    Stuffed mushrooms

Sorry Steve Carell, I tried Barone's because you recommended their pizza. You were sort of right about the pizza. It was good but not great. We got the pepperoni with mushroom on half. I'd give it an 8/10. Sadly everything else fell flat. Barone's Italian Salad was bland. The famous stuffed mushrooms were also pretty average. The meatball sub was basically two meatballs on a half a sub. Again average and bland. Service was pretty good and if you like nostalgic Italian style ambiance this place looks cool. We decided if we come back we will probably just get the pizza. $132 for two plus $8 for parking.

We only eat here because my friend's family always ate here. Do a pick up order - just get a bunch of pizzas and salads. That is the best way to enjoy the nostalgia and the food. The corner pieces are my favorite - thin crust. Pretty good. On the other hand, I actually was at the restaurant, and the other food is disappointing. (Why is the artichoke appetizer made in chicken stock??) I'm sad I didn't get a personal pizza for lunch. I guess they don't really cook at lunch time. The kitchen looked quiet and empty. Maybe they just reheat. The eggplant sandwich was gluey and tasteless. The pasta on the side was definitely not fresh. Good News: I was with my aunts (in their 80s). They had an easy time parking at 11:30am and getting in and out of the lobby and dining room - even with a walker. However, I'm not sure if the bathroom doors and stalls are wide enough for someone using a walker.

Came here the other day and had a delicious Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and Pepperoni Pizza. Garlic Bread and Sourdough Bread was delicious. Great customer service from the staff. The server was awesome. They have big booths and a nice bar you can sit at. Coke fountain drinks. This place has been around since 1945. Parking can be kind of tight during busy hours. Nice spot to grab a bit if you are in the Valley Glen area or Van Nuys or North Hollywood. I definitely recommend.

Almost impossible to find crumbled sausage in LA

Came in on a Friday afternoon, wasn't busy. Pro tip, get the meats on top of the cheese. I like my pepperoni a little toasted. The small is enough for me for 2 meals. Had a great conversation with Paul the bartender. Great visit all around.

After watching a matinee feature of Nosferatu at Regal North Hollywood Theater, my relatives suggested having Italian-American pizza and beer for lunch. We eagerly agreed and knew he meant we were going to nearby Barone's Pizzeria on Oxnard Street, where we've eaten several times since the late 2000s. Upon arrival, we scored an open parking stall near the entrance of the pizzeria/restaurant. From the building's Swiss Chalet-like exterior, you'd not expect to find Italian-American cuisine here. The interior gives off a retro 1940s vibe. Upon closer exploration, our cheery male server explained that the building used to be the former Old Heidelberg Restaurant and Matterhorn Chef (Swiss) restaurant. Also, he said that a scene from the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High was filmed in their main dining room. Another fun fact we learned about Barone's Pizzeria is that they were the first restaurant in Los Angeles and Southern California to sell pizza. While scanning the menus, we each ordered 12 oz of Peroni ($7 ea) beer, which we knew was served from draught/draft taps. Our server immediately poured our beer at the bar and returned to order our food. Since the pizzas are made to order, we chose a plate of golden-fried and lightly battered calamari rings and legs (calamari fritti) to quell our growling stomachs. We ordered Barone's famous thin-crust rectangular House Combination ($28.99), which includes pepperoni, sausage, and green peppers, but we requested additional sausage and pepperoni. The medium size is 9" x 12", and we wolfed it down while drinking our beers to wash it down. We enjoyed our lunch at Barone's. Their Sicilian and Neapolitan-style rectangular pizza was the perfect foil to our post-horror/romance movie day. Kudos to our lone server, who managed to maintain his composure and humor while serving the dining room.

I've been coming to Barone's for decades. It's old school, unique and delicious. It had been a while since we visited since we'd moved out of the San Fernando Valley a few years back, but nothing can prevent Sunday night from being pizza night, and we thought we'd venture back into the old stomping grounds and see if it's what we remembered. It was! We love the old-school Valley/Italian restaurant vibe. One might expect a place like this to feel run down with the decor and old-style booths and tables, but it was as if the place had just opened. Everything was "shiny" and comfortable. The place was also packed on a Sunday. (At least in the dining room they had open. We ordered a medium pie with garlic, onions and tomatoes (extra crispy), and an individual pineapple pizza. (Pineapple pizza naysayers need not apply.) We love the square pies with crispy edges...sort of Sicilian and slightly Detroit style, but really unique, crispy and delicious. It tasted just like the first time I'd had it decades earlier. The house salad we had with it was enough for 3 of us, with a generous amount of non-lettuce items to keep it interesting. Service was friendly and fast. Prices are reasonable. I hope Barone's goes on forever.

Did they change the pepperoni? Last I was there they were thin they used to be the good thicker cupped pepperoni

Yes, we noticed the same besides many other changes like the salad dressing, the delicious sourdough artisan bread, even the butter. Everything has changed, including the delicious cheese they used to put on their pizzas.

    Is there an AARP discount?

As far as I know they do not.

    Is there a full bar?

    Yes

    Do you DELIVER?

    No delivery

    Do you offer delivery?

    No delivery

Do they still have the spumoni ice cream pie? It's not in the new menu.

No the company that supplied the spumoni pie discontinued it.

    What crust thickness is best?

    Thin

Is the pizza crust keto friendly?

    No, of course not.

Any vegan friendly items on the menu?

Greetings I do not have their menu as best as I remember they do have meatless items. I do know that offer meatless lasagna. I guess it is how strict of a vegan you are. Hope this helps.

Did Barone's get new ownership? Or did they change their pizza? I remember it being more garlicky....

Not new ownership, but the cooks seem to have changed. The food is not as good as it once was! The owners no longer seem to care.

So when they opened a location in Sherman Oaks, it honestly meant a lot to me and my family. It brings back a strong sense of nostalgia every time. The food quality has never disappointed. Even when they change up the menu, it still delivers--and sometimes they'll even make items from the old menu depending on the kitchen, which I appreciate. If you're going with a group, I highly recommend the Sticks and Dips as an appetizer. I also love their mozzarella sticks. I've personally only ordered their deep dish pizzas so far, and they've been consistently great. I'd love to try their chicken sandwiches at some point, but the deep dish alone keeps me coming back. The service has always been warm and welcoming. The staff is friendly, and when the owner is around, he even comes by to check on you personally, which says a lot. It was honestly really upsetting to hear they were recently robbed--you've got to be a real jerk to go after a local business like this.

With so many playoff games happening, the place was buzzing with people eating, drinking, and watching sports on the multiple TVs lining the walls. The bar was empty, so we decided to sit there, and the bartender quickly tended to our bar needs: Diet Pepsi for my wife, Peroni in an iced-cold glass for me. My wife ordered the Italian Beef Sandwich, adding melted mozzarella. The sandwich came out looking great, with a side of very crispy, very tasty fries. But alas, the beef was intensely salty. I've eaten this sandwich several times, and I've never had the meat be this over-the-top salty. She had to send it back, then replaced it with the Hand-Rolled Mozzarella Sticks. These crispy, house-made sticks were terrific: crispy & crunchy on the outside, melty and tasty inside. The marinara on the side was also top-notch; chunky and herbaceous. For myself, I switched things up and ordered the Italian Hero. Sliced meats on a crispy roll with veggies, mayo, red vinegar and spicy giardinara. This was a great sandwich, with meats, cheese and veggies all fresh and flavorful, the bread pleasingly crunchy. My only complaint is that the presentation was a bit of a mess, making the sandwich a bit unnecessarily difficult to manage. There are many places around town that serve sandwiches much larger in a much neater, more easily-handled manner, so it would be great if the folks here gave things a little more attention. In the end, it was a good, casual, weeknight dinner out, and we'll definitely be back; I just wish they'd be a little more detailed.
