This is our favorite restaurant in Haverhill! The vibe is so cool and the staff has always been so friendly. We are new to town and love it. Their Coca-Cola marinated steak is AMAZING and I don't even like meat that much. Their spicy marg is out of this world. So yummy. Only complaint is that I ordered the Sassy Pineapple (spicy) as a pitcher with some friends and it was great. Next time we went, we were told they couldn't make it as a pitcher bc the ingredients are homemade???? So the waitress, she had to be new...., offered for them to make a similar one as a pitcher. It was not good, overly sweet, and they CHARGED US for whatever the simple syrup was that is NON-ALCOHOLIC. We ended up paying so much extra for the pitcher that A. was not good & B. not what we ordered. We disputed the bill and the girl wouldn't budge then proceeded to say "Is that okay?...." lol like no but what are we supposed to do.... Otherwise.. everything is amazing. Today was my first experience eating at the Haverhill location. We ordered online and our food was not ready for another hour. The hostess checked on my food only after 40 minutes. 20 minutes after that she came back out and asked for my name again, and then came back with my order which was cold. Our Napa Slaw was browned and the meat was cold. The tacos looked as if they were thrown in the bag. Horrible presentation and service. Very disappointed. read more

Called earlier in the week to make a reservation but told they don't take them... first come first serve only. But then we show up at 630 on a weeknight and the people checking-in in front of us had a reservation!!??I was bummed about that. We were told 45 mins and played cornhole in the patch of grass next to it while we waited-- which was cool. As we played, we noticed a large table for 6 outside that was empty for a while. This was exciting because I thought ok--maybe they'll seat us inside! Or close to the outdoor heaters in the fenced in outdoor area. But after 45 mins, they sat us at this exact table.... that we had been looking at empty for 30 mins already. And it was on the outside of the fence nowhere near the heaters or inside "vibe". I felt like we were sitting in the same yard we had been playing cornhole in. We couldn't even enjoy the atmosphere of the place, which we came here for. When asked if we could move to an open table on the other side of the fence, we were told this was the "most desirable table". Guess we're not important enough for that? Make your own tacos were great. Next time, I think I'll just order takeout and bring it home so I'm comfortable and warm. read more

I was so excited to try out this new spot in Haverhill but that changed quickly. First we were seated in the outskirts. Once sat they didn't come back - we were waiting for a server for about 10 minutes, met with no luck so we left. We weren't given a drink menu. We had some questions about the menu. We overheard a server say she could not pronounce one of the drinks. 1. It's her job to know what everything is on the menu and how to say the items 2. How ignorant to not even attempt to try to pronounce something when you're profiting off another culture. read more

Ordered takeout with some friends, roughly $100 worth and the entire order was wrong. They forgot our drinks, our guac was a whole avocado not even made into guac, the bowls were all ENTIRELY wrong. Called in, after the manager giving a good bit of attitude over the phone and hanging up, we eventually got our order remade. We picked it up and over half the order is STILL wrong and the manager, in person, gave us more attitude, saying there's no way it could've been wrong since she took the order. Thing is, the slip was right, sure, but nothing from the slip was even made or in our bag! We're pretty calm and easy going so we didn't give her any reason to give us the attitude she did, and we still didn't get our order in the end. Won't be back. read more

I have been to Barrio about 5 times, and have now ordered takeout for the first time. I hate to leave a bad review but they are just not good. The service at the actual restaurant is almost always terrible. I have been served cold food multiple times (I'm talking cold meat that should be warm). I ordered two corn tacos for takeout tonight. The tortilla was not cooked at all (a corn tortilla needs to go on the grill), and both were completely broken in half. The one positive thing I can say is that they have great margaritas, and that is probably the only reason to go. read more

We ordered the to-go taco kits and were pretty disappointed. I can tell this place has great food and flavors but their execution is really lacking. I ordered hard shell tacos for one of our kits because my boyfriend has a gluten intolerance. My request was ignored and we were given flour tortillas for both kits. Luckily we'd ordered chips and queso and I was able to save dinner by creating some nachos. It's clear that the fixin's for these kits are assembled far beforehand. This may seem efficient but when people need to customize orders it all goes to hell. It was very evident that the Napa slaw in the kit was at least a day or more old. When shredded cheese is sitting in the same container with pico and slaw in it for over a day... you can imagine what will happen. Those veggies sweat and a pool formed in the bottom of the container and the cheese was soaking wet. I ordered fish for my kit, it tasted great! But it was sitting in a ton of oil. They also forgot a side of salsa we ordered. We were really excited for a New Mexican place that, based on their menu, wants to cater to people with eclectic tastes and food intolerances. But if the staff is unwilling to take the time and care to make sure an order is correct, people won't be coming back. Would love to try this place again if some changes are made. read more

If you are a fan of tacos then look no further! This place has a fantastic vibe along the Merrimack River with both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a unique style of ordering which you will do yourself on a piece of paper that is already on the table when you arrive. The paper has an assortment of taco options that will not disappoint and I found this to be a fun way to engage in the order process. There is a wait staff and this is a sit down restaurant, so imagine creating your own order based on what they have and them catering it to you. The tacos taste fantastic (Coca-Cola Steak was my favorite meat of choice) and the service was decent too. Only concern that I had was one of our taco orders came out incorrect and the waitress seemed taken back by our request to replace it with the correct order. After about a half an hour they seat us a table right in front of the service area. Looking at the menus on a pad we couldn't read them. Mentioned no light here she agreed and then said they were trying to get a "hip" vibe for the place whatever that meant. Now everything started to make sense. It's called discrimination! We were not "hip" enough to sit anywhere. Now let's get to the meal, we both ordered two tacos. After a 45 minute wait they were served. We are not talking a full meal here, just tacos. The waitress said there were only two people in the kitchen. OK I understand that. So this place primarily has tacos so your expectation would be I'm getting a premium taco right? Short rib was too salty and not enough in the other chicken taco. Value and service was subpar with the music blasting so they can appeal to the younger generation. Everyone likes to eat at places that make you feel good. Can't say I liked it here, but that is personal preference. To me, this place is a Chipotle with servers and margaritas. Margaritas have too much extra mix in them, while the bowls (which is what I ordered) are far from filling. I could eat four and still be hungry after. The menu is DIY where you create what you want. That's it. There is no menu to order dishes. Not a fan of that. Barrios has a very hip, millennial vibe to it. Far from an authentic Mexican vibe so you should have an idea of what the food experience will be like as soon as you walk in. I ordered picó de Gallo and it had pineapples in it, which is not how picó is made, the pineapples tasted more refrigerated than fresh. Not a fan of the menu either, it's split into 2. One is a pre-made taco menu and the other a "make your own." The pre-made was all spicy tacos, which isn't much of a variety. I did the make your own, was ok. My bf ordered a tocino (bacon) taco and it was not worth getting. Would not recommend that taco. The drinks were good, got margaritas, were very flavorful. Customer service was good, they do implement mask wearing. Not really the social distancing. Every time we've gone we've had the nicest, most attentive waitresses. It seems they are trying to make it more of a bar than a restaurant because the music is way too loud for people trying to eat. I wish they would make the mac and cheese queso special from October permanent, as that was to die for. I so badly wanted to love this spot, but I was sorely disappointed. Serving sizes were tiny; for what we spent we expected a lot more food. The nachos had nothing on them but a small drizzle of queso. The Guac Especial was plain tasteless guacamole. I had to add a lot of salt. Their Fried Stoner Queso special was supposed to have fried rice, green onions, Sriracha and crispy friend corn tortilla strips; it only had the fried rice. When we arrived to get the order, we were still waiting on one item which was no problem, but they clearly had finished the rest much earlier. Went in a with some friends for Cinco de Mayo, have been to Haverhill Barrios many times and have always had a great time. However tonight was awesome, even though there was an hour wait. We ended up waiting at the bar which turned out to be a very friendly relaxed atmosphere, the owner Maggie came over a few times to just check in and make sure we were enjoying ourselves. To be honest we had no idea she was the owner until the end of the night, but when we had finished dinner and were hanging out, Maggie came over and gave us an impromptu tasting and an education on tequila, it made our night. Granted this probably isn't an everyday occurrence, but it was a great experience , and I highly recommend Barrios in Haverhill, Awesome place! read more
