From my point of view, 3 stars is generous. I love BBQ and was hoping to have found another favorite spot. I got the pork ribs and sliced brisket. Both were tender. However, both were tasteless. So tasteless, I went back to the website to see if I mistakenly thought it was a bbq spot but maybe it's a restaurant that offers options such as bbq like some sports bars. Nope, it's a smokehouse. I've returned to Barrel and Bones several times, and my review needs an update. I came here to watch Game 5 of the NBA Finals. B&B posted on IG all meals are comped if the Mavs win. They lost, but my overall experience was outstanding. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Nothing compares to the atmosphere when a bar has all TVs with game on, high stakes, tons of hyped fans, and good food and drink. It was a great time and Barrel and Bones did a great job packing the place. It's a fun atmosphere with a big bar and the only thing that was bad was the Mavs lost. 1 Star. Service - I sat at the bar, and the bartender, Damien, remembered me from a previous visit. I was really impressed by his memory, but more impressed by how well he managed the bar. He was swift, accurate, friendly, and even made another drink for a patron whose drink was mistakenly taken away. 1 Star. Food - If you follow Barrel & Bones on social media, you'll see their specials. On Monday the appetizers and brisket burger are half price. I started with the Queso Blanco, which was served with warm tortilla chips. The queso was nice and creamy and the middle had chunks of flavorful, smoky brisket. The brisket burger was a very nice surprise. First, this thing is huge. Super juicy and on half price Mondays, it's also a great value. The patty was a little bland, but that was okay because had a tangy spread that added flavor. As a bonus, the fries were excellent. They were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and do good I ate every single one. Because I was saving money, I ordered the bread pudding for dessert. It was just 'meh'. But the rest of my meal was great and a nice value. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. Now that I know they have daily specials, Barrel & Bones will make it into my monthly rotation. My wife and I have stopped by for dinner but have only actually eaten there once: its opening weekend. That night the music was way too loud and the food was mid. We have stopped by since to give it another try and there was no staff out front to greet or seat us so we left. Oh well. HOT TIP -If you look at the "to go" menus in front of the hostess station, there is a stack of to-go menus that included a black $5 off coupon of purchases for $20 or more, so help yourself and get some money off your meal. There are 3 restaurants in this location off the highway - 3 of them are all the same owner, One Mexican, one pizza and this one (BBQ). Seems to me they are competing with themselves for customers since none of them ever seem busy, but who knows the logic of this, maybe they got a deal on the real estate?, or maybe the workers/managers work at all 3? We have been to the Mexican one (Black Agave), and today came to the BBQ one, based on the limited but rave reviews. It was a Sunday around 3pm and the place was empty. In MHO these restaurants have great potential but miss on the details. Things like: never removing the menus from our table, not advertising the specials or HH on any of their communications (not on menus, not on little table signs, not told to you by the waitstaff unless you specifically ask, not on the website, etc), food not quite hot enough...) We were here just before a Mavericks basketball game was about to begin. and all appetizers are 1/2 price during games. - good to know, glad I asked, I am dying to try the deep fried deviled eggs! They do have a few lunch specials listed on the menu, whew! Note though that the QR code on the menu for the beer specials sends your phone to a website where you have to select your location, yada yada... NOT to the beer specials. We ordered a pastrami brisket sandwich to split (upgraded to sweet potato fries) and a cup of the brisket potato chowder. Went here for a quick drink and snack so I cannot really recommend much. They do have a big wrap around bar and the location is quite quaint but spacious for big groups. The bartender at the moment was very quiet and didn't really try to answer our questions or upsell anything. We also went the last hour of service and the place was pretty empty. I got a couple of tacos and they were very "juicy" and flavorful. My husband got a stuffed avocado that was quite tasty. Will be back o tasting emote of this extensive bbq menu. read more

We came from Sacramento, CA to Dallas for the 2024 Solar Eclipse and were looking for authentic Texas Barbecue. The restaurant is a new location and the original business started off as a craft whiskey joint. The place is new, modern, casual, and clean. The server Damien was super cool and had an interesting superhero back story. The brisket queso dip was amazing and we all enjoyed our entrees. We saw this restaurant opened up not too far from where we lived and we decided to check it out. When we walked in they told us we could sit anywhere and a waiter would be right with us. Our biggest issue was that they only have ONE waiter and he chose not to tell us that happy was still going- and we didnt order anything on the happy hour menu since we thought it was over. However, he did tell the table next to us... that was disappointing. The food was surprisingly good and fresh! I got the brisket grilled cheese. I would have gotten the mac and cheese as a side but they were out (I did try it another time, not great). I got a caeser salad instead and it was pretty good! My husband got the pulled pork with beans as a side. The beans were not his favorite, but we both thought the sandwiches were great. I came back with my coworkers a week or so later for lunch and the sandwich was just as good as when we went. My one coworker did get tacos and they were incredibly greasy and made him feel a bit sick after so maybe stay away from those. The restaurant doesn't have a ton of seating, and its also connected to the Mexican restaurant in the back- I think its also owned by them. Visited here from Seattle. Had a party of 6. Placed an order for the two meat combo - with brisket and pork belly burnt ends. Hubby had ribs with a side of baked beans. I also ordered the smoked wings. Per our server the Mac n cheese is trash, he didn't recommend the pizza said it would take too long and the pulled pork Pibil. There were a few other orders of food, ribs, wings, brisket grilled cheese. For the food. The brisket was served lukewarm but had good taste. The wings were good. I liked the bbq sauce. The pork belly burnt ends was not hitting. The ribs were okay. They were smoky a little salty but they were caked with pepper. The truffle fries were good but nothing was hot and that's disappointing. The baked beans had great taste. I loved them but hubby didn't like them. Normally, I'll wait until after a 2nd or 3rd visit to give a review - especially 5 stars - but I don't have to this time. Everything was perfectly seasoned and sauced. They weren't trying to hide anything. Even the sweet tea was on point and not overly sugared to disguise other flavors. The service was excellent and we never felt forgotten or neglected. The ambiance isn't "too much" (although a few more local items might not be a bad thing). I'm looking forward to returning and taking out-of-town visitors and colleagues. For Texas barbecue it's a miss. The burnt ends were not burnt and were basically fatty ends covered in barbecue sauce. The brisket was OK but lacked flavor. With so many good Texas barbecue restaurants in the Dallas Fort Worth area. This one isn't worth the time. read more

We wandered into this new restaurant after checking out another restaurant, Bugatti's, which is yet to open. We were curious about the location. But now back to Barrel & Bones. We received a warm welcome from Luli who was eager to take us through the menu. Luli was overflowing with enthusiasm and joy to be there. Having tasted some of the best BBQ in the area, our taste buds are educated. Maybe even spoiled. We tried pork ribs, lean brisket, and a Monte Cristo brisket sandwich all of which was just okay. The biggest disappointment was that we asked for extra raspberry jam with our to-go sandwich order only to discover when we got home that there was zero jam in the bag. Instead, we found a cup of salty, dry rub seasoning, which made zero sense. Restaurant should also watch for too much fat in the sandwich and on what they call "lean brisket." On a positive note, we learned that there is an adjoining restaurant called Black Agave. Both restaurants under one roof allow you to sit in one restaurant and order from the menu of the other. Also, it's nice to enjoy drinks in one restaurant, then dinner in the other, making it a full night out. read more

Seating was finding a free table but a lot of tables were just full of dirty dishes though other tables were free - just not enough for 3 of us. The manager saw us waiting and had someone clean the table. Unfortunately person didn't clean the seats which had food still on it. Waitress was very friendly but was covering for someone who hadn't shown up and was actually also doing her shift in an attached restaurant. Think it would have been a better experience otherwise. As a first time customer here, I was looking forward to trying out a bbq restaurant 10 mins from my home but unfortunately pretty upset with with my first experience. Online this location showed open hours until 10pm at the time I placed my order for a a Bix Big Tex that was confirmed online with an estimated order ready time at 9:15pm pickup time. Upon arrival at 9:15pm I walked up to a locked door and I knocked on the door for a few minutes until an employee walked to the door. He proceeded to tell me that his kitchen closed at 8:30pm but I explained to him that my order pick up was confirmed for 9:15pm. He seemed to be surprised and asked to see my order and then he said I can complete the order but came back 15 minutes later with a bag and told me to "come back Friday and I'll take care of you". Ideally if he was closing he should have just refunded me on the spot and I would have understood, however, when I made it home I was shocked and disappointed to open the carryout box inside the bag that had a plain cold potato with a side of sour cream, chives, and 2 slices of cold brisket and a few pieces of sausage, and garlic sauce without the other toppings promised in the menu description bbq sauce, bacon, onion rings etc. Worst of all there weren't even napkins or utensils in the bag...and I also notice that the door dash order record also shows up as a late pickup at 10:27pm even though I came considerably earlier at 9:15pm which was before the online restaurant closing time of 10pm. The result for me was time and money wasted along with a dissatisfactory experience. I demand a full refund for a poor customer experience. Also highly recommend that restaurants update their restaurant hours on google along with all their delivery platforms to ensure no customer has to experience this unacceptable meal. read more

Have never been to any of their other locations so it was my first time trying this place out.. it's seriously so so good. The Texas Twinkie was my favorite thing I ate, it's a jalapeño generously stuffed with cheese filling & wrapped with sweet bacon..not super spicy but has a slight kick to it! The brisket queso is also really yummy it has big pieces of brisket with corn & tomatoes that stayed hot in the mini cast iron. I highly recommend those appetizers. For the entree we got the 2 meat plate. We chose the brisket & they let you pick if you want it lean, moist or chopped..we chose moist & it was so perfect not too fatty at all! Along with the jalapeño cheddar sausage and both meats were so flavorful even without sauce. Mac & cheese was pretty standard..can't complain it was simple & that's fine. The potato salad is not your traditional mayo based & served cold, it's more like a cut up baked potato just like the name states. It was still so delicious but just a heads up bc they usually serve the traditional kind at bbq places. For dessert we ended up ordering off Black Agave's menu..I think both restaurants are connected or share a kitchen? We tried the cinco leches cake which was not good at all... it was dry & had a weird after taste..definitely skip! Our server was attentive & also all the staff were friendly. We like to get out and eat n have drinks but that Carrollton location just wasn't cutting it. Fast forward to June 24, 2024.. the FB location is just what we were looking for! Inside was nice, cozy. Bartender Jess was awesome; she had a great personable attitude, recommended drinks, food, just all around great bartender. We will for sure be back C'mon peeps in the area, go check them out. First time coming over here now that it is open, it was quiet, but the service was fantastic! Rachel our server was super nice, informative, and we enjoyed how personable she was with all the customers. Definitely a place I can see us being regulars and building community. They have a bar space, some tables and a community high top table, and several TV screens playing different football games. They also have a pool table that we want to try out next time. We ordered the Brisket Grilled Cheese and the Pit Master sandwiches and they were both delicious! Wanted to try other things but are saving that for next time. The fries were crispy on the outside with an airy texture on the inside, and if you like ranch instead of ketchup they have it! So good! Went there for lunch after driving by many times. Very nice decor. We ordered the lunch special which includes a choice of meat and a side. We waited 40 minutes. We asked for it be packed so that we could back to the office . They failed to pack one of the side items. The brisket was barely edible . The waitress said there was only one person in the kitchen. Let me start by saying that my friend and I are both West, Tn natives and were excited to try some Texas bbq. This place was nice and our server Tyler was fantastic. Here's what we got: the wings (very smoky and tender, could use some salt in the rub but getting bbq sauce will make up for that), quesabirria tacos were okay (didn't have much flavor, cheese, onions or cilantro) we added pickled onions from the bbq plate and it changed the game, brisket and ribs were tasty (ribs needed a little salt in the rub), twice baked potato salad isn't really potato salad because it's warm (still tasty tho) and the baked beans ( 0/10, tasted like canned chili, had cheese and cilantro in them and that was diabolical behavior lol). Worst first visit ever! We watched the story on Channel 11 with Doug Dunbar and Karen Borta,, and this seemed like a good new BBQ restaurant to try. So, we went the next day, Saturday, for dinner, to the location in Farmers Branch off LBJ Freeway, and what a mistake that was. We walked in, and what a strange set up for a restaurant. Only a few tables (maybe 6 or 8) in a seating area, a HUGE bar, and an area with a pool table or two, and a few tables around it. Then, a large very long table, with walls at each end, very strange, and I'm not sure who would sit there unless you had a large party of about 30 or more to fill the table. And, a large number of beautiful TVs everywhere, with the sound turned up so high that hearing loss would be a certainty. When the waiter sautered over, we could not hear him. We assumed he came to get our drink order, so we placed it and asked him to please have the volume turned down. There were only about 4 other people in the restaurant at the time (about 6 PM on a Saturday night, Texas-OU weekend). We think he said he would adjust the volume. When he brought the drinks, we again asked to have the volume turned down. He said he would check with the manager. After another 5-10 minutes, and him not returning and the volume remaining at an unsafe level, we decided that this restaurant was not interested in listening to customers, and not interested in our business, so we decided to leave. I went to the bar to pay for our drinks, asked again about the volume, and he said the manager said the volume would not change, but, of course, did not come over to tell us. Again, worst experience of customer service I have seen in a very long time. I think that you can find plenty of other restaurants with good food who care about customer satisfaction than to try this one. read more
