Absolutely fantastic job!! We got 3 quotes for removing multiple invasive Norway maples. Barrett's was actually the most expensive (within reason, not much higher than the others). Why we still chose them? Knowledge, experience and reliability. They showed up on time for the quote (and day of service), knew immediately what type of trees they were and the city regulations, measured the diameter of the trunks, and handled street permitting for the trucks. The other companies didn't do any of that. In a city where there are strict rules on tree cutting and plenty of anti-tree cutters, having a company who knew all of the ins and outs really mattered. Day of service they showed up and got set up right on time. They were finished in less than 2 hours! Cut, cleaned, everything. The crew was cautious, kind and quick. Highly recommend Barrett Tree Service! read more

We've used Barrett Tree Service three times over the years, and we keep coming back to them because they're just great, all around! Their arborists know their stuff, they explained all the ins and outs of specific tree species, made recommendations, and worked with us to make us satisfied. Their crew was amazing. They came out on a frigid day, did a lot of work that took nearly all day, and cleaned up really well. Polite and friendly. I have nothing bad to say; it's all good. I highly recommend them, as I already have to neighbors. read more

I'm afraid I gave them years of business and all for nothing. They recommended annual anti-fungal treatments for my trees and they didn't work. So, they recommended removing three fruit trees. They did not mention that my town has a tree warden, that one needs a permit to remove trees larger than 8" in diameter, that there are stiff penalties for not complying. I only found out by accident and when I asked them about it they were flippant - "yeah the homeowner needs to do that..." like it never occurred to them to let me know. I have never experienced a contractor/tradesman not letting me know about needing a permit, rolling it into the cost and just doing the work. The penalties could have been in the thousands. Their arborist always seemed like he would rather be elsewhere. Never took ownership of the work. Never supervised the guys who actually came out to do the work. Didn't follow up unless I called him. Just checked out. read more

this firm has a fancy website with a form to fill out if you have a question. I did so and got the standard auto reply that the message was received, etc. I soon got an email from someone there named Pierre or Pat, I forget, asking me to call. I did but then got the standard message from ATT that I could not connect. I did this 3 times. I then emailed to report that. This morning I again emailed. It has been one day and still nothing. That is unacceptable customer service. I will not be using them. read more

They charge a $125 fee to visit the site. Then they schedule an appointment. That would all be fine, but they don't disclose the fee on their Yelp page or on the website. So they make the prospective customer waste time filling out lead forms and taking calls. When they could save that work by simply disclosing the fee up front. Disappointing. read more

What a joke. I asked for an estimate to trim away the oak trees from my driveway. What I got was this message: Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your tree care! We are happy to schedule a site visit for you to meet with one of our Certified Arborists to review your trees with you. During your site visit with an arborist you'll be able to discuss your tree care concerns, offer recommendations, project timelines and job specific details. Followed by this voice mail: Good morning, this is Brady from barratry Service. East was calling to follow up on your inquiry for Tree Service in the at your property in Reading off. We're currently scheduling site visits 4 to meet with the Arbors for early October and the way that we offer to let you know beforehand live way that we operated that we have you meet with the certified Arborist review off of work. If you decide to move forward with the project that $65 is credited towards the final invoice. If that's something that you like to move forward with. Please give us a call back and we can set up a time for you to meet with one of our certified Arbors. I returned the call and was told by the person that answered that they are, in fact, not accepting new clients in the town of Reading. Total scam. read more

I own a landscaping company in the area and have always referred Barrett Tree Service East to my clients. Now I know why! The noreaster of March 3, 2018 brought down 2 very large trees at my home and I knew who to call. Keith came out gave me a price to remove the trees and were here promptly at 7:30am the next morning. Brendan and his crew came and the work they did was beyond impressive. Professional, SAFE, thorough and delivered what they promised at the price they promised. I am beyond impressed and with out a doubt my go to for every tree related. Care, pruning, diagnostics, treatments. You name it. Trumbull, you should be proud of the company you own. Wow... Thank you beyond words. read more

Great service!! Pleasure to work with. Knowledgeable and punctual. An excellent company.

Ryan at Barrett's was terrific, very professional and knowledgeable. He presented several options to deal with our tree option and let us decide, with guidance. I will definitely go to Barrett's first for any future arborist issues. read more

They are amazing. They took down a 20 ft sycamore maple tree from a tight spot. I found them on Angie's List, where they have mostly A's. Alden cut down my tree, with the help of two other people, Jeremiah and Orlando. Trumball showed up to help load the chipper. The tree was down and chipped in about 2 hours. I wish there was a Barrett plumbing, a Barrett drywall, a Barrett electricion....you get my point. They are great. read more

Keith came out, and you could instantly tell he knew his trees and grass, looked at the area gave a great professional assessment and follow up. They treated the large trees in the back and gave us a plan to keep them healthy going forward. The team that came out and did the work were also pros, and I enjoyed working with this company! read more

This is our second time hiring Barrett. The experience was first rate from Trumbull's initial visit to the crew's final departure. The communication is excellent as is their knowledge, expertise and execution of the work. We found their pricing to be competitive and their work to be top notch. When the time comes we will reach out again and we have consistently offered their name in reference without hesitation. read more

We have used several tree services for limbing and taking down damaged trees. However, when it came to the health of our trees and ornamentals we wanted expert arborists so we called Barrett Tree Services East. Keith, a certified arborist, came out to our property to look over our trees and shrubs. We were most concered with a huge and very grand old Sugar Maple in our front yard. We have owned our home only a few years but noticed it struggling last year. Keith advised us that it was getting closer to the end of it's life but that there were some things we could do to try and extend it's time by deep root biostimulants. He walked our property with me and gave me advice on all of our trees, some ornamentals. His crew came out to do some pruning and taming of some birch trees, a well as all other trees on our property. We use Barrett for insect and scale damage prevention & fertilization as well as limbing and maintenance. Everyone we have come into contact with is professional and courteous. We highly recommend this company. read more

This morning Mark, a certified arborist with Barrett Tree Service East came out to our home in Waltham to examine the trees on our property. He was awesome, extremely knowledgeable and friendly, offering really sound advice on everything from removing/trimming trees, to planting new trees & shrubs. I really appreciated his patience, answering all of our questions and pointing out issues we were unaware of. If you are in the search for an arborist, Mark is your man, highly recommend! read more

No work performed, but this review is based on customer service. We have two very, very tall Norway Maples in our yard. After a storm, a large section of the tree fell into our neighbors yard. Upon inspection, it was decided the entire tree should come down ASAP! No brainer ? It was going to take 2.5 weeks for an 'arborist' to even come to my property to look at the tree for a quote. Long story short, they simply weren't interested. We have since gotten quotes and have had the tree removed by another company. I would NEVER go to these people for quotes. There are other businesses that will do the work. Especially when time is of the essence! read more

I've used Barrett Tree Services to nurture and maintain the health of the trees around my urban home for a few years now and the trees are responding beautifully. Their knowledge and the care they have for the trees are obvious. Highly recommended. read more

The team from Barrett Tree Service was great to work with and the arborists did excellent work at a fair price. Everyone arrived on time and communicated the process clearly. Our trees are much safer now and they look great. The property was left cleaner than they found it. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had with a tree company. I hired them to remove a branch. When they arrived they were not prepared to remove the branch even though I was assured that they could. The crew knew nothing about pruning and destroyed several of my flowering bushes. I was told the Manager would contact me regarding the removal of the branch but that never happened. read more

I'm afraid I'm very disappointed in the service I have received. The hedge was not trimmed back, as was promised and the men trampled our above ground vegetable gardens. Deep large boot-prints were made in all 3 beds and replanting was required. We paid nearly four hundred dollars to get this work done. Not only are we being left with work that I will now have to do on our own, but the aforementioned trampling of the gardens has made even more work for us to do. We received a phone call apology after calling to complain, but simply acknowledging the misdeed on the garden was hardly comforting, and now I have seen they didn't even finish the work that was contracted. I could have done this work myself like I have every year in the past but assumed it was worth paying for it to be done by professionals for a change. It's out hard for me to say that is the case at this point. I can't in clear conscience recommend your service to anyone at this point, it was a simple job, that was handled carelessly. What trust would I have that should a more important job be handled correctly? It seems that it was not deemed worth the workers time to do this right and with respect for the feelings of the people who live here and have to look at their results. No refund or offer to fix the damage or continue the work has been offered after multiple complaints in writing and via phone. read more

Overall, the BTSE team led by Alden did a great job - they took down 20 hemlock trees (which were either infected/dead), trimmed a large maple in the front yard, and trimmed a white oak in the backyard (removed three ominous branches hanging over our roof). The job took about 6 hours in total, and we were quoted/charged a fair price for high quality work (Keith B stopped by a few weeks earlier to assess the total work and total costs). My only gripe was that since the job took about 6 hours - the BTSE team was originally supposed to arrive between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM, but the prior job took longer than anticipated - the BTSE team arrived at 2 PM, worked past sunset and wrapped up the work, including grinding the stumps, around 8 PM. Given the limited amount of light available, the BTSE team did not do a great job cleaning the mess that was left behind from the removed hemlock trees. I spent about two hours the next day raking up hemlock tree debris/branches, wood chips, etc. read more

These folks came over to completely take down two huge maple trees, a 60+ foot one which was dead due to girdling by a canker and the other from a badly trimmed branch rotting the tree from the side (it was like that when I bought the property). They did an immaculate job. The trees were taken down without any damage to fencing or surrounding plantings and the stumps were ground down as well as possible without damaging any surrounding trees. They swept off the wood chips from the patio and cleaned up after themselves as well as could be expected. They were gracious and polite through the whole process and very accommodating of the scheduling and I would definitely call these guys first for any further jobs I have. My next door neighbor who watched a lot of it also commented how good these folks were at their job. read more

I could not recommend these guys any higher. I called in to have two large Catalpas removed and stumped as well as pruning back two large Silver Maples. Trumbull showed up for the initial assessment and was extremely courteous and knowledgeable about the trees. He explained the dangers associated with the Catalpas and explained exactly what they would be doing when they returned for the job. On the day of the job, the guys were prompt and worked very quickly! In addition, they also called me out to confirm any decision that wasn't initially agreed upon. Overall, I thought they did a fantastic job. You wouldn't even know the two large Catalpas were ever there. I couldn't be happier with the job. read more

Barrett is great at what they do and I'd highly recommend them to anyone needing tree work. I scheduled a tree removal in December 2014, before all this crazy snow in February 2015. That didn't deter them in the least. They cut through 4 feet of snow in my yard to get to the tree and had no problem whatsoever removing it. They had a big enough crew to handle it, but didn't charge me any extra for the time and work moving the snow. Terry and the crew that came out was friendly and professional throughout. Can't recommend them highly enough. read more

The crew from Barrett just left and i'm admiring their work as I type. They trimmed two large maples for me this afternoon, clearing but the dead wood and removing low branches that were too close to our house and the neighbor's. The work was fast, they guys were friendly and they left the yard perfectly clean. Considering how many branches they had to take down, I am really impressed by the complete lack of mess. Highly recommended. read more

I received 4 quotes to get the trees in my yard trimmed. I picked Barrett because they were the most responsive, and had the best price. The team arrived at my house on time and were extremely efficient and careful. By the end of the day, the trees looked beautiful, and the yard was totally cleared of debris. Trumball was professional and very informative. I am so pleased with the outcome of the job (as well as the clean-up) that I will most certainly use them again when the trees need trimming in a few years. read more

I had called around to a few tree removal services to remove 4 large, over 50 foot trees that were between my house and my neighbors. I met with Trumbull, and what a nice guy, and provided me with a quote on the spot. Other companies took almost a week to get back to me with a quote. And for a very reasonable price, they removed all four of the trees, and trimmed up the 2 remaining as well as my neighbors (with his permission as well). The crew were all friendly, efficient and safe! Such a great experience and could not be happier. Can now see more sky, have more sunlight, and so much more space in my backyard, and the remaining trees look happy and pr.ovide adequate shade. Would definitely use again and recommend to all of my friends read more

This review is overdue, but I highly recommend Barrett Tree Service. I have a very large, acorn-producing tree in my teeny urban backyard. It was getting overgrown and branches were falling off; I had to give it a good "haircut" but I was afraid to hurt or kill it. Barrett gave me very specific input as to what they planned to do, and what I needed to do (ie have neighbors move their cars) and when. They showed up when they said they would and kept me posted leading up to the big haircut day. They handled a tricky project extremely professionally and clearly cared about the tree itself. I would recommend them to anyone who wants the job done right. read more

I couldn't ask for anything more from Trumbull and his crew! From the first meeting, Trumbull took his time in explaining my options and even fitted me in a tight schedule due to potential dangers of falling branches. His crew showed up on time, and performed the job expertly and efficiently, cleaning up before they left. I will definitely be using Barrett East the next time I need tree care. read more

Barrett Tree Service just completed the removal of our three diseased elm trees in the tight urban environment of Cambridge.  These guys were so easy to work with from beginning to end.  And like super heroes they were undaunted by nasty February weather, hanging electric wires and closely packed homes.  They protected garden plants and did a bang up job of cleaning up debris despite snow and ice.  We couldn't be happier with their work. read more

We had them come and evaluate the trees on a newly purchased property that had clearly had minimal maintenance over the last few years. They ended up recommending quite a bit of pruning and completely taking out one half-dead tree in the back. Both Keith (the guy who came for the original visit) and Trumbull (the guy who ran the team on-site for the actual work, also the company founder) were very knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. Everyone on the team was super friendly, everything went very smoothly and we were very glad we hired them! read more

We just needed a couple stumps ground down - Alden came by and had them ground down just a few days after his site visit! The price was reasonable and customer service was excellent. Can't say enough about them. They check all the boxes. Great work, price and crew. Removed on tree, trimmed a huge pin oak and other tree, some that were in ridiculously difficult areas. Price was shockingly low. read more

You can't get better service than what Trumbell provides.I have used him several times, and have recommended him to a bunch of people. Even my day care provider had glowing results. The first time I used him I had moved into a house where the previous owner had not been able to maintain the yard for several years. Trumbell went around the yard and told me where trees could be saved and where they needed to come out. He would up creating a space in my yard that I did not know I have, and the house is warmer with the sun now. Great guys, and they do a fantastic job. I even bought the whole crew pizza and made coffee because they were working so hard! read more

Trumbull is exactly what we hoped for in a Arborist. in about 5 minutes he identified all of our trees (we had them all wrong!) then carefully explained what needed to be done, how he was going to do it and what we could expect from his service. He left us with a quote that he stuck to all the way through (!). He and his crew showed up when he said they would, walked around to reconfirm everything, and then got to work. A few hours later, poof, well structured trees, lots of good "center leaders" and hardly a leaf left behind. All in all a great experience, highly recommended. read more
