100 stars!! I love this restaurant. I especially love the taco special on Mondays after 2pm. I recently held my daughter's 1st communion reception here. The service was amazing! Our server was Ramiro and he did an excellent job. He was very attentive and kept up with all our requests. I would also like to especially thank Rose, who I believe is the owner. She was so nice, welcoming, and a true professional in the restaurant business. She made sure everything went smoothly for our reception. Everything went exactly how it was supposed to go, from the menu to the table cloths to a request for a cake table and gift table, everything was in place just like I expected. I ordered 4 tacos (2 beef and 2 chicken) for myself and a beef enchilada for my father for lunch today. I placed my order over the phone for pick up and hung up the phone without getting a price for my food (expecting my bill to be around 20-25 dollars MAX). To my surprise, upon picking up my food, the host told me the bill was $36 for my order. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. For the price of $4.50 per taco, I was expecting something like a gourmet taco at the least. It was the complete opposite. The chicken was lukewarm and mushy and the beef was flavorless. On top of that, the tacos were one of the smallest tacos i have ever seen. A friend told us about the $1.00 Taco Mondays, and being a little low on cash right now, decided to finally try this place out.. The huge parking lot was full and we had to park on the street, but the wait was 10 minutes max., a lot shorter than I thought it'd be. Tiny waiting area, but we were lucky to grab a couple of seats. Chips and salsa was good and fresh. For the tacos, you can either get ground beef or chicken. I got one of each and a side of rice and beans. The tacos were pretty good size and tasty. The rice was good and fluffy, and the beans were ok, needed a little something though. I might be back on the cheap taco night, don't know about the rest of the week though.. The owner lady is a sweetheart. She is very helpful and approachable. I love her people skills. I enjoy the food and especially their chips and guacamole. Oh and their horchata is bomb!!! I will fully admit I can be a hard person to go out with at times. I am picky and moody and sometimes I will let it be known that while I am compromising, I really just want my way. That said, when my poor carb loving boyfriend asked his carbophobic and thus Mexican food fearing girlfriend if we could go to Barragan's, I bit my tongue and went along for the ride. Cuz I love him. And since he's the one plying me with fatty food, he is now required to still love me should I now discover I can no longer fit into my clothes. The food was good and the selection a little more varied and original than an El Torito or Acapulco, but in the end it pretty much tasted like any of those places with a slightly bigger menu so I can't really give bonus points, can I? I had the shrimp fajitas, which was a massive meal when you factor in the rice and beans that filled an entire plate but which were not good enough to tempt me away from the healthier plate on the table. It's basically a place to eat a meal that will keep you full all night, provide reliable flavors, and be a local family friendly please-all. Guaranteed this place has been there for over a Hundred years. I was driving by and decided I should give it a shot because well, I have never been inside. What if I'm missing something great? What if the nexus of the universe has been here all along and i've just passed it by time and time again? Inside felt pretty romantic. I instantly had a crush on myself when I stepped in there. It wasn't romantic like oh wow I hope I can get myself to go home with me tonight and I hope this isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg... no, it was different. I got chips and guac... and the Guac was good. I got the Burrito Grande with chicken, and it was a football stadium jumbo-tron of Mexican food goodness. I feel quite Herculean going into pretty much any meal... however, I felt David lost this bout with Goliath. (David is my friend in this story, also a reflection of myself and the Biblical figure. When I lived in Echo Park- I never missed a Taco Monday. When I went back to visit in September, I was so sad to find that location no longer exists : ( The potato tacos are TO DIE FOR. But sadly, they don't serve them at this location. I was told they do at the one in Glendale, however. I'd say the chicken tacos are second best and beef would be my third choice- but they are all GREAT. The people were always sweet. One time I was making SUCH a mess of myself over the mild salsa (it's more like a marinara sauce than anything, which I loved) and one of the waiters noticed my mess when he walked by. I used to work in Burbank for many years so I heard about Barragan's Mexican Restaurant. Today we were in the area running an errand so we decided to give a try. Every good Mexican Restaurant has to have a yummy good salsa. Well this place fails short big time in this department. It was a watered down tomato mess broth with green onions. I was like WTH?!! I really tried to overlook this but still if the salsa & chips, the first item that represents the food is a bust it is so hard to move past it. We decided to order and share the shrimp fajitas, it came with a choice of soup (the waiter said the soup of the day was Lentil ok.... it is a Mexican Restaurant WTF?!) and it came with rice & refried beans. It was 'eh and def not great and the shrimp had some bits of crunch to it as if the shells were still a part of the meal. Ugh! Don't ask about the decor and ambiance of this place......the place looked dingy and old in which the carpets looked filthy. Our waiter was mediocre at best. Who asks if I am done with the chips when taking away all the finished items that were kindly gathered for him to take?? Of course I was done with that and thanks for asking or did you think I was being a hungry pig? Learn some etiquette and appreciate the plates, chips, awful salsa, empty beers were piled together in a neat place to the side meaning....for you to take. I was at barragans restaurant in Burbank ca.Sunday morning, I asked for a side if sour cream to go with my beef fajitas omelet. The waiter brought the omelet and tortillas, buy never brought the side of sour cream that I had ordered. And no one ever showed up or went by,so I could tell them about the missing sour cream. This shows a lack of concern of the staff that are employed at Barragans. You know that in the restaurant business you can get by on so so food,but you won't Survive in this business on poor customer service. It will be a long time before I go back to this restaurant and then will only be to check if their service has improved. Dissatisfied. read more

Barragan's is a great place to get a big Mexican meal for a fair price. My favorite dish here is the chicken fajita tostada! It's a traditional flat corn tostada covered in a pile of refried beans, lettuce, fresh salsa, sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheese, and deliciously marinated chunks of chicken. They also have a decent ceviche and albondegas soup. I've had many of their dishes and I have enjoyed them all - with the exception of the queso fundido apetizer... it's a bowl full of greasy cheese and heartburn nightmares. This place can get packed for lunch, so I recommend you get there before noon, better yet, 11:30am. Also, the staff and owners are top notch. read more

Loved the service but the lobster enchiladas weren't that great. It tasted like imitation lobster, but the rice, beans and salsa was great! Other had thE chicken burrito and they loved it. Came here with the family. Party of 10. Seating was quick but we did arrive here late. About an hour before closing on a weekday. Once seated, our waiter was attentive and friendly. Food I must say was pricey and taste okay. Nothing outstanding considering the price. Portions are big though which perhaps can justify the price. Taste though, they can add a little more flavor to it. I had the shrimp taco for about $7 bucks. I expected a little more flavor but it was filling. I must say though, I had a bite of my daughters cheeseburger and fries and they were yummy! Parking was not a problem. There is ample parking. After coming to this place literally hundreds of times, I have decided not to come back. We were served our soups with dirty spoons. At first, we didn't say anything because it was easily fixed. Wow maybe I have been lucky eating at Barragan's over 45 years because I've never had a bad meal or service. Grew up in Echo Park where the original stood for many years and been eating at the Burbank location since it opened. My Son and now gran kids love it here. We have had a few celebrations over the years and never been disappointed. Great mix of Mexican dishes with some not usually found at the other Mexican restaurants in town. After attending a wedding and a birthday celebration in their beautiful patio which were great I decided to host one this last Saturday for 63 of my Salsa students. The event was flawless! Rose Barragan set everything up for us and could not have been more accommodating. Ramiro was in charge of the night with Hugo assisting him. The food and drinks were perfect as was the night! Definitely will be hosting more events here as well as continuing to dine here regularly. A shout out to our regular servers, Carlos, Frankie and Freddy! See you soon!! read more

We really love Barragans. It is easily our favorite mexican family restaurant in the North LA area. Awesome menudo, breakfast, combo plates, tamales. We have virtually no complaints. Really the only complaint I have is the navy bean soup. Barragans is the only mexican restaurant I know that doesn't offer albondigas as a "soup or salad" option with a meal. Navy bean? At a mexican restaurant? When you already offer albondigas as a bowl? Sigh. Ok, I digress. Service is (typically) great. Only one noteworthy bad experience, but the food made up for it. Oh, and they serve breakfast all day. Barragan's is a throwback to the old school Mexican cantinas that used to line the boulevards of the Valley when I was growing up. This restaurant was highly recommended by my neighbor, so I decided to go on Monday August 17th. It took forever to get my food but I found out that they were understaffed. The food was good. But one thing that turned me off from this place, was how the manager deals with her employees. I asked a waiter to get me the manager and it turned out that the manager (carmen) was the one that I wanted to complain about. I saw this lady yell at another co worker (I guess she made a mistake, who knows) in front of everyone. First of all as a customer I should not be exposed to this drama. As a manager she should have pulled that young lady to the side and (I think her name was Gaby, not sure) talked to her privately. Not humiliating this poor girl in front of everyone. I tried getting a hold of the owner Armando, but I could never get him. So here I am doing this review on Yelp. Need to train the manager to be more Professional.
