The food was really good. I got the brisket tacos. I asked if the BBQ sauce was on the side, and it was, but it was also mixed into the brisket. It wasn't bad, just not what what I was expecting. Three tacos, rice and beans, all led to a full belly and a smiling face. I asked for a spicy sauce...and got it. Nice work, y'all, that actually had me sweating a little, a sure sign it's my jam. I know Jen really likes it, too, she raves about it all the time (we can thank her enthusiasm for the 5th star, you guys). Otherwise, being rushed the way we were was a little off-putting, but the brisket made up for it in a big way. ;)

Tonight I got Spanish coffee and a chili relleno. The Spanish coffee is an alcohol drink that can be used as a dessert. Yummy! The chili rellenllo was filled with dellicious ground seasoned beef. It has a coating and is deep fried. The pulled pork quesadillas are so yummy- this is what my hubby got tonight. I like the way the seating is here. There are booths and tables and all are comfortable. Though you may be sitting near another table, the acoustics are such that others talking are not bothersome. This is a pet peeve for me- many times I would rather eat at home - but here, the restaurant here feels like our family now. They are known for their delicious margaritas; but the bar can mix most any drink . I love Mestizos, the yummy food and varied menu mmm is the word! My husband and I are self proclaimed foodies. We love most everything on their menu. The chefs Dad owned a Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge for years- " Carlos" Uridales inspired his son, Jim, to open his own restaurant. Mestizos has been in business for over 25 years. Jim Uridales and his crew are also benevolent members of Baton Rouge and they are a service oriented group of professionals. The menu prices are slightly higher on some items, however, scallops with shrimp here are very delicious and perfectly browned in a buttery flavored manner and this menu item sells for 30 dollars and it's the most costly entree on the menu. Their tapas menu is more budget friendly and delicious. I urge you to try this delicious menu for yourself. We love their catering department too!

Absolutely Terrible Experience -- Rude Owner, Rude Staff, and Hair in My Food…read more I honestly wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. From the moment we arrived, the attitude from both the owner and the staff was completely unacceptable. There was no genuine hospitality, no courtesy, and certainly no effort to make customers feel welcome. The way we were treated was honestly shocking. As if the terrible customer service wasn't enough, I FOUND A HAIR IN MY FOOD. Absolutely disgusting. Between the lack of professionalism and the unsanitary experience, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. What made it even worse was the rude attitude from the people who should have been concerned about making things right. Mistakes can happen at any restaurant, but the way management and staff handle those mistakes says everything about the establishment. In this case, the attitude was just as bad as the experience itself. Good food cannot make up for disrespectful service and questionable food quality. There are far too many restaurants that value their customers to waste time and money at a place where neither basic courtesy nor a pleasant dining experience seems to matter. Save your money and go somewhere that actually appreciates your business. I will not be returning, and based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We came in from Texas ready for margaritas and tacos. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill…read morepretty quickly. First, we were told shortly after arriving that we would have to leave in an hour and a half. Nothing says "welcome, enjoy your dinner" quite like starting the meal with a countdown clock. I will give them this: the margaritas come in a to-go cup, which I actually thought was a great idea. Unfortunately, the margarita itself was HORRIBLE. It tasted like I was sucking on a salt block. I tried to send it back, but instead of simply replacing it, our waiter argued with me about why it tasted salty. He insisted it was because there was salt on the rim and some of it must have fallen into the bottom of the cup. I watched how they salted the rim, so that explanation made absolutely no sense. Since we were apparently dining against the clock, I finally gave up arguing and said I'd try another one without salt on the rim. Plot twist: still tasted like a salt block. The chips and salsa weren't bad but nothing to note either, so there's that. The portobello mushroom taco, however, left a LOT to be desired. The cheese was scorched onto the tortilla, and the mushrooms were seared into crunchy little bits. I genuinely did not know mushrooms could achieve that level of crunch until today. Someone in our party ordered the Pollo de Mar dinner, which was overpriced and, unfortunately, just as disappointing. Between the unnecessary time limit, the waiter arguing with me over a drink I clearly didn't like, the salt-lick margaritas, scorched tacos, and overpriced food, this was definitely not the experience we were expecting. The to-go margarita cup was probably the highlight. Unfortunately, I didn't want to take the margarita anywhere and threw it away.
