This is my first visit, flying solo. Passed by a few times I decided to finally check it out. I was greeted by the manager immediately. Before seating me he informed me they were short staffed and even the bar tender was serving tables. I appreciate his honesty. I decided to sit at the bar and was given a menu, chips and salsa; faster than my head could turn. I ordered it the Barrio Paloma. It came in a cute, short pottery cup. Great flavor. A tad too much ice for my liking. The chips are yummy love the thickness a great match with their salsa. It's been about 20 minutes and I still haven't received my food... No surprise, since I was warned ahead of time. I've pretty much eaten the whole basket of chips and salsa. Nobody has asked if I'd like to order another drink I finally got my Arizona burrito 30 minutes in.. Nice presentation I was offered more chips and salsa and happily excepted the offer. The burrito was good size, not overly big; which can be the case. The crema drizzle was a nice touch. It was a good burrito. I can't point fingers but I was a little disappointed when I didn't see any rice or beans on the side of my burrito. Looking at the menu after the fact I noticed he did not say beans or rice included however, it would've been nice to be reminded that I needed to order them. The green chile sauce was good what it lacked in spice was overly tart/lemony. I definitely will go back. I like the bar and patio vibe. It was NOT busy at all walked in asked for a party of 12 but said we could do one table or up to 3 tables and sos not need to be near each other . They said 45 minutes one hour and a half they still did not seat us even tho there were over 10 tables free . After I demanded to be seated they said they were short staffed I think they inky had one waiter . Once we ordered it took another hour for our food we did. Stopped by Barrio Queen for lunch on Veterans Day. My wife and I sat on the front patio and it was nice although a little road noise from the traffic periodically. Not crowded and we had great service. Chips and salsa was good, but you gotta ask for salt since it is no longer on the tables. Both my wife and I had the 3 premium tacos for $14. She had the braised rib taco, the open face pork taco and the alhambra steak taco. All 3 were good, but she loved the Gringas (open faced) taco. It made things a little weird, with everyone wearing masks and gloves and tables taped off, so it took a little away from the environment, so I'll stick with the food. I went with the Molcajetes. A massive bowl mixed with all sorts of goodies. It had Chile verde pork, chicken, carne asada, and shrimp, mixed with beans and rice, grilled nopales and I don't know what else. I haven't been here in a while and was craving Mexican. My dining partner and I went late (8 p.m.), for Gilbert Arizona Restaurant on a Sunday. Note they do not take reservations and in the past there has always been long waits. When we arrived, no wait, in fact the restaurant was hardly inhabited. We were seated at a big table for 2, it happened to be AZ Restaurant week that week, but we opted not to take part. Our server Andy N introduced himself and was very good. We ordered the Casa Margarita, the Burrito Arizona, Shrimp Ceviche and my favorite, a Bowl of Menudo. I thought I liked Barro Queen much better in the past visits. The drink and food presentation was very nice. The Margarita was too sweet, hardly any Tequila and the food tasted very BLAH. Im a cook at a different local restaurant so I can be somewhat critical of my food. That being said, I ordered the Mexican Chicken Sandwich with the 'flight margaritas' (a 3 marg sampler) My side of fries could have been down in the fryer for 45 more seconds, but the flavor of them was great. Idk what spices they use for the French Fry's, but it seems like a cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. The sandwich itself was definitely 10/10. Flavor was so so good and the crispyness of the chicken and of the buns was so perfect. The margaritas were ok, but at $17 did seem a little pricey. This is my go-to taco spot for a good meal and great cocktail. The vibe is perfect for out of town guest, and the table side guac will impress locals as well! The guacamole is made with pomegranates, a unique and welcome twist. I usually go in for the three tacos special and almost always get the Al Pastor. When my friend who joined me for a quick get away in Puerto Peñasco and I started to miss great Mexican food and street tacos, we journeyed here for a fix. Now that we had recently had great street tacos, I was a little worried Barrio wouldn't exceed my previous experiences. I am happy to say the Al Pastor was just like the ones we had down south, and you can never go wrong with asking the wait staff to recommend or just surprise you with their favorites to match. We were both really happy with our drinks, recommended by the waitress as her two favorites (Queen's Cooler and the Toloache). Not too sweet, not too tart, and just right after a long week. Although this location switched ownership a few years ago, it has held up to the name of the original in Phoenix. Good food, great atmosphere, and located in downtown Gilbert. They even made the guacamole in front of us, which was a nice touch.

I wish I could leave a lower rating because my experience here was sub par. A group of 10 arrived to celebrate a special occasion and we put our names down. The hostess mentioned a 20 minute wait and we decided to wait with drinks. Well, 40 minutes later and $160 bucks later we were still awaiting our table. After following up with the hostess she said another 20 minutes yet there were open tables. Either way, an hour later we were texted our table was ready and our hostess literally just pointed us to the table instead of walking us over. First negative impression. We sat down and after a few apps, ordered our meals. 40 minutes later we got our food. And of course, while eating my meal i come across a large piece of plastic. We call the manager (female) over and she literally picked at my plate to determine whether it was plastic or not. Needless to say that ruined everyone's appetite. She then said this isn't their normal way of serving food- i hope it isn't! And after i explained our experience she proceeded to ask me if i have had a bad experience before and implied this only happened today not other days so it shouldn't affect my experience. My brother in law, completely disgusted with the experience spoke to another manager (male) on our experience and his reaction was more accommodating and understanding. While his cutting of our bill didn't take the sour taste from our mouths it was a nicer gesture to show face for the restaurant. I will end by saying we won't be back anytime soon but maybe in a year or so when we can fully forget our experience from today. read more

Well i wanted some good fajitas i ordered the combo shrimp steak and chicken was a good size serving and tasted great. But they give you 2 shrimp and only two tortillas now I guess the cost of tortillas must be really expensive because they're really skimpy on their tortillas. I had dinner here with family while visiting Gilbert. First, I must commend our server. He went above and beyond to meet our needs. My niece had a bug bite so he brought a cup of ice and a small bag so she could feel better. He also made suggestions for our gluten free guest. The food was good and portions were perfect. It felt great to be able to go to a restaurant and dine in again! We chose to go for tacos on Taco Tuesday! This place has some of the best gourmet tacos anywhere, I don't quite understand why it doesn't have better reviews. They did a great job of trying to make you comfortable and so the staff were wearing masks and gloves. The complimentary chips and salsa are pretty good and the beer is served nice and cold. I'm updating my review. Mike the manager invited us back to make our bad experience right. I have to say that the food was really good. I'm sure our previous experience was just a bad day for the cook cause today was the total opposite. My wife and I shared the Barrio Papas and loved them, wife had the vegetarian Chile relleno and she said today it was very delicious and flavorful. I had the Marisco enchilada and they were also very flavorful, shrimp was cooked well not over cooked and the fish was perfect. I was absolutely disappointed with the food first was the appetizer Ceviche horrific flavor, strong cocktail flavor no seasoning not sure if that was intended no spices or lime to it next the tortillas disgusting and food we took one bite and immediately asked for bill the manager was kind enough to say no charge but I still paid for my total. We sat at the bar and the bartender did not know what he was doing service was horrible, It took forever to get our margaritas "our drinks tasted better previous times" I requested more salsa but was finally brought out when I was ready to leave. Park in the back not bad. Saw empty tables still had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Nice decor. Great big homemade tortilla chips, salsa looked great but had NO kick. I wouldn't call it salsa it's more like a tomato dip. So stoked they had Ginger Ale and Horchata. Sodas don't come with straws. Strange. They looked at us like we were freaks that we wanted straws. Had 3 Tacos, Carnitas, Carne Asada & Birria. ALL dry... so disappointed. Lots of Cartilage in Cantinas Taco had to spit out 3 times. All tacos only had chopped red onions nothing else. They gave some green sauce on the side it was watery and made the dry flavorless tacos a gross taste. But the Arizona Burrito that my hubby got was Marvelous. So juicy, moist full of flavor. I would definitely come back but not for the taco's. We had a boy waiter and his assistant so I thought we would get great service but we didn't. It was so frustrating needing a refill and have not 1 waiter walk by and ignore us but 2! They passed us 8 times and I waved 2 different times, not even a look. I stood up and waved and my hubby had to yell excuse me for us to get a refill. The Manager Rocks, my hubby spilled the beans that I didn't like my tacos to the waitress and she told the manager he came right over and offered to replace the tacos but I didn't even want to try, they were that dry and flavorless I refused to try, but it was awesome he offered.. Such a bad experience when I came here a while back. Horrible service and bad food. It made me sad because the waitress was extremely overwhelmed. She was running around so much. I had the mole chicken, and it was excellent! My son had the street tacos, and he really enjoyed them as well. We really loved our mock tails. They were called some thing mule. Probably the best Mocktail I've ever had! The service was very good. Our waiter was very nice, and the food came out quickly, and was hot.
