disappointing awful experience. The service was awful -we saw our server maybe 3 times - sat with empty waters and drinks for almost the whole meal - asked for a pitcher of water at one point so we could at least have something to drink. Ordered margaritas took 20+ mins to get them & 2 of the 4 were AWFUL. Ordered the queso appetizer, it came out with our dinner. When we finally got our dinners - everyone's food was room temp to cool. Spent $100 on dinner and drinks per couple for a poor experience. I know it's tough times so I try to give restaurants some slack but this was absolutely awful. I honestly think it comes down to our waiter who was just in over his head. I think he forgot to put in our order and to pick up our food. How else does an app come out with the meal and everything is cold? read more

I love this fun downtown area of Gilbert, and this dining spot has a relaxed and comfortable bar! The happy hour deals are decent but nothing spectacular. I got the house white wine the last time we came here and it was fine. I recommend trying another wine regardless of the happy hour special. The margaritas and martinis we got were also made well. Overall, the main positives for this dining/bar spot are: very nice staff, fun relaxed bar setting, and fair affordable prices. The food is not exceptional (we have tried mainly apps), but for a fun bar/patio spot that is casual and not too pricey, this is a good option. read more
