I'm fairly local to the area and have come here pretty often over the years. My husband and I really appreciate the variety of vegan options, and the food staff has always been lovely. Unfortunately, we've nearly stopped coming altogether because of how consistently rude the barista staff has been. We've visited this location around 20 times, mostly for the food, and I genuinely can't recall having a positive experience with the staff behind the coffee counter. Today was a reminder of why we stopped coming in. I ordered a latte, and when I walked up to the counter, there was no greeting or even a basic "How can I help you?" Instead, I was met with, "What do you want?" There was no one ahead of me, and after I waited nearby for my drink, the person making it yelled "HERE YOU GO!" right near us in a sarcastic, snide tone. It's disappointing because there are things we really do like about this place, but the experience at the counter has made it hard to justify coming back -- especially when the coffee itself isn't good enough to make up for being treated rudely. At this point, we'll likely stick with Epoch down the street and head to Bistro Vonish when we want our vegan fix. read more

Went here on a Saturday morning and it took 35 mins for my food to come out, even though there were only a few people inside. Apparently a big online order had come in, which they were prioritizing over customers there in person. So that wasn't great. However, once I got my tacos ALL was forgiven. These are by far the best vegan breakfast tacos I've ever had! The vegan chorizo, potato, and cheese was so insanely good. I am going to be coming back here just for that! I have been to Double Trouble multiple times, and I don't know how I keep forgetting to write a review. It's lovely! The drinks are good, the food is good, the vibes are great, and every cashier/bartender/barista I've had has been fast and kind. They have indoor and outdoor seating and it's all well kept. There is sometimes trivia or drag queen night going on outside, something to keep in mind. There are also a few spots in the front of the building you can sit at, but that area tends to fill up with smokers so be aware. There are vegan options which are great. The margaritas are good and the last time I got a Michelada I was given four olives and that made it extra delicious for me. The coffee drinks are solid too. I have yet to have a bad time here. A great spot for last minute meet ups or other casual get togethers. I have a few friends that love this place so I'll be sure to come back. read more

me and my friend came here to study, because i saw online it was a coffee shop/vegan restaurant! i thought this was perfect since i am a vegan. the vibes here were amazing and very austin. plenty of cozy outdoor seating options, (not as many inside seating options tho, so if you come when its busy be prepared to sit outside) the weather was quite nice so we sat outside. i ordered the vegan flautas, a potato and tofu scramble taco, and a dirty chai. i also later had the prickly pear margarita. all of my food was delicious and my friend enjoyed all of her food too. the service was very quick and friendly. the vegan menu is also quite extensive and there are lots of options!!! i would absolutely come back to double trouble read more

Was out for a walk from my AirBnB and stumbled across this coffee shop at sunset. What a pleasant surprise. Double Trouble is a moody coffee shop with a restaurant and "study hall" out back, where a rousing game of trivia was underway when I was there. In the coffee shop proper, Smashing Pumpkins was playing and black, gothic candles set the stage. But, you ask, how was the coffee? This is a coffee shop, after all. Solid, I tell you. Both the decaf cortado and decaf macchiato were on point, strong and stout, bitterness cut by the milk. With the coffee shop and restaurant, along with beer and cocktails offered, Triple Trouble might be a more worthy moniker. Looking forward to returning upon my next visit to Austin. read more

Service is great, location is awesome, ambience is always good. But let's talk about the food The food at this place is always hit or miss. Particularly, the portions are always WILD. It seems like sometimes it's just literally thrown together, with a literal whole can of beans in a bowl or literally three beans. This is a hidden gem! The quesadillas were so delicious and such a good portion size for only $10. I got the guac to the guac was pretty mediocre. It definitely lacked flavor. Came here on a Friday evening after work with my sister, and we had to spend quite a bit of time trying to find parking. We eventually found a spot on a residential street nearby, and we're able to eat at the restaurant outside on the patio. We both ordered the flautas (vegan) and this dish is the reason I'm giving a 5-star rating. There were four tortilla rolls each filled with potato, with ample sauce and veggies on top. It was the right size for a meal and everyone was raving about them. Someone even asked my sister if she tried them randomly when she went to go get water, haha! While I appreciated the space for outdoor seating, it was obviously very HOT which made it a bit uncomfortable to sit outside and eat. First time, here. We came in at, around, 8:30AM. We grabbed menus, on the bar, and stepped up to the register to give our order to the guy standing there. He was friendly enough. I'm vegan, and a gourmet vegan chef, so I was looking forward to some creative dishes at this place, with its vegan menu. It does have non-vegan menu items, as well. The two types of offerings are on separate pages. Cool. I got their Tofu Migas, with pico and red sauce on the side, in little sample containers. My gf got the Tokyo Breakfast. The seating we chose was hard, wooden booths. Meh. A guy brought our food, by locating the number stand on our table. From there, a decided step, or two, downward. What was on my migas? It looked like mustard toothpaste, but tasted like salt paste with a bit of garlic powder, but mostly SALT. The tofu was equal to about two tablespoons. Unbelievably, the migas part of this dish was a tortilla chip that looked like it was simply crushed in someone's hand and sprinkled over the tofu. When I make migas, I soak the chips in water, for a bit, and then saute them with the tofu and spices. That makes for a far better dish. Their dish was a failure. Over-salted, hard chip bits, not much tofu, and an OK, but small, flour tortilla. My gf's omelet was OK, a 3/5, as she told me. I tasted the rice in it, and it was terrible, for me. Very salty soy sauce, and way too much of it. Our bill was $20, including one large iced tea. We probably won't be back. read more

It was 8 am and they made me a fresh piping hot cheese burger and my favorite crinkle fries to die for. In a day and age of self serve or NO service at all the cashier was both friendly and helpful to me to place my order. The coffee was awesome, duh a coffee shop but this experience has already made my day. What, a free refill, is this really possible? The breakfast tacos must be good everyone coming in is ordering them, but my hamburger was like your momma made it, on a toasted bun and it snapped when you bit into it because of their deli pickles. Went here recently for a quick bite when everything else was closed on Monday and oh my goodness! First off, the food was AMAZING! I got a steak taco as well as a shredded pork taco and the flavors were on point! Some of the most flavorful and juicy tacos I have had in a long time! They have some inside seating but the most spits can be found in their back patio area which was HUGE! They also have a little kids section back there which was perfect for our toddler. It's a bit tucked away do we didn't realize it was there at first but if you peek around the corner you'll find it! Service was pretty quick, you order at bar and then they bring food out to you but make sure you wait for your drink since that comes out at the bar and is not brought to the table. They have a couple parking spaces out front and plenty of street parking in the surrounding area. They were out of a bunch of syrups when I went so want to come back when they are restocked! Double Trouble is the newest restaurant in the North Loop area. While there aren't a lot, the older ones in the area are kinda expensive and can be pretentious. Double Trouble is none of that. The food is inexpensive, the coffee really good, and the beer and cocktails are reasonably priced. AND it's open at 7am and closes around midnight! I've be dying for a good place to grab an early breakfast. Too many places in Austin don't open until 8 or 9. Way too late! The Food: There's vegan and omnivore options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast you have simple tacos like bacon, egg and cheese, or more complicated ones like the Tokyo Breakfast. I am obsessed with the Vegan Chilaquiles Mexicana. Holy crap this is amazing... you totally will not miss having eggs! I am pescatarian, so I am making my way around the mostly vegan part of the menu. Besides the Chilaquiles, so far I really like Mi Ranchito and Vegan Migas. My gf likes the Tokyo Breakfast the best. My fave simple taco is potato, egg and cheese. The potatoes here are my least favorite. The potatoes are diced, which I like, but lot of the times the potatoes are undercooked. Not a dealbreaker... For people on the go, they recently added grab-n-go tacos. From the lunch/dinner menu I really like the BBQ Short Rib Taco and Fried Avocado Diablo Taco. The Coffee: These guys are the people behind Barrett's Coffee Roasters. If you love their coffee, you'll love the coffee here. The beans are roasted at the St. John's location and brewed here. I typically go for the house drip coffee which is excellent. My gf gets the decaf almond milk latte which she really likes. You can also get bags of Barrett's coffee beans to brew at home. The Alcohol: The beer menu features all local beers. The beer menu changes constantly, so you might not find the same thing each visit. I still have to try the coffee cocktails. I have friends that love them! Seating: There's a really big backyard with plenty of picnic table seating. Inside, the bar and window counter seating is great. The table seating is kinda weird and uncomfortable. TLDR: This is a great local place with a friendly staff, great food and coffee, good beers and cool music. read more

I was hoping for the Korean bbq taco but they didn't have it here, so I ended up getting another taco) There is some seating inside, but not a ton and it's a bit tight. Truly love this place. The food is SO GOOD, and they have great beer and coffee prices. We frequently work from the shaded patio out back. My one old-guy complaint is regarding the sheer number of smokers that seemingly frequent this place. Literally can't get away from the smoke outside some days.
